Customer Reviews:
Travelsound Zen - nice product.......2007-07-03
This works pretty well, except there should be somewhere to attach the remote. It is so small (akin to a credit card) and could be easily lost. Some type of handle would be nice, also. I wish the volume would stay at the same level, instead of having to turn it up each time it is turned on. Like the joystick, but it takes getting used to. Overall a nice product and beats using earphones each time you listen.
Incredible Sound from Compact, Easily Portable Unit.......2007-06-09
I've tried portable speakers before & have been very disappointed. This unit, created for the Creative Zen V & V Plus, had great reviews & said it would work with other MP3 players. I have a Creative Zen Xtra, so I decided to try it. My unit does not fit into the opening, which is designed specifically for the Zen V & V Plus, but worked perfectly through the use of the supplied line in cord. The sound was outstanding - absolutely incredible for a unit this size. I liked it so much & it was just what I wanted so I bought a Zen V Plus for those times when I don't need all my music.
Great sound from a small system.......2007-04-25
No matter how convenient it is to have a portable music player, there are times when you want to be able to listen to music "normally." The Travelsound Zen V is the way to do so with the Creative Zen V and Zen V Plus players.
It's very small, attractive, easy to hook up, and simple to operate. (You may have to update the firmware on your player, but the download is free on Creative's website, and the process takes just a few minutes.) There are lots of nice features. It runs on either 4 AA batteries or an included AC adapter. There's a USB input, an auxiliary line-in input, and a subwoofer output on the back. The manual is pretty minimal, but it covers the basic operation. The remote control is surprisingly convenient, but it is very small, and there's no on-board storage pocket or clip for it.
Of course, the most important aspect of any speaker system is the sound quality. The Travelsound Sen V is outstanding! It's amazing to hear the crisp sound from such a tiny system fill up a room. Obviously, you don't get booming bass from such small speakers, but the bass is very good nonetheless. The "wide stereo effect" button really works on this system; it creates an amazingly good stereo separation effect even though the speakers are actually less than six inches apart.
The Travelsound Zen V isn't cheap, but I think the convenience and quality are worth the price. I'm happy I bought it, and I'd do so again.
Great small system.......2007-03-19
I ordered this for my niece and she loves it. For how small it is, it produces great sound and charges her Zen, which is great.
Nice Docking Station.......2007-02-27
Sound quality is great with the Wide Stereo Effect. Volume has a nice range and there is low to no distortion at higher volumes. My only complaint would be that the volume control does not remember last setting, must reset volume each time i turn on. Having a remote control is nice, only i would like a pocket or some way to store remote in the station. Remote has a mute button, on top of standard controls, very nice, unfortunately same lack of on/off button as on other brands. On Docking Station itself controls are clean and straight forward. Overall i would give it a high rating. I bought it at the beginning of January.

Small yet Powerful.......2007-07-01
I bought this speaker for the days I'm home and cleaning or whatever without using my headphones (especially when the 'Rents will be calling me for some task or other.) I was a bit weary at first because of the disappointed reviews with distortion of the sound but bought it anyhow because i like the company!
Well i wasn't disappointed with the speakers and if i don't try to put the volume up too loud on my Mp3 or on the speakers its loud enough to hear without distortion another reviewer said it best i think "people want a tall drink in a short glass" or something of that nature. So honestly for its size don't expect boom box/ surround sound quality and you'll be just fine!
Louder than I could wish, and it sounds much fuller than it looks.......2007-03-11
I bought this at Wal-Mart for [...] after reading about many different portable speakers. I hadn't encountered this model in my search, however. With every intention of taking advantage of the return policy, I brought it home and tested it immediately. It sounded quite good. I turned it up; it still sounded good. I turned it up such that it hurt my ears and there was no distortion. It even maintained its modest, but audible bass. I began to compare it to my 2.1 THX approved computer speakers at similar volume. Naturally, its bass didn't compete with a sub-woofer, but the important thing is that you can HEAR the bass. Instruments and vocals at the low end of the spectrum are not lost at any volume. I was so pleased with the clarity and breadth of sound that I forgot that it was powered by batteries. I was shocked, actually, that it was putting out such volume on four AAA batteries.
