Product Description
MX-2900 Zoom digital camera bridges the gap between amateur and professional photography. Enjoy 2.3 million pixels' worth of brilliant color, plus a 3x optical zoom lens. With this high resolution, it raises digital quality to another level and creates images as large as 1,800 x 1,200 pixels. You can also add your own lens or flash, if desired. The camera features 2.5x digital zoom, rechargeable lithium-ion battery, and large color LCD viewing monitor. The CCD's higher integration also gives you a 3:2 aspect ratio, ideal for shots of large groups or endless landscapes. Enlarge an image or trim it to alter the composition. When you examine an image taken with the MX-2900 Zoom, you'll notice how the skin tones look natural, the green leaves say it's springtime, and the sky is a luminous blue. One source of this accuracy is the advanced spectral characteristics of the MX-2900 Zoom's RGB primary-color filter. Along with auto white balance, it ensures that the colors are faithful and vibrant.
Amazon.com Product Description
The FujiFilm MX-2900 digital camera includes some of the best features in digital imaging. With 2.3 megapixels packed into a 1/1.7-inch CCD, this camera offers the ability to create high resolution images as large as 1,800 x 1,200 pixels. You can print photo-quality images up to 8 by 10 inches. A primary color filter and auto white balance maintain the realistic images you want to create--grass stays green and the sky remains blue.
The optical 3x zoom lens introduces versatility to your image capturing. It delivers coverage equivalent to a 35-105mm range in 35mm cameras. Your close-ups and portraits will have the look and feel of traditional photographs. The camera boots up in no time at all and the interval between frames is short so you won't miss a shot.
The camera controls are operated with a mode dial and a four-direction button. The menus for everything from setup, shooting, playback, and data transfer appear on the LCD screen. Framing guidelines assist the editing and cropping process without the hassle of downloading to a computer first. The MX-2900 is fully automatic, but features manual exposure control and white balance for greater control over shots.
Each image you take is stored on the 8 MB SmartMedia card or deleted, as you choose. In the playback mode, the MX-2900 offers several digital effects. With the use of filters, you can add sepia, black-and-white, silver cross, or rainbow cross effects. The latter two effects add a sparkle and glimmer to highlight areas of a picture. A flat image will instantly become bright and shimmering.
A pop-up flash allows for clear images even in difficult shooting situations. This extra-value bundle includes an external flash to enhance your creative control, as well as a USB card reader for easy downloads. Other accessories include an 8 MB SmartMedia card, NP-80 rechargable battery, AC adapter, lens cap, video cable, hand strap, aerial cables for Windows and Macintosh, CD-ROM for Windows and Mac, TWAIN driver and Adobe PhotoDeluxe 3.0.
Customer Reviews:
Great package, but not complete.......2000-08-15
This is the first major camera purchase I have made since I bought the Canon AE-1 many years ago. I have taken and printed several pictures with it and am very pleased. Since I'm new to digital cameras, I'm not sure what all the hype is about concerning mega pixels. From what I can tell you can only squeeze so many pixels into a 3x5 rectangle anyway. I have printed an 8x10 with my HP812 and I am stunned by the quality. I just can't see why I would need anything more than this camera has. Dittos to other posts: buy at least a 32M card to replace the 8M one; you need at least 1 extra battery and the BC-80 quick charger (1 hour vs 8). A word of warning here -- though I live in a large metropolitan area, neither the battery nor the charger was available locally through camera specialty stores or huge discount stores. The specialist battery store doesn't even stock them. A call to Fujifilm resulted in a recommendation to a webstore that specializes in digital gear. Be prepared to spend [more money] for the charger and the battery. The point is that, evidently, Fuji has not made a significant impact on the market here in the U.S. for digital cameras. Anything you need may have to be ordered. After you're set up though, you may not need much else. Easy to use, super USB connection, lightweight, compact, nice features, and a quality product. AE-1 has been retired!
