Amazon.com Product Description

Featuring a high-tech design with aluminum front cover and metallic handgrip, the Canon PowerShot A80 combines a sense of both the modern and the traditional. Despite its entry-level designation in Canon's digital lineup, the easy-to-operate, 4-megapixel PowerShot A80 is a surprisingly advanced model with sophisticated optics and manual controls. It also features a twisting LCD screen.

Optics and Resolution
The PowerShot A80 offers a 4-megapixel CCD sensor that produces images up to 2272 x 1704 pixels for photo-quality 11 x 14 inch enlargements. Other resolution modes include 1600 x 1200, 1024 x 768, and 640 x 480. The 3x zoom lens has a focal length of 7.8-23.4mm (equivalent to 38-114mm in 35mm photography). It also incorporates a 3.6x digital zoom for a total 11x zoom. The PowerShot A80 also features Canon's nine-point AiAF system for focusing accuracy, shutter speeds of 15 to 1/1,500 second, and fast sequence shooting at a rate of 2.2 frames per second (fps).

Movie Mode
In addition to taking still photos, the A80 can also record up to 3 minutes of video with sound. It has two resolution settings: 320 x 240, and 160 x 120. You can record for up to 3 minutes per clip in either resolution. Note that you cannot use the optical zoom when in movie mode. The included 32 MB memory card can hold 91 seconds of video at the highest setting.

More Features
The PowerShot A80 has a 1.5-inch variable-angle LCD monitor that gives you even more shooting options. Turn the LCD monitor 180 degrees toward the front of the camera and the A80 will display your choice of a mirror image or a non-reversed image to give you a true view of your actual shot.

Offering a wider scope for photographic experimentation, Canon has also included manual, aperture priority, and shutter priority exposure modes. These modes are supported by a metering system that boasts evaluative, center-weighted average and spot options.

Canon's DIGIC (DIGital Imaging Core) processor ensures excellent color rendition and white balance for every shot, as well as super-fast auto focusing, noise-free imaging, and advanced flash exposure performance.

Printing
Canon has introduced a series of printers designed to work directly with its lineup of digital cameras. Using these printers, no computer is required--simply connect the camera to the printer and start printing. Printers include Canon's bubble jet direct printers i900D and i960, and card photo printer CP-200 and CP-300. Of course, photos from your camera can also be printed on any home computer system with an inkjet printer, sent off for online processing, or simply enjoyed on your computer screen.

Storage and Transfer
Images are stored on CompactFlash Type I memory cards; a 32 MB card is included. When shooting in Large/Normal mode, you can store 54 images on the included memory card. Images can be downloaded to either a Mac or PC via USB 1.1, which means the camera can be connected to any USB-based Windows Me/2000/XP and Mac OS 8.6 or later computer without installing any software.

Power and Size
The camera is powered by 4 AA batteries (alkalines included, NiMH rechargeables recommended). It measures 4.1 by 2.5 by 1.4 inches and weighs 8.8 ounces (excluding battery).

What's In The Box
This package includes the PowerShot A80 digital camera, 32 MB CompactFlash memory card, four AA alkaline batteries, USB and AV cables, and wrist strap. It also comes with ArcSoft Camera Suite and Digital Camera Solutions CD-ROMs with imaging software and USB drivers for Windows and Mac.

1 out of 5 stars Do not buy this camera!.......2007-07-19

I was given a Canon A80 as a gift 2+ years ago. I actually used it happily for that time. Then, when I had been using the camera and downloading photos from the camera, suddenly I received a warning that there was "no memory card" in the camera. I had not removed the memory card. I wrote to Canon Customer Service, followed their detailed instructions for fixing the problem, but their directions were completely flawed and could not fix the problem. I see from others' comments that this camera only lasts several years--I believe Canon should build a product that lasts and doesn't have to be replaced so frequently.

2 out of 5 stars Doesn't work after 2 1/2 years.......2007-06-23

Like many other reviewers, I loved this camera until it recently stopped working. It keeps telling me to change the battery pack and turns off after a few seconds. This is after I put in new batteries. The support center told me that it would be over $100 to fix and that if I send it in, I will be offered an upgrade to a reconditioned A530 for only $125.00. I checked the Amazon price and the A530 sells new for $119.00!! I guess I'll discard the A80 and try another brand.

