The Deluxe is simple to use and prints quality photographs. Because of the pigment ink, the prints truly are water and smudge proof. I've had mine for over a year and just bought one for my mother before all the deluxe versions are gone. Not interested in the newer models as are not the same quality. My grandmother also just bought this printer as she really likes mine. Oh, it's not a good idea to insert an ink cartridge if you are only going to print a few photos then not use the printer for a long time. The cartridges dry rather quickly. By the way, I also have an HP All-in-One, but I found it too complicated and expensive to print smaller photos as I wasted paper and kept messing up the dimensions. The PictureMate is so straightforward.

It measure 6 by 10 by 6 inches (HWD), weighs 5.5 pounds, and has a handle. The Deluxe Viewer Edition also has a battery option. Setup is just as easy as with the original. Simply slide the single six-color ink cartridge--with cyan, yellow, magenta, black, red, and blue inks--into the slot in the back, load the photo paper, connect the power cord, and you're ready to print from a camera, external CD or ZIP drive, a USB memory key, or any type of memory card, although you'll need an adapter for miniSD cards and some Memory Stick formats. To print from your computer, the only additional steps are to connect by USB cable and run the automated install program. You can also add Epson's optional Bluetooth adapter for wireless printing.

It takes about 1 minute 19 seconds to 1:45 for each photo, whether printed from a computer, memory card, or camera.

It uses ink and paper, which means the photos for the Deluxe Viewer Edition are also waterproof and smear-proof even immediately after printing, and they cost only 29 cents per print. Now this is the kicker, it is cheaper to print them at Sam's Club for 12 cents per print, so I only purchased this because I can take it to scrap meets and print what I need when I need it. My other photos I send to Sam's Club or even Wal-Mart for nearly the same price of 12 cents. This is more of a convince thing for me. I purchased this mode for only 24.99 at Target where it normally retailed for 199.00 but it was on super clearance. This is what you have to weigh in on, convince for the price or what your pocket book can handle. It has come in handy for me at times and the prints come out nicely so it is a tossup for people on a budget!

Epson Does It Again.......2007-07-30

Once again, Epson has developed a fine product. This very User-friendly photo printer has a plethora of capabilities to ensure the print meets the expectations of the User. It is compact, of course, and its excellent portability makes it a "Must-Have" for the enthusiast who wants to produce prints for friends within minutes of the takes at any venue. Super item at a reasonable price.

CD printing and other thoughts.......2007-09-22

Just got the R1800 primarily to print four-color Photoshop images/labels on CDs. Having read some of the comments, was a little concerned. However, my fears were unfounded.

The software and hardware worked flawlessly. The first CD was a little light, but that was easily adjusted. I'm very happy with this.

Also printed 12 sheets of graphics to be made into "buttons" using Kodak paper and they were fine. The "gloss" cartridge is down a bit, so I went and bought two more. The others haven't even begun to show usage yet.

On the other hand, I tried to use a sheet of Avery labels for another project, and the printer simply didn't "see" the paper. I suppose it's a weight problem.

Anyway, I'm happy with the printer. Which, by the way, is replacing an HP 1220C, which is a nice printer, and works well, but doesn't like heavier papers, and doesn't do CDs.

Don't buy this printer.......2007-08-23

If you can get this printer to work for you, you will love the quality of the output. However, as many have noted, you may end up wanting to throw it out the window. No matter how many times I try Epson's recommended procedures to get this beast working, sooner or later it refuses to print because "media out or not loaded correctly." This is a patent falsehood, but the printer remains intransigent.

By the way, Epson's fix includes deleting ALL your installed printer drivers, and then reinstalling them. Since I have two printers at home and work with five at school, reinstalling all those drivers is not a trivial task. And even then, if it works at all it only works temporarily. Then it's "media out or not loaded correctly" messages again.

Defenestration is too good for this printer.

MY INTEL MAC LOVES IT; excellent quality prints.......2007-08-08

The Epson site is beyond clear about the fact that the driver enclosed in the box WILL NOT WORK for Intel-based Macs. The appropriate driver is easy to find, download, and install from the Epson site. Our set-up, including download time, was probably under ten minutes -- and I might have overestimated by half.

The prints are superb. I bought this in order to do 13x19 prints "in house" and the only surprise is how much better prints turn out than I could possibly have expected. Simply, the price-performance ratio on this printer is outstanding.

As much use as this thing gets, it is especially helpful that the color cartridges are not "all in one". I find that it is far more economical to replace one color component. That has to be more environmentally sound, as well. Who knows how much "all" of the "in one" I've wasted before now?

