Amazon.com Product Description
The Canon PowerShot S10 is one of the smallest 2.1-megapixel cameras in its class. The charge-coupled device (CCD) sensor creates full-color and B&W high-resolution images up to 1,600 x 1,200 pixels. It offers a 2x zoom lens and a range of shooting modes. It features an extremely compact design that is only 4.1 inches long, 2.7 inches high, and 1.3 inches wide (with lens retracted). In addition, the PowerShot S10 weighs just 9.5 ounces excluding battery and CompactFlash card. Despite its small size, this camera offers large, easy-to-use control buttons placed just where you'd expect to find them. The Omni Selector centralized button offers advanced functions logically arranged in one place.
The Canon PowerShot S10 uses CompactFlash type I and II memory cards. The Canon PowerShot S10 also supports IBM's 340 MB Microdrive, capable of storing the equivalent of 10 rolls of pictures at a time.
Another user-friendly feature of this camera is its USB (universal serial bus) connectivity, which allows the PowerShot S10 to communicate with your computer 20 times faster than standard serial port connectors. You can connect directly to USB or use the RS-232C serial port.
The PowerShot S10 is powered by a lightweight 2CR5 lithium (or NB-5H rechargeable NiMH) battery and an internal CR2016 lithium battery that ensures date/time stamp backup.
The Canon PowerShot S10 comes with a comprehensive software package that is fully compatible with PC and Macintosh computers and includes Adobe PhotoDeluxe and PhotoStitch for both Mac OS and Windows. It also provides a wrist strap, a video cable, interface cables, a lithium battery, an 8 MB CompactFlash card, a case for the CompactFlash card, and a user's manual.

Great Point and Shoot.......2002-12-17
I have owned mine for over two years now and I would have to say that it has performed up to every task I have asked of it. The cameras size was important to me and this camera fits well in a pair of khakis or cargo shorts. Things that are a must buy are the kit with charger and at least a 64 MB CF card, I have a 64 and a 128. I love that fact that I can display pictures on the TV with the cables provided. Make editing away from home much easier. Also I bought a second battery and carrying case. All these thing have ensured me of lots of photo ops. This camera does not perform well at sporting events or in low light, but any time the flash goes of it works great. Canon has better software on-line than what came with the camera. Worth every cent.
Wonderful Item.......2002-07-27
We are currently stationed in Misawa Japan. I bought this camera for my fathers birthday so we can e-mail pictures back and forth of family and my son. The quality is great, and its picture quality when I go to print it out.
Mother of Two.......2002-01-27
This camera is wonderful. With two kids I take pictures all the time and because they are digital I can delete the "bad" ones later. I have had the camera for over 6 months and I love it. We took the camera to Disneyland and the battery never ran out. (we recharged it nightly) Plus the storage card is interchangable with my HP Pocket PC. The picture quality is amazing. I have ordered prints as large an 11X13" and they are flawless. I higly recommend this affordable digital camera.
Well built camera, solid engineering.......2001-12-16
I got this camera over two years ago. (...) I agree that it's kind of annoying that you have to pay extra for an AC adapter, but I think Canon learned from their mistakes. I am now looking for an S110 for even more compact size.
Pros:
- Solid metal body.
I dropped it on concrete floor (unintentionally),and I really thought the camera is not going to work any more. I was wrong. Except for the dent at the corner, the LCD just came back up and I continued to take pictures.
- Good Camera Lens quality.
Maybe this is not a Carl Zeiss Lens but it's a decent glass multi element lense from Canon. Fairly decent picture quality for a 2.1 megapixel machine.
- retractable lens.
This keep the form factor compact.
- Fast usb transfer of images.
I used the serial connection for images transfer from camera to pc for over a year until I purchase a computer with USB connection (yes I had an old old machine). The performance difference was dramatic when I moved to USB.
- Slide show, video out to TV
The basic on function is pretty intuitive. Video out is convenient cause I can show others the picture on TV right after I took the picture. (not everyone have a computer)
Cons
- The software that comes with Cannon, although it works, it's not the best.
- Short battery life.
I have to turn off the LCD most of the time to conserve electricity.
the overall experience with this Canon product is good. That's why I bought a Canon ZR25MC for video and may replace my S10 with S110.
The Best and Easiest to use!.......2001-12-14
I would have to disagree with some of the other reviews. I have owned other digital cameras and none have worked and have been as fun as this one. I am not very good at computers but with this camera and the programs to print and download photos are very simple even for people who have no clue. Just read the instructions and everything will be ok. I printed out photos on some glossy paper and they look better then any photo i have seen straight from a normal camera including the professional photos that i just had done for my nephew. So this would be a great investment, and is the best camera I have used in a long time. I can spend hours taking pics and printing them out. Its worth the money.
Amazon.com Product Description
Amazon.com's exclusive bundle combines the standard Canon PowerShot S10 camera kit with a carrying case, an extra 32 MB memory card, and a spare 2CR5 disposable lithium battery.
The Canon PowerShot S10 is one of the smallest 2.1-megapixel zoom cameras available, beaten in size only by the newer Elph, also made by Canon. At its highest-quality setting, the charge-coupled device (CCD) sensor captures 24-bit full-color high-resolution images with enough detail for photo-quality prints at sizes up to 8 by 10 inches. The lens zooms from 35 to 70 mm (35mm film camera equivalent), and its autofocus system even includes an assist light for dimly lit situations. The camera features an extremely compact design that is only 4.1 inches long, 2.7 inches high, and 1.3 inches wide (with lens retracted). In addition, the PowerShot S10 weighs just 9.5 ounces, excluding battery and CompactFlash card. Despite its small size, this camera offers large, easy-to-use control buttons placed just where you'd expect to find them. The Omni Selector centralized button offers advanced functions logically arranged in one place. For storage, the camera uses CompactFlash type I and II memory cards, including IBM's 340 MB Microdrive, a matchbook-size hard disk with great storage capacity.
Another user-friendly feature of this camera is its USB (universal serial bus) connectivity, which allows the PowerShot S10 to communicate with your computer 20 times faster than standard serial port connectors. You can connect directly to USB or use the RS-232C serial port.
Our biggest problem with this camera is its battery situation. The camera uses a single lithium 2CR5 battery (two come with the bundle). Though these batteries do last for a long time, they're not cheap ($10 to $12 at most drugstores) and not as widely available as traditional AA batteries. If you're an occasional photographer, the disposables should work fine. However, we've found that most people end up purchasing the Canon rechargeable battery kit as a long-term solution.
The Canon PowerShot S10 bundle comes with a comprehensive software package that is fully compatible with PC and Macintosh computers and includes Adobe PhotoDeluxe and PhotoStitch for both Mac OS and Windows. It also provides a soft carrying case, wrist strap, video cable, serial and USB interface cables, two lithium batteries, 8 MB and 32 MB CompactFlash cards, a CompactFlash card case, and a user's manual.