5 out of 5 stars Great camera!.......2006-11-19

I have taken countless pictures of 6 grandchildren for over 3 years without a single problem! 6 yr old granddaughter loves to run around taking lots of pictures with it and have to say this is NOT a fragile camera. Want to find another to give to an 8 year old for Christmas. LOVE this camera... especially like the vari-angle LCD monitor. It really helps to keep the monitor from being damaged.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent little camera...........2006-09-12

I have used this camera for about 3 years (i've taken close to 1500 photos and about 30 video clips) and its still the best camera I've ever owned! Durable and utilitarian, it satisfies all amateur photographic needs (takes zoom, panorama, night shots, b/w, sepia, self-timed.) The video function though limited & grainy is useful for short recordings. The screen is small, but that's a minor disadvantage. It's a little bulky, but still small enough to fit in your pocket (a big pocket), though it is heavy. The price is very reasonable. Battery life is only adequate (4 AA).

Two absolute additional accessories and add-ins- the Samsonite camera case (see my other reviews) and a larger memory card (at least 512 MB). The 32 MB card that comes with the phone is useless.

Highly recommended....

1 out of 5 stars Great camera until 2nd year. Stopped working.......2006-09-11

We used this camera for taking general purpose family pictures. Nice design and good feature set. At 2yr mark it completely stopped saving pictures to CF card. I can't find any information on canon site. Bummer, I was really hoping to upgrade to a EOS this year. Probably no more Canons for me.

4 out of 5 stars User friendly. Great pictures. Overall a really good camera........2007-07-05

I have had this camera for more than two years and had absolutely no problems with the camera ITSELF. Sure, the extra battery charger that we bought for our rechargeable batteries failed on us, but that ultimately has nothing to do with the camera itself.
The only con I seem to find for this camera is that it is fairly bulky and heavy. I bought a soft case, so that decreased the problem dramatically, but I still felt like it should be lighter.
Anyways...to the pro's. Extremely user friendly. Easy to get around inside the camera and find the tricks of the trade. The quality of the pictures is really good as you can see the crispness and details of the face.

A great and perfect camera for the typical family/person who isnt interested in taking professional photos that will sell for thousands of dollars. A great point and shoot for the value.
Remember to buy separate rechargeable batteries and a much larger CF card. 256 MB was fine for me, but you can always get a 512. Anything bigger than that is not worth it unless you plan on taking thousands of photos.

Respect and care for the camera and it will respect you back with quality photos in a WORKING conditiong.

2 out of 5 stars Works great - Until it dies..........2007-07-04

Good pictures, easy to use... until it just won't work anymore. After about 10 months of frequent use, the display would periodically get "grainy" and have lines and then finally the power on & off became very sporadic. When we researched the problem on-line, we found that it had been recalled due to a piece malfunction. We turned it in for repairs we were told that the problems weren't due to the recall and we'd need to pay over $100 to repair it. Since we'd had other family members who'd had the same exact problems, we decided to spend the $100 on a new Nikon instead.

4 out of 5 stars Been good to me...........2007-06-04

I recieved this digital camera for Christmas back in 2004, and it so far been doing very well. The images I want come up nice a clearly (as long as my arms hold steady), and if an image does come out the way I want it to, I can use other options to retake the image (when doing still images). I do plan to one day upgrade to a newer digital camera for art purposes, but for a point and shoot it has done w good job. I have even dropped it a couple times when it was off, and the only problem that came from that is the screen slightly flickers lines through it, but when the image is taken the lines don't appear.

5 out of 5 stars AWSOME CAMERA.......2007-05-29

I got this camara a few years ago and have been taking pictures with it ever since. They are high quality picture. The controls are easy to use. You will need to purchase rechargeable batteries to go with it though. I have had no problems with this camara. I only wish It had morte megapixels now.

5 out of 5 stars Great Little Camera for an older model .......2007-05-15

I've had this camera since 2004. Then recently a coworker got a Canon A460 and that got me to thinking that I wanted something new so I checked out some of the newer cameras like the Canon A550 and SD800. Eventually, I will buy the Canon 550 or 570 and give the A85 to my son regardless what's the hurry. Then I was looking at the A85 because I want to buy one for my mom for a overseas trip and saw the reviews on amazon so I thought I would share mine. This is a great little camera. I have taken excellent pictures with it. And I have had no problems with it. It is easy to use and I do have 2 sets of rechargable batteries.

