Product Description
The Belkin 54g Wireless Networking products run at speeds of up to 54Mbps and operate on the same 2.4GHz frequency band as 802.11b Wi-Fi products. Backward-compatible with existing Wi-Fi-certified IEEE 802.11b products and with other products that display the 54g mark, the complete range of 54g Wireless Networking products from Belkin will be backward-compatible with current wireless 802.11b products already installed and will continue to be operational and interoperable with wireless 54g products being added to a home or business network. What sets the Belkin line of 54g Wireless Networking products apart from the competition is their included software programs. Designed to assist the end user in using these products, Belkin includes its Easy Install Wizard, which eliminates the need for users to deal with complicated information such as IP addresses and host names in order to connect the router to the Internet, and takes the guesswork out of setting up a router. Once the user inserts the CD into the computer's CD-ROM drive, the Easy Install Wizard takes over the job of determining what type of connection is being used and setting up the router to connect to the Internet Service Provider. Once the router setup is finished, the user has an option to set up more computers, or just begin surfing the InternetPRODUCT FEATURES: Joins wireless-equipped computers to an existing wired network; Provides a wide wireless range, requiring 75% less access points to cover the same wireless area as an 802.11a network; 64- and 128-bit WEP encryption; Offers Turbo mode.
Customer Reviews:
Thank you, reviewers (and Amazon).......2006-11-28
This isn't so much a review as a heartfelt thanks to the earlier reviewers who explained about having to put the router's MAC address in as bridging information (we had put in the address of the repeater instead). I had spent ages trying to figure out how to get the set-up to work and this is the only place I found the information I needed.
As regards the device, it seems to work fine but the set-up instructions for extending the network could be clearer!
We'll never know if it would have worked.......2006-06-24
Maybe this product is terrific at what it does, once configured. My experience with Belkin tech support, the documentation, and the firmware was very, very bad. After 24 hours of frustration, I finally returned the WAP. Then I spent an hour recovering my original configuration.
Note that if you are trying to use this device as a range extender, you will probably be interested in the Super Secret "range extender quick start guide" on the Belkin support web site. It's not included in the box.
My impression is that engineering designed a good product, tested it in very narrow circumstances, then told the tech writers what to write down. Clearly no one tested the documentation.
difficult to configure with other routers from the manual.......2006-05-12
as an extender with a different router brand, the product was difficult to configure without any instruction material for other brand routers. I finally configured the extender using the "wireless" MAC address of the router in the bridging section like the previous reviewer. It took me a while to figure out that I was using the wrong MAC address. I almost thought I would have to return the extender or sell it. I thought I would write this to save any of you some time. the extender is working great now.
F5D7130 works fine with Linksys WRT54G.......2006-03-05
Just got the Belkin F5D7130 and was about to send it to trash cause seemed to work *only* with Belkin routers...but then I found out how to make it work with my WRT54G.
As stated in the F5D7130 manual, you need to set up the F5D7130 MAC address into your Belkin router in order to use the F5D7130 like a range extender, since you cannot do this in a Linksys router, I tried the inverse...just loaded my Linksys MAC address into the "Wireless Bridge" configuration section of the F5D7130..and its working perfectly.
Finally, as stated in the Belkin manual, WAP is not supported in extender mode, but WEP works fine...so, better WEP than nothing...
Regards.
Setup for range mode to expand your wireless connection.......2006-02-23
Belkin know of this problem but will not post fix on web they want you to spent and hour on hold with a customer service agent reading the updated manual to you. The product is great but there instructions are the worst. Then again Linksys range has similar issue when setting them up. Another issue on there site they brag about WPA secuity it contain but don't tell you that wep is only support in range expander and not WPA.
Follow the documentation but just add these simple changes.
Setting wireless Range to access router
Open both web interface:
Belkin Router Web page router 192.168.2.1
Belkin Range expander Web page range 192.168.2.254
Reset to default
Connect range to router via Ethernet cable
Where it ask for the mac address:
Add both mac addresses from range to router yes both not one
Add both mac addresses from router to range yes both not one
Enable security on range first then on router WEP only does not support WPA in range mode.
Reset both.
Intenet now working.....
Note if you have ver 1000 add both mac address to each range and router
note if you have ver 2000 just add wlan range to each range and router.
It took me one hour on hold to find this out. Belkin knows this is an issue and they will not document it on there website.
Once it set it works 99% I will leave the one percent off just because nothing is perfect in this world.
Good luck.
Product Description

With a range up to 548.5 m, you can stay connected around the house or office at speeds up to 11Mbps (faster than a 10BaseT Ethernet connection).