Best so far.......2002-12-22
The Cannon S10 was the first digital camera I have ever owned, having bought it close to two years ago. I decided to up-grade to a higher megapixal camera so a few days ago I bought the Minolta 404. I wanted a camera that I could add audio to the pics so I would know when I downloaded the pictures what pictures they were. Seen one mountain, seen them all but which is which? I figured the added audio would solve that problem. Second, I wanted a camera that was small enough to carry on my belt but able to shoot short movies, like when you see wildlife walking. So I spent big bucks, bought the Minolta 404 took some pictures with it at the settings I have my Cannon set to and was very disappointed in the quality of the pictures. I just arrived home after returning the Minolta 404.
I may not be able to add audio to my pictures with the Cannon S10 but one thing for sure, it shoots far superior, cleaner and clearer pictures then the Minolta. Lets face it, audio would be nice but quality pictures is what I really want and the S10 Cannon is the best so far. By the way, the Minolta had 4 megapixals and the Cannon has only 2.1 but the pictures of the Cannon are a lot better. I have several photos blown up to 8 X 10 and they are great. Don't buy a $600 camera and print on a $100 printer,,,you will be disappointed. With a good camera and a good printer you can't go wrong. I use a HP Photosmart 1218 printer. Nice thing is I can take the media card and use it directly in the printer and download my pictures that way without using up batter power. On batteries, I use a battery charger and always keep an extra battery on hand and never have I had any problems running out of power. I also don't use the LCD screen, just the view finder.

Digital is the way to go.......2002-10-25
I purchased this camera a year ago and it has delivered as I would expect for a quality Canon product. The detail is great and transferability to my laptop wonderful.
Best Value.......2002-01-31
Love this camera. I bought it and would not part with it for anything. Easy to use, set up, and transfer pictures. Most of the camera functions are so straightforward you really do not even have to use the manual to know what is going on. I do recommend buying the rechargeable battery kit; it is well worth the money -- have recharged the battery enough to pay for the charger.
If this comes off of out of stock. ORDER IT FAST.
Awesome Digital Camera Package.......2001-11-21
This was a great value. We were very pleased with what we received for our money. I was just looking on line with my wife's cousin for him to buy but this item is currently out of stock. Too bad.