It's no secret that there have been some software hitches for companies who did not understand off the bat that Macs with Intel chips would have different requirements. But the fixes on these are, in my experience, easy to locate. If you have an Intel Mac, take a minute to look around the Web for professional reviews of this printer. You'll see that Epson has solved its "issues" just fine.

DOES NOT WORK ON A MAC-Intel computers :(.......2007-08-06

I am VERY upset that Epson didn't tell me that the damn drivers don't work on a mac with an intel processor. Now I have a $600 printer that doesn't work, which I need it to for my buisness. VERY VERY VERY UPSET ABOUT THIS!!!!!!!!!!! And all of the updated drivers STILL don't work I have tried everything,,,, thanks epson for waisting my time and $$$$$

Not Mac Friendly.......2007-08-05

I bought this printer thinking that it was going to be as great as my past epson printers. Boy was I wrong! Unfortunately, I've had nothing but trouble with this printer. So far, I've only been able to print basic documents, but nothing fancy. It turns out that the driver doesn't support Intel Based Macs. So although it can print real simple documents, I can't choose the print quality when I need to print higher resolution pictures, so all my art prints are coming out horrible. I went online and downloaded the driver for the Intel based Mac and I followed the directions that Epson posted, but I still can't choose the print settings. I've had it for a couple of weeks and I'm about ready to throw it out the window! It's very frustrating and it has set me back with work because I can't print and sell my art prints. I'm sure if the driver worked, it would be a great printer, but so far I could've bought a $90 cheap printer and have gotten better prints.

This product is easy to use. Why are the directions so difficult to wade through? I ended up calling customer service, after reading the printed material and searching the CD materials. The major hangup was getting past the little popup window inside the folder with the product icon: When you open it, a popup asks for your name, the serial number and your phone number, as I recall. I thought this was the product registration page, which I postponed doing to continue my search for the directions. Had I filled in the registration material and hit "continue," I'd have finished calibrating my monitor and hour and a half sooner. The customer service rep said, "Yeah, you have to sort of put two and two together." A simple note on the registration page saying: "Do this first or we'll never let you get to our directions" would have been very helpful. Overall, the printed directions need work. By the way, the product is great. At last, my prints look like what's on my monitor.

NOT Accurate, Annoying Process.......2007-09-16

I was happy to finally get my many computers aligned with the proper calibration tool. Unfortunatley, this is a failed product. I tried calibrating many of my computers - a have a dual screen LCD setup, another wide screen design machine, and 3 laptops. I used the Spyder on 4 of them already, and it's really awful. Why are these reviews so good - this product is weak, too complicated, asks for too many manual adjustments and has not really calibrated anything. It's really just been a waste of my time. I am going to search for a real tool. This is just terrible.

Excellent results on my iMac 24" screen. Screen prompts eliminate error of use and very simple to follow. If you have a critical color eye and attitude as it relates to your work flow; this is a "must have" program.

Monitor Calibration.......2007-08-09

It was time to bit the bullet and really calibrate my monitors. All you read about is how important it is to "calibrate your monitor". If you are like me, it's hard to buy something you are only going to use a few times a year so you think you can get away with calibrating visually with some of the freebies out there. I was shocked at how off my monitors really were (the Spyder2Pro gives you a before and after selection when you are finished). If you are like me, I always read many reviews on products before I purchase which helps me decide what to do and wonder about the people giving the reviews. I happen to work on 4 dual monitor work stations and several other single monitor computers so this was really worth the money. As far as ease of use, I had no problems understanding the calibration proceedure Color Vision gave. All but 2 of my monitors are LCD so I could lean them back at a slight angle to have the spyder rest properly. The 2 CRT's are in my Green Screen Room and are used for direct video capture using Sony Vegas. I am not one for photos or other "screen saver" junk. My monitors are all set to neutral gray... strictly business. It's wonderful to see all the monitors exactly the same. I also print on an Epson 4800 so I need to know prints are going to look like my edits in Photoshop. Good Job ColorVision!

This pack produces great photos, drys almost instantly. Ink will print more than the 150 sheets. I purchased another brand of premium paper and it does not dry very well at all. I would recommend getting only Epson paper.

Epson's printers when altered are great.......2007-09-23

The epson cd dvd printers and others are great when the ink problem is solved. I just added a continuous ink supply with sponge-less cartridges for $50 which includes 720ml of ink, 1/10 the cost of ink when bought in bulk bottle and lasts longer. Go to ebay and put in continuous ink and your printers name. Or search "Super Smart Electronics" on ebay. Enjoy

Do NOT buy an Epson product on-line they have awful customer service and no 1-800 number. My printer did not reconize the ink and after spending 15-20 minutes on hold was told that the ink was bad and they would send fresh ink to me. Well I called weekly and have not received the ink yet a month later. But since I ordered it online, I didn't want to pay to ship it back just yet.