Now, to be a bit less sensational, I'm very pleased with these speakers and I'm confident that they'll provide more than adequate enjoyment, even as I consider myself an audiophile. It's a perfect solution for those parts of the house where I want my music without headphones: the kitchen while I'm cooking, the garage. The speakers are quite light. Not tiny in comparison with my iPod Shuffle, but miniscule in contrast with the sound they produce. I also appreciate that the provided line-in cable is very minimal without any bulk around the plug, like most cheap 3.5mm plugs have. It comes with a felt pouch which I will definitely use, as the speakers are not protected by any kind of mesh or screen.
Finally, I discovered a switch on the back when I was putting in the batteries. It activates the "Wide Sound" feature which makes the speakers sound further apart. I'll have to spend more time with this feature to judge for certain, but so far it's effective and subtle.
Good design and good quality!.......2007-01-12
Easy to bring it everywhere and the sound quality is very good.
Great Deal for $40!! Great Set of External Speakers!.......2007-01-11
This was another fun little add-on that I got so I could listen to my MP3 player. Really, I wasn't expecting much, since they are after all external speakers, but I was pleasantly surprised... This is a great little unit... Certainly the best I've ever owned in the "external speaker" market. :)
It's really plug-and-play... Add the batteries, connect your MP3 player, and you're done. I've gotten about 20 hours out of the batteries that were included with the unit, which isn't to shabby. No, there's no AC adapter which would have been nice, but I don't miss having it, since I'd usually be running it off the battery anyway. It's great to just pick it up and move it without having to disconnect anything when I want to move to another part of the house. And having it run off the batteries is WAAAAAY better than having it run off of the MP3 player's juice.
The sound quality is fantastic, in my opinion. Definitely impressive considering the size of the speakers. Sure, it distorts when you turn it up too loud, no, it doesn't sound as great as a stereo, but this isn't a stereo and some distortion isn't uncommon for external speakers such as this. The fact that there's no distortion when it's played quietly, or even at a moderately loud level, is a miracle in and of itself when it comes to speakers like this, a lot of which sound like distorted garbage at any level, much less a loud one. The sound quality is fantastic, not flat or echoed, and really quite impressive.
On my player, playing a song heavy in bass, I had the speakers turned all the way up (they have a volume control independent of your player, which is helpful for fine-tuning the quality of the sound being put out) and my volume control set to 13 (out of 20) with no distortion, some distortion at 14, and moderate distortion at 16-17. When I turned my player's volume to 20 (very distorted), but turned down the speakers to a point where I could hear no distortion, it was still louder than when I had the speakers turned all the way up with my player's volume at 13. When I played acoustic music, I could have both the speakers and my player as loud as they could handle with almost no distortion.
The volume on that is quite loud, loud enough to need to speak louder than normal voice to get heard in a room where it's playing. If you need to go louder than that, well, that's not what these are made for, and you're better off buying a cable to connect your MP3 player to your stereo.
Overall, this is a great unit and a great value, and I highly recommend them. I wouldn't pay $90 for it (since that's apparently the list price), but since you can find it everywhere from here to Wal*Mart to Best Buy for $29-$40, you shouldn't have to.
$40 Well Spent.......2006-09-11
Wow...reading the other reviews gave me pause.
If you expect miraculous sound from a speaker that costs $40, look someplace else and let me know because come on.
For $40 this small speaker is handy and sounds fine to me. If you turn it on full blast, yes, it's distorted, but it's quite good at moderate levels. It actually sounds better as it breaks in. I doubt audiophiles would bother with it, but it delivers a lot for its cheap price.

Customer Reviews:
Almost perfect. Definitely worth a look.......2007-06-07
The good:
Speakers are awesome for their size. Decent bass and the stereo enhancement is a nice touch that widens the soundstage somewhat (needed for any speaker where the left and right channels are so close together)
Battery life is excellent. I have been running for hours on the first set, so I have no idea how long they really last but so far, so good.
The power adapter includes both US and European plugs, and is compatible with worldwide voltage.
Has a "Line-In" port so you can use a portable DVD player, laptop, etc. These speakers sound better than almost every laptop and portable DVD player I've ever used, so this is an ideal second use for them. Also has a "Subwoofer Out" port (i doubt anyone will ever use this), and an AV Out port so you can plug your iPod Video into a TV with the included cables.
The power switch is in fact a switch and is flush with the top of the unit so it's very hard to accidentally turn the speakers on while they're bouncing around your luggage. You will also find volume, mute, and sound enhancement buttons on the top of the TravelSound. It will stand upright on a desk thanks to a retractable support.
