Amazon.com Product Description

The Bose Lifestyle 50 listening system was designed to replace the appearance of a rack of conventional audio components with its palm-sized wireless Personal music center remote control, which is smaller than a videocassette. The system has other components, of course, but most are meant to be hidden from view. Tiny Jewel Cube speakers no bigger than a computer mouse replace room-filling loudspeaker cabinets, blending elegantly with any decor. A hideaway Acoustimass module (subwoofer) delivers full, deep bass for movies and music. The rest of the system--including AM/FM tuner, a full-function 6-CD changer, and the cables and connections for up to 4 rooms--can be easily tucked out of sight.

The Acoustimass bass module uses a technology that launches sound on a column of air rather than directly pushing air with a vibrating cone. It delivers full, natural bass sound without distortion--all from a compact enclosure, which can be located anywhere in your room (perhaps behind a curtain or under a coffee table). This means you'll enjoy the same quality of sound wherever you're standing or sitting.

The award-winning Jewel Cube speakers are the most visible components. The product of more than 40 different innovations and technologies, these speakers are about the size of a computer mouse, yet they're capable of filling a room with rich, lifelike sound. Their patented signal-processing technology automatically adjusts their tonal balance, ensuring your audio programs always will exhibit full, deep bass and clear, natural vocals at any listening level.

The touch-screen Personal music center, the heart of the system, communicates through radio frequencies, unlike infrared, sight-line dependent conventional remotes--so you don't have to aim it at other equipment for its commands to work. The remote's intelligent simplicity uses layered touch-screen menus to indicate and control functions such as radio tuning (with 50 station presets), track programming (up to 50 tracks in one sequence), volume adjustments, source selection, etc.

The Personal music center can control powered speakers positioned in different rooms (additional-room speakers not included). Or, with the purchase of additional Personal music centers, multiple users can simultaneously operate up to 4 different music sources--say, a CD player in the living room, a television set in a bedroom, an AM/FM player at the patio. For multiroom listening, Bose recommends its Virtually Invisible 191, 161, Acoustimass 5, or Acoustimass 3 speaker systems.

The Lifestyle 50 is also equipped with a digital signal processor called Videostage 5, which heightens surround-sound realism for both movie soundtracks and music recordings. The Videostage decoder processes analog formats--as well as 2- or even single-channel PCM and Dolby Digital bitstreams--and helps to deliver movie-theater excitement right in your home.

A feature called Digital Dynamic Range (DDR) compression automatically monitors and adjusts the system's level to let you to hear soft sounds, particularly dialogue, while preventing you from being overwhelmed by loud special effects. This is especially useful for late-night viewing, freeing you from having to constantly adjust the volume.

Dolby Digital decoding delivers up to 5.1 discrete audio channels (that is, 5 for the independent Jewel Cube speakers and 1 for rich bass from the Acoustimass, or subwoofer module) from DVD, digital TV, advanced cable boxes, and digital satellite receivers.

What's in the Box
Personal music center, a CD changer, a multiroom interface, an interface power pack, 5 Jewel Cube speakers, 5 speaker cables, 1 Acoustimass module (subwoofer), an AC power cord, 14 self-adhesive rubber feet (4 for the module and 5 pairs for the Jewel Cube speakers), an audio input cable, a CD changer cable, a stereo cable, 4 AAA batteries, an FM antenna, an AM loop antenna, an AM antenna base, a CD magazine, a Lifestyle system CD, and a test CD.

5 out of 5 stars Rare, impressive Technological Achievement.......2004-09-09

To be honest, I haven't yet owned a Bose Lifestyle 50 Home Theatre System but I had heard it in a demonstration in a Bose Store and I couldn't believe my ears then. What impresses me most about Bose technologies is that I haven't seen a speaker as tiny as the cube jewels featured in this system and similar Bose Lifestyle systems that can handle 100w (RMS) of amplification power. Speakers this size by other manufacturers can handle power as high as 45w (RMS) which is still below half the power-handling capabilities of Bose cube jewels. This difference alone demonstrates how superior Bose technologies are to the other speaker manufacturers'.

I know that the LS50 is discontinued right now by Bose but the new LS48 is now available and I will save for it. I'd rather spend all my fortune on one piece of Bose products than spending $150 on an inferior audio product.

Ok first of let me say this. If you are looking for a system that has THX go else where. But let me also add this, I work in the movie bizz, so I have a good bit of know how and what when it comes to things like this. THX, and you can ask a dealer for your self, is only trully heard when its set up by a pro, hense a home system that bosts THX, will not sound as good as it does in the theaters, this has more to do with room layout etc then the system.

Bose are masters when it comes to audio, short of having a theater built in your house, this is one of the best systems you can get for the money, it has all you need. Granted it could offer more but so could any system that you look at.

I have heard THX on this system and belive it or not it does work. Again not as well as in a theater but still its damn nice.

I recomend that if you are looking at this system that you go to your local high end audio store, and bring the following. a dvd that has DTS or the like encoded on it, 3 cds of differnt types of music, i recomend rock, classical, and techno. But the key is the difference.

