I recently finished setting up my home theater in my basement. InFocus ScreenPlay X2 DLP Projector, Genelec sound system and the Da-Lite 92" HDTV fixed frame screen with their new high contrast fabric. I had been showing my images on the wall but the Da-Lite screen made the picture really pop! My family and I just love the way the pictures look so real. I'd highly recommend the high contrast fabric to everyone. Every projector should be sold with a screen. You cannot imagine what a huge difference it makes when watching your favorite movies.

I purchased this product for use with a uniden BCT15 gps enabled scanner. It aquires signal fast, even without a clear "view" of the sky. I mounted the gps sensor concealed under the dash, and have never had a prblem with loss of signal. I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a good, reliable gps input signal.

This item was bought for the primary purpose of working in conjunction with the Uniden BCD996T mobile scanner. The scanner has the capability of monitoring statewide trunking radio sites. The Garmin GPS 18 operates by opening and closing statewide trunking radio cellsites, with the use of Long and Lat coordinates. This item is very effective for it's purpose and is highly recommended for those who'll use it for this purpose.

using it with a pocketPC and mapoplolis.......2007-01-02

I use this with a couple different pocketPC's and love it. Combined with mapopolis it makes the best address level routing device that I've used outside of a dedicated routing GPS. I've got it hard wired into my jeep with a powered ipaq cradle mounted to the dash and the convenience of using it couldn't be easier.

I prefer the PC version over the USB because of it's compatibility with everything. Even thought I don't have a serial port in my laptop I actually got a USB-to-Serial converter just to use the GPS18 PC.

Make sure to configure the unit's baud speed by using Garmin's configuration software. It originally comes working at 4800 but it supports 38400. 4800 is too slow to get updated location data and may cause the movement in GPS navigation software to lag.

I found this GPS receiver while looking for a GPS to use in a home-built radio position beaconing system (Ham radio APRS for those of you who know what that is). I found the GPS 18 with cigarette lighter adapter and DB-9 serial interface. This GPS was quite literally plug-&-play. I supplied it power using the power connector and plugged the DB9 into my computer terminal, placed the GPS in the open, and a few moments later it was streaming NMEA 0183 position data to my computer. I didn't need to configure anything, no software required. The GPS works well connected to software such as TOPO to provide real time position tracking on your computer, and can also be easily connected to packet modems/TNCs/TinyTrak modules for APRS purposes. The magnet is a little weak, but the unit is light enough that it generally won't be a big issue. The connectors on the ends can be easily cut off for direct connection to a power source or your own homebrew NMEA device. However, you can also buy it with bare ended cables if you are looking to directly connect it to something.

GPS is quick to lock-on, and precise. Has worked like a charm for me. I'm almost certainly going to buy another one soon to use on a semipermanent basis in my truck.

Bought this refurbished from the Epson website. It worked fine for about a year (light use), then whammo, one fine morning the pulley mechanism failed. A well conceived device but poorly manufactured.

the problem with all epson home scanners are they are made chaeaply... they work fine till one day you turn it on and you get the flashing red light. cancel cristmas the scanner is dead. had this happen with a 3170 and 4180. no warning just quits. but when they work they are great. I took both of these scanners apart and they are built identical to each other. so im asuming the only difference is in the circuitry.
as far as working colors are good but ive seen better. Anyone buying a scanner for the software that it comes with. Step back and think about it. They want you to buy more software. Dont complain about the software.
save a few bucks by an oem unit and invest in decent software for the scanner (silverfast of vuescan). as far as it being slow.. well get a usb 2 cable and a usb2 card if your computer is so old it doesnt have usb2. the 4180 is slower than the 3170. but still not that slow. bottom line buy it if you get one cheap. but expect to by another in the future. the resolution alone is worth the price.

