5 out of 5 stars Great graphics card.......2003-07-31

I bought this item on september 2001 and has played me all the games i have. A friend has a 64mb card and yet, my 32mb radeon is still best. It runs all the games you can imagine. The FS2002 runs it perfectly. I am very pleased with this item. Definitely a must buy product.

5 out of 5 stars All you need to upgrade a Dell Dimension XPS-T500.......2002-01-06

I upgraded a Dell 500 MHz PIII stock Rage Pro to this Radeon and the difference is like night and day. Was going to also upgrade the CPU so I could play Ghost Recon, but heck, no need after dropping in a Radeon 32MB DDR. I went from not being able to run the game to getting a fast framerate at 800x600 32 bit color. Save 50% by shopping for an OEM version. Be sure to skip the Radeon VE, Radeon 7000 and 7200 as they are handicapped by either 64 bit data path or half-speed memory.

2 out of 5 stars Dont waste your time and money.......2001-11-28

I bought the ATI AllInWonder Radeon, and was so unhappy with the drivers that I will never buy ATI again. The AllInWonder cannot be used with Windows Media Encoder or RealProducer due to ATI's drivers. It has been a year and they still haven't fixed it. It took ATI months to come out with a good OpenGL driver. Using the ATITv app, going full screen locks up the system. Poor tech support on top of it.

The GuidePlus system is REALLY slow at downloading guide data...regardless of your connection speed.

4 out of 5 stars The older the radeon gets, the better it displays !!!.......2001-09-13

I really mean it what I say, "The older the radeon gets, the better it displays !!!". Let us start from the begining. When ATI released the Radeon, it was a excellent piece of hardware comparable to the best in the industry, BUT with very bad software support. The software support was so bad that it moved the product value from Excellent to Average-. The hardware was forced to perform several notches below its capabilities.

Over the last year, ATI's drivers have matured like wine. Now finally with the latest drivers, the Hardware is being used to the max and gives out excellent results. Performance in games under both Win98/ME and Win2K is excellent. The Radeon has always had excellent 2D to back it up and gives beautifull colour saturation. The same photograps on the Radeon look so very beautifull when I compare it to my original Gerforce.

On the negative side, the drawback is apparent. While the drivers have taken their own sweet time to mature, the product has gone down in the frame comparisons when rated with the Geforce 3 and Geforce 2 Ultras. But then I firmly believe that the Video in/out capability and excellent 2D anyday overweighs a few less frames in any game.

Parting shot: People talk of the Radeon giving lesser frames per second in Quake 3. Tell me, how many of you can differentiate between 75 frames/sec and 85 frames/sec ? If you think you cannot, and if you think 2D is important too as is video in/out, just go out and buy the Radeon. But do decide if you want the 32MB DDR or the 64MD DDR based on your needs and usage.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Product from ATI.......2001-09-02

I am avid computer upgrade geek formerly loyal to S3 and 3DFX. Now that they are both out of business I looked to ATI for my graphics needs. For some reason I hate Nvidia, same reason why I use AMD and hate Intel.

This video card just works perfect with my Via KT133A and Athlon 1000Mhz CPU. You just need to install Via's 4-in-1 drivers and DirectX 8. It should work fine afterwards. People shouldn't bash this card without trying to fix the problem.

The best feature that this card has that Nvidia GeForce2 lacks is DVD playback. This thing plays DVDs better than any software based solution. It also plays Counter-Strike and other games with great quality and speed.

I give this video card a perfect score. But I really need to get a new monitor, that has been screwing things up for me.

4 out of 5 stars A great card for the cost.......2000-09-12

I bought my S540 AGP last year for $130, and I have been very satisfied with its performance. I have it running on a Pentium III 500Mhz, 192MB RAM, 2x AGP slot with a 17" monitor. I have not had any problems with it on the windows desktop, and it performs very well for my graphic design applications. For the best performance in my 3D games I usually run them at 800x600 though 1024x768 is not bad at all. In games such as Thief and Need for Speed High Stakes, the performance is almost flawless. The games only skip frames during heavy hard drive access, which is probably caused by my computer (it needs a little fine tuning) Overall, I am very impressed with the card - especially since I am using it with a 2x AGP slot and it can handle 4x. I have not personally owned any comparable cards such as the Voodoo 3000 AGP, so I cannot compare their performance on my system, but I would definitely recommend the S540 AGP for 3D gaming or graphic design purposes.

4 out of 5 stars Some bugs but a nice card.......2000-08-12

Not a bad card at all. I have a celeron 266, and I am running all kinds of high demand games without too many problems. OpenGL freezes if you are overclocking or if you have the AGP aperature size too high. In Windows 2000, OpenGL is slow and choppy. Using Direct3D, games run smoothly. If you have Windows 98, OpenGL gives great textures and colors to everything. I have never had a lockup outside of a game. If they solved the OpenGL issues, this card would be a great buy.

1 out of 5 stars Crashes left and right-Stay Away!.......2000-07-31

Card proved itself to be extrememly unstable. Crashes in 3D mode on EVERY 3D game I tried, plus it froze numerous times just moving icons on the desktop. Microsoft itself says the Stealth cards are incompatible with many of their programs (including I.E. 5.0) I bought this card over the Voodoo 3 because of the additional memory, but the Stealth was very disappointing. The Voodoo 3 works a hundred times better.

