Out of the box, the unit's flattened look first catches your attention: 5.7 inches high when laying flat (it can also be used in an upright position, which brings its height to 9.25 inches) and weighing in at a mere 4.8 pounds, this unit is a suitable companion for travel and activities such as a long road trip, a picnic in the park, or simply a trip between the kitchen and the living room. The CD player features programming options that allow you to make your own track arrangements, repeat modes that let you repeat a track, a program of tracks or an entire disc, and a handy little feature called CD intro scan, which lets you sample the first few seconds of each track on a compact disc. The audio components are what one would expect from a unit in this price range. A 1-bit digital-to-analog converter improves small signal linearity to provide pure reproduction of the original sound recorded on a CD, and 8x oversampling combines phase linearity with suppression of digital noise, resulting in better and more natural sound and imaging. However, despite these features, the unit falls short in overall sound quality in the areas of bass performance (no bass boost) and speaker quality. Another weak point we discovered comes while listening at low levels--a whining can be heard from the CD mechanism.

Overall, we found the Audiovox CE216 to be a user-friendly, easy-to-live-with unit that provides all the basics necessary for audio enjoyment. I received the above-mentioned radio about 5-7 days after I ordered it. ...I am very happy with it. The sound is decent. I am using it for a small den room. Good purchase for a economical boombox that is not big and shaped differently. It lays down on its side.

I ordered this because of the "flat panel" design. Little did I know that you have to lay it flat to operate it. Defeats the purpose! Then, to add insult to injury, the sound that emerged from the speakers was tinny ... sounded like a cheap kid's MONO cassette player ... not a stereo boom box! The controls are user-UNfriendly, too. ...

I loved this cd player (except for the shape) for about 5 months. I got it for Christmas from my grandma, then, in May i was taking it out of the car and the cd cover comes right off, i was almost in tears i loved it so much. Now, the cd player doesn't work and its just sitting there. I think the top of the cd player part was filmsy from the beginning and then getting pulled from the car just pulled it right off. I still have to get a new one. Other than the filmsy lid, the cd player is great.

I send my prayers to all those whose lost someone in the attack on the Pentagon and the Twin Towers.

It has a bad shape but it's different from the standard and very plain and boring rectangle of past stereos. The upside of it all is that you can take it almost anywhere but it get's dirty very fast. The best feartures of this product is that you can play cd's and cassette too! The great part of this machine is that if you didn't bring any cd's or cassette you can listen to the am/fm radio. It's a great little machine and made by a good name brand(vox or AudioVox who also make amps for guitars and bass) And the price is the best thing about it cause I don't have that much money to spend, so it's a real money saver!

I bought the +v version which also offers a wireless connection to a printer. This device provided one hundred percent functionality right out of the box. Excellent support at the web site for connection to the internet and a printer. Works with a small internet provider: shentel.net.

The only downside: the web accelerator offered free by my ISP does not work. The accelerator interpets the wifi connection to the WiFlyer as having broadband width and thus no need of a dialup accelerator. I'm just starting to trouble shoot this. Worst case: I may have to buy the accelerator from WiFlyer.

The Wiflyer wireless works great! Had to call to get some help at
first as I'm on AOL which always has a complication it seems. After that
got figured out...have had no problems.

UPDATE: My WiFlyer works again after a 'Hard Reset'.......2007-01-16

I bought this in early November of 2005 before a trip I took in December. I only needed to use it once with an Earthlink dial-up account. Worked fine. Once. After that, it remained in safe storage away from heat, away from cold, away from the sun, away from handling. In fact, it was stored safely in my laptop travel case, which was stored safely in a closet. No one could have bothered it, since I live alone. I did not need to use again until 6 weeks ago. When I got the Wiflyer out and plugged it in ... NO wireless signal. None. Kaput. My laptop connected just fine to other wireless, just not the Wiflyer because there was NO SIGNAL AT ALL, so there was NOTHING TO CONNECT TO. The little wireless LED in the middle front of the unit does not come on. Of course, the unit is no longer under warranty, so that's the end of that.

Honestly, I think the product is just not well made. The concept was excellent, and yours may work for you for a while, just as mine did. But I wouldn't expect this to last for very long if used frequently. Perhaps some sort of minor jostling caused the unit to fail? I'll never know. And I sure won't buy another one.

***** UPDATE *****

I emailed techsupport at [...] about my difficulty with the wireless LED staying off and no wireless signal being broadcast. I was informed that I could return the WiFlyer to its factory default settings using the following procedure to initiate a "Hard Reset":

(1) Unplug the power connection from the rear of the WiFlyer, then

(2) Hold down the top button (with the lightning bolt), then

(3) Continue holding this lightning-bolt button and

(4) Plug power back into the WiFlyer, and then

(5) Continue holding the button down while the WiFlyer cycles its 5 LED lights on top from right to left, then all LEDs will go solid on. There will then be three beeps, and then the unit will cycle through the LED lights again, and WHEN THE MIDDLE LIGHT (the wireless LED) COMES ON, RELEASE THE LIGHTNING-BOLT BUTTON.

That's it. It brought my WiFlyer back to life and it functions normally again.

I did notice that when the unit is used to connect my laptop via wireless to my broadband modem that I did not see the higher internet download speeds that I see when connected directly to the cable modem via ethernet. I believe this is probably just a limitation of 802.11b in operation.

After hooking up WiFi for a DSL network, I expected the WiFlyer set-up to take a while. But when I opened the box, I saw that the quick start-up intructions were easy to follow. I plugged everything in as described and went back to the instructions to see how to open or launch a connection. When I looked back at the unit, it was already showing a connection on the indicator lights. Still skeptical about dialing up the ISP, I launched Internet Explorer. Instead of going to my home page, it went to a WiFlyer screen asking for the typical dial-up info, such as ISP phone number, user name and password. Once it connected, my home page displayed. On subsequent launches, the WiFlyer screen remembered (by cookie) the phone number and user name. There can't possibly be a better way to provide WiFi for a dial-up connection.