Ink is a big problem and could be a scam.......2007-08-24

In my usage of this printer, I believe Epson is making a killing on ink sales.
I only print on DVDs and only print black and just a few lines of text at that, yet the other colors also show the same decreased print level. I don't believe there is any actual sensor that detects the amount of ink in the cartridges. It is a counter so whether you use the color or not, each print counts against the cartridge. It is a falicy to say that it is because of 'cleaning', if that were true, I would have a whole lot of colored ink in the inside of the printer.
Also, I don't believe the cartridges that come with the printer are full cartridges either, they are pretty much just trial ones to get a few prints out of then they deplete very quickly. When I first plugged the printer in, the cartridges all read full, then printed a few prints, then they were already down to 75% full.
A big complaint also is that the cartridges are all sold separately - 6 cartridges all $14.95 or more each and black is more. But from my experience, all the colors deplete at the same rate and from other user's experiences, you can't just replace one if others 'say' they are low, so you will be forced to buy all 6 again when I am sure there is plenty of ink left in the cartridge when it says it is 'empty'.

This was better than the 5 pack at Sam's $63+tax. Even, less than Staples (best individual price) when I walk in with a used ink cartridge.
For the person who says they went down quickly, 78's always show full when installed then drop quick after the first couple of prints. Only the 77 cartridges' (double ink $19.99 you can only get through Epson.com) will read out (drop) smoothly as you use them.
Considering five 77's will run $100 + tax & shipping this is a very competitive and compelling deal. Epson will have a 10% deal and/or free shipping when spending $125, but it is a large outlay to sit in a drawer for months. I normally invest in one of these 5pk's to have stock on hand (2-3 months with better than average printing & some photos), then pick-up the black at Staple's on "as need basis".

Be careful, I wasn't...thought this was an excellent deal, and with free shipping is a decent deal instead. The customer image above shows all six inks, there is NO black ink. The product itself is of course excellent, real Epson ink in an Epson R260....excellent. But figure in buying black...

Very Good small network printer with the proper adapter.......2007-09-18

Years ago I bought the very popular Epson C80. To simplify printing from several computers in our house I bought an EpsonNet Parallel Print Server adapter (C823781) so that we could print from any PC without booting up a dedicated computer. When the C80 died about a year ago (internal ink hemorrhaging), I thought I'd have to find a new color network print solution ($$$). Then I discovered the C88 is supported by the same print server adapter! While these printers tend to waste ink, the print quality is very good and the printer has been otherwise very reliable. I have two students at home, so the C88 gets well exercised.
Also, it was easy to setup network printing for Ubuntu Linux boxes. Yesterday, during setup of an Ubuntu 7.04 box the C88 was discovered and correctly identified on my network!

impossible to install on Mac OS X.......2007-09-18

I bought this printer for my mom many months ago, and I still can't install the drivers for her eMac. The install disk didn't work. The drivers cannot even be downloaded from the website onto a Mac (don't ask me why), and I had to download and transfer them on my PC. The installation "succeeds", but the drivers still don't work, and the computer cannot see the printer. The instructions that Epson support sent me did not work. Nothing works. I've never seen a product that was so much of a pain to get working.

What we have learned to expect from an Epson printer.......2007-08-31

As with every other Epson printer we have purchased ( we currently have three in London, UK and one in California) this printer is an excellent, no problem choice. Easy to set up, totally reliable and very good quality imagery. My only complaint - it is the usual one - is the cost of the ink cartidges. It is so tempting to use the cheaper alternatives. We are particularly keen, as designers, to ensure that colours are exactly as we want them. Of course we tried alternative inks and they were hopeless. So, bite the bullet and stick with Epson, all the way!

Demands more ink when there's still ink in the Cartridges!.......2007-08-27

I absolutely HATE this printer.

Once again, the ink has run out. Why does this make me so mad? Because I just bought all 4 new cartridges (costing me over $35) less than 6 weeks ago and I haven't made very many prints. I've printed 0 photos. All my prints are mostly B&W, and I set the printer to "economy" setting on the ink. I turn the printer off when not in use (as the manual recommends to avoid drying out the cartridges). I shake the cartridges, and they're still half full.

But for some reason, this monster wants MORE INK.

For the amount of money I spend constantly refilling the ink, I might as well just but a brand new printer each time instead of buying new ink!

The MOST annoying thing about this printer is that it "locks up" if even one of the cartridges goes "empty". I want to print a B&W document, but it won't let me because the Yellow cartridge is "empty". ARGH!