Customer Reviews:
Great WAP for the price........2007-07-31
This was so easy to set up. I like the management software. I use MAC address filtering and it works great. I liked it so much I got one for my neighbor and would recommend it to others. I have used it with both cable and DSL. I have mine hooked up to a Cisco switch which is attached to a Trendnet router which is attached to my cable modem. I am very pleased with this product.
Broke within two weeks.......2005-12-11
It worked wonderfully for two weeks using it to browse the web and moderate downloading, but when I tried to transfer a 1GB file over my network, it developed a 23% packet loss that has persisted since. Presumably it overheated, but what a waste of $20 if I can't use my device without it breaking.
Belkin F5D6130 No web user nadme and password.......2005-10-28
Works great out of the box. Problem is you can't configure it using the web based interface. You need the wizard...that's a problem the manual is worthless. Everyone withing a 500 radius of you will enjoy their "free connection and bandwidth" and that sucks.
Works great, but make sure what you need it for........2005-05-25
I was trying to use it as a range extender, but it seems to be uncompatible with my SMC7004AWBR router. I was able to set it up fast as an Access Point, it immeadiately signed me up and started to exchange packets, but I wasn't able to reach my router so I had to take it off the network.
I also tried to make it work with my xbox to put my console online but wasn't able to do so either. So, if you are trying to use it to turn a wired network into wireless this is it, this is what you need, otherwise I hope you can succeed in what I couldn't.
Previous review is bogus.......2004-06-17
The guy who said "Not comaptible with dynamic IP address modems" is wrong. I spoke with a tech who told me that it will work fine as long as you disable the DHCP on it's setup page.

Product Description
Transfer data between a Bluetooth-enabled computer or PDA and computers connected to the LAN via the AP, or simply gain Internet access through the connected LAN. Send a print job to USB printers via Bluetooth by connecting your USB printer to your AP. The built-in print server also allows you to send print jobs from computers connected to the LAN to USB printers connected to the AP. The AP includes a Class 1 Bluetooth radio-the most powerful radio available. It operates at up to 723 Kbps within a 100-meter range and supports up to seven users simultaneously. The easy-to-use web browser interface makes managing your AP simpler than ever. By using DHCP, your AP obtains an IP address automatically when connected to the network. Connections to all Bluetooth wireless devices are secure through 128-bit encryption, and user authentication.

Problems but authentication workarounds.......2006-04-17
This unit does do the job but its set-up took a day of experimenting with Windows services before LAN and printer access was established. However, the real problem is when you set an authentication password on the web interface - once you reboot your access to Web Manager is gone forever - no hardware reboot! I thought I was going mad as my trusted administrator password and 100 variations failed. Finally I discovered through these reviews that the password set is not always properly recorded. However, there is a back route using telnet - put in your password at the ADMIN password prompt and you are given access the router internals via a unix command line interface. You need the following two commands to disable your password for Web Manager:
Belkin-F8T030>setpb authreq off
Belkin-F8T030>reboot
You will be disconnected as the reboot actualises but then you'll find you again have access to the Web Manager on http://1.2.3.4.
I only wish Belkin support could publish this on their support site as a FAQ but then then is more chance that Narnia is reality!
It works for me.......2005-08-26
I actually liked this unit. I have a three story 2200 square foot home and I can access the internet/printer from anywhere in my house. I have to agree with the rest of the reviews dealing with the tech support (hope you do not need them). Luckily, the setup was a snap and my printer was easy to get working. If you are using an all in wonder printer (scan, print, fax) I would not suggest hooking it up to this print server. It works well with just a junk generic inkjet though. I currently interface with it using a palm tungsten t5, but have heard that other PDA's do not play as well.
Horrible Range! Don't buy! You'll be sorry! I was!.......2004-12-29
The Belkin F8T030 has terrible range. It only worked at full speed when I held my Palm Zire 72 within 8 inches of the unit! It barely moved data at 5 feet and dropped out completely over 10 feet away.
I Returned it and bought an Anycom AP-2002 bluetooth access point. Both are supposed to be Class 1 radios but the Anycom is way better! It has 2 to 3 times the range of the Belkin. If you screw up the settings you can do a full factory reset with out having to establish a connection first. With the Belkin, you have to be able to connect to it to reset it.
Even though the Anycom is better, Bluetooth still has quite a limited range. The Anycom is Class 1, but the Palm is not, and it is the limiting factor. When they say 300 feet, that is only if both ends are a Class 1 radio. When they say 30 feet for a Palm device, you can still connect at 30 feet, but the throughput is very very slow.
