Audiovox's affordable D1705 features a broad, seven-inch widescreen (16:9 aspect ratio) LCD, and compatibility with DVD-Video, VCD/SVCD, audio CD, CD-R, CD-RW, and MP3-encoded discs. Both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's coaxial digital-audio output for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver.

Composite-video and stereo analog-audio inputs and outputs let you hook up additional AV gear for viewing through the D1705. All audio and video inputs and outputs are of the minijack .125-inch size, so compatible adapter cables are required (one stereo analog audio and one composite-video cable are supplied). Playback options include frame-by -frame slow motion, zoom (2x, 3x, or 4x), and multiple angle viewing (with applicable discs).

Used to love the product but hate the customer service........2006-12-07

I purchased this DVD about 2 years ago for my daughter to use in the car for long trips. I must admit that I love this product--picture was good, the sound was good, very portabele especially with the slim battery pack that attaches to the botton of the DVD player and it seldoms skips even with hard bumps or driving over frost heaves or holding it uneven. During daylight, it is harder to see the screen (not sure if the other brands will do any better). The really great thing for us is that this DVD was multi-regional. Because of that feature I had purchased 2 more Audiobox D1708 portable players for friends--which is not as sleek looking as the D1705, especially since battery goes on the back of the player. At this point, the 3 Audiobox DVDs that I have purchased were all multi-regional.

Lately after 2 years, the D1705 is no longer working right. The screen will momentarily work perfect then it will go off, then it might work perfect again after 5 mins. Although the unit is still usable as a DVD player if plugged into a regular TV monitor. So, to replace this malfunctioning unit, I purchased a D1708 (I didn't know at that time that the D1705 were still available)--however, to my horror, it is NO LONGER MULTI-REGIONAL!!! I called Audiobox to inquire if they just started limiting the DVD's to Region 1--and much like the other customers, I had a really bad experience with the Audiovox customer service--very rude and accusatory. The person that I spoke to accused me of tampering the units to make them multi-regional because she said that Audiovox only makes Region 1 DVD players (I did wish I were smart enough to tell her right off that I would not have bothered calling them if I already knew how to change the unit I just returned to a multiregional player). Now that I know that these D1705 still exists, I would have liked to replace my malfunctioning unit with this one since the battery pack we have still works for 3 hours (knock on wood)--the spare battery would be great on long plane rides. But now I am hesitant to support Audiovox anymore and if they stop selling multi-regional players--then they really don't have my business anymore. Besides, I don't really know if these portable DVD players could possibly have a longer life than 2 years.

Dead battery.......2006-05-19

My unit works only plugged, so the battery is dead. Now I have to either get a replacement batery or buy a new unit (certainly not an Audiovox). Even when the battery worked, the recharging time was around 8 hours, so it was good for one movie. I am thinking on Panasonic as reviews in general are good.

Good performance, bad battery, awful customer service.......2005-12-21

I have the private-labeled "Eddie Bauer" version of this unit and it plays exactly 5 minutes on battery. Once private labeled, no one, including Audiovox, has any information on the unit so that I can replace the battery. Customer service at Audiovox is atrocious; consequently I will avoid their products at all costs in the future. I think the unit was shipped with an alkaline battery, notorious for developing discharge memory. Replacing with a high amp-hour lithium ion battery will eliminate this problem... assuming I can figure out which battery fits the unit. Truly, companies like Audiovox are subscribing to the throw-away economy where products are assumed to be obsolete immediately on release and little is done to take care of customers down the road. Too bad.

This is an awsome DVD player that every one should own.......2005-05-17

I have another DVD player but this one is so much better. This one has long battery, can play any type of DVD (not kiding). Its plug has a converter built into it so all you need to do is hook it up with a adapter and any where in the world it will work. I have droped it more than once and let me tell you it works the same as it worked before. One problem would be that it gets scratched up esaily but can live for a long time. :) :D

Great product ... when it works.......2005-02-23

Great poduct, when it woks. I'm currently on my 4th unit in the last month (First 2 were the D1705 model and the next 2 were the D1708 model).

First off, picture is great. That's why I keep trying to find one that actually works. Very sharp and good color.

