Great Camcorder-Very Pleased.......2006-12-30

I couldnt find the optura 20, but since the only difference between the two was the lcd size, i dont think it matters.

I had done tons of research before finally coming to the Canon Optura 20. I had read that the reason for the 'bad' ratings was the poor low light video option. Who cares, get a light. Yes it sucked, but what the heck are you doing videoing in low light anyway?

Other than that the camera was incredible. Great, easy to use menus, options, etc. Buttons were just the right size and right placement. Zoom toggle was easily moved, and was done smoothly. The still shots werent the best, but its a camcorder. They were great for just snapping something quick when you dont have a camera. People also complained about the hum of the tape heads rolling being heard through recording, but i didnt really care for it. Wasnt loud or annoying. Just a pleasent lil background hum.....

Unfortunatly, i used this camera a lot. Well over 100 hours. I bought it early 2004, so it is nearing its 3 yr mark. It started failing to playback a few weeks ago, but still taped fine. The colors on the LCD would go out. The screen was still blue, but the lil tapy thing turned green/black instead of the norm, and so did everything else. Also if the camera is pointed towards bright light, strong horizontal lines are seen, kinda in a rainbow color. Oh well, time for a new camera!!

Overall, i was very pleased with this camera.

It's not the motor noise that's annoying..........2004-12-01

    I just bought this camera a month ago, refurbished, directly from Canon, and the motor noise can be heard, but it could be heard on regular Hi-8, Digi-8's, too. But there's software that can remove the motor whining noises (Studio v9.0 can, and that's just off the top of my head, so I'm sure there are more). And from my experience, it wasn't even that loud (I usually record in situations where there's a lot of audio feedback, so I couldn't even hear it).
    What I'm having "trouble" with is the battery life. I thought maybe I got a refurbished battery, too, but it turns out I didn't. I read the manual, and my battery life is actually on par with Canon's estimated shooting time. So I'm seriously contemplating getting the fat battery (535?) for more life so I can shoot more, but for most of us, in many a shooting scenario, the best alternative will be a $1.50 extension cord so we can just use it without the battery and not have to worry about battery life, etc. Also, I'm not too thrilled with where the scroller button is, because while the menu button is directly on top of it, the effects button is "inside" (where the lcd screen would be when it is closed), so there isn't a quick, easy way to access it, but I guess I can't really complain that much about it since I've only had it for a week, and I will probably get adjusted to it.
    This is my first MiniDV camcorder, and my first digital camcorder from my Hi-8. I've used other brands and makes before, and found this very competent and user-friendly. There are other models and makes, within the same price range, that others might find useful. As for me, out of experience, what ever I have, I just get adjusted and used to, and I found it very promising so far. I only gave this a four because of the horrible battery life most Canon digital cameras and camcorders are notorious for, but we can all manage.

I have purchased this product after checking no. of other makes and models like jvc,sony etc etc.Features I like the most are
1) 16x powerful optical zoom Sony has only 10x even in top models
2) 1/4 inch ccd, excellent indoor video quality.
3) Rock solid image stabilisation, no shaky videos.
4) Excellent point and shoot.
5) 1.33 megapixel still photos.
Features I do'nt like are
1) Little bigger and heavy, but good for stable video.
2) Motor noise is heard in recordings.
2) Video conferencing available only on windows xp.

After downloading "The Legend of Zelda" off the Wii shop, I found gameplay with the wavebird to be the perferred gameing option. Good battery life (great compared to the Wii Remotes) and 99% consistant connection lets me play from a comfortable distance from my TV. I bought another one (in platnum) for head-to-head Mario Kart battles!

Wavebird my 50th Review!.......2007-06-27

Well, this is my 50th review on Amazon. I saved this review for a special something called the Wavebird Wireless controller for the Nintendo 'cube.

This is by far my favorite controller, even now with such greats as the SixAxis and the Wii-mote, I still love the ol' Wavebird.

This device is well manufactured, it's almost indestructible. The 2.4 gHz technology is fantastic even today, having played with this controller almost exclusively for over four years it has never had a hiccup or any other sync issues.

The Gamecube controller is probably the best of any generation of game controllers, I love it for the different shapes of the buttons. In a pinch I always know which button I'm pressing, the Wii-mote is the next best thing, but for hard-core gaming it's not my favorite of favorites. The competition controllers all use plain old round buttons that I always seem to hit the wrong button on when it's important.

The battery life on this device is quite impressive. Believe it or not in four years of gameplay I've only changed the batteries two to three times.

The only complaint that most have about this controller is the lack of forced-feedback (tremor or rumble). To tell you the truth, I've never liked that feature anyway, but many do. I think that the omission of that feature is the reason for the unbelievable battery life and for me I would much rather have the extended battery life. But, perhaps the big "N" should have made a tremor pack available for it for those who wish to have the feedback.

