Excellent product : Creative Zen Vision W.......2007-09-21
I looked first at the ipod due to its popularity , but found this player during my searches on Amazon. The player looks attractive and yes its big. I did not find the size uncomfortable, it can be easily taken on travel journeys , though not as a pocket companion (probably fits better in a laptop bag)
The best part of-course is the screen , thats what you notice first. No other player I have seen matches the screen that this has. Therefore this becomes a primary Video Player , and is not best suited for music etc use.
Having said that , you can store tons of video , music and pictures. I found the music out of headphones quite good , but the speakers on the player are not loud and dont give good beats. Additionally the FM Radio only works with headphones (since it uses the headphones as antenna). Also i would have expected the music player software to be a little more jazzy (showing some graphics when the music plays). It simply shows the name of the song as of now. Video playback is excellent and controls are adequate and easy to operate. FM Channel search is not 100% , it misses some of the FM channels, which can be manually set. The photo's can be stored in folders , and album format. One can view photos , rotate them , zoom in etc. Quite basic controls for the photo section.
I would have loved a Touch screen here , also i would have appreciated a docking station. Both of these are missing. The keys on the main player , are OK , but not too comfortable for my fingers.
All in all , i like this player. Quite a good player , and yes , it certainly matches upto the ipod.
Awesome product. .......2007-09-17
I just bought this used off e-bay, but in new condition. I love it! I didn't want to get an ipod, just cause my friends have had trouble with their video ipods, and I never really liked the ipod... This is so much more of a media player. Uploading is so easy and the display is clear, great for watching movies while on the plane or on a long car ride. Theres so many more features than the ipod, like the radio, and it has the nice widescreen and internal speaker so you can listen to things without headphones. I think it's a great product for the price, I got mine for 195. Definately worth the money. No regrets here.
I like it, mostly.......2007-09-12
Pros: The large screen is nice because I have a lot of pictures to show off. It's bigger and heavier than the competition, but I like this. (Whether or not it's true, it seems more robust to me.) It plays multiple music formats, which is a big plus. It has a removable battery. It's not an Ipod.
Cons: Accessing photos is slow and cumbersome. It will not play Quicktime videos, and the included video conversion software doesn't work. Accessories are very scarce. The included headphones are junk.
Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase. I would buy it again. I'm not a child and I don't need hip electronic toys. This is a useful and fun device for me to enjoy and share with my friends and family, not a statement of my coolness.
Exceeds my expectations.......2007-08-28
I bought the Zen Vision W primarily to download movies to the device and watch them through my regular television or while traveling. It works flawlessly. The screen is gorgeous. I cannot believe the quality for a 4.3 inch display. It's very similar to the PSP.
The video quality through the television is much better than I had expected. It looks better than my video iPod. I can see no difference between this and a DVD.
The battery life is excellent. I watched a 2.5 hour movie, with some pausing, and still had at least half of the battery life left.
The menu is intuitive. It did not take more than a couple of minutes to figure out how to navigate through the menus.
My only real complaint is that you apparently cannot have the device plugged into AC power when it is hooked up to the television. It causes the video signal to be scrambled. But given the low battery usage while watching videos, it's not a problem. You could probably watch two full length movies on a single charge of the battery.
A complaint I would direct at Amazon is that you cannot transfer rented movies from Unbox to the ZVW (or any other device, for that matter). This is not clearly spelled out when signing up for Unbox.
Creative Zen Vision W.......2007-08-12
This is totally better than an iPod for viewing videos. Easy to use, great sound and awesome picture. I have loaded 3,000 songs and at least 10 rock concert videos with all the extras and still have over 8 Gb left.

Amazon.com Review
In its own right, the Creative Zen Vision:M is a very capable digital audio player, video player, photo viewer, FM radio, and more. Indeed, one could go on and on about how it has the right specifications to make it a constant companion for entertainment on the go. The really big news about this device, though, is that it's the first device to boast complete compatibility with Amazon Unbox, the new digital video and music download service from Amazon.com.
The Zen Vision:M has the features, ease-of-use, and power to become your constant media companion. See the Vison:M interactive demo.
Design Let's get things out in the open. The Apple iPod is the 800-pound gorilla when it comes to the digital media player business and, unavoidably, every other device is measured against it. In most respects, the Vision:M matches up pretty well, and there are few things you may even like better. Length and width dimensions are exactly the same at 4.1 and 2.4 inches respectively. When it comes to girth, though, the iPod has the Vision:M beat; the Vision:M is .7 inches thick, while the iPod measures .4 inches. The Vision:M is slightly heavier, too. These details aside, the Vision:M feels comfortable, yet sturdy, in the hand, with curved surfaces in all the right places.
