Convenient and cool, but it's USB 1.1 only.......2004-07-12

I've had this installed for around six months now. It's cool, and I definitely needed a way to plug USB devices into the front of my computer. I only have one Firewire device, but I'm happy to have the port for when friends want to plug their iPods into my system.

This hub is really nice for two main reasons:
1. External USB hubs cause a lot of clutter -- especially when you have as many gadgets as I do. Internal hubs are neat and tidy.
2. The fact that you can put this hub into an (almost definitely) unused 3.5 inch drive bay is very valuable, because you are far more likely to want to use the larger drive bays for other expansion in the future, but it's unlikely you'll need another 3.5 inch floppy drive -- ever ;-)

Two slight drawbacks, however:
1. As soon as I installed it, I was kicking myself for forgetting that I wanted to plug USB 2.0 devices into it. For that reason, I'm thinking about replacing this thing with a USB 2.0 compatible device.
2. One other weird thing -- this makes sense, but I hadn't really thought about it until I installed this hub -- is you have to plug it into an existing USB and Firewire port on the back of your computer. It has a USB plug and a Firewire plug that come out of the back of the computer, and then you plug it into your existing ports.

I think this is a cool product especially if you ran out on PCI slots. In case of a PCI slot however, you need to mess behind the computer. This one gives a front access which you will usually need with USB and Firewire devices. 4 USB and 2 Firewire is a great lot too.

I've had this this for years and it still kicks out the tunes. I lost the remote a long time ago and have had no problems with using just the unit. DON'T ever lose the instructions, you'll never ever figure out how to turn the alarms off.

Refurbished - Never Again.......2005-03-30

I ordered this unit refurbished in Feb. 2004. Main reason I bought it was for the CD player for my work desk. Within 3 months and very, very little play time the CD unit crapped out. I don't get radio reception so the unit is worthless to me - in more ways than one. I'll never, ever buy refurbished ANYTHING again. Just throwing money out the window.

I paid 50 bucks for a refurbished unit. Nice product good sound (not great but for 50 bucks hey!) Easy to program, lots on features such as a weekend alarm. Holds 3 CD's. Lots of radio station program storage. PLUS a remote control.
Only negative... remote does not control the volumn.

Great clock radio!.......2003-11-29

Based on the first review, I sent for this clock radio, and have to agree... it's great! The sound is wonderful, the CD changer works great, and the instructions are easy to follow for setting up alarms and CD programs. The sound is crisp and clear, and I like having many of the buttons on the unit itself as well as on the remote.

The only things I wish this clock radio had were a dimmer option for the light (though I must admit that the light is not glaring in the least,and it's not a gigantic problem) and a bass booster.

The listing on Amazon said that the unit could play CD-R/RW's, so I had some concerns when the instructions said that they might not work. However, so far I've had no trouble with playing them.

I was originally looking for a clock radio that had a tape player as well as a CD changer... but they're not even made anymore unless you get them in a mini-system, which was far too large for my nightstand. However, I'm going to get the hardware to transfer my tapes to CD, which I'll then be able to play on this clock radio.

I'm really pleased with this unit and have NO regrets about purchasing it. I too, did a whole lot of research (online as well as in stores) before deciding on this particular CD clock radio. It's a nice-looking radio, and I'm glad I got it!

As advertised: a good microscope for an intermediate hobbyist.......2006-01-19

NOTE: At the time of review, one of the images posted by Amazon is not correct: image displayed is of a lower model. The distinction is important because, among other things, the 9400 focuses by moving the objective/turret up and down.

This is a good microscope for a high-school student or adult hobbyist. But it doesn't mean that somebody in college won't enjoy it. The only limitation is on the maximum 400x magnification. For advanced college level study, higher
magnification will be desired for viewing certain organisms.
Of course, depending on your interest, you may never need more than 400x.

The optics and focusing mechanism enable you to view clear, sharp images at the maximum 400x magnification. It does have a fine-focus control, but I find that I don't use it that much: with a steady hand, the course focus is faster and just as effective. The course focus would be more critical at higher magnifications.

Originally, I wanted a scope with it's own light source, preferably, LED illumination to reduce the need to be near an electrical outlet. However, I find that the mirror provides plenty of light - as long as there is a lamp or a bright window nearby. In fact, for small translucent organisms, one will often need to reduce light in order to see them properly.

The scope uses a 5 hole disc diaphram to help adjust lighting: that just means that there is a disc with five different sized holes in it. The large hole lets in the most light...the small hole lets in the least. You get the idea. The system is adequate enough for an intermediate scope, and you can add extra precision by adjusting the mirror accordingly.

Adjusting the mirror does require some minor attention and some people may find it bothersome. But if you're careful enough to be viewing small and delicate things under a microscope, then you probably have the dexterity and patience to adjust the mirror without giving it much thought.

It doesn't have a mechanical stage, but this is another feature that really isn't needed at 400x. A little nudge is all it takes.

The microscope stands about 14" high; you may want to use a thick book to help adjust the height for comfortable viewing.

The microscope is manufactured in China. If you think heavy is a sign of quailty...it's heavy. The machining on the body could be more refined, but, as I mentioned earlier, it has enough precision in the critical areas. Weight helps to keep it steady. But how heavy does it need to be? I think the industry might consider the use of more high-grade plastics to help refine things and reduce weight.

I bought the 9400 on sale. In the future, if my interest in microbiology persists, I may upgrade to a more advanced model. But for now, I'm happy with it.

Not everything i expected........2001-05-06

i am very familiar to microscopes but this one is very painful. it does not give the sufficient ammount of light because it contains a mirror, the microscopes with lamps in them are way better. other than that the microscope is pretty good with the lenses but i wouldnt waste my money on this.