      4 out of 5 stars Diamond Stealth 3 540 Extreme.......2000-07-25

I bought this card, and it runs fine on my P3-450. I expected more performance out it, but it does happen to out do Voodoo3 2000 in Quake 3. It could be better for the money. I don't see what problems other people have had with it, I haven't had a single problem with this video card. It has run completely fine. I would suggest a GeForce 256 over this card though.

1 out of 5 stars VERY BAD CARD!.......2000-07-12

I bought this card hoping it would be better than my Voodoo2. It was for a while but then it started to crash and my computer froze almost every time I turned it on. I fixed some of them but gave up and returned it. My new card works much better.

Slow card bad investment, Direct X7 support for old games from 1999.

this is very old card introduced in 1997.
that time maybe it was a good card, but now in these days it will dissapoint you.
get Rodeon 7000 or something better.
I would not recomand this card for gammers!
too slow , poor quality video

        5 out of 5 stars Rock solid!.......2001-10-14

This card rocks! I use it under linux and it is ROCK SOLID. Nvidia obviously puts a lot of testing into these cards and their drivers. If you are a completely hard core gamer, this may not be for you, but for most 3d games (e.g. Quake 3) it works great.

        3 out of 5 stars Ok Card.......2001-08-08

This card no one chose 2 write a review for so i guess i will. Its ah good card especially for the price but if u have extra cash dont be afraid 2 use it 2 get something better. For gamers this card may be a lillte 2 soft for u.I recommend something a little higher cost. 3 out of 5 stars Not for Win2000 second monitor.......2001-12-15

I installed this video board for a second monitor on my WIN2000 PC. Many conflicts with drivers, etc. After a few days of research I found out that the ATI Rage 128 boards will work but this one won't. Hopefully this review will save you the trouble I went through. Dell sales people and even techies were lost on the issue and it took a week to get a straight answer from ATI.

3 out of 5 stars It was cheaper two years ago..........2001-12-08

(...)I'm not sure if I was buying a new video card now that I would buy this one. It's fairly weak and wouldn't be very useful for anyone planning on doing any serious amount of gaming, however if you just need something to output a picture, this will sure do it. It is Windows XP compatible, so that's a plus.

3 out of 5 stars nice card flaky drivers.......2001-11-14

ati drivers tend to me a bit flaky. this is an old card

            2 out of 5 stars Not a good 3d card.........2000-12-29

This card came with my computer.. I didn't keep it long. It struggles to handle any 3d video game. It gives horrible 3d performance and makes it virtually impossible to play games like Quake 3, Half-Life, or Unreal Tournament. If you are looking for a card you probably already have a better card than this in your computer. Try to avoid this....

            1 out of 5 stars Don't be fooled by "3D" label.......2000-11-14

This card will do the job for normal people, that is for word processing, etc. However demanding enthusiasts will notice immediately that using this for high-performance graphics applications this is an impractical solution. Games like NFS3, Quake3 or Half-Life the "3D" title on this product is very misleading as 3D acceleration is simply at its worst.

1 out of 5 stars Eater of tapes!.......2007-09-23

I bought several of these for use in my third grade classroom, both for listening to tapes and for kids to record their own books-on-tape. Like others have said, you get what you pay for with this product. Right away I lost three tapes to these machines. Plus, the volume control is extremely touchy... the slightest tap and it's WAY TOO LOUD, slightly tap it the other way and you can't hear a thing. As I haven't even tried to use them as voice recorders (I'm not trusting one more tape to these things!) I can't report on that aspect, but the volume control and tape ruining issues are more than bad enough.

4 out of 5 stars Works fine for books on tape.......2007-09-09

I don't know why the other reviewers are so down on this item. I agree it's not wonderful for listening to music, but if you only listen to talk radio and books on tape, this machine does fine. It has never eaten any tapes I put in it. Can't beat the price. Why pay more for a boombox that has a CD or stereo sound, if you don't need it. These days, it's difficult to find any boombox that plays cassettes - I looked at lots of stores. I'm very happy with this purchase.

              1 out of 5 stars A Huge Disappointment.......2007-05-09

I purchased this cassette player for my son, so we could listen to his books on tape in the car since I only have a CD player in my car. The sound quality is so poor, you can hardly understand the words. Also, it ate one of his tapes, and before that happened, it was difficult to get it to play at times. It is very cheap and poorly made and I threw it away. You get what you pay for, and if you're looking for a cassette player, don't get this one!

1 out of 5 stars Mine was just horrible.......2005-11-30

I really urge everyone to stay far away from this product if you value your cassettes. The one I purchased mangled the first cassette I put in (an irreplaceable one - how could I have been so silly as to put it in without testing the player?). In any case, this product really is a piece of junk. But then, you get what you pay for.

I do want to add that amazon came through for me.

2 out of 5 stars not for recording.......2005-09-15

I bought this for recording my son playing violin for his review, but the play back sound was terrible.
Not clear and not big enough.
I was very disappointed with this one.
I should have bought Sony one.
