2 out of 5 stars Returned Unit.......2006-03-08

Returned unit. It would not play the over 200 DVDs I burned with my Nero software . I called customer support and talked with their engineer and he said the unit only supports burned DVDs burned with My Sonic.
It was a great unit , but did'nt fit my criteria. I hope the company updates to a fully compatible unit. Another weird thing is that boasts supporting Nero Recode but does'nt support Burned Nero DVDs.
The support line is very freindly .

5 out of 5 stars Great Product - Great Company.......2005-10-28

Best customer Service I've encountered in some time!

This product had more features than any other company and at a very good price.

Had a few questions and called their number and got one quick and responsive reply. Maybe because their in New Hampshire.

This DXP-100 plays em all - CD, DVD, MP3, MPEG, AVI, JPEG's and of course DIV-X.

Feature full and easy to use from the GITGO.

Highly recommend both player and Company.

5 out of 5 stars One Great Company and Player.......2005-10-14

I was having some trouble with my Avayon player after about 8 months and out of warranty so I called the company in New Hampshire and talked with this real nice guy who while we talked was already dispatching a new replacement to me. No questions asked!!! What a company!!! The player like everyone else says plays everything I put in it. No player I ever had comes close to this DXP-1000 from Avayon.com. They now sell the small portable type DVD player as well, and I will be getting one from them soon. Support this small American company. We need more like them.

5 out of 5 stars Buy this player! This is a great company!.......2005-09-08

I'm a bit short on time or I could go on forever about my experience with this company. First, I had a question about my machine and I called the company and someone answered right away. A real person who speaks English talked to me about my question. They knew the machine and were not reading a canned response off a computer screen. This person was located in the USA if you can believe it. It just so happened that someone from the company lived about an hour from me. He wanted to see how I was using the player and how it worked for me. Ok, you're going to think that this next thing is out of a Hollwood moive but it is absolutly true. THE GUY CAME TO MY HOUSE to help me with my player! This player plays anything I throw at it and is a quality unit. It is upgradeable too! Philips, Sony and RCA are all the same. They don't care if they put out products that don't work. These guys do. Buy one of these units and let's keep this kind of service going. It's very rare these days.

2 out of 5 stars Not for 16:9 tv's.......2005-07-11

I so wanted this player to work for me, it has a good de-interlacer and plays pretty much any video format you can think of. What it does not have is any kind of aspect ratio control for either DVD or other format video on a widescreen TV. The cheap Panasonic I was buying the Avayon to replace did this with ease. Divx and Xvid files of 16x9 video encoded at 640x368 that would probably look fine letterboxed on a 4x3 Tv, are stretched horizontally with black bars on the top and bottom of the screen. Most frustrating was when I sent an E-mail to Avayon's tech support to ask if there was some solution I had overlooked in the support materials, and got a response saying that my TV was set wrong(my tv does have aspect ratio control, but not with progressive scan). Also, the remote has an incredibly narrow field of effectiveness, and it wouldnt play files burned to TDK cd's from Costco, but all the other cd's I tried worked fine.

4 out of 5 stars Failures are probably power related.......2007-07-04

I bought a Philips DVP642 which failed after 4 months. The warranty was only 3 months. So I picked up a DXP1000. It failed after 16 months with a "no disk" error. But I think this was because of my erratic power. It failed right after my UPS failed. At the same time 2 DVD drives on my PC failed without the protection of the ups. It appears DVD drives and players are particularly sensitive to power irregularity. I bet many of the reviewers failures were caused by not using a UPS. I will order another Avayon. One advantage of the Avayon over the Philips is the switch in the back to disconnect the power. When my Philips failed they told me I should have been unplugging it when not in use.

3 out of 5 stars Worked for a while.......2007-05-09

It worked nicely for a while, but started acting up after a few months. I had to take the case off and reset the optical assembly. I think it somehow got off gear/track.

If you're looking to play a wide variety of formats from the net, you might look elsewhere. Avayon doesn't seem to be releasing new firmware to play formats like matroska, etc.

