Exceptional Telephone.......2005-03-16

This is an exceptional 5.8 GHz cordless telephone. The sound quality, range, speakerphone on handsets, caller id and simplicity of use are all excellent. Having the 2 telephones means you will always have a telephone charged and ready to use when needed. The battery and standby capability both work very well. The design is both clean and aesthetically pleasing.

The only negative that I will assign to this cordless telephone is that the buttons are slightly on the small side.

If you are looking solely for a two telephone 5.8GHz system that is easy to use and secure, this is the one.

A Cut Above.......2004-09-13

First, ignore the review written by "An Electronics Fan" because they discussed an answering machine in the review, and this item does NOT have an answering machine.

These phones operate perfectly. The DSS offers a phone with no interference or distortion of voices. Very clear reception, good range, and you can store 100 numbers in each headset, which is certainly sufficient for most at home purchasers. The instructions are reasonably simple and the price is not high when you consider that you have 2 phones for the price of 1. I highly recommend this item for anyone wanting to take "the next step up" with their cordless phone.

Absolutely supurb sound quality in both handsets; Caller ID + Call Waiting ID + Handset speakerphones + distinctive ringing + many other great features.

The only disappointment was the range of my phones was only about 80 feet from the base.

In spite of the range problem, I love these phones.

Good pair for a good price........2004-05-08

Our 2.4 system (vtech) was approaching unusable due to static. I finally decided to give the 5.8 phones a try. The phones work great. Clear as a bell. The other reviews capture the qualities of these phones.

My only issues ...
There is no battery indicator. Only the battery low beep, when the battery is about to die. I've grown accustomed to some type of indicator to show me the current status.

The caller id doesn't allow for a number 1 to be added to a number that you want to return a call to. In our area, we need to dial a 1+area code to dial the next door neighbor.

The speakerphone has too much static, but I don't use that feature often. It certainly doesn't sound as good as the handset.

The base could have been designed a bit better to stand vertical. Again, not a big deal.

We can't seem to get into the habit of hitting End to finish a call. Everyone (family, friends and neighbors) taps the large Talk button again when they are done with a call and set the phone down. About a minute later you hear the sound of a phone off the hook.

Having said all that, we really like the phones.

I receive this phone as a gift, and we don't use it anymore........2004-03-07

My parents purchased this phone for us for Christmas last year. My dad is an electronics king, and loves to research to find the "best" of everything. Well, he was misled on this phone. There was always background noise, we could never hear the people we were talking to, and they could never hear us well.
Also, the answering machine wouldn't stop playing unless we answered this phone. If we picked up any of the others in the house, it would keep playing.

We finally just bought the cheaper 2.4 model ourselves and unplugged this phone and answering machine. Now it just sits here and looks pretty for when the parents come over. I definitely don't recommend it. I feel bad that they paid so much for it and it turned out to be such a bad system.

Can't navigate DVD's without remote.......2007-08-07

I have had this for a while and gotten some good use out of it. However, once the remote died (It would cost $75 to replace) I have been unable to watch DVD's satisfactorily. There are buttons on the unit for going forward and back a scene, but no menu button and no buttons that let you navigate around menus (also no fast forward or rewind buttons). I tried to watch TV collections, but with some of them it is now impossible to view anything but the first show. If not for this issue, I would probably give the item four stars because of its versatility.

Not happy because of.........2007-03-19

I was happy when I bought this, as this is very compact and useful to play both casette and dvd. But sooner, the casette player stopped working if I hookup the LCD monitor (I am thinking that this is because of the power input is not sufficient to play both LCD monitor as well as Casette). However, I can play DVD and view it in the LCD monitor.

If I do not use the attached LCD monitor, but redirect the output to a regular TV, then Casette works with out any problem.

When I contacted Audiovox (at probably 13th or 14th month), they told it is not covered under warranty so the flat price is around 100 dollars (did not remember exact amount), plus shipping charges.

So, did not opt to repair it and kept quiet.

mobile video.......2006-11-07

this the second one I bought. The first one came with an inoperable vcp (VCR without ability to record). I sent it back and got a refund. I bought the second one and the dvd did not "read' the dvds. This time I sent it back to Audiovox and paid the 14.00 for shipping. They paid for the return shipping and it has been working well since that time.
Overall it is good for us to have both formats. The unit comes with great carrying bags and protective wrap for the screen. You have many options on how to atach it in your vehicle.

Disappointed us..........2006-10-25

I have owned this product for about a year now. I also purchased the extra screen so each of my children would have their own to view. Unfortunately, I can't recommend this product. Within about 2 months, the second screen quit working. Within approximately 4 months the DVD player stopped altogether. Now we're stuck with only the VHS portion of the player and one screen. It's better than nothing, but for what we spent on both items, it should have held up longer. And we've been very gentle with them too. Our previous vehicle had a dealership-installed system in it and I was hoping to get the same effect with this in our new SUV. Sorry to say, I think we should have opted for the installed system. We'll know for next time. :/

Serious quality issue.......2006-01-06

We bought it for long driving trips but on the first trip out, the unit stopped working after 2-3 hours. No signal connecting the screen and the unit. Had to return it (after driving it all the way to southern Cal from bay area and then back). Couldn't figure out what the problem was. Screen was ok because it powered up.

Very compact (although it weighs a lot -- help with the bouncing of the road.)

Wish someone would update the unit. Sure is nice for the kids.
