The feature-rich PIXMA iP5200R Photo Printer can produce a beautiful photo lab quality 4" x 6" borderless print in about 36 seconds. And it delivers an amazing resolution of up to 9,600 x 2,400 color dpi, for detail and clarity unmatched by comparable printers. To achieve this, Canon Full-photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering (FINE) uses a next-generation 3,584-nozzle print head that ejects precise, consistent droplets as small as one picoliter. Want to print directly from your PictBridge compatible digital camera or DV camcorder? It's easy: just connect and print! The dual paper path lets you keep photo paper stored in one tray and plain paper in the other, so you're always ready to print photos or documents. Another feature is the two-sided printing capability using the auto sheet feeder or the paper cassette - helping you cut your paper usage in half.

The iP5200R photo printer conforms to the IEEE 802.11b/g wireless (WiFi) standard, enabling it to receive wireless transmissions from up to 164 feet away. Meaning? You can work here and print there, with no printer cable to tie you down. Print a photo from your den, or a report from the patio. The Canon ChromaLife100 system combines the PIXMA iP5200R Photo Printer's FINE print head technology and newly developed inks with select Canon photo papers, with results rivaling that of many conventional photos. 5 out of 5 stars Very convenient in WiFi home.......2007-01-04

This printer is very convenient in our WiFi household [family with high school and college students, a couple of laptops, a couple of desktops, something different every day]. We used to keep a PC with attached Epson C80 printer on wired LAN. The PC had to be on and the printer had to be on. The print nozzles kept clogging, and Epson told me the solution was to power off the printer when not printing. The old printer kept getting clogged heads because it would only "park" when powered off. So either we had to keep the printer "off" and turn it on/off manually, or go through an ink wasting ritual clean/test/clean/test until the print nozzles unclogged.

Now things are much better... The Canon PIXMA iP5200R is on WiFi, so I don't have to use a PC to "host" the printer. The PIXMA has automatic power on/off, so it turns on when someone sends a print job and turns itself off when not in use. This is very convenient, saves power, and no trouble with the ink/nozzles.

I don't do a lot of extremely technical photography so I can't say how the PIXMA compares to other photo printers. The photos I print look great to me. Text and graphics printing look great too.

I think I'm getting good ink economy compared to other printers. The printer cartridges hold a lot of ink compared to some other brands (more ink per unit cost) and I'm not having to waste a lot of ink in the print nozzle cleaning ritual.

I'm very happy with this printer. I'm only disappointed that Canon discontinued this model, I was going to buy another one for another network setup at remote part-time office.

5 out of 5 stars Canon fits the bill!.......2006-11-16

I originally purchased the Canon PIXMA IP4200 photo printer for use as a color printer (to print my school assignments), with the ability to print photos with some degree of accuracy. The 4200 worked well, but didn't have the ability to print on my home network with multiple platforms, mainly Mac Tiger 10.4 and Windows XP and 2000 Pro at the same time. That was really frustrating and unbelievable. I could not even use an A/B switch; the PIXMAs require a single full-time dedicated USB port. I have used printers from Brother and HP and never had issues printing while sharing across a network, even across multiple platforms. After a lot of effort and patience on my part, Canon agreed to replace it with the PIXMA IP5200R. At first it worked while the USB ports were plugged into a Mac computer, however (using the Ethernet port) with the Windows computers did not print at all. After I changed it around so that the USB port was plugged into a Windows computer, and shared that with other Windows PC's, not the Mac, it worked. I installed the network driver software (via Ethernet) for the Mac to work. I think that downloading the latest drivers from Canon's web-site would be a good idea, not using the driver disk that comes with the printer. It is working now for all five of my home computers, and I am satisfied. One of the main reasons I chose Canon over HP is that I did not like the fact that when I owned an HP printer, when the color cartridge ran out of one of the three inks, the whole cartridge had to be replaced, wasting 2/3 of the cartridge's ink, not to mention the fact that the print head had to be replaced too. Print heads can last a lot longer then the ink tanks. I like the fact that the PIXMA series has five ink tanks, which may sound expensive, but it allows for greater overall efficiency in supply use. I think that many people are complaining about the supply usage, but I believe that what happens when you install a new print head is that it uses almost half the ink just to fill the print head. Subsequent ink tank replacements should "last longer". While the Canon PIXMA series is certainly different then most, I believe it represents a better value then anything on the market.

2 out of 5 stars Exercise in frustration for low light pics--and very little control.......2006-09-21

This printer has been an exercise in frustration. I was very happy with our Epson 200R, but we used it to death and wanted to try an upgrade. I should have bought 2 more of the Epsons.