4 out of 5 stars Bought one refurbished for $39 - So far so good!.......2007-01-17

It does everything it is supposed to do. If you are playing files in formats other than DVD format you must make sure it is in Constant Bit Rate format, otherwise the audio and video will get out of sync and then you have to rewind and forward to sync again. The only problem I have had is with the remote. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.. I can fit up to 24 thirty minute episodes in xvid/divx format on one DVD disc. Another drawback is that the menu only allows you to see a limited number of characters. Other than that the unit works perfectly.

1 out of 5 stars Nero fails/Customer Service fails.......2006-07-08

I purchased this DVD player for its ability to play Nero video more than its ability to play DIVX. Although it claims to be able to do so, it does not do so correctly. Nero video is encoded at various speeds. Regardless of which speed a video is encoded at, this player fails to play it correctly -always too slow with the audio and video not synching correctly. The FAQs say to press FWD or RWD buttons to correct this but the problem remains. After numerous attempts to contact Avayon, both by phone and email, I now realize I've just blown $70. Other issues are that the DVD player itself is extremely noisey and the video is always magnified when a disc first plays. It has been less than 2 months since I've ordered this device (5/12/06). It took about 7 days to arrive, another week spent trying to troubleshoot things, and now 3 weeks of trying to get hold of Avayon. Based on the poor quality of the product and the complete lack of support, the DXP1000 wouldn't be worth the purchase even at a quarter of the price. UPDATE 7/27/06: Avayon finally contacted me and sent a replacement unit. Apparently, you cannot play Nero video if it's encoded with 5.1 surround sound. Switched to DIVX for everything I want 5.1 sound from. There is nothing in any of the Avayon advertising that expresses limitations with the Nero video. There is also no possibility of an upgrade that will fix this issue because the problem is with the chipset Avayon players use. Once I spoke with customer service, I feel that the future of Avayon is good but they need to communicate the details of their merchandise better and the speed of their customer service responses needs to improve.

1 out of 5 stars Works fine for a while then NO DISC forever!.......2006-06-12

This DVD player worked great for about 6 months but now it says NO DISC for any DVD, production or created, MP3 , audio, anything. Now it goes into the bin. Buy a better player, not worth US $ 70 for the short time it works.

Purchased for my Tablet PC. Worked great for about two weeks, then suddenly had problems accessing any discs. Went through the hassle of getting an RMA from Buslink, within a week they had a replacement. This one worked fine for about two months, then it started doing the exact same thing the first one did. Dumped it for a Sony model that's been trouble free so far.

It is a combo DVD and CD writer that allows you to record home movies, music CDs, other CDs, and backup important files with unsurpassed reliability. Simply do it all, with BUSlink's USB 2.0 DVD+RW Drive. The BUSlink's USB 2.0 is a dramatic performance increase over the standard USB 1.1. Whereas USB 1.1 is only 12Mbits/s, the new USB 2.0 Hi-Speed specification used by the BUSlink USB 2.0 runs at up to 480Mbits/s. USB, standing for "Universal Serial Bus", allows you to attach up to 128 devices simultaneously with automatic device detection and installation.Since USB 2.0 Hi-Speed is an evolution of the existing USB 1.1 specification, it is fully backward compatible with current USB systems and peripherals. Even with the dramatically increased speeds, it works with existing cables and connectors. In other words, consumers will have the benefit of using devices they already have, so their investments are protected.

4 out of 5 stars It works great on my desktop!.......2004-03-27

I have had mine for over a week now and so far, I can say that this is definately a quality burner if you have a usb 2.0 port. Unfortunately, most laptops including my own only have a usb 1.1 port so it works so incredibly slow that it is not worth using. So, it looks like I have to purchase a usb 2.0 cardbus adapter for my laptop. Oh well... I then hooked it up to my desktop which does have a usb 2.0 port and it works flawlessly. Setup was easy and I had no problems.(...) This is definately a great investment b/c it burns dvd+r's at a lightening 8x which will be very nice when they come out with discs that can be burned that fast. In summary, a great product that is easy to install and even easier to use.

1 out of 5 stars Belkin Bluetooth Mouse and Apple don't mix.......2005-04-13

Belkin advertises their F8T041-B Blutooth Mouse as compatible with Apple products if you have OS 10.2.6 or above, but it is not full featured. Don't be lured into thinking it has 4 buttons plus a scroll wheel. After 15 days of email and a 50 minute phone call, I was told by their support staff that my 2 buttons and the scroll wheel is the best it can do.

