Considerably pricier than other such notebook coolers, but still a great value. In less than two years time I went through three of the Targus Tornado Chillpads, all breaking. This one is much sturdier, and though I've used it less than a month I'm fairly confident that it'll last significantly longer. The aluminum is great at dispersing heat. The switch for high and low fan speed is great for when you want lower noise or better cooling. Pass-through USB is also a nice feature. Also, the cord fits inside the unit. As many may have said before, It'd be a bit better if the fans were placed a bit further up the pad, but I don't know how possible that is in the design scheme.

This unit stacks up very nicely against the competition in the laptop cooler market. There are improvements to be made, but overall this is a solid product.
Notebook cooling has become essential with today's hot-running processors and video cards. It can potentially improve a computer's performance and useful life.
This pad is made from better plastic than most. It has a nice shape, though it may be small for a 17 inch laptop.
Pros
- The nice alluminum top spreads head and is durable
- The USB cable is pass through and has an extra port for other USB devices
- The cable is short and there is a small compartment to tuck it away under the cooler after use.
- The fans run quietly relative to other units
- The rubber feet are solid and provide nice stability
Cons
- The 2 fan heads are poorly positioned in the center of the pad; The grated top makes it appear like air flow is being pushed through the entire top. It's more obvious on the pearl version. Antec USB-Powered Notebook Cooler (Pearl)

- The list price of $50 seems unreasonable
The Antec notebook cooler has a more durable aluminum top, ergonomic shape, and more quiet design than the competition.

no more laptop shut downs.......2007-08-29
This powerful notebook cooler has functioned superbly. My laptop had a tendency to get very hot, and the notebook pad I had been using wasn't assisting. As a result, my laptop kept shutting down, of its own accord. I feared I needed to buy a new laptop, but tried this cooler notepad as a final resort, having learned that overheating could be the cause (and that my particular laptop did have a tendency to run very hot). This coolpad has worked brilliantly, with its 2 usb-powered 2-speed fans, there are no cords, and it really pulls the heat away from laptop and out to the side. The size of it is also great, as it's not too small to accommodate my rather large-based hp. No more heat, no more shut downs, and no more lost data. Super! I HIGHLY recommend this product. Good but a little small.......2007-08-24
I use this cooler for my Toshiba 12" Satellite. It works well to keep the laptop cooler, and runs pretty quiet. It would have been better as a rectangular shape so the whole laptop fits on it. If you have a laptop bigger than 12", I suggest you look for a different product.

I am extremely pleased with the ANtec USB cooler for my laptop computer. It really does keep it cool and I am so glad I bought it. For the price it is a real bargain. I highly recommend it.

I really shopped around. For my iBook G4 this has proven a good option for the price. It beats the Targus hands down, if one needs a fan only for one's desk--this cannot function on one's lap. It fits my 12" iBook very nicely, and I would imagine it is fine for 14". I can only guess larger widescreen laptop users might wish to comparison shop, though this may still be a live option. It angles the computer nicely, i.e. not too radically. It holds sturdily in place. The fan draws air from behind the computer under it. One result is a breeze out of the right side which may hit your mouse hand. I did find that proping up the front of my computer was important so that the breeze could fully effect where my laptop most needs it--yes with some breeze coming towards you at the high setting. This is the only limitation to the unique design--reversing fan direction might have been better. No fan keeps a laptop ice-cold, but this one does as much as one can imagine is possible without some extreme design. The low fan setting is quite effective and gently audible. The high setting is very audible, but is not an offensive sound--and I am quite sensitive to such things. The location of the setting switch is not entirely convenient--directly in the back, but it comes with the design. The USB jack has a socket built into it, so one may plug a second device into the same port the fan plugs into--a fantastic feature for little two USB notebooks. The fan is indeed portable and small enough to not effect desk space (it does not extend back any further than the top of the screen due to the latter's being angled). It has a blacklight-style indicator light which creates some glow behind the computer at night. A silly touch to which one can perhaps acclimate. An on-off switch would have been nice too.

The best notebook cooler I have used.......2007-06-10
I have used many different notebook coolers. None of them were as good as this one is. Not only does it tilt the back of the laptop up slightly, it also has two speeds to keep your notebook running cool all the time. I had one for my Dell laptop. When I noticed my wife's laptop running warm, I bought one for hers too.
Do your laptop a favor and get one of these notebook coolers. If I could, I would have given this 4.5 stars is because the little gripper things fall off easy. It is not a huge problem.
Exactly What My Laptop Needed.......2007-03-08
I have a pretty small laptop, which means that there is not much room for dissipation of heat by airflow. It was getting really hot and I had to prop up the back of the laptop with a thick book to keep it from overheating.
The Antec cooler is a miracle. It keeps my laptop significantly cooler. Even under full load it never gets too hot to touch. You can't hear the cooler at all at the slow setting since it is behind the laptop. I keep it on this setting because it provides enough airflow. If your laptop is very hot, use the high setting which is barely audible. My laptop fan is much louder than the Antec cooler could ever be. I would recommend this to anyone that needs a good cooler.

KEEPS THINGS COOL - BUT NOT FOR LONG.......2007-09-23
This laptop heat shield does work - for a while. However, if you plan on using your laptop for more than say 45 minutes then this product will not adequately insulate you from the increasing heat of your machine. I even used 2 pads stacked on top of each other and the majority of heat still transferred. I wish the laptop makers could find a way to make their machines run cooler.

Such a simple thing but what a great way to keep from frying your legs with your laptop. In the winter, I have used mine as a heat source, but in the summer, it can really be a challenge. This does the trick and look ma, NO BATTERIES!

