I bought my husband this DVD player when he was deployed 2 years ago. It has survived 6 months tossed around Fort Dix, NJ, months of daily train commutes and over a year in the deserts of Iraq. Now, if that's not durability, I don't know what is!
Audiovox is the worst company I have ever dealt with...........2005-01-04
My husband bought me this player less than 3 years ago for mothers day. The screen died while my son was watching it. I could get sound and a faint picture but mostly black screen. It was still under warranty when this happened. I dealt with Audiovox customer service regularly for 4 months before they replaced it with the D1730 stating that it couldnt be repaired. I was upset because I lost some of the features I liked about this DVD player ie: the ability to charge the battery while my son watched a DVD. All the service people kept saying was "but the screen is bigger" as if that would be the only feature I cared about. I have had the 1730 under 2 years and it only gets occasional use when we are on a long car trip. The screen on this player has now died; right in the middle of a trip my 5 year old starts to cry because he cant see the screen. The same problem as the last player I had. I will never buy another Audiovox product again and as you can see from my review, if I can save anyone else the agony of dealing with Audiovox customer service, I will.
I would highly recommend you go running from any product Audiovox makes. [...]
It just keeps going.......2004-04-08
I bought this model almost 3 years ago and it is indistructable. I bought it for my husband but we ended up using it to entertain our son when we go out to eat. We have used this at least twice a week for 3 years and it performs great. It still holds a 3 hour charge. We have taken it on planes, in the car, every where and it keeps going. I'm looking to buy another one but will probably get a newer model. Hope it holds up as well.
tooooo hot!.......2004-04-05
We purchased this unit about 3 weeks ago and noticed the very first day how incredibly hot this unit gets! We have only watched about 4 movies on it so far, but every time we do it gets very hot in the base near the AC/DC adapter, and the last time we used it, very hot in the upper left corner above the screen. It works fine so far, although the volume could be louder on the speakers. I cannot believe that it is good for the unit to operate at these temperatures, and with all of the bad reviews, I plan on trying to return mine to Wal-Mart.
Audiovox DVD Player is a real piece of [junk].......2004-03-01
I bought this model new 2 years ago. This player was treated with kid gloves and never abused and only played about 100 hours in the last 2 years. It worked great for 18 months. Gradually I started noticing that some DVDs would not play on it. None of the newer Disney movies will work. Most new DVDs won't work I am lucky to get 1 out of 5 to play. and... all the DVDs I have tried are new DVDs - not rentals.
I took it back to the place I bought it and they cleaned everything and it still does not work...
In addition, this player is ok to listen to on audio if you are in a quiet place, but try to listen to it when there is noise - like in a car - forget it. The few times I took it in a car - I had to buy external battery operated speakers to be able to hear what was being played on the DVD!
I spent alot of money on this and it is out of warranty - so I am out of luck. PLEASE..if you are looking for a portable DVD player - don't buy this piece of junk. Buy another brand.
I'll never ever buy anything with the name Audiovox on it again.

Good features, poor design !.......2002-03-26
This product although has good feature set, but is so badly put together that i have stopped using it. I bought this for the meetings and to record my thoughts for those times when its easier to speak than write (like 3 a.m. in the morning after a 16 hr. work day) - i must say its a big put off,for the keys are so multi-functional you don't even know if you are recording on the blank side anymore. There is a lot of "adjustment-clicks" that this piece makes (like changing sides, reverse, forward and then at other times for God knows what event...:) ...

A life saver.......2006-05-26
We bought two of these for the office after our hard drives crashed and use them to back up weekly. What a life saver, using Norton Ghost 9.0 in about 30 mins my entire computer is backed up and easily restored.
Other reviewers seem to be using these for regular drives and having problems but I love mine and would buy another if needed.
Customer Service.......2005-12-29
I bought the Rocket Pod to help store work data on. It was working great for awhile. The greatest thing since sliced bread. And then one day i come into work and it has stopped working. So I go to their website to try and get some technical support. To be able to get to technical support first you have to register the product. Okay not a big deal. Twenty minutes later, i'm still filling you a survey of my computer type and usage type and am no closer to technical support. Finally i get through all that, fill out my request for help and am told that i will get a response in three buisness days. I don't have time for them to take three days to get back to me, so i go looking for a phone number to call. The phone number is no longer in service. So before you buy this product, you might look for a company that has a little better customer service.
A great concept.......2004-04-26
Unlike some other reviewers I have had no problems with the drives. I have three of them stacked with the only complaint being the drives could be a little quieter. I use these drives in conjuction with ReplayTV and DVArchive and stream from the drives through a computer running XP to either of the TVs in my house. Movies, shows, and ballgames are all viewed with nary a glitch. I am hopeful that the DVD writer will be released soon, so I can add that to the stack. It really is a great concept to utilize only one USB or firewire port and half the number of power slots for up to five peripherals. It certainly has made expansion much easier for me.
Seems I am not the only one with bad luck........2004-04-15
Got the same problem as the former reviewer. It worked fine for about 3-4 months. Then without any specfic reason, it started to freeze up my XP Pro whenever I want to copy anything bigger than 100-200M from my harddrive. I ran the system defragment, re-installed XP, changed from 1394 to USB2. Problem was still there. Sent an e-mail to the company, no response for over 4 weeks.
Stay away from this!
FYI, my system:
HP pavilion ze 1230, AMD(m) 1400+, 512M, 20G. XP Pro SP1, with latest updates.

This drive has been intermittent from day one. Works for a while, then freezes Windows XP. Tried changing USB cables. Tried it on different computers. It is just plain garbage. Would not reccomend under any circumstances. Very unhappy customer.

Does The Job!.......2002-04-19
I'm a first time computer owner but very particular about electronic "Gear"(i'm an audiophile).I happen to be very happy with this Hub so far(one month old).It does the job it is intended to,I have a printer,scanner and my keyboard connected to it and it works just fine.Now I have 3 extra usb ports open for business. It is a bit light in weight but then most others are too.I'm an iMac user(running OSX) and if you are too then I would suggest you give this one a try.
Poor Performance & Customer Support.......2002-01-04
I purchased an Ultra Hub 4 from Circuit City, connected it to my PII and it worked for about 3 min. After the first three minutes the four green "hub" lights (indicating the hubs were working) did not remain lit on a continuous basis. I tried unplugging all cables sequentially but the hub never performed to my expectations. I wrote ADS Tech customer support and they never repsonded. I will return the Ultra Hub 4 and exchange for a better brand. I guess you get what you pay for . . .

A good buy with only a few downsides........2001-06-03
First of all, this is a VERY good looking unit. It's exactly how I hoped it would look after seeing the picture on the Amazon.com page. And it works fine, no problems encountered yet in a month of use, and with three different computers - a laptop with Win98, a desktop with WinMe, and a desktop win Win2000.
A few notes though: 1. There are 5 LEDs visible to the user. This is a good idea, but...... There's one red one, to show that it's powered on. Then four green ones, one for each port. The only problem is, as long as Windows is loaded, ALL the green lights are on, which does NOT reflect which ports are actually in use. So, they're really just for show. 2. The unit is very light, but the cords hanging off the back aren't. So, if you have the unit sitting within a couple inches of the back of your desk, rather than on the floor, the cords will put weight on the back of it and cause the front to not sit flat on the desk. A little unsightly. 3. I wish they put the AC-DC converter in the unit itself rather than have a large power adapter. Plus, since they unit is translucent, I can see that there is a bit of room to spare where they could have added an internal AC-DC converter. Plus, this would solve the weight problem (#2).