Jokebox Recorder.......2003-04-13

This is a piece of junk. I got it to record my band sessions. I leave it charging all week, and actually plug it in during our sessions, and it only works half the time. Right now I have it plugged in, and I can't get it to turn on. It might just be my unit, but this thing is pretty worthless. I looked on the Archos site, and I don't think there's much I can do about it.

Even if it is just my defective unit, the interface is pretty clunky. I can't imagine trying to navigate 15 G's and find a specific song. You'd be there all day. However, if it just worked it would be perfect for what I want to do.

Hours and Hours of Music.......2003-02-02

This is a great MP3 Player. I've loaded it up with hours of music plus hours and hours of old Bob and Ray recordings. The best feature is the recorder. I can plug the Archos into my stereo thru the tape monitor and record my old LPs and tapes without having to hook everything up to the computer.

All around good player.......2003-08-21

i got this player for Christmas. The setup was fairly easy. I like the fact that i can use it was a back-up hard drive too. The Archos frimware is very iffy so i reconmend getting the rockbox one. It is better and has different fonts and even includes games like tetris. THis made the player better. It helps to have USB2.0 to help with faster tranfers. Transfers are easy becuase it shows up as another hard drive so it is a drag and drop job. Good player

More than just an MP3 box..........2003-05-10

I've had my Jukebox Recorder 15 for about six months now, been getting used to 'living with it', so to speak. In that time, I've gotten VERY accustomed with using it. Yes, like anything with a great deal of complexity in a simple package, there's a bit of a learning curve. But once you figure out how to 'handshake' with this box (and it doesn't take long), you find that it's quite intuitive, and navigating through its functions is a breeze.

Audio quality? Excellent, both on record and playback. The unit can RECORD (which is VERY nice) via a line-level analog or digital input, which makes this a great device for hooking to a line-level output from a stereo to transfer pesky non-digital sources such as vinyl or tape. It can handle qualities up to 320kbps in constant or variable bit rates. Playback audio is excellent and rather powerful for a portable device.

The internal battery is very convenient, IMHO...all it takes is a few hours of charging and you can get some 10 or so hours of playback time. No running out to drop some dough on more batteries needed, nope.

BUT...that's not all, folks. The nice thing here is that this also can function as a removeable drive, with USB transfer capabilities. So you can cram some MP3s in there, some large project, etc etc...and take more than just music with you. This'll be convenient for anyone who has to transport large files, such as multitrack session files for music types, or big graphics files for artists, or some specifically-needed piece of software that needs to move around, etc etc. Use your imagination, you'll find uses.

Plus, of course, this works with anything...sure, you can make an iPod work with a Windows box, but it's not quite so 'happy'. So with this being more 'generic', it seems to help with ease of use/connectability issues for different platforms. Just find a USB port and get busy.

The only flaws here lie in the headphones. They're pretty uncomfortable. But this is easy enough to remedy and, in fact, WORTH remediation by getting a much better set of 'cans' and using those with the Jukebox Recorder 15. You can appreciate the excellent quality of audio you'll get out of a well-encoded MP3 with this box that way.

I'm planning to take mine into some studio sessions I have coming up next month (June 2003) so that I can convert and 'dump' various mixes of tracks in MP3 format to the box so that they can be reviewed outside the studio, at leisure. It's good enough, IMHO, that even semi-pro-type usage of Archos's machine in this way is warranted. Very cool little machine, this.

It is a very good product, simple to use and efficient. I just spent two hours understanding its operation. I have loaded hundreds of songs and have a lot of space left. It is not a lot heavier than the 64Mb units and the space is huge. I recommend it to every one.

This is one great piece of technology. I bought my Archos Jukebox Recorder 15 off of ...Amazon.com and it was the best choice I have ever made. The sound quality is Great. I have tons of my favorite songs on it and it barley took any memory. The controls are really easy to learn and i set it up in a half an hour that includes getting all my songs onto it. The only down side to the product it the manual doesnt give you much information to start off with. This is just my opinion though. I have had only one dificulty with the software but that was strictly user error. The battery charge seems to last forever and it is one loud ...(which is definetly needed for metal). I would definetly recommend this MP3 player.

Great player, knowledge required though.......2002-11-07

I am not sure what Gillian was talking about but it is rather easy to adjust the volume while it is playing. You simply press the up and down buttons. How hard is that? And the navigation is easy as long as you put them into the player in a reasonable manner. The back and forward buttons function the same way as windows explorer. The player is a bit heavy, but I knew it would be because it does have a 15 gb hard drive. The USB 2.0 interface is awesome, great transfer speed, and no errors. The software installation was a breeze and the batteries can be charged while it is on. I have never had it falter, or had a play error. This is a great player, but you have to have some sort of computer knowledge to use it. Don't be swayed by reviews done by people who are computer illiterate.

RAID EzAssist, Mylex's BIOS-resident software and utilities package, enables you to configure your RAID system through automated menus, or take advantage of customizable menus. GAM's RAID management utilities let you remotely monitor and manage RAID subsystems online, using industry standard protocols. No matter where you are, Global Array Manager alerts you of any problems via e-mail, pager, fax or through the launch of an application. AcceleRAID 352 RAID controllers offer many fault tolerance features, as well as functions to ease setup and storage management. Immediate RAID Availability (background initialization) enables other setup tasks to be performed while the drives are being initialized. Mylex Online RAID Expansion allows your storage to grow with your business. Add drives to existing arrays and re-stripe data across all the drives.
