This was flimsy and I got it as a gift. No one wanted it, and it was referred to as cheap. Then, even when I found someone to take it, it didn't even work. To pay shipping both ways wouldn't even make the refund worth while. It is going right into the garbage.

If I could give this pad a ZERO I would. Like many dance pads, the down arrow stoped working - in our case, it was after three months. Game Stop offers a 30 day warranty and will not do anything about fixing or replacing the pad and the manufacutrer is awful. It is unfortunate becasue the DDR is great fun for kids. We are researching other dance pads, but no luck as yet. DEFINITELY DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT !!

Not for competitive players.......2005-08-01

The Universal Dance Pad comes with two connectors attached: the standard PSX connector that works on the PS2, and an Xbox connector, allowing you to use the pad on either machine. Its six layers of foam provide a sturdy, cushioned support that is easier on the legs and feet than your standard $20 soft pads. The accuracy is very good; when I get a Perfect, I know I hit the arrow *exactly*.

The first thing I noticed about this pad is that it is longer and less wide than my previous pad. This isn't a big issue; nearly every pad on the market has a slightly different footprint, so it's just a matter of getting used to it. I was worried that the "glossy surface" would make it too slippery, but I played in bare feet and didn't have an issues. Like all other pads I've tried, it does have a tendency to creep during play, but the creep very slowly and there was no twisting, so this is not likely to be an issue, either.

There are several drawbacks to this pad:
* The raised panels under the arrows have a tendency to shift. The panel under my left arrow is nearly halfway into the center. This means that the raised panels do not work very well as a guide for hitting the arrows squarely.
* The arrows' sensors juts out into the center. This may be related to the shifting raised panels. This caused some arrows to register when I was merely resting my feet in the center, thereby lowering my score and increasing the amount of misses and "boos".
* The top surface--the most important part of the pad, in my opion--has wrinkles on it. I thought it was just because it's a new pad, but I tried to smooth them out and it's not happening. The two biggest wrinkles are in the centers of the left and down arrows. This causes me to misinterpret where the arrows lay, causing mishits and misses.

I was very disappointed in the free handheld controller included in the box. Instead of being plastic, it's basically a Barbie-sized soft pad, making it useless for anything more than Light play. If you are serious about wanting to use the handheld controller, I suggest modding it. You can do this with some heavy cardboard or a piece of wood some plastic wrap or other thin plastic. Lay the controller between the plastic and wood, and staple around the edges, taking care NOT to staple the controller. This will provide some firmness and hopefully make the pad actually usable.

As I mostly play DDR for exercise, this pad is suitable for my needs; however, I would not recommend this pad for those who are trying to get perfect runs. I haven't tried the Red Octane Ignition pad, so I cannot say how this pad compares to the Ignition.

This pad would be good for:
* Beginners who want a sturdier pad than the $20-range softpads
* Beginner & Light players
* Standard players who aren't so picky about scores
* Those who use DDR for workouts or just for fun
* Those who don't play DDR often

I would NOT recommend this pad if you:
* Play DDR often
* Play Heavy or Oni (Challenge)
* Play to get AAAs or to practice for the arcade game

Ignition 2.0 is simply the best you can get........2007-06-19

Hi, I have been playing DDR for over 6 years now. The RedOctane Ignition 2.0 Pad is, by far, the best foam pad you can get. The 3.0 and 1.0 pads are nowhere near as durable. The 2.0 pad is no longer made but I am selling one of mine here for less than retail, and its in perfect working condition! I've searched all over eBay and retail markets and no one is selling these anymore. They are nearly impossible to find, which is sad because they are simply THE best pads. 5 stars, hands down. I own two of them and I've never had a problem, on PS1, PS2, or XBOX. The pad is responsive, durable, and professional (feels like the arcade!). I love the RedOctane Ignition 2.0!

RedOctane Ignition 2.0 pad great -- 3.0 pad was terrible!.......2006-07-26

My two RedOctane Ignition 2.0 pads lasted at least a year each, under heavy use conditions. Even when children ripped the surface of one, a little piece of duct tape (don't laugh!) fixed it fine. It was the most responsive and accurate pad I owned, with the exception of a Cobalt Flux metal pad.

When one of my 2.0 pads finally wore out, I bought a new 3.0 pad. It's terrible! It lasted about 2 hours before dying. The foam button pads, NOT accessible via the zipper, moved around. Two of them even overlapped, so it was impossible to hit the up/forward button without hitting the left button.