Several key technical features make this controller superior to many of the competition:

Two position R1 and R2 buttons allow you to zoom in on a target 50% or 100% if playing a shooter.
Different shaped buttons lend themselves to better accuracy.
Camera stick and Control stick don't "Click in" a feature that often times results in mistakes (at least for me).
Simple key layout is easy to use and understand.
Controller fits comfortably in your hands.

All in all, this is a great controller. If you look at the competition (MS and Sony), they have both incorporated wireless controllers into their new game machines. I think the big "N" lead the way in this innovative field with a great controller called the "Wavebird Wireless"

We've had this controller for almost 2 years now. I bought it because my son got close to yanking the whole game system off of his dresser a few times. I was a little skeptical as to whether it would REALLY work. Well, it does, even 2 years later. We've even had a dog chew on it and it still works. Now my son sits on his bed 12 feet away and can play, no longer tethered to the system. We (I) love this controller.

I've used it for racing games like Burnout and Need for Speed, and sports games like Madden 2005 and NBA Street, and others like Mario and Animal Crossing. It seems to work fine for me - but I'm no pro gamer either, so take that for what it's worth.

I like the durability, reliability, and ease of this product. It was more than worth the money.

I can't say enough good things about this controller. Not only does it eliminate the tangle in front of your GameCube, the controller itself is not much heavier than a standard controller and has excellent battery life. Throw a couple of NiMH batteries in there and you're good to go - I've only had to recharge them two or three times, and I've had them in there for years.
If you absolutely need rumble support for a game, though, keep a wired controller on standby. Really, it's not that big a detriment.

Constant jamming!.......2006-10-08

I bought this copier a couple of years ago and have had repeated electronic error codes that require service and frequent paper jamming. When I finally convinced Canon to replace the product, they replaced it with a re-furbished D-880. I have experienced the exact same paper jamming problems and a few service codes. I run a businnes and have owned several copiers (Canon, xerox, and others). I have never experienced the degree of paper problems that I have with these two machines. One of my most reliable in the past was a Canon and that is why I chose Canon again. This machine is too problematic to bear the Canon name. I thought I must have just had a lemon at first, but now I know that this particular line of copies is simply not reliable. Very disappointing. I am now in search of a reliable copier. I am not down on Canon as a brand as they have many wonderful products. This is not one.

Canon D661.......2003-07-31

Ipurchased this copier March 2003, and have benn frustrated by the paper jamming consistently in the machine. I have been using Xerox 20 Lb paper and cannot print more than 50 copies without the machine jamming.I would not suggest this product for anyone that wanrs a reliable copier. It is extremelely frustating to keep puuling out the jammed pages and restart again.I print only 200 to 300 copies a month. The white pages I use are Georgia-Pacific Multi System Paper.

The winner is... the Canon.......2003-07-08

I reasearch things for a living and I have to tell you, the information available for these multifunctions is weak and misleading. So, I thought after my purchase I would chime in.

At first glance, the HP 3300/3330 series seems to give you the most bang for your buck -- (1200x1200 dpi vs. the Canon 600x600), sort of good looking, includes a scanner, etc... But it wasn't intil I got my hands on them and compared them side by side that a clear winner was revealed.

The Canon is far superior -- period. The Sharp and Brother versions may be fine machines, but there was no way to tell, as I had trouble either finding them or working them in the store (not a good sign). The HP version is noisy, and the feeder created a crooked copy everytime. Also, I was scared off by tales of poor software and margin issues. What put me over the edge was the ... ONE YEAR warranty.

The Canon was much more solid, much higher in quality, and much, much, more quiet. The text this fella prints is top notch. Also, it comes with a THREE year warranty and the first year is ONSITE! Also, the toner is the L50 cartidge -- Expensive, but is good (they say) for 5000 copies and has the drum/developer/toner in one unit. Basically the parts that have trouble are in the replaceable toner cartridge.

The bad news: You'll need to buy a printer cable if you don't have one. And the only other drawback is that there is no on/off button, only an energy saver mode that is like a "sleep" -- to solve this problem I am putting mine on a power strip that I can turn off.

Ultimately, get your hands on one and I am sure you will agree Canon beats HP.

Full XP compatibility in a flash!.......2003-02-03

Make sure you have USB 2.0 interface; the "old" 1.4 from six months ago can't handle it. Setup is a breeze, even for XP-os (the printed instructions are so good that they tell you the error message Windows will give you in advance, and give you the simple cure in the next sentence!) Absolutely crisp copying and printing (b&w only)that will have you kicking yourself for putting up with that old inkjet for so long--just let the old splatter painter do your color jobs, and never refill another ink cartridge again.
