You can shoot 8 frames per second, up to 50 frames continuously (jpeg, 40 raw) with this Nikon workhorse. And don't be fooled -- that 8 fps is not just for sports. I shoot photos for a Disney travel guide (The Complete Guide to Walt Disney World), and being able to zip off shots like that lets me get just the right facial expressions for people and wildlife, and capture subjects at the moment they look straight into my lens. It's terrific for twirling dancers! When I work with this camera I always end up sweating like a pig, but always get at least one shot that is far better than I planned.
Other pluses:
1. Fast focus (otherwise, what's the point?)
2. Good build quality.
3. Accurate battery gauge.
4. Auto ISO (lets you prioritize shutter speed and the camera adjusts the film speed, though I never get good results over 1200 ISO or so).
5. A large bright LCD (chimps rejoice!) makes it easy to review your shots.
Really there's only two problems: image size is just 4.1 meg (sometimes my facial features or other small details suffer) and there's too much noise at high ISOs. How does it camera compare to the new Canon models? In my experience (limited), I noticed that the Canon focused a hair faster and is more forgiving in shadow detail, but my Nikon was always a little more sharp.

Most of my friends suggest that I buy a camera by Canon. It would be only 1/3 the price, maybe half the price. But they spend most of the time correcting the RAW files in Aperture or Lightroom and I have always perfect pictures. No corrections, no electronic image retouche. Just great pictures!
And yes, it's worth the price. You save countless hours and tons of GB harddisc space. Don't accept a second best solution. If you can afford a Nikon D2HS SLR go for it!
Excellent Value; Repeat Customer.......2007-02-15
This is the second factory refurbished camera I have purchased from Cameta Auctions (this time through Amazon.com). Both cameras have been in perfect condition 10/10 and have performed flawlessly. As a result, I have been able to upgrade my equipment to professional level camera bodies at a cost of $[...] on the dollar. I have no hesitation recommending the purchase of factory refurbished cameras, either through Cameta or any of the other vendors with which Amazon is connected.

This camera is designed for journalists and journalists alone. 4 MP means that the maximum size you can make prints at 300 DPI is roughly 6" x 8". That's fine if you're submitting images to a newspaper, but if you have any chance of wanting enlargements you'll be better off with something with more resolution.
Funny thing is that the Canon sports camera is roughly the same price and shoots 8.5 fps at 8.2 MP. I'm sure Nikon could do better, but perhaps there just isn't a market for Nikon sports cameras, I mean, look at the amount of white lenses on any mayor sporting event!

I just thought I'd point out that this is a sports camera with an amazing buffer + continuous shooting mode. Here are the specs:
* Continuous High [CH] - 8 fps
* Continuous Low [CL] -1 to 7 fps (programmable)
* Buffer size 50 JPEG frames, 40 NEF (RAW) frames *
THIS is the only reason to buy this camera over the D1X or D70. But if you're looking for a great studio camera, the D1X won't let you down, and if you're just getting into DSLR's, the D50/ D70 are great bodies to get started on.

The Panasonic CT36HX40 has a 36-inch PureFlat screen with a two-tuner picture-in-picture, split-screen display, a progressive-scan doubler for an incredibly sharp picture, and a 3-D comb filter to remove dot crawl and increase color separation.
HDTV compatible, this TV is capable of receiving and playing DTV programming that is broadcast in either 1080i or 720p format. This tv is a flagship for its sound, picture and features. The sound has an A/I capibility for even better sound. It also has a 3-D Spatializer. This makes the sound, sound like it's coming from the front and the sides of you. This picture is great. It has a 3D-Y/C FILTER for better picture resolution. It is also easy to change the color tone. You can change it between WARM, COOL, and NORMAL. The features are very useful. There are parental controls, timers, automatic programming, and more. The review with the green tint probably had their tint coloring all the way to max or min. It should be in the middle for normal color.
Great Great TV.........2002-08-20
The first thing i noticed about this Tv when i was comparing it to the Sony 36 inch HDTV was that the picture was so much clearer on this one...also it was easy to hear the sound even in a noisy place like Best Buy.. It wasn't hooked up to a surround sound system but simulated 3-d surround sound. I have it hooked up to a Panasonic Dvd player and progressive scan looks great!!! BUY THIS TV!!!!!!
at 24" D, least depth in class.......2002-08-15
Got this TV a month ago and have been very happy. Ditto what others say about picture quality... to my eyes better than Toshiba and Sony sets I considered.
One item others haven't mentioned is depth. At 24" deep this is the most svelte 36" HDTV (-ready) I could find. We've put it in an entertainment center made of stock cabinetry, anything over 24" would have hung over the front edge. This set fits perfectly.

