Lots of power for a low price.......2004-05-28
What a great deal, this can best all the other PCs out there aside from the P4 Extreme Edition gaming rigs (which is NOT 64 bit, and 2x the cost). This uses a ASUS K8N8V-LA PES Nforce3-150 based board and it is loaded with features, and Compaq didn't cripple the BIOS as on previous models of Presario I have seen. Games run well with this card so if you are purchasing this PC great choice.
Downers: As a games I opted to upgrade to a Radeon card and ran in to problems and eventually blew away XP Home for XP Pro w/ the latest Nforce and ATI drivers and am much happier. My son is really happy also since I put in the Comapq's GeForce FX5200XT card in his system!! Also if you are going to overclock this BIOS seems to be more focused on stability than tweakability.
As a PC enthusiast I usually build my own systems however this value was too good to pass up. Compaq really did an excellent job with this model and I am 100% completely satisfied with my purchase, and since this is my first 64 bit system I will not be left behind when 64 bit OS is mainstream! And if you want 64 bit OS now, you can always go with SUSE or Fedora linux OS and you will have the fastest system on the block.