I just got the XPAD for my MacBook Pro, which can heat up unbearably. While the XPAD reduces the heat considerably, its sharp edges are uncomfortable on the lap, thus I am returning it. If the XPAD got the same rounded edges as the MacBook, it would be the perfect product.

A good product at a reasnoble price. Simply put, it does its job. It has two modes for cooling, the lower seems adequate for my notebook computer. The high setting is a bit too loud for my taste. The hardware design is nice and I always enjoy devices powered by USB.

I love this product. I have a tiny little dell latitude x1, and though it doesn't run as hot as some of the machines I've had, my hands still get uncomfortably warm after several hours of working. This product completely solved that problem. two drawbacks - 1) it is big enough that I don't take it everywhere with me, which I would like to do, and 2) I think the airflow could be improved by elevating the computer a bit.[...]
And that improved the air flow considerably. I believe that this was necessary to cool my larger laptop.
One final note about this product - I really like how it looks. Superficial, I know, but it is pretty and who doesn't want their office to look nice.
Great for Dish Network DVR.......2006-11-03
I purchased this to keep my Dish Network DVR cooler. Before, it averaged ~110 degrees, and after in the mid 90's. When the DVR ran hot, the DVR fan kicks off and on and is pretty loud. 100% happy with the cooler for use with DVR's.
I got a second one to use for laptops. It doesn't add much to the wire tray I used to keep a 3/4 inch airspace under the laptop. The usb cable is a bit cheap. I wish the laptop turned off the power to the USB when it is off, so I end up connecting/disconnecting the cable a lot.

I just got this cooler, and since I had been running my notebook for 5 days straight, I plugged it in as soon as I got it. Simply put, VERY quick cooling, light, and quiet. There are no warm spots across the board. I do admit the power plug on the cooler does come off a bit too easily, but I don't carry the cooler around anyways, and I'm carrying my notebook around my house. Well designed and fits perfectly with my 13-inch notebook. When mounted, it will give you an elevation of just uder an inch, and produces adequate airflow underneath the notebook. Plus, it has a neat little blue LED light on the fan speed selection switch. I will point out that my notebook is relatively thin, thus making the cooler work better, so if your notebook ranges to about 1 inch thick, this is definately your choice.
Flimsy Cable.......2006-09-08
The Antec cooler itself is very well made and did an adequate job of cooling my Centrino. BUT, the USB cable is very shabby and very short; and when I disconnected the USB cable from notebook, the cable fell apart. I paid $40 for this product and expected way more considering Antec makes very good PC cases.

Great Home Theater System.......2004-08-10
I finally took the plunge and bought a home theater speaker system - and what a great plunge it was. These speakers are not only very, very resonably priced but are super sounding speakers too. I never thought I could get this type of sound from a speaker system that sold for under $200.00. My big concern was how they would work with music. My concern vanished with the first song on the first CD that I played(Brothers In Arms by Dire Straits). WOW! The home theater reproduction was just as impressive, beginning with the THX intro in Last of the Mohicans and every part of the dvd thereafter. My only regret is that I waited so long before I made this decission. If you are looking for great home theater and CD music sound at a very fair price, please take a look at the Cerwin Vega AVS 5.1. - I think that you will be most pleased that you did.
Absolutely wonderful sound! Here's how to tweak the sub..........2004-01-19
The AVS-5.1 is a superior performing set of home theater speakers. The center and satellite speakers produce crisp and wholesome sound with a lot of detail. The subwoofer, once the default setting is changed, produces a wonderful bass which is rich and mellow at even low volumes. At high volumes it continues its mellowness and never jars. Taken as a full set, the Cerwin Vega AVS-5.1 set produce amazingly good quality sound, comparable to the sound produced by high end speakers.
And what a good looking set of speakers!
Some people might take issue with an internal setting in the subwoofer. The sub does not kick in unless it receives a minimum volume signal. This can be annoying when you want to watch Dolby Digital/DTS movies at night. You would have to wake up your neighbors in order to turn on the sub.
Here's how to change the internal setting of the subwoofer:
You need to disconnect the amplifier from the sub and set the jumper from "auto" to "on". The "auto" mode does not let the sub kick in unless it receives a minimum volume signal. In my opinion, the this very easy to do and should not take more than a few minutes.
If you are squeamish about opening up and messing with the sub, then don't follow the procedure. Simply take a printout of this review to your nearest electronics service outlet. I don't recommend going the official customer support route with Cerwin Vega unless you want to deal with the hassles.
Warning - disconnect the power cable first! Remove the peripheral screws and carefully separate the amp from the unit. Carefully inspect the green circuit board until you locate the jumper - which clearly indicates "On", "Auto" and "Off" in white letters. Simply remove the jumper from the "Auto" position and insert in into the "On" position. Double check that the amp is still connected to the sub's speaker. Thats all you need to do. Now screw the amp back on, reconnect the power supply, turn on the sub and enjoy!
In conclusion, I am highly satisfied with this speaker set. I could not find a better 5.1 set for under $500.
Sounds great - service is not so good.......2003-12-16
I purchased these speakers a couple months ago. Unfortunately it was a clearance sale so I could not return them. When they are working they sound great.
I have had trouble with the sub. It requires a very high volume to kick in - then works at any volume as it should. When i called C-V they said it is a common problem and is very easy to fix - two capacitors or something. They referred me to their local service guys who 'fixed' it - but the problem still remains. I went back to C-V and they said not a problem - we'll send you a new amp asap. That was a month ago and my system is still in shambles waiting for the new amp.
So, when the sub is working - the system really does sound great. Unfortunately you have to blast the system to get the woofer to kick in and it may go to sleep again if the movie has 20 minutes without a strong bass signal.
Reccomendation: carefully test them when you get them home and make sure there are more in stock before you take one home.
