A truly pocket-sized digital camera with a sleek silver case, the Fuji FinePix 30i snaps 2-megapixel images and plays MP3 music as well. This isn't the first two-in-one digital camera and MP3 player, but it's one of the first to combine good-quality images with a very reasonable price tag. From the stylish sliding lens cover to the plug-in remote control, the FinePix 30i is full of nice touches. If you don't like the in-ear headphones, you can plug your own into the remote control, which can be used for taking photos as well as fast-forwarding to the next track.

The 2-megapixel CCD gives you images at 1,600 x 1,200, 1,280 x 960, or 640 x480 resolution settings, and you can fit 20, 39, or 75 images (respectively) onto the 16 MB SmartMedia card that comes with it. Even at the highest resolution that's a reasonable number of images to start with, but unless your MP3s are recorded at a very low bit-rate, it's woefully small for music (decent-quality tracks take a megabyte a minute).

Especially at the higher resolution, the FinePix 30i takes nice photographs with plenty of detail, crisp lines, and good color balance, particularly for outdoor shots. You can just point and shoot, but for indoor pictures it's certainly worth tweaking the flash settings and the white balance. The macro mode gives you clear images and legible text. You can review your photos on the LCD screen on the back of the camera. You'll get better composition control when using the LCD to line up your shots, but you'll get better life out of the two rechargeable batteries if you turn it off and use the viewfinder. An additional set of rechargeable batteries is highly recommended.

To keep the price and the weight down, the FinePix 30i doesn't have an optical zoom, and you can only use the digital zoom at lower resolution. You do get extra features though: you can record short video clips, add voice notes to photos, and use it as a Webcam.

To make the most of the FinePix 30i you'll need to pick up a higher-capacity SmartMedia card, especially if you plan to listen to a lot of music. Even so, this is a stylish and remarkably compact camera with plenty of features and good image quality. --Mary Branscombe

The mouse that roared! [4.5 stars].......2003-12-16

I have used the Cambridge SoundWorks Ensemble IV surround speaker system for over 2 years now. I am extremely satisfied! The system uses 5 small cube speakers that pack a punch. They sound great! The 0.1 component is a non-amplified subwoofer that is the size of a shoebox. I love the power and sound clarity I get from my 5.1 set. This is the best inexpensive way to complete a DVD watching experience. I routinely put in the "gunfight at the bank" scene from *Heat* to show off my system, and believe me, everyone is impressed. The system comes w/ a 10 year warantee, but I have never had a problem w/ my system.

One tip: most surround stereo receivers can adjust the power/output to emphasize the front speakers more than the rears. I highly advise doing that. In fact, Cambridge SoundWorks wants you to do that. Once you do that, you will notice a lot more bass from the subwoofer, as well as louder dialogue from the front speakers.

This system is a consumers best buy! It is easily the best value per dollar that I have ever spend on Audio/visual equipment. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is on a budget and doesn't want to lose out on experiencing 5.1 surround sound or DTS. And it will sound great!

The perfect system for my small living room!.......2002-10-23

I live in an apartment and am very cramped for space. The Ensemble 4 surround sound speakers are the ideal solution for me. They are small and unobtrusive, yet they sound really great! My friends can't believe that all that sound is coming from those little speakers. The woofer hides under an end table and the small speakers are mounted on the wall. I would highly recommend this system to anyone that is looking for big sound from small speakers...oh yeah, and the price absolutely can not be beat- I know, I shopped around!

Camera review.......2006-11-06

The Canon Sure Shot family has always been a great product line however this camera is a piece of junk. I have a difficult time even shooting a simple photograph. Everytime you take a picture, the shudder button jams and does not move. I highly recommend to anyone, don't waste your money.

Okay, but not great.......2006-08-25

I purchased this camera because Canon has a good reputation with cameras. I had a Richot which I have lost and needed a new camera. The quality of the shots from the Richot seemed much clearer than those from the Canon. I find the pictures are good but not quiet as sharp as from my other cameras. I also found the manual for handling the camera to not be user friendly - which is really rare since most companies try to make it easier for the user to grasp the concept of the new camera and its features. In my eyes, the camera will do for now, but I'm not sure of how long it will be before I replace it.

The coax cable connects to your tv, while the composite or S-video cables are used to connect to the DVD player. DVD players never have a coaxial output, and older TV's rarely have any inputs other than the standard RF (coax) input.

The gold-plated cables are a step up from the basic, and are beneficial because they ensure greater signal transfer and a higher quality picture because they are corrosion resistant.

This is NOT the "Basic" DVD hookup, this is the "DVD Cable Upgrade Kit" for TV's with MULTIPLE input connections. If you have only a coax connector on your TV, this is NOT the kit for you! This kit comes with a 6' gold-plated composite video cable, a pair of 6' gold-plated audio cables, a 6' gold-plated s-video cable, and a set of 6' gold-plated component video cables. It does not include the rf converter required for an older TV.

Unmitigated piece of junk.......2007-07-08

Crashes all the time and becomes unresponsive. Misinterprets keystrokes or inserts nonsensical characters. Will often continuously send out the same keystroke as if you're holding down keys. Get an IO Gear KVM.

Works well with a little undocumented tip.......2006-02-28

I find it does exactly what I need, at a great price. It worked right the first time I set it up. Sometimes it won't work though as documented. If double hitting the scroll lock key doesn't make the light flash, then what I do is change the order...hold down the number first and then double hit the scroll lock key. I have to do that about 1 out of every 10 times I want to switch. Not a big deal.

A Shameful Disgrace.......2005-12-23

This product is Garbage. Belkin ought to be ashamed. I will never buy another Belkin product as long as I live. It worked fine for a while, as other reviewers pointed out, but whatever you do - don't change anything after you get it working. We made the mistake of moving our computer desk to the other side of the room. Unplugged all our equipment, moved it, plugged it back in again. It only sees one of our two computers. No matter what we do, we can't get it to work again. What a waste of life.

Very Annoying.......2005-11-04

The Belkin KVM switcher is probably the most annoying piece of electronics I've ever used in my life. Belkin didn't see fit to make a simple switch to toggle between computers. Instead, they made a device that "thinks." You press the switch button and sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. Many times, I have to hold the switch down for several seconds, then it will switch, but switch back after a few seconds. There have even been times where I had to disconnect the switcher all together, just to get to the other computer, so I could shut it down, rehook up the KVM switch, and restart, so that the KVM switch would recongnize the fact that there is another computer hooked up to it.

This product is worthless to me. I'll be sure to never by another Belkin product again.

Don't waste your money.......2005-09-03

I just purchased this switch for use with a desktop and laptop in my office. The shielding on the cables or the internal components is completely inadequate and the two signals obviously interfere with each other. Unless I set the refresh rate from the video out of the laptop to 60Hz and the desktop to 75Hz I get waves of distortion tracking horizontally accross the screen (I have no idea what is magic about these rates). My advice: get a product with much better shielding than this one or plan to spend a lot of time fooling with refresh rates to hopefully squelch the groovy distortions from the video cross talk.
