You may be attracted to the price of Apex's DRX 9200, but you should pass it up. I bought one of these a couple months ago, because of the price. When I opened the box to hook it up, I found at the DRX 9200 does not have a turner, so I had to spend another twenty or so dollars to purchase an RF connector. What a rip! The picture quality is not that great. The sound quality is extremely weak, and the thing pooped out on after about two months of use. The sound and picture quality of my vcr is much better than is. For now I'm just gonna stick with the vcr for recording from television, by ditching your vcr for a DRX 9200 you would be downgrading quality wise. Also, I experienced the same problem with the clock as many other people have, were it gains time.

I bought a similar "value" Apex DVD players from Amazon a while back. The thing had an annoying hum at times, but worked... at first. After two months it wouldn't play DVDs longer than maybe 90 minutes. I tried calling their service line - no one answered the phone. I went to their Website and wrote to their service e-mail address - I received no response, ever.

My guess is they figure (rightly) that no one is going to go to a lot of legal trouble over a device that costs less than $100. There are other companies that make low-end DVD players and other equipment - patronize one of them instead of Apex.

Less hassle just throwing your money away...........2007-01-19

This is a another in a saga of fried power supply stories that pervade these reviews. I can't believe that a product like this could be put on the market. I have to go back and check if the unit itself got a UL sticker. If it did, I can't see how that happened. Luckily, I believe, nothing flammable was near the unit when it died, and I was in the room to smell the problem. Even before this, the thing would periodically lose its mind need a power-on reset (pull the plug), and as mentioned in other reviews the clock couldn't keep accurate time (gain 4-6 minutes a week). I didn't know 555's were that high tech.

Buyer Beware.......2007-01-13

The product did not work when I tried to use it. Beware of their return policy, unlike Amazon YOU pay for the return shipping, YOU pay a res-stocking fee - even if the product doesn't work. This vendor was also slow in answering emails when I wanted a refund. I learned my lesson - buy from Amazon directly, not from places like this.

Lots of problems... AND A FIRE HAZARD........2006-12-21

Trust me, you're better off just saving an extra $40 to buy the next one up. It's no surprise this player's been marked down to the price it's at. It's temperamental, doesn't do what it's told, and it has pretty much no editing features. Did I mention that it can't be tuned into channels 3 and 4 for an exclusively coaxial tv? As if that wasn't the worse thing...

The night before I returned it, I was about to unplug it from my entertainment center armoire in my bedroom after the doors had been closed for about 5 hours with the power off to the player. I opened the doors, and the player had heated the compartment up like an oven!! I could barely touch THE SIDES of the player, and when I lifted it off, it'd left a melt mark on my tv. Thank god I returned it before something worse happened.

I'm someone who has a lot of patience for sub-par technology because I can still make it do stuff most often. But please, for the sake of your home and your family, I would advise you NOT to buy this product. I'm thinking about calling somebody at APEX, but with the bad reviews customer service's gotten here, I think it would be more effective to tell you, the consumers, so that you're informed before you decide to buy a DVD recorder.

We 'bought in' to this sytem about 4 years ago and i've never been so thrilled with a set of phones. I've never had a problem of any kind. They are clear and never interferred with any of the 3-4 baby monitors we've owned over the years. They have an amazing range and super battery life.
In the last few years we've added a few new handsets for convenience.
The other thing to note is that my 6,5,3 and 1 year old have not been as kind as they could be with the phones. These things have been thrown, dropped, pushed off counters, antennas chewed off, submerged in water, etc. Frequently, they hit the tile floor and the battery cover shoots one way and the battery shoots the other way. Someone goes to time-out and i pop the battery back in and we're good to go until that gets repeated the next day. One hundred times i've expected to put that battery back in and not see the screen light up, but alas, nothing seems to be able to phase it.They've held up through thick and thin. Only recently are we having to replace two handsets of 5 we've owned for 3-4 years.

I will be one sad mom when I'm not able to replace the handsets any longer and they are unavailable. Knowing how these things hold-up though, they should survive all 4 kids growing up and moving out and then I won't have to worry about replacement concerns any longer :)

Great for the money.......2006-04-20

We have had our 5800 series phones (base station/answering machine plus 3 additional phones) for about a year and half now and have no problems. The reception is good (you can walk all the way down the block with them) and there is never any fuzz or tin sound when talking. I especially like the volume control on each phone, the individual ring tones (this is especially handy when using the page/intercom feature) and the hands-free options. The base station is easy to use and the phone expansion couldn't be easier. Just plug it in and enter a code to "marry" it to your base station. I would definitely recommend this phone to others.

Decent phone for the price...some flaws........2005-04-03

I was so excited when I purchased this phone. We had 2 Panasonic 900MHz cordless phones. We LOVED these, but we decided that it was time for an upgrade. For the price, you get 3 phones that have good reception and AT&T quality as far as durability is concerned. They are attractive and a decent buy overall. My main problem is that the base does not allow transfer of info to the other handsets (ie phone books), you have to manually put numbers in each one of the handsets. There is no message waiting indicator light if you subscribe to the phone company's voicemail. The indicator is for the answering machine connected to the phone (which I don't use). If you choose to take the clock display off, the phone shows the handset number(which for some reason is annoying to me!).Also,the time doesn't automatically set. You have to set the time on each phone seperately. Again,the At&t phones look nice and have some good features, but the problems are what have made me give this a not so perfect review.