Okay, so they don't make all the features for Apple that they do for Windows users, what else is new? My only gripe is that it is advertised on their product box and elswhere that it works with OS X. It doesn't mention that if you pay the same amount of money and use it on an Apple computer you don't get all the features.

I had to pay shipping to receive this product and now must pay to return it. None of that money will be returned to me. I hope Belkin makes a lot of money making products for OS X. But I also hope they make the products up to the grade of their advertisements.

1 out of 5 stars Trivial mac install, extremely poor OSX compatibility.......2004-09-14

The lack of documentation was no surprise, nothing has MAC documentation and that's ok. The install was pretty easy. I took the mouse out of the box, turned it on and clicked the bluetooth icon on my Mac to do the pairing. Configuring the side and scroll buttons to drive expose was also trivial. However...

The connection is intermittent. I get the "connection list" warning every 15-30 seconds. The mouse may or may not be connected after a 30-45 second pause to type (much like I am doing now) and may or may not require a few seconds to reconnect. Its not usable. So I changed the batteries and fideled around with my Bluetooth settings. No joy. I even rebotted my Mac. Still no joy.

When Belkin cares about the Mac market enough to include documentation, I'll care about their product enough to figure out how to use it. I mean, its almost as bad as open source software: it might work if you set it up right, but there's no documentation. Until then, it goes back to the store and I am back to either a bluetooth one button mouse or another wireless standard.

    Update:

I went back and bought the Microsoft wireless mouse. Its not bluetooth, so its not as handy with my PowerPook with built-in Bluetooth, but it works and has 3 buttons!

4 out of 5 stars Pretty good on OS X.......2004-04-02

Although there's no documentation about OS X, it's simple to set this thing up (in 10.3.3): just open the Keyboard & Mouse preferences, choose Bluetooth, and click "Set up new device..." and push the connect button on the bottom of the mouse.

And while there's no OS X support for the third (thumb) button, you're still a right-click and a scroll wheel ahead of Apple's own Bluetooth mouse offering... for less money.

2 out of 5 stars Poor Macintosh OSX Compatibility.......2004-01-06

Zero documentation for installation and setup on Mac -- I had to download a PDF from their website and ultimately email Belkin Tech Support for help.

Once I got the mouse basically working, I asked them how to configure the various buttons. Out of the box, the side button does nothing. Belkin told me "We don't have any special software to program the buttons but you may be able to find a third-party application"!! Clearly their Mac OSX support is an afterthought. My advice: Wait and buy one that really IS compatible.

4 out of 5 stars Best of 3 So Far.......2006-03-06

This is the third wireless mouse I've had. The first, a Radtech, had too short a battery life (2-3 days). My second, a Logitech, lost connection every 5-10 minutes. This Belkin is worth the money. I gave it only 4 stars because of its weight. You can't move this mouse with only the flick of your fingers.

2 out of 5 stars Not as mini as I expected.......2007-01-12

"Mini" is an overstatement. Looks to be about 10-20% smaller than a typical desk mouse. I was looking for something smaller for travel.

5 out of 5 stars Tracks well on almost anything.......2005-12-30

I love this mouse. I had the shorter cord one (perfect for notebooks). It would track on almost any surface, reflective, blankets, carpets, pants, whatever. It tracks much better than my Dell optical mouse. After a couple of years using it as a portable mouse it started acting strange. A single call to Belkin got me a new one, no problem. The new one has the longer cord, which is a little bulky for the notebook, but I guess satisfied some desktop users. A great little mouse, I love it!

    3 out of 5 stars Excellent (for a while).......2005-06-04

As my title says, this mouse is great until you've been using it quite a while.

When I bought my laptop, I immediately went out to find an inexpensive, portable optical mouse that would replace the touch-pad (which I don't like). I found the Belkin Miniscroller for under twenty dollars and bought it. It has been a joy for the seven or eight months I've owned it until a few weeks ago when it started acting up.