Creative takes a somewhat different approach with the Vision:M's controls, answering the iPod's Click Wheel with a vertical touch pad--which allows you to scroll up and down menus and control volume--plus four buttons that offer navigation through the user interface. The contextual menu button on the bottom right is a welcome addition, allowing you to make quick settings changes and view information about media files on the fly--functions that are more cumbersome on an iPod. Creative could have made the buttons a bit more sensitive--they require a firm press that gives an overall feeling of clunkiness to an otherwise well-designed user interface. Another annoyance is the touch pad's over-sensitivity; it's easy to make selections unintentionally, sending you on a wild ride through the user interface.
The Vision:M's screen, which measures 2.5 inches diagonally, offers sharp details, vibrant color, and excellent response with little or no video ghosting during high-action sequences. The 320 x 240 resolution is to be expected from a device this size, and although it's small, you'll likely have no trouble enjoying video while you're sitting on the subway or a flight, or in the back-seat of a car. Our only nitpick was the screen's less than stellar viewing angle, especially when compared side-by-side with a video iPod. While this can be good for maintaining privacy, the narrow viewing angle also means that friends beside you will struggle to see anything other than a black screen.
Music, Videos, Photos, and More The Vision:M's music organization scheme is standard fare; you can browse playlists, artists, tracks, albums, and genres. Equalizer settings are robust, with a nice range of automatic settings, plus a custom equalizer that's easy to control. The music library's "DJ" function is a nice touch, allowing you to listen to your most popular tracks. It can also pull up the tunes you listen to least frequently--in case you've got some forgotten tunes lying around on the Vision:M's 30 GB hard drive. Sound quality is everything you'd expect from a top shelf digital audio player, and DRM'd Windows Media files played without a hitch. The device fully supports a whole range of "PlaysForSure" download and subscription services, such as Napster and Yahoo Music. Creative also ships a CD-ripping and music transfer application called MediaSource with the Vision:M.
Playback of Windows Media DRM'd video files (WMV9) was also hassle-free. Purchased videos delivered crisp colors and detail, with no frame drops. Video playback consumes a lot of power, bringing Creative's claim of four hours of video playback into serious doubt. Expect under three hours when watching videos continuously. Thankfully, if you need to come back to your video later the Vision:M's software remembers the timecode of where you left off--unless you power the device down between viewing sessions. In addition to protected and unprotected WMV files, the Vision:M can play MPEG 1/2/4, Motion-JPEG, DivX 4 and 5, and XviD formats, making it a very flexible device with respect to encoding options.
The Vision:M can also store thousands of photos, letting you browse through them or set up a slideshow. The device's TV-out option comes in handy here, as you can present slideshows on a TV or projector. Videos can be displayed this way, too. An FM radio with easy preset tuning functions and great signal reception, plus a voice recorder feature, round out the extra media features. There's also a handy application on the Vision:M that formats a portion of the drive for use as USB 2.0 mass storage, letting you set aside up to 16 GB for data storage.
Connectivity and Synchronization A Creative Sync Adapter ships in the box with the Vision:M, making it a snap to connect the device to a USB 2.0-capable PC. With the connection made, Windows XP recognized the device right off the bat and Windows Media Player immediately asked us if we wanted to load the PC's music onto the Vision:M. Music management and synchronization has come a long way on the PC, and the experience of organizing and transferring music to and from the Vision:M was, barring a few curious click-through boxes, pretty seamless. The Vision:M also supports synchronization of your Outlook contacts, calendar, and tasks, in case you want to use it as a personal organizer of sorts.
Amazon Unbox Integration To be truly successful, the Vision:M has to be more than a great media device, it has to integrate with Amazon Unbox and make the process feel like second nature. Although the Vision:M was tested using a beta version of Amazon Unbox, things are looking good already. Amazon Unbox and the Vision:M go together like peas in a pod, making the process of purchasing, downloading, and enjoying content on the go a real cinch. The Amazon Unbox Video Player, which queues, downloads, organizes, and plays your purchased movies and TV shows, recognized the Vision:M right off the bat. An icon for the Vision:M appears in the devices panel of the application, and you can immediately begin transferring downloaded content to the device. Once you're all loaded up, the Vision:M offers a great way to bring Amazon Unbox entertainment along for the ride.
Pros
Crisp, vibrant color screen is great for video
Generous video format compatibility
Excellent sound quality and music management functions
Cons
Narrow screen viewing angle may be a problem for some
Finicky controls for some functions
Slightly more bulky than other competitors
What's in the Box Creative ZEN Vision:M, earphones, Sync Adapter, USB 2.0 cable, pouch, user's guide, and installation CD that includes Creative MediaSource and Creative Media Explorer software. Note: As of July 2006 Creative no longer ships the Zen M with the AC power adapter.

Great!.......2007-09-22
This works great- software, everything! Didn't know that I needed 3rd party software to copy DVD to computer before I could put it on the Zen- they don't tell you that until you call them for help. The recording feature off FM works great too- picks up good reception.
