Harman Kardon has always employed a high-current design in the amplifier section of their receivers. High current amps utilize larger transformers and transistors and are therefore better equipped to handle difficult speaker loads. The benefits to this type of technology are better reproduction of highs and lows and cleaner, crisper sound quality. Harman Kardon amplifiers exhibit full rated power response with very low distortion to beyond 80kHz. Ultrawide-Bandwidth requires selected output transistors not typically found in audio equipment. While there is no musical information present beyond the 20kHz region in current playback formats, a wide bandwidth amplifier has several audible benefits. Ultrawide-Bandwidth design contributes to superior imaging, an important stereo listening dimension, and a vital element in multichannel home theater systems. The AVR 300 is complete with Dolby Pro Logic, Dolby Digital, and DTS processors on board, as well as Hall and Theater DSP modes. Because of its sophistication, the AVR 300 does require some effort to set up. Thankfully, Harman Kardon's owner manuals are among the most clearly written and illustrated that we've seen. Additionally, the AVR 300's intuitive onscreen display and uncluttered, programmable remote control speed the setup considerably. Our only wish is that the universal remote was fully illuminated; the only the buttons that glow are the ones you're commanding at the moment.

The AVR 300's performance, however, is outstanding. Stereo recordings sound full and natural. This receiver offers a terrific sense of air with pinpoint placement of sonic images in the stereo sound field. Dynamics are well above average, thanks to Harman's High-Current Capability. High frequencies are silky smooth and the bass scores points for both definition and wallop.

Surround sources, whether Dolby Digital or DTS, are equally satisfying, enveloping you in a wide and seamless sonic environment that makes great surround-mixed music and movies much more compelling.

And if you've any reservations about the seemingly low 50-watt-per-channel power rating, surrender them now--the AVR 300's high-quality amplifier has power to spare, even with demanding source material.

The hk avr 300 is an excellent sounding 5.1 receiver.I picked it up on ebay for 75 bucks.The unit runs rings around most receivers under 400 bucks.The3 unit will not carry an hd signal,only s-video quality.If your looking for great sound at a low price,this may be the right unit for you.5 star rated.This unit can only be purchased used.If you are looking for 7.1 with hd please look elseware.Thank you for reading my review.from Stewart L.2/19/07 440pm est

High Quality and Versitile.......2000-12-11

I've had this unit for several months now and I love it. In comparing it with other models having the same features, I believe the slightly higher price is justifiable. There are plenty of audio inputs for the average user, and each channel (all 6) has a line-level output. Compared to other brands which only provide Center and Sub, or just Subwoofer line outs, this is a nice touch. The sound quality is excellent, even through lower-end speakers, and there's power to spare.

The multi-room feature may seem unneeded, but it's nice to have. You can send a line-level signal to another amp, and listent to the same thing in separate rooms. You can also have the HK send a different signal to the second room than you're currently listening to on the main channels. It would be nice to have more video switching inputs, since I have used them all at this point. I think the next model up (AVR500) has at least one more video option.

I've only had one problem with my AVR300, and that's heat. I had mine in a glass-front cabinet along with my other equipment, including a DVD palyer and computer. After enough time with everything running, the amp would cut out on one or more channels. I eventually removed the glass door, and haven't had any problems since.

Once in a lifetime purchase.......2000-05-24

For me, this is one of those well spent "Once in a lifetime" Purchases. The unit does everything I ever wanted an A/V system to do, plus much more. EXAMPLE: With it's on-screen display system, I can delay the sound output of any specific speaker to the nano-second so that every speaker delivers sound to my ears at the exact same time. It's spectral range goes below and above what the human ear can detect and is incredibly sharp on both ends, thanks to the reserve amps. From the rumble of a 747 take-off, to the high-pitched chirp of a bird in a surround speaker. Add to this no audible hiss or distortion at all, even at peak volumes. This unit also actually switches all of your Audio AND video feeds together with either coax, s-video, digital, or fiber cable inputs and outputs. This feature truly eliminates multiple remote controls for ALL of your other A/V components. After all of this techno-babble, the instructions were very clear and the unit was fairly easy to set up. It did take me a few hours, but the time spent was well worth it. This unit was built with top notch quality. You will probably never have to (or want to) purchase another reciever.

HMM.... SHOULD I GET THE HARMAN KARDON AVR300? , OR PAY LESS AND BUY THE SONY 935? . I ASKED MY SELF THAT SAME QUESTION, AFTER STUDYING BOTH OF THESE UNITS, LEARNING THAT THE HK300, HAS 40 AMPS X 5, AND THE SONY IS ONLY 8 AMPS, PLUS, THE ULTRA WIDE BANDWIDTH, PLUS THE 6 DISCRETE CHANNELS. AFTER MY STUDIES, I FIGURED A PAYING MORE FOR A RECIEVER THAT CAN POWER A DANCE CLUB WAS TOTALLY WORTH MY CASH.

