Wasted Tape.......2007-09-25

The P-touch is capable of making labels, however, it's extremely frustrating to continue buying expensive tape for this label-maker, only to have to cut an inch of tape each time I print a label. I called the manufacturer in the hopes that I didn't set the machine properly but had an extremely frustrating conversation with their "customer service" representative who explained (not so patiently) that it is not a design flaw. The manufacturer intended for the machine to create an inch of lead in tape each time you print out a label. She acknowledged that they log calls EVERY day complaining about the wasted tape but insists they cannot do anything about it. Given the low cost of the machine, the real money-maker is in the cost of the tape itself so cutting off an inch of tape each time you use the machine tends to add up in wasted money. If I had known about this problem earlier, I would not have bought this machine.

my complaint is the cost of the Tz tapes and the amount of tape it waste on each print. I've gotten to the point I setup multiple labels to print all at once and then cut into individual labels. It would be nice to have an AC adapter for the unit included with the labeler and smaller font for 3 line printing but the print is excellent and there are enough options in the fonts and layouts. I rated it a 3 because of the amount of wasted tape and the cost of the tape itself. (Can you say OEM? :D)

font size stuck ridiculously small.......2006-10-02

Mine worked pretty well for about the first 50 labels that I made. Then the font size got stuck ridiculously small so that the message only covers about 10 percent of the tape surface. If you want really small labels with a hard-to-read font size, you could use my PT-1750 to print them out and then cut down with scissors to eliminate all of the wasted label area.

Wastes Tape, wastes tape, wastes tape!.......2006-08-05

This thing wastes so much tape it is ridiculous. Don't buy this or you'll be kicking yourself after you realize how much tape it wastes and the price of the tape.

I really loved this machine as stated in some other reviews. It was so great for so many labeling uses. However, at some point it started to eat the tape coming out of the cassette. Once it starts to do that to a cassette, there is no repair to it; the cassette is completely unusable. I have tried everything I can think of to fix cassettes that have started to do this. As so many have stated, the tape cassettes are really expensive. I have had this machine eat really new cassettes that I have just started to use, and at more than $20 per casette, that is way unacceptable. This is actually the SECOND machine of these that I have bought that has done this. I am going to ditch both of them and look for one by another maker.
