First off, there is no cards slot for the iMac. My bad for not checking, but the product was touted as compatable with Apples.

But for my PC, this and the Belkin Pre-N router I got, would not set up, ever. I'm not a computer guy, but I'm no dummy and I could not set this thing up. Technical support was worse than unhelpful. They knew less than I did and deflected reponsibility at every turn.

The seller, Shopila, was also unresponsive at their "customer support" email and phone number. I tried four times at each avenue. I sent the cards back and hope to get my money back. If not, I don't know what my recourse will be.

Great Hardware Poor Software.......2007-05-15

Works as advertised. Going from "G" to "Pre-N" increased my range by at least 30 feet but more importantly the signal was able to get through walls that that the "G" signal could not penetrate. The drivers work fine but the configuration software supplied with the card does not work very well. Use the Microsoft operating system configuration wizard for best results.

card didn't work - poor customer service.......2007-04-17

I bought this card and the Belkin Pre-N wireless router in Nov. 2006 at a BestBuy store during Thanksgiving sale. The router worked but the card did not. I called Belkin many times. Everytime they asked me to re-install the drivers and software for the card but the card never worked. I wasted more than 4 hours on phone and re-installing drivers again and again. Then finally Belkin asked me to ship them the defective card to get a replacement. I pointed out that I should not have to bear the shipping costs because the card never worked to begin with but Belkin was not ready to cover the shipping costs. I have shipped them the defective card today and am awaiting a replacement to arrive.

Noticeably Faster!.......2007-02-16

Just installed it following the directions from a previous review on this site...THANKS. Its fast! The card DOES SUPPORT WPA ENCRYPTION, just don't install or use the Belkin connection utility. Only install the drivers then cancel and let XP handle the connection. You plug your encryption key back into windows network connection manager when you connect and you are good to go. Have used several newer and supposedly fast adapters and this one smokes them on speed and range. Belkins website says that they were out of stock due to popularity of the product so you would think that they would get the message, pump out more of these and upgrade their software to take advantage of the higher security encryption.

Check the lamp warranty before you buy.......2005-12-17

The lamp in my PB6100 only lasted 600 hours in economy mode.. quite a bit less than the 3000 hours quoted for it and the PB 6110 available now. The lamp warranty is 90 days or 1000 hours. (of course the 90 days came first...I don't watch 11 hours of television per day!) When I called Benq, the tech support said the average lamp life of people calling for replacements was 500 to 1000 hours. again, quite a bit less than what is quoted in the sales literature. He said I got the warrented life out of the lamp (90 days, I guess) and should be happy with that.

By the way, I first had to e-mail to get a phone number, then waited on hold for about 25 minutes for the guy to say I'm SOL.

So, instead of looking at a $400.00 lamp every 3000 hours, I'm looking at a new lamp every 600 hours, or *FIVE TIMES AS MUCH*

I wish these guys would be honest about lamp life.

Good luck, and may your lamps last at least half as long as "up to 3000 hours"

Amazing, outstanding picture, superior DLP........2005-08-18

I made a huge research before buy this one, I'm not a fan of any brand, I just wanted the best for buck, simply. and I got it, compared with many others below $900 range, infocus, epson, optoma, viewsonic, nec..etc and definetely this one stands out.
However you'll have to buy a composite to vga cable, to get better results. highly noticeable, when you use this special cable, tested with a yamaha progressive dvd player. I tested also from my toshiba laptop thru a firewire port using a canopus advc110 converter to SVHS. Excellent picture not as good as the one from a composite to vga. The last experiment came from my AIW X800XT with composite outputs, got even a slightly sharper picture. Mainly I use it to watch movies and play Half-life 2 and doom3. If you want to go fancy and impress your friends a Elite VMAX100UWV 100" 4:3 Elect. Proj Screen Black is highly recommended. I got shocked first time I watched it.

Best Budget Projector.......2005-04-25

I did a lot of research and it boiled down to the PB6100/6110 or the InFocus X1/X1a. I purchased the PB6100 and have been plesantly surprised after a month of use. In presentation mode, the picture at 7 feet wide is sharp and impressive (make sure you select the correct user mode). For movies, the picture quality is truly stunning (must choose cinema mode) at 7 feet wide!! It appears that the quality of DVD player is rather important as a budget DVD player produces a washed out screen while a good progressive scan player produces rich and vibrant colors with no distortion. Shockingly good, even with some ambient light. It is a huge payoff for a very modest investment. Very enthusiastically recommended.

I confirm that this BenQ projector has either a crappy bulb or bad color wheel. I have used it for about 2 years, only watching movies on the weekends. The recorded bulb usage is 337 hours, and the picture already starts to flicker. At first I thought it might be the 25 feet long signal cable, so I disconnected the cable and just watched the blank blue screen, still flickers! Its promised bulb time is 2000 hours in video mode. If it is only me, I can blame it on probability and statistics. But it does not seem so.

I have not yet called BenQ, but since I have used it for two years (I have to check the warranty), and people here already complained about their bad support, I don't have high hope on it. The best thing you can do is not to buy it.

Low-budget home theatre owner here. Was happy with my unit. Pretty nice picture on a blank white wall. I have a dedicated cinema room that is pitch black so was very happy...until one hour ago. After 300 hours of use my bulb blew. And I never watch more than 2-3 hours at a time, so definitely not a high traffic user. I'm all the way in Hungary and that bulb is about a month's wages for this school teacher. This is a shoddy product, built-in obsolesence to the extreme. Now I have a useless room with a BenQ wart on the ceiling!

You are Warned!.......2005-04-23

Word of Warning. I purchased a BenQ projector and had it for a month before it started to fail and turn itself off. I sent it to BenQ for repair and have not recieved it back. That was over two months ago. I phone them every couple of days and get only lip service, they keep saying it is coming. So before you purchase a BenQ product think about the possibility of it getting repaired...or should I say never seeing it again.

Component cable for projector.......2004-11-16

Component DB15 to 3 RCA was a real problem to find out.
Online you can easily buy something around $200-400 but it
would be a waste of money. I found out only two options at the moment - buy a budget Steren 253-525IV cable ( 25' long) - price varies from $20 to $60 online , thus spend some time to shop around ,
second option was to build a custom made cable out of shielded Cat5e cable. Do not know which one would be a better one
for 25' run. Some people might try to use 3xRG6 cables - and
a short breakout DB15to3RCA/BNC cable

Great Pojector.......2004-10-25

I did a lot of shopping around for a projector on a budget. The Benq 6100 has been great so far. It is very easy to use and the menu is easy to navigate. I actually prefer the picture on the economy mode to any others. This is great because it extends the $400 lamp by 50%.
I have my theater set up in a 100% dark basement and the lumens are great. However I didn't have to add much light to see that you may not be happy if you can not control ambient light. The only complaint I have with the picture is flesh tones. They appear a bit green, but it is not enogh to be to distracting.
If you want to utilize this projector for HDTV be prepared to spend some extra money. You have to find (and good luck) a 15 pin to vga connection/conversion cable. I live in a fairly big city and had no luck finding one locally. I finally found one on ebay. A 25 foot length with shipping was about $50. This should be included with the projector but it is not. I would have rather paid $75 or $100 more at the time of purchasing the projector and not had the hassle of chasing down this cable! That is not to mention it delays you watching HDTV for a week or so.
Over all this is a great value. If you are in a budget and don't mind chasing the cable I spoke about I really recommend this projector.