I like to take pics in low light, and this printer has not yet printed a low light print w/ enough detail. They are all horribly dark, muddy. The details drop out. The most frustrating thing is that the print driver gives very little by way of choice. Whereas the cheaper Epson gave more control over print quality, to adjust brightness the Canon gives three choices: Light Normal andd Dark. "Light" just washes out the picture. And, still, for my lowest light pics, Light is still too too dark. My pics look like MUD.

I read online that i should use the proprietary software to adjust the brightness of my pics. First, i hate the idea that i have to make my photos lighter just so they'll print correctly. Second, the software crashes every single time I get to the final step!

I understand there are various "profiles" i could use to help. Well, i frankly would rather be doing other things than spending an hour to print one photograph. Like taking pictures. I don't want to fool endlessly with settings--I just want a printer that works.

Argh!!!

The first few prints we made with this printer looked ok. I think they were probably brigth, outdoor shots. For anything else this printer has been useless.

Gave 2 stars bc the wireless funtion would be convenient--if only the printer worked correctly!!

4 out of 5 stars Good printer so far.......2006-08-02

Despite what others have reported, I had no problems setting up the printer for both wired and wireless. I do recommend setting it up wired first. My 2nd computer prints via the DLink wireless router with no problems. The power button on the printer is pretty well hidden (black button on a black case) but I discovered the auto power on/off setting which works great, even with wireless.

The duplex feature is great and photos print nicely.

Note, for the wireless set up you do need to know a little about this. If someone set up your wireless for you then you might need them back to configure the SSID (and WEP key if used.)

I have had no problem with ink and have done quite a bit of color printing and still have the original cartridges.

5 out of 5 stars Quality and Speed.......2006-07-25

This printer is wonderful. The print quality is as good as you get through snapfish or similar digital processing companies - assuming you step up and buy good photo paper. The output speed is excellent in both color and black. The flexibilty of having two paper trays works well for me as I have the printer hidden away in a draw and connected wirelessly to my hub/router. The printer is larger than I expected but, really what's the big deal, if you want a smaller printer that's portable get a HP Deskjet 460bwt. Set up was a breeze - I'm running Mac OS 10.4.7 on a MacBook Pro. Great quality, great price and excellent flexibility with the wireless feature.

5 out of 5 stars Effortless.......2006-02-25

I finally upgraded from an ancient (but still working) CanonBJ, and I'm very happy with the results. Setup, including connecting through my wireless router, was a breeze; printing is speedy whether through my desktop or laptop; photo quality is great. Letter-size paper in the top feed and photos/envelopes in the tray offers good flexibility. I had trouble installing the Canon "Easy Web Print" on my laptop for some reason, but it isn't an essential feature. I haven't used the PictBridge feature with my camera yet, but it's nice to have the option avaiable.

5 out of 5 stars Quiet, sharp print quality ...easy to setup.......2006-02-09

The unpackaging and ink cartridge instructions are concise and easy to follow. Pop the Pixmaip CD into your PC and follow the directions to install the printer on your wired or wireless LAN. You'll also automatically install the printer drivers, setup the printer device on your PC and load software useful for picture viewing and editing. Printer setup was a no-brainer and thus far the Pixma ip400R has been totally print reliable. This printer can be placed anywhere in the house and still receive print jobs by all household PCs! The "Out of the box" setup time until the first print copy was about 30 minutes.

5 out of 5 stars Very Flexible Printer.......2005-12-28

I have a home network with both Windows XP and Mac OSX computers - 1 Windows desktop, 1 Windows laptop, 1 iBook. I struggled for a year trying to get my iBook to print on the printer attached to the desktop. I also tried several print servers, and never managed to get a good network printing solution.

Then, I happened upon the Canon iP4000R. I like Canon (have an i900D) for the cost of consumables (not cheap, but cheaper than Epson, HP) and photo print quality, so I decided to try the iP4000R.

It installed in minutes on my network. It works flawllessly with Windows and Macintosh computer via WiFi!. Its only plugged into a 120V socket, sitting out of the way, waiting for a print job.

It has 802.11g for speed and WPA for security - something I did not expect to find in this price range (I paid $160). I was also pleasantly surprised by the paper inpute cartridge under the printer which keeps the printer's profile low - no paper sticking out of the top like my i900D.

I think this printer is a bargain considering you are getting a very good quality printer, a print server, ethernet and WiFi adapter.

5 out of 5 stars Wow! This printer is amazing!.......2005-11-27

This is one amazing printer. The print quality is outstanding. Photos look professional, they look exactly the same as photo-lab prints. Black text looks laser quality and the WiFi feature lets me print from anywhere in my house, from any one of my computers.