The remote is a nice touch, and gives you volume, mute, play/pause, prev/next track and full navigational control over the iPod (using up/down buttons in place of the click wheel).
The Bad:
Cloth speaker grilles were a very poor choice for a travel speaker. I see these getting torn or otherwise damaged very quickly. Metal mesh would have been more appropriate for better durability, given the product's intended use. The cloth provides absolutely no protection against something in your bag stabbing the speaker drivers. Stupid move, Creative. If you're worried about damage, I'd strongly suggest placing a piece of cardboard in front of the speakers while they're in the travel bag.
While the unit uses the standard iPod dock connector, the USB pass-through connector on the back is standard mini-USB. Would have been nice of them to use a female iPod dock connector instead (like the Apple docking stations) so I don't have to carry around yet another cable.
There's nowhere to store the credit-card remote. A clip, slot, or SOMETHING on the TravelSound itself to stash the remote would have been nice. I recommend using some adhesive Velcro to attach the remote to the back of the TravelSound so you don't lose it.
The prongs on the power adapter are removable so you can attach the European plug, but they are not retractable and take up a lot of space. The power adapter itself is somewhat large given its purpose.
Summary:
The TravelSound i is a great set of portable iPod speakers, but they are mostly suited to light travel use due to the fragile cloth speaker covers. They would be perfectly at home in an office or for occasional use at the beach, picnic, boat, etc. I would not recommend these for heavy outdoor use at all.
Small package, big sound!.......2007-05-22
I'm not really a techy person but I just wanted to share my opinion on this awesome little product from Cambridge SoundWorks. The TravelSound i is everything you'd expect from a portable travel speaker for your iPod: it's small, light and the sound is plenty big enough to fill a hotel room. It's extremely easy to use. I didn't even have to consult the manual (and coming from me, that's saying a lot!) The battery life is incredible and I love that it charges my iPod while it's running on AC power. Overall, this is a very nice product. I highly recommend it to anyone considering a portable speaker for the iPod!

Customer Reviews:
Incredible sound from such a small package.......2006-11-10
Phenomenal sound from such a small package. Get rechargeable batteries,
however, and you'll go all day and most of the evening on a single charge.
A little tinny on high volume settings, otherwise, solid value for the cash.
Buy the I300 as the 200 has no charger with it......
Ok, but depends on how you use them...........2006-01-21
First, the negatives:
1) There are no grills on the speaker cones (other reviews have mentioned this). It would be easy to damage the speakers, but if you're generally careful, this isn't a big issue.
2) The carrying case does not fit the AC adapter. This means that the speakers can go in the carrying case, but the AC adapter is loose. Of course, if you only use battery power, this is not an issue.
3) The maximum volume before (bass) distortion isn't that great. This is a debateable point, but it really depends on what kind of music you listen to and how you intend to use the speakers.
For my purposes (I'm a musician), I could not increase the volume very loud before the bass distortion kicked in. I could get a bit more volume by turning the bass way down, but not much. Even as a general-purpose boom-box, I'd say that the max volume attainable is only average, about like your typical small clock radio -- not even close to my Sony CD-playing boom-box. I only make this comparison so that potential buyers realize that these speakers do not compare to jambox-type devices.
If you just need some music in a hotel room or in a relatively quiet place, it should be ok. The sound quality at low volume is decent, but I can't really recommend it for a wide variety of usage.
I give it three stars for the overall design and usage potential. It seems to me that they could have put more thought into the overall design and even made them a bit bigger to accomodate some more volume.
Clear Quality Sound - Love Em'.......2005-12-29
Yeah - and I mean it. I also own the Sony SRS-T88 and did not realize how crappy they were till I was presented with the i300.
The i300 is reasonably loud, room filling sound. But the best part is that the sound quality is pretty good - you get some bass, the mid-range is clean and the treble is clear. For its size, the sound quality is pretty good. If you can equalize a bit, its sound quality might even blow you away.
Others who have heared the speakers I own have been impressed - commenting on the clarity of sound.
While most speakers out there use el-cheapo aluminium drivers, Creative uses titanium ones (so they claim). I don't know if this has anything to do with the sound quality. They also claim to use a digital amp - and if true - that is the way to go for long long battery life.
Would I have wanted some additional features? yeah - Bass and Treble Controls.. Why not go all the way? It costs little to implement and can really perk up the sound on small speaks.
Bye Bye Sony... Hello Creative... Thanks for designing a nice product.