If you are a casual printer, this is not the machine for you.

If you plan to print alot of B&W documents, color documents, or even (gasp!) an occasional photo, this printer may cause you to become Amish.

If you want a really shiny paperweight, this printer is just what you're looking for!

What a great little printer.......2007-08-12

As with all the reviews showing this printer as a great investment, I really can't add much. I purchased this based on reviews both from Amazon and Google Search. 24 hours later its here on my doorstep. I'm making reproductions of original decals so the durabrite inks are important. This scanner has been working a few hours each week since purchase. Perfect no problems. To me...really the biggest 'thing' about this purchase is the Amazing ability of AMAZON to make a shopper, like me, feel so absolutly great about my purchases with them. I am a PRIME member and this membership has paid for itself many times over. I could care less if something is on eBay...AMAZON is so so light years ahead in safety and ease and peace of mind ordering. THANKS MUCH AMAZON...ya got me on my first purchase looooong time ago!

The print quality is fantastic on photo paper and dvd's. The only gripe (a small one) is that its a little big. I haven't had to buy ink yet so I'm not sure what that will be like.

Epson r 260 Printer.......2007-09-10

Epson has scammed it's customers again.......2007-09-09

Do not buy this printer!!!! This printer will not accept ANY generic ink, it will only accept ORIGINAL EPSON INK. This refers to the Model Epson Stylus Photo R260 made after May of 2007. How low can a company go by doing this? Oh i forgot, it's Epson. I have researched this & thousands have had the same complaint. This printer eats up ink like crazy also!! Any chance it gets to clean it self, initialize etc it will do & in doing so it eats up the ink like crazy. When i purchased this brand new printer (approx 2 weeks ago) i installed all new FULL ink cartridges (not the free ones you get in the box) & the ink is already gone, i have not printed any big projects or such, just regular use & this is how i am repaid for putting faith in Epson. NEVER will i buy ANYTHING Epson again & i will make sure i tell the world about this through my 20 year entertainment magazine. In the past Epson has had law suits for scamming customers & have lost their court cases due to ink scams & such & you would think they would learn. Epson is the worst company i have EVER had the displeasure of dealing with. DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER OR ANY OTHER EPSON PRODUCTS!!!!!!! If you do, then don't say i didn't tell you so.

Multimedia Projector.......2007-09-19

The Epson S5 2000 Lumen 3LCD Multimedia Projector has worked perfectly since received earlier in September 2007. Things you should note are the projector comes with a carrying case and it creates a lot of heat. So operate it in a cool environment. Hook up is a snap and is truely very light.

Digital projection technology has really come around!.......2007-09-11

What can I say? I manage the Western US for our firm. I present industry seminars to groups of 10 to 50. Being in the graphics industry, I'm pretty saavy with inkjet and other printing technologies, and have been in photography since high school. I thought I knew digital projectors. However, I wasn't prepared for all the new advances in portable digital projection technology.....at least not for under $600. Not only can you electronically zoom in or out on total picture size, but you can electronically "tilt the image" forward or back, to compensate for raising the front of the projector to elevate the image on your screen or wall. It takes care of the "trapizoidal distortion" in optical projectors of yester-year. I was blown away. And by the way, this projector really is "physically super-light", a good thing if you dread carrying your equipment around a building, etc. As for setup "out of the box", I test drove it within minutes. I didn't even need the quick-startup manual, although it's a 5 minute read, and gives you all the info you need to get going. Connecting to my corporate Dell laptop took seconds, and I simply used the monitor output cable they supplied with the projector. I'll be ready to use this tomorrow AM if I want. I'm totally satisfied. I even got a remote control.......I honestly wasn't even thinking about that little extra. What a deal.

You can't go wrong folks! Epson the kings of the budget projector FOR UNDER 800 BUCKS have yet again come out with a powerlite S5 projector. Now i own a S3 for like a year or more and Epson has released a S4 and now a S5 both of which have only improved on lamp life and BRIGHTNESS. WHAT WOULD REALLY SWEETEN THE DEAL IS A HDMI PORT FOR TRUE HDTV PROJECTION...but i guess a hdmi port would hike up the price alot but the powerlite series just keeps getting better and you can't go wrong it's a LCD PROJECTOR WITH 3LCD TECHNOLOGY,,REMOTE,,TRAVEL CASE,,VGA CABLE,,AND amazing picture quialty and clarity...YOU'LL BE SO HAPPY IM WATCHING IT AS I WRITE THIS REVIEW AND am planing on buying this S5 soon if my lamp burns out..my past review is on amazon as well http://www.amazon.com/Epson-PowerLite-S3-LCD-Projector/dp/B0009I0634
