I love canon. They don't install chips on the ink carts that flasely report when the tank is empty. So with canon you get to use ALL the ink you paid for.

While it's a reliable printer for standard applications, the Canon S600 also offers plenty of jazzy possibilities for amateur crafters and photographers. A monochrome resolution of 600 x 600 dpi and color resolution of 2,400 x 1,200 dpi provide impressive clarity and crispness on either plain paper or more unusual materials, such as magnet sheets, transparencies, and glossy photo paper. The included Canon imaging software provides photo editing options for users with Canon digital cameras, and management tools for all stored images.
The installation process was outlined clearly on the setup sheet, and configuring the printer was simple. Drivers loaded smoothly (Mac users have an extra download), and the four separate ink tanks are color-coded to ensure proper placement. The paper-loading tray is crafted from an impressively sturdy plastic, and the lower receiving tray folds back over the case when not in use. The quick-start guide is something you'll want to keep handy if you plan on using many different paper types with your S600--each paper style has a different maximum load, and overloading this printer is a sure way to cause paper jams.
Colors and tones were gorgeous, and images retained crisply defined detail on both matte and glossy paper. The overall print speed seemed to vary a fair amount; while standard monochrome office documents clipped along at about 12 pages per minute (ppm), detailed colored sheets slowed to about 4 ppm. While this speed is acceptable for most home users, it may be frustrating at higher outputs. All management occurs through dialog boxes that are easy to navigate, and the two-button operation is ideal for those who like their technology plain and simple. Excellent for families or home offices, the Canon S600 is perfect for churning out everything from class reports and office spreadsheets to cheerful photo magnets for the grandparents. --Jill Lightner

I bought this "refurbished" printer at a bargain price a year ago and could not be any happier with it. You don't have to replace the ink cartridge with one $$ investment. Instead you buy $$-$$ individual cartridges only for the color run out. Its great. I love the quality of the colors. Its my favorite printer ever.
SLOW; Bad Software.......2003-04-21
Sometimes this machine is horribly, horribly slow. It does not seem to depend on what my computer is doing. It can be up to three minutes per page. And usually it slows down just when I need it to [speed up]!
Also, the software leaves much to be desired. I can't program in my preferences and have to keep clicking time after time that I want "draft" mode or "reverse pages."

I bought the Canon S600 Printer 2 weeks ago and I'm not happy.
1. It prints 1 PAGE OF TEXT IN 3 MINUTES (on parallel port) and 2.3 PAGES IN 1 MINUTE (on USB port), both in draft mode.
2. Don't expect much help from Canon support technicians: they'll beat you around the bushes until you get sick and tired and give up any help. No return possibility or exchange with another printer is available from Canon.
3. Don't expect to print more 218 text pages on 1 cartridge of black ink.
4. Even my Lexmark Z11,Xerox and HP 600 printers are much faster.
5. If you want to print in duplex mode, this one doesn't do it--you have to turn each page around by hand.
6. The only good thing: the print and colors are significantly clearer than all other printers cited above.
So, before bying a Canon printer, think minimum 5 times!

Have had this printer for about a year now at least. Output quality is excellent, but maybe I just haven't figured out printing pictures the optimal way. Consumable cost is reasonable, but I wish third party refills were a good option. Printing speed is slow at times, but being a home user I really can't justify paying more for a faster printer. Overall very happy with purchse.
Great graphics and text.......2002-07-20
I have been using this printer since 11/01 and have nothing but praise for it. With the exception of the kiniptions it goes through when it is first turned on this printer has both speed and print quality. I am using mine on a HP laptop via parallel port and sharing it on a home network. Ink lasts a long time and is inexpensive to replace. Never had a paper jam or mis printed page with over 2500 sheet pulled through. Have also printed many photos on photo paper with great results (thats when the ink really gets used). Overall a quality printer at a great price.

Amazing quality at this price point.........2006-05-29
For those that are looking for a high quality speaker stand, look no further. At this price, these can't be beat. They're built like a tank out of heavy gauge steel and weigh about 25 pounds each. My bookshelf speakers weigh 28 pounds each and need a stable, safe platform. Looking elsewhere, I found a number of speaker stands that would have been great but I didn't want to pay hundreds of dollars. They assemble easily with only two screws each. They also come with spikes which are necessary for those with thick carpet and a concrete foundation. Fortunately, the spikes are optional for those with wood, pergo or flooring not appropriate for spikes. The top platform can be used with the included stubby spikes to keep the speaker in place. I used Blu Tac instead of the top spikes. The interior of the center column can be filled with sand or shot to further dampen and anchor the stands to the floor. I set them up without spikes on a wood floor. They're very stable but I'd be reluctant to use them or any stand mounted speaker with a [...]that's in an exploratory stage. The quality of the paint is high with no noticeable defects. Bottom line, These are an incredible bargain but be careful about shipping costs. These are available elsewhere so shopping around is highly recommended. Amazon wanted almost 50 dollars for shipping from Parts Express. Parts Express shipped free. Hey Amazon - I'm a loyal customer but in this case, your 'shipping' cost was a deal breaker.

Brother P-Touch Tape can be cranky.......2007-08-31
I purchased this Brother P-Touch tape for an older P-Touch labeler, and the tape jammed. For some reason, the older printer works better with 3/4" tape, though it is rated for the 1/4" width, too.
I used another new tape in this same label printer, and it broke. I contacted Brother to ask about a replacement, and never heard from them.
Labeling Tape.......2007-03-09
I use this 1/4" tape on all types of surfaces. It is easy to read and sticks well. Makes orginizing easy.
Perfect size for CDs.......2001-02-19
The quarter inch size is the perfect size for the spines of the CD jewel cases. I use them all of the time to label my CDRs. Good for other small jobs too.