Now sit down and listen to all of the things one at a time. Try this with other systems that you are looking at and I am sure you will find that the bose is one of the best out there.

Also look at onkyo and nad but you will have to by more compents and speakers to get what you get in this package. Adding to the overall cost.

Optical cables are a must, that or the best cables you can get. Also keep in mind that the rear speakers should be higher them the listners.

2 out of 5 stars Lifestyles of the Misinformed.......2002-10-21

What does the average consumer expect when they pay [this much money] for audio equipment? To be impressed, no less. Most people will be in awe when they listen to the Bose Lifestyle 50. They expect no less from a company like Bose. I, however, expected more.

My first disappointment is with the speakers. I didn't expect THX certification (a symbol of excellent audio quality), but the Lifestyle50 packs the same speakers from the cheapest Lifestyle setup. 2.5" paper drivers. Where does all the extra money go? The subwoofer is still passive instead of powered.

Then there's surround sound. It has Dolby Digital 5.1 (DD5.1) and Bose's proprietary Videostage5. DD5.1 is standard surround sound. It separates audio from front right, left, rear right, left, center, and subwoofer. The separation of channels provides a better movie-like experience and better sound quality. DD5.1 audio is the standard on DVDs. Videostage5 is odd in the sense that it divides the stereo signal into even more channels. The results are mixed, and often I wondered why it was there.

What it doesn't include is DTS5.1, or Digital Theater System. It is a step up from DD5.1. It provides much higher quality, but isn't available on all DVDs. When you find one that does you will enjoy it for every BOOM in the movie. It also doesn't include 6.1DTS, 7.1THX or any other features you would expect from a [$$] setup.

I lay in disappointment. I could get a receiver, speakers that at least had tweeters, and a subwoofer for one-fifth the price. Don't take my word for it. Go find a professional Bose Lifestyle 50 review with something positive to say about it. I'll go return mine.

4 out of 5 stars Good and the Bad.......2002-08-03

Bose products are usually expensive and some people argue that they can get a better system at maybe half the price. Now it depends on various parameters on what their evaluation is based on. For me, any music system is good which gives you the utmost pleasure in listening.
This Bose product comes with 5 pairs of Jewel cube speakers which are a little different then the regular speakers taht Bose offers with their speaker systems. They give you more clarity of sound - you can almost hear the fingers strumming on the guitar strings, the breathing of a singer and complete surround sound where it is available. You can easily find the difference when you play the Bose and another music system side by side and listen to the same music piece.
The set up is extremely simple. So if you hate tangling with wires and pushing in knobs and buttons for that perfect sound, then this system is for you. But if you are into graphic equalizers, and are addicted to lots of ports and want a receiver which will be the control center of your Home Theatre then this is not the system for you. The Bose system does allow you to connect your TV, DVD player and VCR through the system but that is about it. You will not find any additional ports in the system.
So for that price, I think you will not regret anything about this system - the most impressive of all is the size of the speakers and the range of sound that emits from them.
I am sure you are gonna love them.

An advanced three-point, 280-step Smart Autofocus system quickly and concisely identifies and focuses on the main subjects of your shot. Its 38-85mm (2.2x) power zoom lens lets you select the composition that you want. The 38mm is great for wide-angle shots, group scenes, or landscapes, while 85mm is ideal for intimate portraits and close-ups. 5 out of 5 stars The Best Camera That Canon Makes.......2006-03-24

This camera was and still is a A+ camera for me. I have had it since 3rd grade and it was a great starter camera. It is very easy to take pictures with. It also is extremely user friendly and you don't have to be a rocket scietist to use it!!! [...]

1 out of 5 stars don't bother with this camera.......2003-11-12

This camera is a piece of crap! I had a Nikon many years ago that I foolishly sold, for this more "Easy to use" Sure Shot. It should be called the Sure Sucks. Red eye everywhere even when the function is turned on, and the "auto focus" when shooting indoors in low light is terrible. This "hold button halfway down, then wait for the light, then shoot" garbage is ridiculous in today's technology. I am selling this as quickly as I can and am truly disappointed in the Canon name- which I trusted when I bought this camera.

4 out of 5 stars Great pictures with the right film.......2002-01-04

I bought this camera for my mom, I received a free roll of film Kodak Max 400. The pictures came out super, it was clear, the colours were rich, bright and very detailed.
I recommend the use of this film, its excellent, not only for this particular camera but any other camera.

I had a Ricoh 35mm for about 12 years (I loved that camera - I took it everywhere). It finally just broke. I needed a new camera - after many hours of research we decided to buy a canon. We bought the 85 and the 120. We took identical pictures with both cameras. The 85 had red eye problems even when the red-eye function was on. The 120 has similar but fewer red-eye problems. The color and crispness was beautiful. However, the red-eye simply ruins the photos. I never used the red-eye function on my Ricoh - and when reviewing my last few hundred photos - I noticed that I never had red-eye. I'm so dissapointed that Ricoh no longer sells the 35mm. I returned both cameras. I am now stuck with no camera. Do not buy this camera!