Now to look for a deal on a Zen Sleek!
Nice little gadget!.......2005-11-28
These speakers are great for the common traveller and have great clean music. the only reason I did not give this 5 stars is because it doesn;t fofill the height of volume I wished. It is pretty loud, but I like really loud. I do not own this but one of my friends does I hoe to get logi3 i station for my ippod it seems awsome according to the reviews.
Active speakers for amazing sound.......2005-11-23
This stereo speaker set ist wonderful! If travelling lightly and still offers an amazing sound quality. When you're looking for a solution to take on a trip, this it the one to go for. It is a set with active speakers, thus the volume is not a problem, and for listening to music in any size of room is easily possible. You will not use this for a disco or a party, of course, but for travelling and listening to music, this is the best solution.

Product Description
Creative TravelSound is the palm-sized, fold-away, single-unit stereo sound stage for people on the move. Built around two slim titanium drivers for a low profile and high-quality output, with a digital amplifier for in-depth impact and long battery life, Creative TravelSound is a superb solution for people who demand an enhanced listening experience with sound sources like Creative Jukebox or other portable devices such as MiniDisc, CD or tape players, or notebook PCs. To ensure the best in high-impact audio, TravelSound incorporates a "wide effect" feature for improved stereo effects and fantastic all-round audio quality.
Amazon.com Product Description
Creative Labs' TravelSound MP3 portable music player is an all-in-one MP3 player, voice recorder, and portable storage device with twin 1-inch Titanium micro drivers--no headphones required (though you can add your own if you wish). Compact, lightweight, and versatile, the device is perfect for mobile executives, students, or homemakers. Its clear sound and flexible uses make it ideal for business presentations or simply augmenting a leisure picnic in park.
As an MP3 music player (compatible with 32 to 320 kbps files), the TravelSound MP3 offers 32 MB built-in memory that lets you store and play up to an hour of your favorite music. It also offers a SmartMedia reader compatible with cards offering up to 128 MB, providing an additional 4 hours of music. You can also use the unit as a portable storage device to transport audio and data files.
The 2 built-in titanium drivers are firm and lightweight for optimal clarity and accuracy. The unit's tiny digital amplifier requires only a third the power of conventional linear amplifiers, resulting in great sound and extended battery life.
Conventional linear amplifiers are normally less efficient and require more power to deliver the audio output. This extra power is generated as heat, requiring heat sinks to dissipate it. And this means larger speakers. The TravelSound's efficient digital amplifier requires less power to produce a given audio output. This means less heat and therefore a smaller enclosure and longer battery life.
You'll enjoy up to 12 hours of listening to your favorite MP3 music on 4 alkaline batteries (supplied) or up to 20 hours playback using direct line-in amplification. At the press of a button, a wide effect expands the perceived soundstage produced by the 6-inch wide device.
Use the built-in microphone as your convenient recorder for interviews, lectures, or personal notes, with up to 2 hours of recording on one set of batteries.
It's a snap to transfer digital music and other files between your PC and the TravelSound MP3. Hook it up via USB 1.1 and the TravelSound shows up as an additional drive on your desktop to which you can conveniently move (and extract) files at up to 12 Mbps.
Store and protect your TravelSound MP3 with the included carrying case, and power it using the supplied batteries or an optional universal power adapter (sold separately).
What's in the Box
TravelSound MP3 player, quick-start guide, an installation CD, 4 AAA batteries, a carrying case, USB cable, and a stereo analog .125-inch minijack-to-minijack interconnect.
Customer Reviews:
shippers should check the package before sending.......2005-12-27
i ordered this item for a gift. it arrived in time, but the plastic surrounding the item was all cracked up, there were no batteries. the ad says batteries were included. we were unable to use the gift when opened because there were no batteries in the package. I would have purchased batteries before hand if i would have known you were going to forget to send the ones i paid for. i had to use my gas and Chrismas day to find a store open that carried those size batteries. shame on the shipper that sent a broken up item, with batteries missing.
Small speakers with big sound.......2005-03-18
When these speakers arrived they were smaller than I was thinking. Fortunately the sound they output totally surprised me. The line-in allows you to play music from iPods, walkmans, anything with a headphonejack. I'm glad I bought the model with 32mb built in; I also puchased a cheap 128mb card that always remains in the speakers. While this isn't a ton of storage for songs, it's still comes in handy when you want to listen to your favorite songs and don't have a music source on hand.