Overall the Best Value.......2000-08-03
There are many good things to say about this package but one of the best is that it works so much like a regular camera that most first time users will never become confused. In addition, for the more advanced user, it has almost all of the manual settings that you would ever use. You may see cameras at a lower price but then you have to add everything on. This comes with a recharger built in and unlike other comments, I found that I could take about 30 pictures and delete all but 15 without running the battery down at all. The key I think is to not use the LCD display unless you have to. The pictures in "Normal" mode are excellent for e-mail or e-bay and print out very well. The detachable flash is a real lifesaver (battery life that is) and works well. Having the AC adapter is a real bonus if you take a lot of pictures in a controled setting (such as for on-line auctions) or for when you are reviewing pictures on the TV or PC. I did have some difficulty loading the USB Card Reader but I think it was more "user error" than anything. I couldn't use the CD provided because it won't work with auto-run and my PC kept trying to open it as an audio CD. I then went to fujifilmsupport.com but it took me a long time to find the correct download. When I did get it, something about the program disabled my modem and I had to delete and re-load it again. Once I figured it out, it worked great. Again, I may have missed a step so I wouldn't make this a deciding point in purchasing this package. The zoom is excellent but I wouldn't count on the digital zoom being much help; the resolution goes down quick and you end up with a pretty low resolution pic. We spent a great deal of time researching cameras and this is by far the best for the money. I have to say one more thing: Amazon's service is incomparable. We ordered this camera on Saturday, regular mail. They sent it UPS on Sunday and we recieved it at 3:00 on Tuesday. We were able to charge it, play with it and then take it on our Vacation which started Wednesday. It was also great to be able to track the package on line. By the way, the best price we found around town (Sacramento) would have been over $700.00 with the accessories. If you have any questions e-mail me at moandlo@jps.net. Morris B
It's a great starter package for the price........2000-07-28
I bought my brand new MX2900 camera (including the same"freebies") at an online auction last May 2000 for similar price... It's a GREAT camera, and this is a good enough price for this package (although you'll agree that it will continue getting cheaper with time). The package includes all the basics you'll need. However, I recommend buying the following extras: extra rechargeable battery (NP-80), a quick charger (BC-80)and a few more smartmedia cards (32MB or more). I also found useful to have a wide conversion lens (WL-MX29).
A spare battery is useful because the camera drains the battery really fast (especially when you always use the LCD monitor). A quick charger (BC-80) is really handy because it only takes an hour to recharge the battery (the AC adapter takes 8 hours). A few smartmedia cards are necessary because the 8MB smartmedia card that's included in the package doesn't hold much photos. For example, 1 picture taken at the "hi" setting (uncompressed file) and "1800x1200" pixel setting will use up 8MB of space already. Without the extra memory cards, you'll find yourself always running to your computer so you can move your picture files from your smartmedia card. By the way, unlike what the other reviewer said (5 photos at "fine" setting with 32MB smartmedia card), a 32MB smartmedia card will actually store up to 36 photos taken with the "fine" and "1800x1200" pixel settings. You can even verify this at Fujifilm's website... I suggest you visit that website to learn more about the camera's features and specifications.
The camera has both automatic and full manual modes. It even has a self-timer. There are so many features so make sure you read the manual... As of today (July 27,2000), this camera rates as #2 in the 2-3 megapixel range (second only to Olympus C2020).
I have not found much use for the "high" setting (uncompressed ".tiff" images). Like what the other reviewer said, this format is nonstandard. Most online photo sharing/printing services accept only the ".jpeg" format (available with the "fine," "normal," and "basic" settings for this camera). If you plan to print your photos, the "fine" and 1800x1200 pixel settings will produce 4"x6" prints that are comparable in quality to photos taken from a 35mm camera (I have not tried printing larger prints). Otherwise, for web sharing, the lower settings will do the job just fine...
I have no regrets about buying this camera. Yes, there are cameras with 3+ megapixels out there, but I do not yet see the need to upgrade. This camera is worth the price that Amazon.com is selling it for (I would not pay more).