Dont Buy This Item!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Get an Ipod.......2007-09-19
I bought this item a year ago and i greatly regret it.You have to go to different web sites to get videos and music. With ipods everything you need is in one spot. Both of my two sisters have video ipods and so do all of my friends and i with that i was one of them. Also i have to constily buy new Sync Adapters just to charge or download anything.Nether of my sisters or friends have this problem.Spend you money on something that people from 6-99 will love, the ipod.

I love this, superior to the 30G iPod in many ways........2007-09-13
I would say the Zen Vision:M is the iPod's closest competitor.
I have been very happy with this since I got it. It is slightly thicker than the 30G iPod, but that does not bother me. The height and width are the same.
The screen of the Zen Vision:M is absolutely GORGEOUS! Much better than I even expected. It is wonderful for watching video. Not only is this screen more detailed and colorful than the iPod, but the video battery life is longer.
If you are familiar with the iPod, you will learn this menu system very quickly. I like the built in FM Tuner, which the iPod does not have.
Also, the Zen has greater compatibility with file types and online music stores. It's nice not to be locked into iTunes.
Transfering video and music is easy. It even has audiobook support, which I use a lot with downloads from Audible.com.
The navigation system (the buttons and the touch pad) are a bit tricky at first. But play around with it for a few minutes and you'll get the hang of it.
Overall, I am very happy with this, and with the great capacity (30GB is plenty for me), I don't think I will be needing to purchase another music player for a long time. The Zen Vision: M has everything I need.
Creative Zen .......2007-09-10
The Creative Zen works great. I love everything about it. I can listen to the radio, my favorite tune or look through my photo gallery. I like all the features and highly recommend this product.
Great, great product........2007-09-08
This is an amazing product. I have had it for at least 6 months now, and so far, there are absolutly no problems with it whatsoever. I love my Zen, and it is a much better product than an iPod video. The only problem with it, is if you are switching from an iPod to the Zen... becuase of DRM'd music, and Apple trying to lock you in with the iPod, any bought songs off of iTunes won't work with your Zen. This obviously is not a flaw with the Zen, its Apple being Apple.

Customer Reviews:
Great Amazon & Creative support!.......2007-07-05
The player does all that it says. But everyone's worst nightmare is getting a bad one out of the box, which happened to me. I called Creative support and the helped me confirm the hard drive was defective. Then I told Amazon and in 5 minutes had a prepaid return label and a new player within the week. That is great in anyone's book. Still getting used to the player, but it works great!
Good product for the price.......2007-03-30
Pros:
A lot of features such as Video Playback, MP3, Organizer, Alarm Clock, Voice Recorder, FM Tuner. Using their software is basically like opening up explorer in Windows. Resolution and sound quality are nice. Having buttons instead of a touch pad allows for more precise control. Removable battery pack is nice. There is an additional extended battery pack available for purchase. Has a speaker so you can blast ghetto music in a fancy restaurant if you'd like. Can take a CompactFlash card to transfer data. Many other fun features.
Cons:
OMG is it HUGE!!! I honestly wasn't expecting it to be THAT big. I thought "hm... maybe a little bit bigger than the Zen Vision M...?" This thing is almost the exact same size as my Nintendo DS! I just can't get over how HUGE it is. It's a bit of a turn off for those who might want to use it to exercise and walk around with. Think super old school Walkman but significantly heavier! When the delivery guy dropped it off, I was shocked that the box was so HUGE!! I thought they had sent me the wrong item! And then I opened it...!!! I was almost repulsed by how prehistoric it looked!
More cons... The thing LAGS. It definitely doesn't operate nearly as fast as the iPod when switching menus. I guess that's because of all the things it offers. It does get to be a little bit tedious and frustrating.
Even more cons... Lack of accessories. I guess I probably won't need a toughskin or protector for this thing, because if I drop it, it'll damage whatever it lands on, purely by its size.
Overall, as far as the functions of this player are concerned, I'm happy with it. However, I'm still trying to get over the ridiculous size of the thing. Do I dare bring it out in public? What would my friends say? Would people stare?! I highly suspect that they will laugh.
Oh well... I guess I was really only going to use it to play music in the car. I must remember to hide it in the glove box before I let any passengers in the car.
Creative Zen Vision 30 GB Multimedia Player (white) .......2007-03-12
I just love my Multimedia Player. I can play songs, listen to books and store pictures to carry around with me. The screen is big and sharp so you can see pictures very well. I have not tried to play videos on it yet and I have not had any problems so I don't have any complaints.
Perfect.......2007-03-11
I was a little concerned about buying this item by the Internet, but everything was really easy and the service was perfect. The items arrived in very good conditions and on time. Wonderful service!
Good product.......2007-01-14
Have had this for almost a year now.
Pros:
The battery life is good.
FM radio and recording.
Video out.
Removable battery
Can also double as a portable hard disk for photos during travel (bought the flash card adapter for SD card use)
Cons:
The video angle can get irritating as you have to look straight at it but when (if) found, its very good (but not as good as PSP)
I would recommend this over the iPod as I've used both. Its also easier (and MUCH faster) to transfer videos to the Zen than to the iPod.