If you are looking for speakers exclusively for the iPod there are other options out there, for around the same cost, which have a "dock" just for the ipod (iMotion series)
Overall I'm very pleased with this purchase and would recommend to others.
Not what I thought I was getting.......2005-01-26
I got this particular unit because of the embedded recorder and media reader. I have a voice recorder that I'm not crazy about because I dont love its proprietary file transfer software. With the TravelSound I thought, hey cool, I can stick in a memory card and have as much recording capacity as I want.
Not true -- you can't record to the card. Only to the 32meg of memory. So now instead of being able to pop the card and take my notes with me to some device that can generically read them, I have yet another device that I have to cable directly to my PC. I'd much rather leave the unit itself in my laptop bag and just stick the card in my pocket. The unit may be fairly small (though well over double the size of an ipod), but once you factor in the cables and such it's just a big inconvenience.
My sounds are apparently not going to be travelling with me the way I thought they would.
Travel Sound MP3 Player with 32 MB Memory.......2004-12-31
These are fantastic speakers. The quality of sound compared to the size is simply incredible, and I'm speaking as someone who once did Sonar in the Navy. I listen to it at the office with the speakers set up in front of the monitor (no problem) as it plays either direct from an attached MP3 player or from it's own memory. They are about the size of a campbells soup can but at 1 1/2 times the height, easy to travel with. The sound fidelity and reproduction is astonishing. It won't fill a room, but it will fill your face if you set it on your desk and just listen. Simply superb.
My only complaint is with the installation software. Very slow and confusing, I am a programmer but I messed it up. Don't accidentally plug the unit into your XP system before installation is finished and you have rebooted, you will never be able to read the player from your main user ID. I wound up making a special "MusicMan" ID, sharing my music files and rebuilding all my playlists just for the sake of copying music to the player.
Great for sound in your pocket.......2004-06-14
I was looking for an active speaker system that would fit in my pants pocket and produce enough sound to practice dancing. I purchased 3 units to try - the Creative TravelSound MP3, the Sony SRS288 and the Panasonic RR-SPT70. After thorough testing, I've decided to keep the TravelSound and return the others. For me, the most important feature is that it fits well into my pants pocket and can connect to a sound source in my shirt pocket, such as my Palm Tungsten T3 (MP3 player) or Sony NetMD player. I rejected the Sony because it had a 16 inch cord, which was too short for pants with deep pockets. The others had 22 inch cords, which was adequate. I rejected the Panasonic because it was too long for my pants pocket when unfolded, and too fat when folded. The TravelSound fits into my pants pocket the best. Some other advantages of the TravelSound are (1) it doesn't have a grill over the speakers, which the others have. Hence, I can clean out grit that would get behind the grill of the other speakers. (2) At high volume the sound is less distorted that the Panasonic. (3) Although the MP3 player is a plus, it really needs an LCD screen. I control what I play using the Pocket Tunes MP3 player in my Palm, or from my MD player. Nevertheless, I still use the TravelSound's MP3 player for my favorites. One caviat, anyone planning to run the speakers from house current needs to be concerned about hum (reported by other reviewers). Since the TravelSound doesn't come with a power supply, to use house current, you should either get the power supply from Creative (sold separately), or get the Sony, which comes with a power supply that can be used world wide. If you buy a cheap power supply, it probably won't have enough filtering, and you'll get AC hum. The Sony has no hum when run from its power supply. I haven't tested Creative's power supply. With the TravelSound, I'm now a "walking boombox", and there is enough sound to fill a small room that allows several couples to dance along with us. This is a really great way to share music.

Customer Reviews:
Surprising Sound!.......2004-04-21
The Creative Labs TravelSound MP3 has surprisingly good sound for such a little unit. It's a "palm-sized" one-piece stereo speaker system, little larger than an eyeglass case (WxHxD 6" x 2" x 2.5") but the sound is nearly as good as a small boombox. This unit does a great job in smaller rooms but you'll be disappointed if you try to fill a large room with sound. You do lose most of the low end so the bass is a little anemic. But the mid-range and the high end are crisp and clean.
You can hook up your portable electronic audio equipment like your CD/MP3 player, portable DVD player, even your laptop computer but being able to download MP3/WMA files directly to the unit is a definite PLUS.
It is a little $$$ but it is still a good value. I recommend it to anyone who travels a lot but likes to have decent tunes in their hotel room.