My poor, poor mother-in-law..........2004-12-24
...actually bought one of these, and you should've seen the look on her face when she came over to my house and heard a REAL home theater system! I felt so sorry for her, I offered to come over to her house and check that all the connections were properly set up.
Well, I went and saw that yes all the speaker cables were correctly put in. In fact, she had gone out and used those gazillion dollar Monster cables, poor thing---she was always such a gullible, trusting woman.
But that was that: there simply was no way around the simple fact that for the outrageous amount she paid for this system, it produced barely mediocre sound. Just lots of treble and some exaggerated bass, which would be okay if you only watch bang-bang-wham-bam-kaboom action movies. However, she loves musicals and dramas---which only exposed the total scam that this overhyped and overpriced Bose stuff really is.
To their credit, Bose does however honor their money-back policy which UPS and FedEx probably appreciate greatly.
Move over ... the God's here.......2004-05-22
This is God himself.Make no distinctions about it.I have heard from many so called "Audiophiles"(basically a bunch of losers who think earth shattering bass and big balls is all there is to life) that Bose products are a waste, they are useless, they are over priced, bla, bla bla and the works.that is until i entered the Bose Store in Uptown,Bangalore, with my Pink Floyd DVD.Once it started playing "Shine on you crazy diamond", time stood still.Believe me.No one moved for another 6 mins, and that is the power of Bose,my friends. it is just different.it is just too good.it makes a clear distinction between hard bass, and depth bass. You get clarity and the depth of music is amazing.this is for the true connosiuers of music.audiophiles included.
i suggest life isnt complete without a Bose.when u die, eventually,u will carry the musical tones in ur immortal journey to another world.
ps: listen to Cafe Del Mar Vol.7 and Buddha Bar VOL 4 CD1,when it is raining and is cold outside.u will experience bliss.u will experience a high that will put crack and extacy to shame.this is life.this is why we all live.eventually help ur soul get liberated,by the Bose.Jesus ain't do it man.Bose do.
The perfect Home Theater system for Quality sound !.......2002-12-09
The BOSE LS 12 quality sound and "futuristic look" convinced me so much I had to buy it.This system is kind of expensive but it really worths it. First You dont know were the sound comes from because the speakers are so powerfull & small, not like other BIG speakers that don`t fit well and look messy in the house.
Highly recomended for anybody that like to her good sound in CD`s, CDR`s and movies.
It deserves more than five stars!!!.......2002-09-16
...When I purchased my HDTV, I was offered a "floor model" bose system for $300. I had heard that Bose was a good brand, so I took it...It's amazing...Get this system, you won't regret it. You'll get goosebumps from it.
how about shipping internationally.......2002-09-08
How about shipping internationally? Not much info on the products by bose. on an unrelated matter - are jewel cubes available just by themselves?

Customer Reviews:
OK, but ............2002-11-07
I've wanted a Lifestyle system for several years, and finally found a system for less than...(it had been returned after one day and was heavily discounted). I brought the box home, connected the wires and boxes (very easy) and sat back to enjoy great bose sound. After several months of use, I can say that the system is OK, but not worth the cost (especially if you are paying retail). First, the quality of the materials is not that good. Cables and connectors are cheap and the music center is "brushed aluminum" - which is a nice way of saying painted plastic. Second, the system lacks features that are standard in other systems costing this much. DTS is a glaring omission. The system does not have enough jacks to accept all devices you may want to attach (VCR, DVD, cassette deck, turntable (a turntable requires an additional pre-amp). You also have to buy stands/mounting brackets (will cost another $120+). On the positive side, the CD player, radio and remote work great. Operation is a snap and the documentation good. The sound is OK. Not spectacular, but not as bad as some reviewers will have you believe. Bass is a bit muddy at times and highs are clipped. But the satellite speakers are clear and produce good sound in the mid ranges. I'm 46 and my hearing is good, but not as good as it was at 26. If you're younger or have 20/20 hearing, you may want to comparison shop before buying Bose. Sound distribution and crossover are a bit disappointing. Not the "big" movie sound I was expecting. Again, you may want to compare Bose with another system before buying.
Bottom line: not a bad system, but has average sound and many little flaws and annoyances. The marketing of Bose products in stores often makes it difficult to compare with other brands. Before you spend ...plus for this system (or another Bose product), I highly recommend comparing features and sound to make sure it fits your needs and is the best buy for your money.
