The ClipFone 8300 900 MHz cordless telephone system has many useful features for your home, including dual handsets with sleek, modern styling. Lightweight and packed with all the extras, the ClipFone can be connected in seconds, and you can dial using either handset or the base speakerphone.

Before you can begin using the handheld devices, you must charge both of the included handsets. Once your ClipFone is fully charged you can begin using its many convenient functions. With an intercom between handsets, communicating within your home is easy--call your daughter to dinner when she's out by the pool, or check to make sure your son is doing his homework downstairs. The ClipFone also lets you transfer calls between handsets or back to the base.

A handy flash feature opens a new line when you're finished with a call--press the phone button on either handset, or on the base if you are using the speakerphone. There are four available ringer tones, and it's easy to program each handset and the base to ring with a different tone by holding down the redial button on the handsets. You can also place callers on hold, and the line will be muted for privacy until you return.

The ClipFone can store up to 34 telephone numbers for memory dialing. There are 12 available numbers for each handset and an additional 10 numbers for the base. Each stored number can have up to 16 digits, making the memory feature perfect for both local and long- distance storage.

You can enhance your ClipFone by adding up to two additional handsets. Each of the four handsets features a different color code that corresponds to a number on the base. We admire the ClipFone's design, although some of the advanced features may take time for new users to master. Also, in our tests, the speakerphone muffled our voice even when we were standing near the base. Good:
Most phone functions work as indicated.

Bad:
- Speaker-phone function is not very clear, callers frequently tell me they have a hard time hearing me speak clearly. Volume for the speaker, although a slide type has one setting, LOUD.
- When hanging up the phone, one must be careful to get the charging lights in the lighted position. This is frustrating, and the first phone I have owned that did not self cradle for charging. Sometimes requires two or three times & holding your mouth right to get it to the correct position.
- The point made by an earlier reviewer about the hand set going into a continuous ring is true. This can be caused by a caller who calls and then hangs up before the hand set is lifted. You have to take the ringing hand set off of the cradle and hit the OFF button, and or remove the battery as stated to get the ringing to stop. I have returned from extended trips to find the phone ringing in a continuous ring.
- Batteries are not standard and must be ordered from AstraLink/ClipFone, although not very expensive($10.00) + $5.00 S/H, not being able to go to Radio Shack to get them is a joke!
- My wife and I have home offices, I thought this would do the trick for communication between she and I, however, she refuses to use this phone, she just hates it!

This phone won a lot of design awards, which is great if you are buying it to look at but if you need a good phone this is not it. It started doing funky stuff right from day one. The ringer gets "stuck" on on the handsets and can't be stopped without removing the batteries (not an easy task as they are really hard to open). For service you have an email address and an 800 number. I tried both 3 times and got NO RESPONSE!. I would not recommend this phone to anyone. Thankfully Amazon stands behind what they sell and took it back.

I think only the 1 star review is legitimate. If you look at the 5 star reviewers "all reviews" they are all similar; only reviewing a bunch of Mobile Solution hard drives, often on the same day which is pretty unlikely. Someone at Mobile Solutions isn't playing fair and I sure don't plan on buying any of their hard drives.

I had a simpler AT&T wireless phone. The phone was good, but the battery started not holding a charge long and it was cheaper to buy another phone than replace the battery, so I went phone looking. This one is really a great one, with a lot of features that you generally see in phones that cost twice this.

What I really like about it: Two lines. Each lines are clearly displayed with their own settings. You can control the ringer on the be base and the phone itself. You can have the base ring - or not - as each line has its own high, medium and off switch. Have one right and not the other. Turn both off. The same option with the handset. Each line can ring on the handset or not. Have 1 ring and 2 off. This is handy for Fax set ups.

The programing is simple. You want a distinct ring for each line, then you click it that line, punch 1,2,3,4 on the number pad and it will change the tone. Click select and you are ready. This is handy with two lines - you can have a separate ring for each. The button for each is clearly set on the handset. 1 and 2 buttons that are dial tone buttons. The volume for the handset it on the side. You don't have to change that in menu like I've always done on other wireless. So you can change this in the middle of the call without peeping in the callers ear!

It has mute controls for the base and the handset - for both lines again. Speaker-phone on the base. So if the handset is left at the other end of the house you can still take calls from the base. Hold, line-in-use indicator, a data port, intercom, pager, base-dialling and 2.4 GHz make this one sound like the caller is in the other room. 50 name in directory. The handset it nice and "solid". Read out for caller ID easy to read for this baby boomer.

So for the price you really cannot beat this one!

Good phone with unique feature combinations.......2004-10-01

There may be better cordless phones but this had the right combo of required features that were hard to match in other products - it supports 2 lines, caller ID, has an alert light for phone company voicemail, had a keypad on both the base and the handset, speakerphone, etc. Also, it uses 2.4Ghz channel 1 and to date it hasn't conflicted with my two 802.11 Wi-Fi network access points running on channels 6 and 11.

The main annoyance so far is a loud clicking sound on the handset earpiece when a call comes in on the other line, even with the alternate line ringer turned off. If you get freequent calls on a secondary line that might be a consideration.

A good phone is hard to find.......2004-09-02

I spend around 90 bucks for this phone at staples for my small home based business. At first it seems to have a lot of neat features but falls short when it comes to call quality. I have friends with $15 v-tech phones that sound better than this! There is static on the line and the tones for the buttons are so loud they'll blow your eardrums out while the voice tones stay too quite to hear. They are both on the same speaker so you can't adjust them independently. I suggest AT&T go back to the drawing board on this one. If I was going to spend $70-$90 on a phone again I would definately not buy this one. I think I will have to resort to buying a much more expensive phone to get the quality needed for a business phone although I've heard that even at $500 there's a lack of call quality. I may be switching to a VOIP system anyway so maybe I'll have better luck in that market.

No voice-mail feature.......2004-08-04

If like me you're buying this phone after reading the feature "visual message-waiting indicator" and thinking that this phone has a voice-mail system, then read this: this phone does not have a digital answering system in-built! It just uses your phone company's voicemail indicator (if you have that facility). So I am returning mine.