Sound isn't bad, but it's alot better on the D1708 unit since they added another pair of speakers on the screen and a second headphone jack. The D1708 though does have a plastic case and is bulkier, but the better sound makes up for it.

Now, on to the problems that I've had. First unit would skip. Second one had a battery with a 1 hour life. Third unit would freeze on me.

After returning it the last time, I almost switched to a Toshiba unit, but the Audiovox is such a nice unit ... when it works. Plus the store I bought it at offered a 4 year warranty for $20 ... so it's up them to keep it working.

Well I had been shoping around for weeks & weeks for a new portable cd player for that the one I had burned out after 7 years of use. When I started the shop around I said that I was looking for a portable CD player that can play CD-R/RW CD's along with a radio & I ran across this CD player. What made me start to look deeper at this player was the fact that this was an Aiwa product & the price for all the features.

CD Player: This is a good CD Player. It has a resume feature which will let you stop in the middle of a track & start exactly where you stopped the CD player. Also you can set a program to play certain songs in any order that you please. Also the CD player has a non-skip feature at either 12 seconds or 48 seconds, so that you can jog with the unit if you please. This player also plays back the recordable CD'S good.

AM/FM Radio: The AM/FM radio really good, the reception is pretty good. You can also preset numerous stations for memory. When the FM Radio is in stereo sound.

TV Radio: The TV tuner is a VHF tuner only but has good reception also.

Weather Radio: The weather radio was low & has a lot of static, but maybe that depends where I was located, so I'm still exploring with the weather radio.

Other notes: This player has 38 hour playback on battery power. Also this unit includes DSL sound (bass boost) for richer sound.
The unit runs on 2 AA batteries (not included) or electric by using a DC adapter (not included).

Overall I give this CD player 5 stars & very pleased with this selection.

Great Personal CD player for a moderate price!.......2002-11-30

I received my order from J&R within a day! The shipment was rapid indeed! The CD player has a alot of added features like FM/AM radio, weather, and TV stations. The CD player works well, but as other reviewers have noted the cover is a little loose, but does not effect the smooth playing of your CDs. I am pleased with the sound quality of the CD player. The weather band is a little staticky which probably is the same with many other weather band radios, and perhaps, the area in which one lives. The FM/AM radio is clear. TV features is ok but sometimes staticky when you move a certain way. Head phones are comfortable.
Overall, I am pleased with this purchase and probably will buy another one as a gift since it has quite a few features and is moderately priced. It's a wise purchase for the money!!

This is a good CD player, it has digital am/fm radio, tv reception, an weather reception. These work fine, but get a little staticy. The CD cover is also a little loose. This player also has anti-shock, either 48 seconds, or 12 seconds. Overall, I would say this product is a good buy.

Aiwa XP - R232 CD Player.......2002-11-21

For the past year, I had been looking everywhere for a new cd player. The one i had was falling apart - its shut off at random times, was big and clumsy, and worst of all, there was no anti-shock system on it. I was willing to spend a certin amount of money for a good, dependable cd player, but I did not want anything too exorbiontly priced. I finally stumbled along Amazon.com, and figured what the heck, I might as well see if they offer anything fair-priced. This was definatley the right decision! I found the Aiwa XP-R232 and knew that this was the one for me. It has digital AM/FM radio, 30 preset channels, a weather mode, where you can listen to the forecast in your area, and it gets TV reception - you can listen to your favorite show even without a TV! And, of course, EASS 3X - it contains an anti-shock system up to 48 seconds, and does not skip. It is also very compact - this was a plus. I bought it - ... , who wouldnt? However, I thought that maybe the price was an indicator, and I was not completely wrong. While the radio and Tv reception work fine (you use the headphones as antennaes), the weather was a little disappointing. The CD part works fine, but now that I look at it, less than 24 hours after I opened it, the cover seems a bit loose on one side. I hope this will not affect it's playing. However, it is VERY light and small, just like it says. And the anti-shock - perfect!
I am recommending this product to everyone, although i hav not yet tried running with it, so I cannot tell you how good it is in that situation. I can tell you though, that if you buy this CD-Player, it will be worth your [money], if not more.

I'm an avid books on tape listener and this is by far the best tape player I've found. With large FF and REW buttons as well as a stop button and HUGE play button, I can easily find my place on the tape without looking! I also love the snappy colors.
