Good basic memory card recorder.......2004-08-25

I was a little hesitant to buy this item since I read reviews that it may not work with memory stick pro cards. They have fixed that issue and this thing works like a dream. Pretty fast and easy to use. The only gripe is the size. I bought it so that I do not have to take my laptop on vacation, but the size almost makes me want to take the laptop...almost. Great for vacationers who do not want to worry about too much technology.

I just got back from my family vacation and I have to tell you besides taking all site seeing pictures that included all the family, the most fun I had was being able to give my brother and his wife and my parents each a CD of all the pictures before it ended. Like others I got into Digital Photogrphy the end of last year. The problem I have it that Flash memory is expensive. With the Digital Photo Copy Cruiser every day I take a few hundred pictures on my Canon camera and at the end of the day, I put the memory card in the Digital Photo Copy Cruiser, put a CD in, push a button and a few minutes later they are written to CD. It's great.

Junk. After both my husband and I spent 3 hours each trying to get this thing to work, we are still only able to view 3 of the 97 photos from the CD this thing supposedly "copied" from the compact flash card. The rest of the photos files are unreadable. Big Disappointment.

Won't copy from Memory Stick PRO media.......2004-03-11

I purchased the unit to transfer photos from my Sony Memory Stick and Memory Stick PRO media to CD. The unit seems to work great for Memory Stick, but will not recognize Memory Stick PRO. I have contacted the company for support and they seem to be responsive to my issue. While I have not yet recieved a solution to my problem, they have been answering emails and phone calls and said they are working on the issue. I am optimistic. As far as the vendor, I ordered late Thurs nite and had it by Saturday.

Run, don't walk away..............2005-07-15

I purchased the Digital Photo Copy Cruiser Plus to use on vacation. What a waste of money. Yes, it did as advertised - but only after spending 30 minutes on the phone with tech support to get it to copy a 2gb card. The 'instructions' in the manual are not complete and it turns out you can ONLY can use the disk spanning capabilities with the REMOTE.... excuse me? What if you forget the remote... too bad... you are out of luck. Who in the heck thought that was a good idea? I wish I could give this less than 1 star.....

This thing is going up on eBay ASAP.

Fast Ethernet is all the rage in home and small office networks these days due to its blazing 100 Mbps speeds. Some folks, however, have found that they can save cash and still get decent performance by opting for a slower 10Base-T network kit. However, in that regard 3Com's 3C1509 networking kit falls short, as it's more expensive than some 100 Mbps kits we've tested.

The hub included in this kit is bigger than any other four-port design we've tested, as it uses the same case as its eight-port big brother, making it unnecessarily bulky.

The cables aren't shielded as well as they could be, but it didn't seem to hinder performance in our tests. One nice thing about the included cables is they're light tan, so they should blend in better with home and office decor than the bright blue cables some other products come with. They're also longer than average, measuring 25 feet each.

The two network interface cards (NICs) that come with the kit interface with ISA slots. Newer computers have only a few of these slots since the technology is slowly being phased out, so make certain you have one that isn't in use before ordering this kit.

Installation was a mixed bag. On one of our test machines, the NIC was immediately identified, and we had no trouble installing the drivers. Our other PC didn't fare as well. Plug-and-play detection went into an endless loop of driver installation, and it took some doing to get the NIC recognized by both Windows 98 and the 3Com configuration software.

The user's manual did little to help our problems. It's a thick book that, unfortunately, has not been updated in a while. It covers DOS, Windows 3.x, Windows 95, and Windows NT but makes no mention of Windows 98. Typically, Windows 95 installation instructions are sufficient for a smooth Windows 98 installation, but not in this case.

When everything was up and running, the kit worked as advertised, matching the performance of similar 10Base-T kits we've tested. The front of the hub has all the requisite status lights to indicate the power status, port activity, and network collisions.

This isn't the type of kit that can easily be upgraded to 10/100Base-T should your needs warrant the speed increase. Upgrading would require the replacement of every component, including the cabling. The hub does offer some expandability in that the fourth port can act as an uplink to interface with another hub. Of course, this means you can only attach three computers to the hub when it's running in this configuration.

Although you get everything you need to connect two PCs with this kit, we were left wondering why it costs more than some 10/100Base-T kits we've tested. It's possible to get a 10/100Base-T kit with a five-port switched hub for less money. While 3Com's software is superb and they offer free technical support and a lifetime warranty for this product, it still doesn't make sense to buy a package full of aging components when you can get a kit that is ten times faster for about same price. --T. I have not bought this product and tested it, and have no plans in doing so. However, I justify my rating of 1 star simply because the price is too high for this technology. Amazon in its review mentioned that you can buy a networking kit TEN TIMES FASTER for the SAME or LESS price, and I totally agree!! It is simply not logical to purchase this item, it is a riff-off. You're paying more for less!

Find other networking kits here which are faster and cheaper alternative like: Linksys FESWSK5 EtherFast Switched 10/100, Linksys FESWSK5 EtherFast Switched 10/100, D-Link DFE-910 10/100 Network-In-A-Box with 5 Port Switch, etc.

Don't be fooled by the 3 stars.......2000-04-11

I was very disapointed in the way the internal network cards that came with this product worked in my machines. Basically, they didn't. because of the IRQ conlficts I was unable to resolve, I had to turn around and buy two more NICs (I highly recommend Netgear USB NICs, BTW). The only reason I gaive it 3 stars is because of the hub which works well and seems to be high quality. 3-Com dropped the ball on this one.
