Worthless.......2005-05-20
I received one of these as a birthday present from my sister (a couple years ago) and it's proven to be a waste of my time and my sister's money. The warranty was no help at all, as the nature of any warranty is a guarantee that the company will help with problems, not a guarantee that the company will actually solve the problems. The tech support consisted primarily of these two ideas: 1. Charge the battery, and 2. Reformat the hard drive. Sadly, neither worked. The product worked for at most a few minutes at a time before freezing up or some other such problem. Most of the time, turning the unit off and then on again did not help.
The mp3 player always had problems, no matter what tech support suggested I do (repeatedly). They provided support during the product's warranty period, and then the warranty expired and I was left with a product that still didn't work. They refuse to take it back and provide a refund.
The fact that this product is bulky and slow (USB1.1) wouldn't bother me if it was a bulky and slow 10GB mp3 player. What makes me feel lied to is the fact that this product is a bulky, $250 paperweight.
Waste of Money.......2003-11-11
I purchased this for my son when this was a new item. There had been nothing but trouble with this ever since. The unit shuts itself down before the battery is dead and then the unit doesn't turn itself off! Finally, it has the equivalent of hard drive crashes once every 5 times you use it. Save your money and buy something else. Finally, like some other reviewers stated, they do not own up to their warranty.
Something Special You Can't Find Elsewhere.......2003-08-30
This is not the most advanced Jukebox on the market, in fact it's probably one of the oldest ones available. It's also known as the Neo II but is exactly the same player. It's big, too big to carry like an iPod and the battery will last 6 hours if you are lucky.
Here's the part that I find amazing. First: The sound quality is very good and Second: This player has the most wonderful shuttle capability that I've ever seen!
Here's how I use it: I immediately removed the 10 gig drive, it's as easy as sliding off the removable cover and then slipping the drive out. I replaced it with a (formatted) 40 gig drive and loaded it to the max. Then, I turned it on and selected "Rand All" with the program button and it sits on my desk, pumping wonderful music into my Bose table radio all day long! I never hear a duplicate, the device never fails and it responds instantly when you press "pause" on the wireless remote (included) should a phone call interrupt my flow.
Yes, I have traveled with it; It's been to West Africa and Europe, it's been on countless flights criss-crossing the US and on a plane, driving my Bose noise-cancellation headphones, there's nothing but bliss.
It's been retired to my desk because I do carry an iPod now when I travel but sometimes I still take the Roq-It because the display is so big and beautiful, so much bigger than any other MP3 Jukebox out there.
So depending on what you need it for, this jewel is "the bomb" if you aren't focused on size or battery life - particularly for the price. It's been dependable but there may not be support since it is discontinued.

This is the worst electronic equipment I have ever invested in, this player had bugs and defects packed into it right out of the factory, it is hardly surprising that DLink decided to discontinue the production of this unit. What adds insult to injury is that instead of owning up to their obligation to provide care within the warranty period, DLink customer service is playing games to claim that the warranty is void. This is a sheer case of shrugging any responsibility. As a paying customer I am totally dissatisfied with the product and the customer care(what makes me feel better, is that there are at least 3 other people who share my view and that means that DLink will find it extremely hard to survive in this world of customer delight)
NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM DLINK!!!a few dollars 25 more(competitive jukebox) is worth a functioning product..
Was nice when it worked.......2003-04-09
The first problem I encountered was a loose battery connection. I soldered the connection back on and it worked again. Then the power connection fell off, so I fixed that also. Now, after a year and a half after buying it, the unit is no longer functioning due to a 'partition' error. Tech support has no help for this problem, so I'm out $$$.
I'm giving this device 2 stars because when it was working, it had good sound quality (with separately purchased speakers) and was convenient.
Overall, there has got to be a similar mp3 player that is constructed better. I would NOT recommend buying this player.

