The machine works just fine. The sound quality is very good and the volume can be set high enough so calls can be screened from another room.

The written instructions for setting the time and day and other features are confusing. Instruction #2 should say "Press and hold SETUP until the system announces the feature you want to set, then release."

Nice except for voice quality.......2007-09-20

The 1738 is pretty nice except for the voice quality. It is not nearly as understandable as the old AT&T 1725 that I had until it fried. I'd get a 1725 if they still made it. The 1738 does have a nice feature in being able to replay the message at half speed or double speed. Unfortunately, you need the half speed option to understand the poor quality for some messages.

STOP! Try this first.......2007-09-18

I was very disappointed with this product initially because the incoming AND outgoing sound was so poor. It was basically useless. While searching for a different answering machine, I read a review by someone who thought of placing a DSL filter on the same phone line as the answering machine. I tried this and the machine works very well. The sound is good. This is a good value for someone who only need one mailbox.

Pretty good AM for a great price.......2007-09-10

It works just fine. Voice quality is OK, and the machine is relatively easy to use. The best part is that it has an audible alert that there are messages waiting; this is important to me since the machine is in the office. The audible alert is also the worst thing...it is really not very loud at all; easy to miss.

The visual alert of message waiting is also pretty good; it flashes when there is a new message and is on steady if there are old messages that you have heard. (It's off when there are no messages stored).

Interestingly, it uses flash memory for everything so no battery backup is needed. Of course that means the clock goes on a power failure. I think the clock freezes at the time of the failure but I'm not sure about that. There is a warning on the display that tells you the clock needs to be reset.

Caller ID is supposed to reset the clock but the instructions are a bit ambiguous. They imply that it keeps the clock synchronized once you set it, but says nothing about resetting after a power failure. I have not done that experiment yet...

workable, but disappointing.......2007-09-10

I am not so happy with this machine. My main complaint is that after the initial review of the message, it is, of course, numbered and saved. Suppose I had seven messages on the machine, my most recent message would then be saved as number eight. If I wish to listen to the most recent message again, I press "Play", and the message that plays first is message number one. I must hit "skip" seven times to get to the most recent message... quite annoying if one wishes to retain a number of messages on the machine.

Also, there is no way to backup when listening to a message, other than to replay the whole message again. If you miss a phone number, for instance, at the end of a long message, get comfortable, for you will need to review the whole darn message... after hitting "play" and "skip" a bunch of times, of course.

Voice quality of announcement is OK, not great, even using the remote access method of recording the announcement that one reviewer suggested.

And finally, it is inconsistent in the number of rings before pickup. I have it set at four and yet testing it from another line right now, I hear five rings on the phone itself, and then my Voice Mail service picks up, rather than this answering machine. I say inconsistent because it has picked up previously.

Listing these complaints has rekindled my anger, and I will now see if I can still return this product.

This stand is worthless! Not only did you have to put it together, but they did not even include the right parts! After a half-an-hour I finally realized that it was impossible to put this together because two of the main parts were missing!

I finally wound up throwing the whole thing in the trash! Don't waste your time and effort!

I just received this item and it's missing not only the screws, but also one of the bars is missing, and there is no instruction book or anything listing what should be in the box. After reading several of the other reviews, I will return this item and get my money back.

I would not recommend this item....not a very good track record. Save yourself the hassle and go by a decent stand at Best Buy.

One of the screw treads came out of the box stripped and now the stand wobbles, i hope my key board does not fall.

For all of you people who complained about missing screws, you are wrong. I also was mad at the fact that I couldn't find the screw bag inside the box at first, however, my friend found the screws to be attached at the bottom of the legs and you just have to unscrew them out of the legs.

It is misleading for them to do that because they could easily put the screws in a separate bag but I want to clarify that the stand does come with screws!

If you are a girl, I suggest you find a guy friend who is good at installing furnitures to help you to install this stand. The instruction is confusing and for an average girl it is almost impossible to get it right in a short amount of time. But my guy friend managed to install this thing within 30 mins and it works fine with my Casio PX 310.

The product is good for its price after all.