    Product Description

AT&T 9410 cordless phone uses the 900 MHz band for improved performance, extended range and higher voice clarity. The Spread Spectrum technology virtually eliminates noise and interference from your conversations as well as coupled with Advanced Digital Voice Privacy it guards against conversations being overheard by eavesdroppers. It provides twice the range of ordinary cordless telephones. And it is headset compatible for hands-free conversations.

    Amazon.com Review

Are you tired of roaming the house with your cordless phone in search of a static-free connection? We found that this unit, which uses 900 MHz digital spread spectrum technology, virtually eliminated background interference, no matter where we used the handset.

The 9410 operates in the 900 MHz radio band and can easily penetrate walls and other physical barriers. Its digital spread spectrum technology provides you with an incredibly long range. In our tests, we found the voice sound quality to be somewhat hollow, as though we were speaking into a tunnel, but we were able to use the phone over 1,000 feet from the base with minimal voice breakup and background static.

If you forget where you left the handset, simply press the handset locator button on the base, and the handset will beep, guiding you to its location. The lightweight handset has an intuitive button layout, including memory, flash, and mute buttons. The memory function stores up to 20 numbers that remain saved even when you change the battery or in the event of a power failure. Saving a number is straightforward and the memory dialing feature is easy to use. Just press the program button, dial the number you want to save, press Memory, and enter a number between 1 and 20. The handset sounds a tone so you'll know your number has been stored. If you subscribe to services like call waiting or call forwarding, you can access them by pressing the flash button. Mute allows you to hear your caller but prevents the caller from hearing you; the handset sounds a tone and the mute light illuminates, confirming your privacy.

Additional features include a battery saver, ringer selection, and a headset jack. You can also extend battery life by turning the ringer off; however, there is no ringer-off indicator. You may choose from four different ringer sounds, although we found all four of them to have a very similar tone. The headset jack allows you to install a 2.5- millimeter headset (not included) for hands-free operation.

With its static-free transmission and long range, the 9410 gives you clear conversation all around your home, inside and out. --Emily Bakko

    1 out of 5 stars Junk Phone.......2003-07-02

Very cheap phone, horriable reception, poor quality. Worst AT&T phone ever

    2 out of 5 stars Disappointing.......2002-08-22

I purchased this phone when Amazon. com was running a rebate special--the phone's final price was ($$$). Well, the phone is worth about ($$$)! It does have some nice features such as digital spread and speed dial. Plus, the design is rather compact. However, the sound is not too clear and calls get dropped. Furthermore, this phone constantly caused my phone line to stop working (granted, I also had a computer and answering machine hooked up). After a few months, I decided to buy a Michael Graves phone from Target (also available through Amazon)--that phone works perfectly and my phone line is in tact!

    1 out of 5 stars BAD PHONE.......2002-08-01

This phone was bad from the start. It had an ecoh sound and the range was only 50 feet before it started to have really bad audio. It refused to connect with the base often (BEEP BEEP). The power plug would spark when plugged in to the base. Then it would refuse to charge. I charged the battery manually for a while but now it won't come on at all, it just gives it's familiar "beep beep" error sound. I spent [alot of money] on this thing new and I'm [mad].

    1 out of 5 stars 2 purchased 2 bad.......2002-03-06

I purchased 2 AT&T 900 Mhz DSS phones and was disappointed that after 2 months, both handsets were not communicating with the base unit.

The handsets establish an open connection and tie the line up, but I can't get a dial tone. Its nice to hear the phone ring, pick it up, and get nothing. I would stay clear of this one.

5 out of 5 stars cheap phone that works........2001-05-31

Well I got this phone at (store name) on sale for $. The price was right. It is cheaper than the old 9400 that I also have. The sound quality is very good. You have to turn the ringer on off by electronics but I have not found a good phone with a on off switch. I got mine for next to a computer. Well, none of them work well next to a computer. But for the price of this phone, it is a steal. The spectrum technology gives you a lot of freedom that other phones do not. I had tried a Bell South but it had to much noise. Uniden has the best record out there but how do you turn off the ringer?? Well, If you can not turn off the ringer the battery goes dead. Ok, this phone is very junky but is there a better phone out there? Read the book. They all say stay away from computers. Well, This one will work. Not perfect, but it works.