Before I end this review, let me just say a few basic things: 1.)Cost: it's a good value 2.)Strengths: looks impressive (like those 35mm Nikons); auto/manual modes; photos show good colors; crisp images on LCD monitor 3.)Weaknesses: internal flash can be weak (make sure you always have your external flash at reach); the lens cap just dangles on the side; kind of slow (takes too long between shots) unless you use "continuous shooting" mode (in which case, you're automatically fixed at only 640x480 pixels)
Great Hardware, sorry software.......2000-07-14
The Fuji MX-2900 Zoom is a great technical camera. The body parts and lens are very well made. It allows point and shoot for beginners and complete control for advanced users. The USB Smartmedia reader is wonderful! Let me say that again...WONDERFUL! BUT....Fuji uses a non-standard format for high resolution .tif images which can't be read by most image processing software. That means all the image software you now have will probably be unusable with these images. This is a problem if you want the best images for making large prints. If you don't need the high resolution .tif images, the MX-2900 is the best buy I've seen. I'm glad I purchased it.
This is the best digital camera for the money.......2000-07-06
I have had a Fuji 2900 for over a year now (and I paid a lot more than this!) and I love it. I had an earlier Fuji digital model before this and found that that too was a great camera. An unfortunate accident led me to purchase a new Fuji and I have been nothing but happy with this one.
This camera is easy to use. I have read the instruction booklet that came with it, but usage of the camera is pretty straight forward and reading it was only needed for some of the more complicated functions.
Everything you need is included. You get the cameras, a memory chip, a plug adapter (that also works in europe!), software for your PC (download mac free from www.fujifilm.com), rechargeable battery, and a cable to download images to your computer via the "scuzzi" port. It looks like Amazon has thrown in the USB connector which is a great - the downloads will be much faster. I recommend buying the 64MB SmartMedia memory card as you can take 100's of photos without downloading with that memory chip.
I have been traveling in Europe and have been able to take great pictures and send them back to my friends and family in the States via the intranet. I have the 32MB SmartMedia card and can take 64 pictures at the "normal" setting before needing to download. The pictures have so many pixels that I have to reduce the images in half for my personal website to allow the images to be viewed normally by web browsers. Using "Fine" mode, I can only take 5 pictures per 32MB memory card, but the photos are simply astounding.
Viewing the full size pictures on PC makes for a great slide show and an excellent image library for the occasional "remember this?" email to friends. Using software like thumbsplus (http://www.thumbsplus.com/) - makes it easy to turn my images into webpages and has an excellent database mechanism allowing me to search my pictures by keyword.
When I take the camera out for the afternoon I feel free to take pictures of whatever I want. If the picture doesn't turn out - I erase it - right from the camera. I have been able to be much more experimental with my photography this way as I don't have to shell out cash for every single picture I take that doesn't quite work out.
I like it so much, that I bought one for my Dad. He loves it and has been sending me a bunch of great pictures via email. Unfortunately, Amazon did not carry the camera at the time and I paid $750 for it! But now they do carry it for way less and I am passing this URL off to my friends who have asked about my camera.

Takes a lickin & keeps on clickin.......2002-12-08
This camera was knocked out of my son's hand by a ceiling fan onto our basement floor, fell out of my shirt pocket onto a concrete sidewalk outside the National Cathedral in DC, and has otherwise been bumped, dropped, and generally mistreated for going on two years, and it still takes pictures -- that with the right printer, paper, and software -- I can blow up all the way to 11X14 inches with true photo quality. There isn't enough good I can say about this camera. Of course, it's no longer a current model, but at the prices available today -- and assuming you use a card reader of some kind to download pictures from the smart media cards -- it's still a great camera for the money.
mx2900 digital camera.......2002-12-05
I purchased this camera almost two years ago, and I am well satisfied with it. I use a hp1000 printer with it and only hp premium plus glossy or matte paper. The pictures are magnificent, I have printed some of my pictures for comparison on much more expensive printers none so far have been better than mine.
The only thing I have against it,is that it didn't come with a leather carrying case. If one is made specially for the mx2900 I am not aware of it. If there is one made how do I get one?
fuji MX2900.......2002-03-12
I can not find a bad thing to say about this camera! If I was to look for an area for improvement I think it would have to be: Better ability to take wide angle pictures. Other than that I love it.
