This product became extremely frustrating to own the minute I needed it - a power failure. I was in the middle of heavy design work and it beeped for about 30 seconds before it died and didn't even help the PC hibernate. This has happened since for 2 years. Now I am here shopping for a new one, NOT MADE BY APC. I need to replace this one and I realized what I waste this was. It's a glorified surge protected, and should NOT be used for anything serious. It will indeed fail.

Best battery backup I've purchased for my home office. Allows a couple minutes to save work and shut down PC after power has gone out. This unit broke - just stopped working within a year but it was under warranty and APC replaced it free, no hassles or cost to me.

Spontaneously turns off sometimes.......2007-03-29
I hooked one of these units to my 35 inch TV, VCR, DVD player and XBox. Every fews months, the unit spontaneously turns off. I hear the snap of a relay and it's gone. I have to hold down the power button for 5 seconds to turn it back on. There was no alarm or warning of any kind before it turned itself off. Works most of the time, but for something that is suppose to provide uninterrupted power, it definately doesn't. The TV may be drawing too much current, but once it shut itself down in the middle of the night when everything was off. Maybe this device is a piece of junk.
APC ES 500.......2007-02-18
I have the unit connected to a Mac.
My only disappointment with this product, is the switch does not disable all the outlets. When you power off the main switch, only the battery backup outlets are disconnected.
The surge protected outlets remain powered when the main switch is turned off.
Other than the switch, I am very happy with this unit. I have some experience with APC battery products. All my servers at work are protected with much bigger units, but this will work fine for my home computer.
UPS and Surge Protection.......2007-01-12
All computer devices should be protected from both over-voltage and under-voltage. The former can destroy the hardware and the latter can destroy a day's work. The piece of mind is well worth it.
The APC ES 500 works as advertised though it did emit that funny "electrical smell" in its first few days of service.

I was looking for binoculars that I could use for birding and to take on safari in Africa. These binoculars are light enough and their field of vision is great. They work wonderfully during low light which will be great in Africa since we are out early in the morning and late in the evening. I have used them for birding already and I cannot wait to use them in Africa.

These are by far the best pair of binoculars I have ever owned. If you are looking for optics but can't imagine spending this kind of money, don't imagine just do it. Overall the fit and feel of these is great. The rubber coating is thick and uniform, the eyepieces are comfortable and optics themselves are breathtaking.