I bought my Epson perfection 4180 Photo scanner 13 months ago. After using it no more than 50 times The machine will not work. According to the manual it seems the bulb is no good. I tried to buy a new bulb from Epson but they don't sell it. It keeps saying send to your dealer. One would think the bulb should last more than 13 months. Of course it had a one year warranty. Epson sucks

Poorly made.......2006-05-05

I have no complaints about the quality of the scans. But after about a year and a half, the pulley mechanism came loose from the floor of the unit. I opened it up and I can see that the pulley, which has considerable tension, is held down by two tiny, thin plastic tabs. It is easy for them to break, and once one does, there is no way to secure the pulley bracket in place. I can just see them saying that these flimsy tabs are going to last as long as the warranty period and then the consumer has to buy another unit. Unbelievably poor workmanship. I think this model is no longer in production, but if it's any indication of what current Epson products are like, beware.

I have been using the Epson line of scanners for over 5 years now and once I switched to them I can't go back!

Excellent products.
I upgraded to the 4180 from an Epson 3120(?) (which is the one that got me hooked on Epson) when the 4180 first came out and it has never let me down!
I use it on both Mac & PC platforms and both are seemless.

I'm a professional designer and use it regularly to capture clients art for thier creative and this scanner is the closest I can come to sending it out to have slides/film/photos/print materials drum-scanned!
matter of fact, I have not had to have anything drum-scanned since I got my 4180!
It paid for itself the first batch of color slides I scanned with it.

Its fast and reliable. It interacts well with the 'Import' function of Photoshop and the descreening function is invaluable!
I have had to use other scanners in the past (HP, ScanJet, Kodak, etc..) and NONE have come close to being able to make an existin printed image usable compared to the Epson!
All the rest capture the print screen and make the image useless.
But the Epson has a GREAT descreening filter that makes fullsized scans at even 600dpi usable for print. Allowing for cropping and enlarging by nearly 100%!!!

the software works well, and is easy to figure out. if you're a beginner the 'Simple' screen will get you almost everything you need, but for seasoned users, the 'Advanced' screen has about every option in easy to find/use menues and screens.

The sharpening for photographs is astounding!

Only function I have found to be somewhat inacurate is the film/slide scanning autodetect. I will sometimes not show the full neg/slide. But this is simple enough to solve by switching the preview mode to 'Normal.' And no other scanner on the market can come close to the quality/resolution when scanning a slide/neg in my opinion!

I would give it a 4.75 out of 5 stars, but Amazon doesn't allow for part-stars, so I rounded up!

I'll never buy new again........2007-08-18

This is one of many refurbished items I've bought from Amazon, and if I don't tell someone it's not new, they won't know. Looks new; same packaging as new; manual and all the accessories are there; no scratches. This phone is great for my elderly mother who has a bad knee and can't walk like she used to. I have one handset by the TV and the other one near the couch. All she has to do is reach up and grab it. The service was superb. It didn't take that long to get here at all. Thanks, people.

Great Cheap Phone System.......2007-08-13

I don't think you're going to find anything better for under $40. Good quality, easy to use. Styling is a little outdated (compared to today's cell phones), but a good choice for any home or small business.

Handy Features...Works Well.......2007-08-07

I purchased a refurbished phone to have one handset in my basement and one on the main floor. The unit works well. All features works as advertised. The intercom feature is handy for reaching someone on another floor using the phone.

Also, the feature that allows you to modify a logged number for correct callback (by taking out the area code or inserting a "1", etc.) is handy and saves much time. A solid unit.

Good buy with minor annoyance.......2007-08-05

We've had these phones a few months. Overall the call quality is good and the answering machine works well. For the price, it is a very good deal. Our biggest complaint is that the phone's off and on button our positioned such that you may occasionally hit them with your ear as you lean the phone on your shoulder. This has happened several times resulting in cutting people off.

Just what I wanted.......2007-07-22

This phone turned out to be just what I wanted, an answering machine with an extension telephone. It works great the handsets and answering machine have great clarity and I really like the intercome, great for my small buisness.