Excellent Hardware, less than excellent software.......2001-12-24
I love the camera. The zoom works easily and the optical viewfinder means I never have the battery run down during a day of shooting. But...Fuji uses an odd TIFF file system when taking umcompressed photos and regular software won't read the file. You have to use the Fuji software and convert the file to JPEG. Their software is not user-friendly. Fortunately, I rarely take TIFF images. The JPEG images at the 1 megabyte level are fine for anything but portrait work. Excellent construciton and excellent color rendition. I've used the camera for a year and will soon upgrade to a 5 megapixel unit, keeping this as a second camera. One really irritating thing: The "close-up" setting does not go back to default when the camera is turned off, which can ruin a lot of pictures if you're not careful to turn the "close-up" off when done taking close-ups.
With that exception, the controls are easy to operate and the camera has served me well.
My fantastic Fuji MX2900 Digital Camera.......2001-05-07
Dear Fuji !
First I would like to say , that the MX2900 has been a great camera at a great price for me . I purchased one... for myself and my job. I am currently the Internet Manager for Mancari's Chrysler Plymouh Jeep in Oak Lawn IL . I have used the camera for taking auto photos and many other different projects.
The Fuji MX2900 Digital Camera is extremely easy to setup and use altogether . It has a very nice "Chrome metal" look and is also very lightweight. The pictures it takes are excellent !...
Even though I know there may be better cameras out there , I still rate this one a 10 in my book of Best Cameras. I have looked at the Fuji 4900 model , and this one is "smokin"!
Thanks Tammy Mandlke / Danbury, WI.

Customer Reviews:
Best cheap pocket digital!.......2007-09-16
My family of 3 each has one of these for 3 years now and they are great. Our "good" camera died the night we were packing for Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. We took our Logitech cameras and got fantastic pictures. We always have them in our pockets for city (we live in NYC) walks - you never know when you'll see something neat. If they get lost (hasn't happened yet), no worries. The usb charge is fast too. Oh by the way, a full charge lasted on our cameras past the 2 week vacation with hundreds of pictures taken.
Rubber duckie I love you........2007-03-25
I thought my score for this camera was one lost, two killed. then I found No. 3 wedged in the car seat and it works!!!!! It was wedged for two years. and the last two pictures were still good!!. How did I kill those two ?? One got stuck in an escalator and was bent when the guy got it out. The other was hiking with me in freezing weather and was in my rear pocket , could be it got frozen, could be it didn't like that sliding down slopes.
These days I own a Nikon D70. It does every thing a camera should. But it doesn't fit in my pocket. It requires forethought and careful setting up and, gasp, reading the manual to get better pictures. Im even afraid to carry it while riding a bike. I'm medically insured but it is not.
I bought all three Logitechs for considerably less than the current price and was intending to use my phonecam instead of the Logicam, but now I have my Logicam back I am happy and promise to be more careful with it. `
bogus.......2007-01-22
I bought three of these cameras. The first one was lost when it fell out of my husband's pocket while he was trail riding. The second was lost when it fell out of my husbands truck while he was on a trip. The last one had a problem with the battery not charging. This is when we found out that the camera had an internal battery that was not replacable.
I e-mailed the company and they told me to call the company. I called and called and was never able to get through. I then called the sales branch of the company and he told me that the best time to call was 7:00 am my time before the rush. While this was quite awhile ago. I never did get through to anyone. And I have a worthless camera that was used for less than 6 month.
My advice to anyone looking at this camera is to run the other way.
Great gift for a child's first camera!.......2006-11-14
My ex bought this camera for my daughter who is 13 and promised if she could take care of it he would buy her a higher end camera. She's had it for a year now and it goes everywhere with her. It's great to take to school outings with her friends, to the beach, or anywhere else she wants to go. You have to be in very bright light for it to work, but you can't beat the portability. The quality is good enough for her and she posts pics on her MySpace all day long! LOL If you don't want to spend tons of money the first time out for your kids, this is a great option! It holds up to around 50 pics at a time!
Dead battery.......2006-10-27
I can no longer charge the battery. And there is no apparent way to change the battery. This is a piece of junk! Logitech should take it off the market.