The product is great, but the interface to Vonage softphone is challenging because the software does not load everytime. Once it is loaded and the setup is complete it works like a champ.

I have used software for 2 years and this is the best addition so far.

Worth the price and worth the time it takes to get it set up and much better than using a set of headphones with a mic, which was the solution I used before I got this item.

This Skype Voip phone does the job. You want a usb phone so you won't use your speakers and mic right? Well that's what this does. If your looking for a phone that looks nice and has advanced features and the send and end buttons actually work, then look some where else...this is not the phone you looking for..try looking at a usb phone that cost more than 15 dollars ! Basically this Skype usb phone works...broadband to broaband connection the sound is just like a lan phone or cell phone, it really is, you can't tell a difference. I basically plugged the usb phone into my Xp pro and it worked ! Didn't have to install any drivers at all. The phone comes with no instructions,just a mini disc....but if you know about Skype and are inquiring about getting a voip usb phone, then I'm pretty sure you call into the category of people who dont really need instructions to install a usb device. Bottom line is that the phone works, its under 20 dollars after shipping, and that's pretty much it...it DOES work with Skype 2.0

I recommend it to people who just want a simple usb phone for their Skype. If you don't know how to use the phone, find out by asking the seller for instructions or a peer....All you have to do is install usbdialer.exe that comes with the mini disk and pick skype. Its very simple !!!!!!!

The manual and "readme" files are poorly and hastily written. Voice quality is good.
Don't know which drivers to install to get the key pad up and running. No manufacturer's name /data on the phone. You can't even find AU-100 written anywhere on the phone.Seems the manufacturer wants to be anonymous and isn't interested in publicity.

Glad I got these phones!

After we discovered our son is sensitive to 2.4Ghz or higher frequencies (as most children are), and he was getting headaches from our wireless internet and 2.4Ghz phones we decided to go back to WIRED phones in the home.

These were the obvious choice, and I am happy with our choice! No complaints about this phone at all.

I sent it back. The price was right but the caller ID didn't function. When I got in touch with AT&T, they told me, maybe this phone is not compatible with the other phones in my home. (Stupid Response!) I then asked, why would AT&T put a phone on the market that's not compatible with my other phones, I didn't get a reply!!! They wanted to send me a replacement. I told them there is no point in doing that, if, the replacement phone was not compatible with my other phones! I guess AMAZON will be sending it back to AT&T.

Batteries Not Included.......2007-03-15

The description advertises no power cord required, and the box has large print stating "No AC Power Needed". Smaller print however notes that if you want the caller-id (which isn't back-lit) to function, that you need to provide 3 AA batteries.

The last thing I wanted was one more thing that required batteries.

Ordered 2 of these AT & T phone on 2/1/07. Received the phones in 1 day - today. Excellent service - Easy to hook up and I love the caller ID feature.

At Last!!! A New Style Phone That Has Some Weight To It!!!.......2007-01-31

I purchased two of this phone model, tried them out for a spell and like them. I am online RIGHT NOW to buy three more so as to get rid of all the other phones (except the 1960's wall phone still in mint condition).

New phones today are light weighted pieces of plastic that screech instead of ring, and fling around the table that they are set onto because they weigh less then an ounce (joking - I think they weight right at 1.25 ounces) Not this model...not at all...it's a fat pup with some meat on her.

In fact, besides feeling REALLY great in the hand from the stand point of ergonomics, they are smooth, rounded and curvy. Hey, they look sweet no matter what you put them on top of, and they stay put while walking around with my 50-feet cords (Self-purchased. The phone comes with a 6 or 9 foot cord - I am guessing). No sudden slipping to the floor by this phone and this is so because they are well built.

I'd venture to say that they are built to last. And, they are built heavy enough to hug that table top, arm-chair's arm or stack of magazines which is a MAJOR plus in my book. Of course any thing is going to hit the floor if you pull too hard. I miss those phones we used to get directly from the phone company when services were ordered. Man they were good phones.

Would I absolutely recommend this phone to you? As of this date I would have to say that I have found the phone to be the better, by a large margin, of the lot of flimsy, light-weighted, bird-chirping pieces of doo-doo owned as of this point. The caller ID uses three AA batteries and is very clear. It is located at the top of the phone's hand device, so, you may need to turn the phone a little to the side if you are lying down in bed. I really do not feel that having to do this makes the phone a no-go...as did a few others. Man, talk about having to have your cake, and eat-it-too!

The dial pad and Caller ID devices ARE NOT back-lit, which would have been an extra good touch as I hate trying to feel around in the dark for a ringing phone, but then again I have taught my family and friends what the difference is between what they call an emergency, and what I consider an emergency, and thereby good reason for waking me up. Violation of this rule, with those who know me, know is a very big OOPS! So, rarely is this an issue. So, there really isn't a need for a telephone night-light.

So, would I recommend this phone? Yes.