I recently shopped HDTVs and had a look at the CT36HX40. It's absolutely incredible. It reduces the watcher to an immovable mass of jelly, content to sit staring even at commercials. Alas, it's outside my budgetary window, so I'll have to impatiently sit and wait for prices to come down. I've never seen detail, brightness and lifelike contrast like this. I might yet be able to turn into a couch potato if we ever get one of these...

My wife and I have been nursing along a 21-year old, 19-inch GTE/Sylvania color TV, that she had purchased as a Freshman in college. Single speaker, retractable rabbit antenna . . .
the unit is probably coal-burning.
Enter the world of "INVAR Shadow Masks", "Anamorphic DVD Detection", and "3D Y/C Digital Comb Filter". While these sounded like instruments of a CIA field agent . . we just wanted a great picture. Not wanting to look like total imbeciles, we researched the Net, including the Amazon site.
After going to numerous stores to compare 36-inch sets, we can say without qualification - the picture clarity on the Panasonic CT36HX40 literally spanks the pants off anything else we looked at . . with the possible exception of the SONY XBR250 - the set we originally considered.
The problem with the SONY XBR250 is that at 40-inches across, it's impossible to find a well-made entertainment center large enough to hold this digital mausoleum. The only alternative was to have a cabinet-maker do a custom-build . . or order a Contemporary glass/chrome TV pedestal/settee...
We have hooked up the Panasonic set to a SONY DVPNS700P DVD player/ w progressive scan, and so far, the the picture has been astonishing. For those who don't want to hire the Army Corps of Engineers to install a 5-channel home-theatre/ video receiver/AC3 experience, or go throught a pre-flight check before turning the unit on, the Pansonic provides a nice 3D surround sound built right-into the set.
Do yourself a huge favor and have it home-delivered. [The set is] 242 lbs...

Philips Magnavox's 9P5531C 55-inch TV incorporates MagnaBrite lenses, 7- inch liquid-cooled-and-coupled picture tubes, and digital convergence technology for an enhanced picture with consistent edge-to-edge brightness, high contrast, and balanced color alignment. The wide-band amplifier extends the video bandwidth to 10 MHz for greater picture detail and up to 800 lines of horizontal resolution. The 181-channel tuner supports picture-in-picture viewing and trilingual (English, Spanish, and French) onscreen setup and programming.
Component-video inputs support high-resolution digital sources, such as DVD players and Internet set-top boxes, for superb color detail and purity. The TV also has a pair of audio-video jacks, two S-Video inputs, a video out, and two sets of fixed/variable audio outputs.
The 10-watt stereo surround system utilizes a pair of 4-by-6-inch full-range speakers, an MTS/SAP decoder, dbx noise reduction, bass boost, and individual bass, treble, and balance controls for personal listening preferences. True Surround and Incredible Stereo sound technologies let you experience full, three-dimensional audio. SmartSound keeps consistent volume levels between programs and commercials, and from one channel to another.
Convenient features include V-chip parental control, a sleep/alarm timer, closed captioning, and programmable scan tuning. A universal remote control (with batteries) is included.

Great set and picture for the money........2001-01-17
I was a little leary of purchasing another projection TV as I owned a Mitsubishi 45 inch set back in 1986 and was not pleased with the side angle view, the problem repairs, nor the short life expectancy (3 1/2 yrs.) of that set. The low price of the Philips Magnavox 55" at first drew my attention, but when I saw the picture quality and side view (awesome), I was sold. The better the broadcast signal, the better the picture quality on this set. DVD's look awesome, animated broadcasts look especially impresive and the sound is an unexpected bonus. So far I have nothing but good to say about this set. If you purchase one, you will not be disappointed.

What Can I Say !!.......2001-01-06
I've just purchased the Philips 55PP9501 55" Wide Screen 100HZ Digital ready Rear projection TV. The Picture quality at 100HZ scan is so real that when there is a Water scene you want to reach out and dip your fingers in the water!. With the added benefit of a 100Watts Built in Sound System - I tell you I'm having trouble getting anything else done. My wife reckons it was the biggest mistake getting one as Now We do'nt go out as often. I just can't wait to get a DVD player to top it of. Highly recommended.
Phillips Magnavox 55" Projection Television.......2000-12-12
I bought one of these sets. It is awesome. For the price it beat all of the competition. The picture is crisp and clear and the sound quality from it's internal audio system is incredibly clear. This is a great television for anyone who wants a projection screen TV. I give it two thumbs up!! You won't be disappointed with this set.