On good days, it'll work like it always has, but on other days (like today) it will stop working and the optical light will turn off. I disconnect and re-connect numerous times and the only thing that fixes it is a restart. On other days, it won't work at all, no matter what I do, and yet on other days, it will stop working, then I unplug it and plug it back in, and it works. It's really hit-or-miss; I never know what it'll do each day. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, downloading new updated drivers, and nothing has worked.

It's a fantastic little mouse, a good size for traveling but still not too small for big hands (like my huge hands), good cord length (about 4 feet), and great responsiveness on-screen... BUT, after a few months of normal use (I stress NORMAL, because I did not abuse it in any way) it may or may not start to act up and give you a lot of frustration.

But then again, it's so inexpensive you might as well buy two or three and have some back-ups in case this happens to you!

3 out of 5 stars Great Mouse - While it lasted........2004-07-06

I have to say that this mouse is very well designed for laptop users. It was a great mouse, and, you can read the other reviews to find out how.

I bought this mouse when I bought my Toshiba Laptop for use in school. The mouse worked great:
    *Instantly recognized when plugged in.
*Small size perfect for portable use.
    *Etc Etc.

The problems started after about 8 months of constant use, being carried from class to class, being unplugged and plugged several times everyday. It worked great untill the cord got a short in it. The mouse started to stop working if you moved the cord close to the USB connector. I fixed this by cutting off about a foot of the cord and the USB connector, and connecting another one. This seemed to solve the problem, but now, after exactly a year of using the mouse, the laser light on it is turning on and off for no apparent reason, and I am afraid I am now shopping for a new mouse.

Therefore I conclude that while this mouse is great for laptops, in is not durabble enough to be called truelly portable. It cannot stand up to the use that a mobile laptop user would give it. However, I have to be fair and mention that the plug on my power supply eventually came off after being plugged and unplugged so often, so this mouse is not the only non-durable laptop item.

1 out of 5 stars Mini my foot!.......2004-04-21

Not a true "mini" mouse. It is about as bulky and cumbersome as the cheapy mouse that comes with bundled PC packages. Not at all suitable for small hands (or people with a hand disability) as it so claims. It may have fared better had Belkin omitted the word "mini" from its name. A hassle downloading drivers which were not easy to find on Belkin's site. Also, there was no USB-to-PS/2 adapter in the package; you'd have to call the vendor and special-request it which they ship to you standard. They don't expedite.

                Product Description

Model 88CD is a wonderful-sounding compact audio system for use as a "second stereo" in a bedroom, kitchen, office or den. It uses high-performance speakers and amplifiers. Two-thirds of Model 88CD's cabinet serves as the enclosure for a four-inch long-throw subwoofer. It reproduces bass with remarkable accuracy and impact. Model 88CD also uses techniques like biamplification and electronic contouring (a technique pioneered by Henry Kloss) to create a natural, accurate octave-to-octave tonal balance over the entire range of music. Its auxiliary input can be used to connect an MP3 player, stereo TV, or anything else with audio outputs.Although clearly so much more, the Model 88CD is also the ultimate alarm clock. It includes a dual alarm system that will wake up two different people at two different times, using music, an alarm sound or both. Its credit card-sized remote lets you control Model 88CD from anywhere in the room.

5 out of 5 stars Wave Goodbye to Bose.......2005-02-25

Completely wonderful. Great FM reception and CD reproduction, plus an auxiliary input which really makes an iPod shine. The overall reproduction is as good, if not better, than a Bose Wave Radio, and it's almost a third of the price. It also has an intelligent alarm function which switches on the radio at a pre-set volume, so if you've been listening to a symphony at full-tilt you don't have to remember to reset the volume before switching off (I don't know if the Bose has this or not). If you want great sound in a medium-sized living space without all the paraphenalia of a hi-fi system, this is the unit to buy. Check it out. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Love it so far - buying another today!.......2005-01-08

