Product Description
Apple iPod Shuffle - Using either witchcraft, fairy dust or highly gifted engineers (we're not sure which), Apple has created a 2nd generation iPod Shuffle of an almost impossibly small size. Only slightly bigger than a U.S. quarter, this teesy-weesy device packs 1GB of storage space. Enough for up to 250 of your favorite songs! Apple also attached a clip to the back of the Shuffle, so you can wear it anywhere for skip-free music playback. Perfect for working out or just walking down the street. Unit Dimensions - 1.62 x 1.07 x 0.41 (inc. clip) Unit Weight - 0.55 oz.

Great little mp3 player with a couple problems........2007-09-26
I will not say much about the good since there are so many positive reviews here already that would supply more information that I care to do. I will say the reason I bought this to replace my nano was the form factor and the lack of a scroll wheel. I liked the nano and really liked the lanyard headphones that allowed me to wear it around my neck. The problem was I found the scroll wheel too sensitive. Too often trying to skip to the next song found me accidentally increasing the volume and blowing my eardrums out.
Now for the shuffle's bad points...
1)It is gone! I lost it already after just a few months. The clip, which I thought would great, is not strong enough. The headphone cord is not long enough to keep it in my pocket, so it was usually clipped to my shirt somewhere or I would wrap the headphones around my neck and clip it to the wire. I was unloading some wood from my car and it fell off. This was right in front of my house but by the time I realized it was gone, someone had picked it up and made off with it already.
2)No folder support. Sure there is no screen but there could still be a button to skip to the next folder. The Creative Zen Stone I picked up after losing the shuffle has this ability(I DO NOT recommend it, however, see my review of that player). One gig holds 150 songs or so and I would like the ability to break that down a bit by mood, etc.
3)A bit expensive for a screenless 1 gig mp3 player.
So, I guess the improvements I would wish for would be folder support, a lower price and a stronger clip. Or, a clip free version that could be worn around your neck. I had a 256 mb pendant mp3 player from Virgin that was pretty good. Give it the shuffle's better controls and capacity and it would be great.
Excellent Value, for a Little Guy.......2007-09-25
I received this for my birthday and have used it for a week now. The most difficult part of set up was getting it out of the box. After that, it was so simple you mom may be able to do it all on her own. I was very surprised at the volume and clarity for such a small item. Fun and easy!
Awsome.......2007-09-24
I bought one for my little sister for her Birthday she absolutely loves it. My mom even steels it some times for when she works out at the gym. They are great compact, it is very simple to use and unlike other ipods it has an on and off button! It is great for people who just want a way to lisent to your music, it holds about 250 songs, so only put your favorites on the ipod. The only down side is it dosent have a screen do you have no way of knowing what song it is. It is great for long car rides too. I f you want a way to play all your music but your not ready to commit $200.00 this is the way to go.
Step back.......2007-09-23
I liked the first generation iPod shuffle better. It was small enough and it could be used as USB flash drive without carrying shuffle specific USB cable. I do not see single advantage of second generation iPod shuffle over the first one.
Ipod Shuffle 2nd Genatation.......2007-09-22
I purchased for my wife but I am the one that maintains it since my wife is a technophobe. My wife likes the small size and easy controls because it's great for her to take to the gym and on her walks. It is relatively easy to install but requires you at least have ITunes 7.0. In my opinion loading songs is not very intuitive and I know my wife would not be able to do it. I don't like that you can't tell what song is playing because there is no readout. I don't like that you have to actually copy songs from a cd to your computer to download to the device instead of just being able to load a cd and drag songs from the cd. The songs you add have to remain on your computer or the next time you connect the device to sync the songs you previously loaded will be erased. And the songs have to remain checked in ITunes or they will be erased. You have to buy a separate charger if you don't want to have to use the docking station which has to be connected to your pc therefore using a usb connection. Also, it has no radio tuner. It is for all these reasons I only give it a 2 rating. As I said my wife likes it but I would not recommend it.