5 out of 5 stars Best printer ever.......2005-11-17

Does everything it advertises. Borderless printing and duplex printing are the s**t. The wireless printing is cool too but its up to you to decide if it's worth the extra $$$. As for me, I am totally satisfied.

4 out of 5 stars Fun Radio for "Tuning Around" on Shortwave........2006-03-26

This is an "old fashioned" dial and pointer radio, lacking all of the features of a modern digital set... no preset stations, poor indication of the actual frequency that is tuned, no clock, no alarm. Somehow, it is still great fun to use!
Band scanning has been a weak point of digital radios... the sound is usually muted while slewing through the frequency range, leaving just a tuning indicator light to show that a station has been found (most will not stop scanning on weak signals), or if not muted, a loud "chuffing" noise is produced as the frequencies are scanned. With this set you just turn the knob and listen for stations!
If you want to easily find, say the BBC on 5.975 Mhz a digital radio will get you there much faster, but for scanning the band to see what is on, the old dial and pointer still works quite well!
Also see my review of the Similar Sangean model SG622. The Sangean is slightly more expensive, larger in size, slightly better sounding due to having a larger speaker, Kaito seems to be slightly more sensitive on weak signals and is more solid feeling. I like the thumbwheel controls and color (blue) of the Kaito better. Wish I could give the Kaito another 1/2 star! ...both work well!

4 out of 5 stars Great Radio.......2005-11-17

This radio is wonderful. The reception is great. I was able to get stations from Taiwan, China, Japan, Sweeden, Britain, Germany, many Spanish speaking countries and lots of morse code, too. If you want to hear worldwide broadcasts, this is for you.

4 out of 5 stars Good Thing In A Small Package.......2005-10-20

My WRX911 has seen over 9 months of regular use/abuse, and still remains a usual suspect in my roster of "grab and go" radios. The radio is only a dash larger than a pack of cigarettes and comes in either black or metallic blue. I've found the blue color to be quite the conversation generator when tuning the dial in public. It comes with a carry strap, pouch, earphones and AC wall adaptor. The radio sits horizontally, with a tilting stand mounted to the back for just the right angle to keep it stable while tuning the dial. Reception on FM, AM, and the 9 shortwave bands is very good for a radio this size. Overall quality is good, with solid construction, a decent feel on the switches, and the tuning dial moving smoothly through the frequencies. For its price, there are a few expected shortcomings. The tuning dial is analog instead of digital, and can make finding a particular station a sometimes hit-and-miss exercise. There is no dial lighting, and the power and tune LED's seem overly-bright in a darkened room. Dial accuracy can be somewhat subjective and varies from unit to unit, with some being off on certain bands and dead-on with others. The audio quality isn't as rich as some people demand from their radios, but even with a small speaker it is easy to hear what is coming through. The battery door hides 2 AA batteries, and removes completely. This can make it easy to lose if you're not careful. The FM on my radio is so sensitive, it easily overloads into a mishmash of stations unless the antenna is pulled back to the body. The antenna will not tilt forward when the radio is in an angled position, and will cause the radio to fall over when tilted back while the WRX911 is standing straight. The overall sensitivity of this radio is great for something so small, with plenty of AM stations coming in and most shortwave offerings not being a problem. A few feet of wire and alligator clip snapped onto the antenna allow the WRX911 to really haul in the fainter SW stations. There's no clock, memories, gain switches or the like, and that's alright. The WRX911 is designed to be a small, no-frills radio that brings in local and distant signals while on the go, and it has accomplished this very well. For the price, you may want to pick up two before anyone else discovers these little gems.

2 out of 5 stars Shortwave is weak.......2005-09-17

I bought this because I wanted to hear stations in either Europe or the Middle East. I really can't hear any of those places. I heard Toronto, Mexico, one Asian country, and a French speaking station that wasn't come out clear enough. The AM and FM are very good, though. And it is a very small radio. But I am looking for a strong Shortwave at a bargain, and I didn't get that.

5 out of 5 stars Great pocket radio, superb reception. Rivals tabletops........2005-02-03

I own a Grundig Satellit 700 and a Sangean ATS-803A, reputed to be serious contenders in the sensativity/reception category. This little gem is great. It picks up everything my Grundig can on it's internal whip antenna. Granted some of the weak signals are inaudible on the WRX911, but honestly are impossible to hear on the Grundig as well. I love this radio so much I purchased a second one just to squirrel away as a backup. Do yourself a favor and pick one up to take with you everywhere. I tuck it in my pocket to pull out at any time I want a world news fix. It picks up AM/FM equally as well. Worth every dime, I think you'll agree.