My daughter has a Bose Wave radio/cd unit (that her mother bought her as a present) that she usually keeps in her bedroom or bathroom. When I wanted to play some CDs and hook up my Ipod to listen to some music and audio books while she was off visiting her mom, I sort of borrowed it. The sound quality and features of that unit were pretty impressive.
Deciding to get one for myself (because I knew I would have to return hers) I came out to Amazon just before Christmas, only to discover that you could only buy a Bose Wave radio directly from Bose. Not only that but when I looked I noted that they had just released a new model costing $500, where the controls for the thing are only on a small remote control. A completely idiotic design/idea, if you ask me. If you lose the remote you are out of luck. Go figure. So, anyway, I turned my attentions back to Amazon and looked at the alternatives that came up from my search - this unit and the 730. This one was less expensive and, more importantly, was actually available. From all the reviews it seemed it would be about the same thing as the Bose, for significantly less. I ordered one the week of Christmas and got it the Monday after Christmas. I set it up in my bedroom with no difficulties.
So far I love the thing. The quality of the unit is as good or better than the Bose, though I have to agree that the Bose looks nicer. The thing is a little bulky. However, the sound quality is great for a unit this size (although I think the `wide' sound setting is a little over the top) and I enjoy the fact that I have in one unit a choice of AM, FM, CD or Aux (my Ipod as a source). The only thing that I like better on my daughter's Bose (older model) is that the controls are on top of that unit rather than most being on the front face, like the 88CD.
I have even started to use it as my alarm clock, although that was not part of my original consideration for making the purchase. It is so much nicer to wake up to clean, clear, full sound rather than my old cheap alarm, with its tinny, weak mono speaker. However, I have to be careful, since I now find myself laying there listening rather than getting up :)
In fact, I am enjoying this unit so much, I just ordered a second for my kitchen so that I can listen to the radio, CDs or my Ipod while I cook or eat meals. So, I will end up with two units for less than the price of one of the new Bose Wave radios.

5 out of 5 stars Very simply: the best sounding and the best value!.......2004-12-26

The Model 88 was designed by legendary audio designer Henry Kloss just a year or two before he died. The Model 88 CD is the same product with a CD player added to the top. It is, very simply, the best-sounding table-top radio/CD/clock there is. If you're like me, you'd like to listen to music in rooms of the house (bedroom, kitchen, office) other than the room where you have your main sound system set up. And, when you listen to it, you'd like it to sound good. The Model 88 CD is your answer. It provides clear, spacious, powerful, full-range sound in the smallest package possible.

It is so far superior to your standard CD clock radios that it is unbelievable. While it is not as beautifully designed as the Bose Wave Radio (it looks a little clunky in comparison), it sounds much better: the sound is more detailed and clear and the bass is fuller without being boomy. The FM and AM reception are much better. It also costs about half of what the Wave Radio costs!

It is also, in my opinion, better sounding than the Cambridge Sound Works Model 740 which is produced by the same company and which was designed to replace it. The 740 is a little easier to use and has a snazzier design and can play MP-3's, but the sound of the Model 88 CD is worlds better. Kloss designed the Model 88 to accurately produce music and that's what it does. The 740, by comparison, sounds hyped up and unnatural. The 740 might be a better choice if you're going to listen to music (hip-hop, heavey metal) that benefits from sounding hyped up and unnatural, but everything else sounds better on the Model 88. It's probably no accident that, shortly after the original Model 88's were discontinued and the 740's came out to take their place, that Cambridge quietly put the 88's back into production. It's a better-sounding product overall. And it costs at least $100 less than the 740!

Of course, the Model 88 CD does all of the things you would want it to do. It has dual alarms and you can set it so you wake you up to an alarm tone or music from the radio or a CD. It has an auxillary input so you can plug in your iPod or satellite radio or even your computer. And it has a cool credit card-sized remote control so you can adjust it from across the room.

It is, very simply, the best-sounding product of its kind and the best value.

5 out of 5 stars Great Radio + Good companion to my mp3 player.......2004-12-11

Cambridge radio is surprisingly quite good compared to its price. Make Bose radios look overpriced. To my untrained ears, both sounded the same. Instead of using the CD, I use it as a speaker for my mp3 player. Excellent sound quality. The fm antenna is in the electric wire, so try moving the wire to get better fm reception.

                5 out of 5 stars Voltage question.......2004-12-08

                Hello,

Could any of the owners tell me if the input voltage is universal (100V-240V). I am leaning towards buying this system.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find this information on any of the tech specs (here at Amazon and at the Cambridge website). I am giving a rating of 5 since there is no "NA" option.

                Thanks.