I have used grid screens for many years (35yrs on staff at major newspaper) in all my camera bodies. It just makes life easier by helping my composition, and keeping my vertical & horizontal lines correct. Try it, you'll love it.
Canon Focusing Screen Ee-D a Must Have.......2006-11-05
If you're using any of Canon's "pro" SLR models that allow you to change the focusing screen (EOS 5D, 1Ds, etc.), this is a must buy. The focusing screen segments the view you see through the viewfinder into three horizontal and three vertical areas. This is really great to help you align things in a straight line or if you're following the rule of thirds.
In addition to the vertical and horizontal lines you see, you can still see the focusing points. This is a great upgrade that I would recommend for anybody, but especially for nature photographers where the rule of thirds is really the tried and true method of photography.

Business users BEWARE.......2007-05-26
My client had been using a TeraStation 1Tb as the main file server. It works as advertised, but after 18 months it died, the unit shut itself down and when we restarted it, it can no longer connect. Since it is out of warranty, Buffalo will do nothing for us, NOT EVEN SELL US A REPLACEMENT CORE. They offer no extended warranty, although the support supervisor was kind enough to call Austin HQ with the problem, they still won't budge. So if you are considering using this as the main file server, or any Buffalo product in a crirtical business application, BE WARNED.
Worth it in the end.......2005-12-12
I also had significant performance issues when I first installed this device. It was to be used to store movies (between 1-2gig each). When hooked to my Ethernet Switch, it would take over an hour per movie...WAY too slow for realistic use.
Well, long story short, I upgraded to a Gigabit switch...WOW. I can copy movies in under 3 minutes, not bad for an alomst 2gig file. As a test, I also hooked it via a crossover cable to my PC....just as fast.
Now that my speed problems are fixed, I couldn't be happier. Really is an awsome box if you can get the speed issues resolved.
Large amounts of space, easy enough to use, but SLOWWWWWW.......2005-11-08
The unit is very attractive. At raid 5, the unit has a capacity of around 1.2 TB. You can setup the system to use dhcpd or static ip once you connect to it using the provided utilities. Once you know the ip address of the system, you can configure the system's ip address, workgroup or domain, name of the system, password, users, groups, etc.
It comes default with two shares. \\terastation\info and \\terastation\share, info contains the pdf manual, the installation files for the utilities and the utilities themselves. The "share" share is available to everyone and requires no passwords, which is very insecure, but allows one to start copying stuff to it right off the bat.
The only way to copy stuff from or to it is from the network. You CANNOT attach it locally to your system via USB. The usb is apparently only for attaching external Hard drives to expand the unit or for printers.
Performance: Well, you'd think since it has gigabit, it would allow you to transfer at fast speeds. That is not the case. Our experience was that it would only copy at about 3-5 MB/s over gigabit, even after we attached the unit directly to the back of the computer with a cross over cable. Imagine if you're trying to move your current data from your current storage to this unit, it would take days to transfer 1 TB. Imagine if you wanted to back it up with your tape backup solution, it would take equally long. According to reviews ([...]), it reads faster than it writes, but not by much. I haven't tried copying off this system yet. We're actually going to move to 400GB ide drives in USB 2/firewire enclosures so we can get our data off our current storage and the stuff we've already copied to the NAS. It will then promptly get returned.
Conclusion: If you want large amounts of storage in a NAS box for extremely inexpensive $/GB, this is your solution. If you want speed, then this is certainly not for you.
I'd recommend the Maxtor OneTouch II 300GB or the new 500 gb solution coming out to do local backups. It connects locally to your computer via USB 2 and comes with retrospect backup software. The unit will allow you to keep your data safely backed up. That solution isn't RAID, but it's good to keep your data in two places, and the Maxtor's allow you to get an easy to use solution in place. You can also use it as a drive, like any attachable usb drive. (300 gb has a formatted capacity of 279 GB). Perfect if you own your own small business, work from home, and have no backup solution what-so-ever! At $300, what's your precious data worth? $300 at Fry's Electronics, Shop around! Maxtor has other neat products, check our their website.