Practical distances with the Anycom seem to be around 10 feet and that is still slower than when you are right next to the access point.
I read some of the other negative reviews on the Belkin and thought it cant be that bad, but it was! Stay away, really!
This product is not ready for public sale.......2004-12-16
The tech support was prompt and knowledgeable. The unit has good range which seems to be limitied more by the class of the PDA that is trying to acess it.
HOWEVER this product has a VERY serious design deficiency that makes it UNSUITABLE FOR USE at any price!!!! Belkin tech support has confirmed that there is no way to reset the unit to the original factory settings if you can not acess it via the built in web manager. Belkin tech support also confirmed that there is also a flaw in the unit that will cause some user passwords to not be accepted. Once this happens, this will essentially require returning the unit for complete replacement. I know of no other networking product that has such a serious design flaw (all other networking devices I am aware of have at least a reset button somewhere or a "power on" sequence to handle these inevitable situations). It also makes the unit unusable for any scenario where if you make a change to the settings, you can not afford to be without it for the time to swap it out.
An obvious problem for you, me and Amazon here!
one tiny notch above junk.......2004-08-04
The F8T030 is one tiny notch above junk. I got it working as a wireless laptop-to-printer cable, but no thanks to the instructions, as it doesn't work at all if they are followed. The network access point function and the web manager won't activate without a pairing PIN, the instructions say nothing about pairing, no reasonable guess works, and there is no hardware reset or bypass. Phone service doesn't connect to a person; it asks you to leave a voice message and promises to get back within 48 hours; it has been 5 days. Buy ANYTHING else!

Customer Reviews:
Ok, I guess..........2007-09-15
I bought this router about a year ago. It worked fine for about 8 months. It did what I expected it to do and I had no complaints. Then a few months ago, my internet connection started getting flaky. I'd recently moved and thought it was just a bad internet connection in my new location. I'd get lag in games when I'd never gotten lag before, and even web pages took a frustratingly long time to load (this on high speed cable connection). Last week, I lost my internet connection three times, for about 30-45 minutes each. The signal was fine from the modem, but I just wasn't getting a connection. I thought maybe it was unannounced ISP maintenance. Then, four days ago, I suddenly had no more internet and no more happy lights from my router. The thing just died on me.
I replaced it with the D-Link DIR-655 Extreme N Wireless Router. I'm extremely happy with it and no longer have lag in games, my web pages load instantly, and I can stream videos no problem. Guess my internet connection was fine after all!
If it works, great... if it doesn't, tough luck.......2007-08-24
The initial setup took me less than 5 minutes and I didn't have a single problem. The connectivity was excellent, the speed was better than I expected to get from a wireless device. Then it started acting up: it would drop the connection unexpectedly and no amount of fiddling with it would fix it. I'm on my third of these occurances right now. I somehow managed to fix the previous two (one of which was right after upgrading the firmware), but this time I just can't seem to find the magic combination of adapter resets and computer restarts that will get it connected again. I'm just going to find some other adapter that's easier to fix. Still, I'm giving it 4 stars because it works very well 99% of the time.
Update: whaddiya know, changing my network password fixed the problem and allowed me to connect again!
To clarify my earlier review, I would definitely recommend this unit to anyone whose wireless network uses no or WEP encryption. If worse comes to worst, you can simply reset the unit to factory specs, run the setup program again and be back up and running in a few minutes. If you have WPA encryption on your network, however, I would NOT recommend this product unless you know how to change your computer's TCP/IP settings. The setup program doesn't support WPA encryption, so you have to access the unit's settings through internet explorer... which, to say the least, is much more difficult.
Great adapter.......2006-09-25
Purchased one to replace a Linksys USB adapter that was causing problems. This is a great device. It worked so well I've replaced other Linksys PCI adapters that were okay, but not great. I now have 3 of the Belkins running and haven't heard a peep from them since.
Signal stregth is much better that the Linksys PCI adapters could provide, even with high-gain antennas.
Be sure to upgrade the firmware for WPA and improved reliability.
Good Product.......2006-08-30
I used this to connect an aging G3 Mac to my wireless network at home. Plug and play and has worked fine with no issues since. Seems like a good way to add wireless to any machine with an ethernet port.
Wireless Link Access Extension.......2006-08-25
Just as advertised. No configuration, plug and go. Only issue I've had, periodically during periods of non-use, device will need to be reset to continue. ie. when I come in Monday from a weekend. However, meets expectation and happy.