After 2 years, still love it.......2007-09-26
I love my shuffle. It's still going strong after 2 years of heavy use during sports activities. When this one goes belly up, I'm going to get the new generation shuffle.
Great little gadget.......2007-08-06
This thing is ultra-sturdy despite its flimsy appearance. I have dropped it numerous times onto the ground and it has scratches all over the body, somehow it still manage to work normally. I use it extensively but the battery still holds up pretty well.
Bought it when it first came out............2007-05-31
I bought this the minute it came out because none of the existing iPod products at the time utilized flash memory--therefore they "skipped" during aerobic workouts. I use it a couple times a week and have loved it--but the slide on the back recently broke off. Even though I have the Nano, I'm gonna buy the new shuffle--I really enjoy the tiny size, and especially like the built in clip. I also suspect the new version will last longer, because it has fewer parts to break. I would have rated it a "5" if it had not broken.
ok...not worth it.......2007-05-11
I bought an iPod shuffle a summer ago, and loved it at first until all my friends laughed at me for buying an iPod without a screen. All of them had nanos. I felt left out. I am now going to buy another mp3 player. I have to admit I will still use it for exercising it is a great work out tool. Over all I don't think it's woth it buy a nano. A nano is just a little more money.
Convenient and Portable...but...........2007-03-25
Convenience and Portability
For travelers who frequent internet cafe's or businessmen/students who elect not to bring their laptops with them. The iPod 1 GB Shuffle is for you as there is virtually enough space for not only your files and tunes, but also your convenience since it can fit snuggly into your hip/back pocket or be easily accessible around your neck.
Some people believe that 1GB (240 songs at 4 minutes and a recording rate of 56 to 128 per song) may not be enough for the average joe. But I beg to differ, as if you were to base the shuffle on practicality, a person traveling to and from school/work/home wouldn't be able to listen to all the songs in a single setting because of life experiences (e.g., someone talking to the shuffle user, they tire of listening to music after some point, may be prone to theft in crowded areas, scratches, etc.).
This music player is geared towards individuals who are not too particular with viewing the song titles and simply desire to listen to selected music during activities like traveling, reading, working, and exercising.
Personally, I find the shuffle to be the most practical device to use in jogging, abdominal workouts, and weightlifting as you don't have to worry about where to put it, if it may fall, etc. It allows you to simply enjoy and concentrate on the task at hand--exercising! Finally, a device that serves you and not the other way around!
But...
However, much like the Nano and Video apple products, the shuffle scratches easily. If you are going to purchase this device and are particular about scratches, take the necessary precautions such as investing on a rubber case or i-Skin to rest your worries.
I hope that this review was helpful to you? If so, kindly vote for it. Thanks!

Smaller than a pack of gum and much more fun. |
DJ Your Day
If you favor cycling to a hip-hop soundtrack and snowboarding to a little electronica, Autofill iPod shuffle from a specific iTunes Playlist and roll. Download an album from the iTunes Music Store and listen to it in order before you Shuffle it into your collection. Or just drag and drop individual songs from iTunes onto iPod shuffle. With Play in Order mode, you manage the music. If things take a turn for the predictable, never fear. Turn iPod shuffle over, flip the slider to Shuffle and mix on the go.
Goes with Everything
iPod shuffle weighs as little as a car key and makes a tuneful fashion statement. Just throw the included lanyard around your neck and take a walk. Or run. Or ride. There's nowhere your skip-free iPod shuffle can't go, and with up to 12 hours of continuous playback time, it keeps going as long as you do. A neat little cap protects the USB connector, and those signature white earbud headphones tell the world you love to listen in style. You can even make your iPod shuffle splash-proof, arm-hugging, and longer-running with optional accessories. Ready for anything from a Transatlantic flight to a weekend at the beach, the iPod shuffle makes the perfect, low-maintenance pal.

Touch of Genius
Good things really do come in small packages. The controls on the iPod shuffle feel as intuitive and easy to use as those on every iPod model. Play, pause, skip, repeat, shuffle and hold at the touch of a thumb: The circular, ergonomic controls and one-click slider make it simple to listen without looking.
The Music Store in Your House
Add to the iPod shuffle mix with songs downloaded from the iTunes Music Store. Browse and preview more than one million songs, then buy what you want, 24-7, from the comfort of your Mac or PC. With the iTunes Music Store and iPod shuffle, you'll always have music at hand literally.
The smallest iPod yet, iPod shuffle fits neatly in the palm of your hand and looks just plain neat around your neck. Prepare to make friends and influence people when you wear it biking, hiking, snowboarding, dog-walking and anywhere else that could use a great soundtrack. |

Download an album and listen to it in order before you Shuffle it into your collection. |
 |
That includes off-the-beaten-path spots where you may need to play, pause, move back, skip forward, shuffle and turn up the volume without looking. Luckily, iPod shuffle pays due respect to its elders with a thumb-friendly, circular control pad that puts the 'go' in ergonomic.
Plug-and-Playlists
iPod shuffle makes syncing a piece of cake. Cupcake, even. Use the optional Dock to connect to your computer or just plug iPod shuffle directly into a USB port on any computer. Then drag and drop individual songs, Autofill your favorite playlists or Autofill your iPod shuffle with a random sampling from your music library. Since iPod shuffle automatically charges while syncing, it stays ready for your next adventure.