I highly recommend AVOIDING the 3.0 pad until this problem is fixed.

My wife and I had a set of Ignition 2 pads for a little over a year. They were great, but after that long and a lot of use, they were wearing down.

We ordered a new set of ignition 2 pads from Amazon, and were surpised to receive ignition 3 pads. One might think that would be better, however, the ignition 3 pads are much more shoddily built.

We had these ignition 3.0 pads for about 3 weeks and they are just aweful in comparison to the 2.0 pads.

In the 3.0 version, Red Octane added a separate foam pad under each of the directional arrows. This pad is built in and "between" the sheets of material... not the zipperable area. The pads are shoddily put in place with some pretty sticky, but not effective stuff.

Unfortunately, within 3 weeks, the foam pads under each button have shifted. Since you can't open that section of the pad, there is no way to fix them. It is very annoying and uncomfortable to dance on.

If you can find "True" Ignition 2.0 pads, go for it... They were great. We loved them. The two pads we have lasted through over a year of pretty hardcore usage by two of us.

But if you order these and get Ignition 3.0 pads instead, send them back ASAP and order something else!!

Beware bait & switch!.......2006-02-14

We've been using the Ignition 2.0 pads at work for several months now, and they were used by the boss's family before that. The 2.0 pads work very well. However, version 3.0 is horrible, and that is what you will get from GameStop if you order the 2.0 pads. Plus, if you really want the 3.0 pads, don't pay $100 for them when they are available for $80 at the manufacturer's site or other local retailers. They told me today when I called to return them that they no longer carry the 2.0 pads.

I purchased four 3.0 pads and returned two of them because the raised arrows slipped to the middle of the pad and could not be adjusted. I realized then that if these two pads were terrible nearly out of the box, I better return the other two before my return period expires. Go with metal.

Quit working after 1 week.......2006-02-10

Our experience was not bad for about a week, at which time the pad started acting up. Basically, the pad buttons became stuck in the depressed mode. With ours, the music choices kept scrolling by without stopping. We could not get it to stop, so I contacted RedOctane to get a replacement. At first, things went well. They sent me a prepaid return slip and I packed up the pad and sent it back. After about 2 weeks, I queried RedOctane about the pad, and they replied that they never got the pad. After repeated attempts to locate the package (via the shipping company and customer service), their customer service stopped responding (they would not provide me with the exact address for returns). About this point I figured I was out 100 bucks along with a very dissappointed little girl. Do yourself a favor and buy a different mat (we went with a cheapo version that has been working great). Also, I would recommend never purchasing anything made by RedOctane. If something goes wrong with the product, you might as well throw it in the garbage versus dealing with their service dept.

A very bad product that might have been quite good.......2007-03-23

...unless they hadn't insisted on the "geared" telescopic part. It has some sort of swivel that is supposed to raise and lower it, but the handle is the cheapest possible plastic and it broke the very first time I used it. It's extremely annoying because overall it's not a bad tripod, but it really didn't need that bit of "hi-tech", and now I am unable to use the telescopic part at all...

Yes, it's lightweight and somewhat unstable, but I can live with that. The biggest problem is the bad engineering and the subpar materials...

I am very happy with this product. For an inexpensive tripod, it is steady and flexible. I have traveled with it as well as used it at "photo opportunity" events such as a wedding. I definitely think it is a good value for the cost.

You get what you pay for...........2006-11-16

I bought this based on other's reviews its features list and the reviews on several sites. I also had a nearly expired gift certificate balance to use up. If I'd paid cash for it I may have returned it. That being said for under $13 it's a serviceable tripod. The legs at full extension feel very flimsy and in even mild wind generate shake. There's no hook (though some site's descriptions claimed there was one) to add weight to counteract this but one could easily be devised. The 'fluid' pan head is anything but, at least in the vertical, there's spots where it 'grabs' and/or sticks. Horizontal panning is acceptable. The bubble level (not mentioned in the Amazon features list) is hard to view and use. The quick release head offers no knurling for finger tightening and is recessed in the shoe requiring a screwdriver or coin to tighten though it does attach securely to the camera and tripod. Overall I'm disappointed in the quality but for what I ended up paying for it I can't complain too loudly.
