Organize your voice mail with the AT&T 9450 cordless phone. Its digital answering system provides three separate voice mailboxes that are conveniently accessed from either the handset or the base.
To set up the 9450, we plugged in the AC outlet and phone jack, and allowed the battery to charge for the recommended initial 14 hours. The sturdy handset and base have intuitive buttons, and we found the functions easy to program without consulting the owner's manual. The base includes controls for the answering system along with a handset locator, indicator lights, and ringer options. The handset keypad includes controls for the answering system along with memory dialing, redial, flash, and mute buttons.
With three mailboxes, the 9450 is equipped to handle phone calls for a busy family or home business. Large, easy-to-read buttons control the answering system from the base or handset. The numbers on the handset keypad double as the controls. Thanks to the clearly marked buttons and voice prompts, we were quickly able to learn the phone's functions and to access its controls--just press the handset's answering system button and then select a function from the keypad. Retrieving your messages from the handset allows you to listen to them in private. You also have the option to repeat, skip, or delete them without returning to the base. Changing the greeting and even screening calls from the handset are performed just as easily. Note that each mailbox provides only four minutes of recording time.
In our tests of the 9450, we were able to use the phone up to 500 feet from the base before detecting significant signal breakup, and we went a total of 1,000 feet before losing the signal completely. We noticed some background static from all distances, but it wasn't overly distracting. The handset also performed well from another floor, outside, and near electronic equipment.
Other features include headset and hearing aid compatibility, selectable ringer options, and number memory. The 9450 stores up to 20 numbers that you can program from the handset and easily dial with the press of a button. --Emily Bakko

Good phone, good features.......2000-10-03
This is a very good phone and I'm glad I bought it. I'm a consistent AT&T phone buyer for the reliability and features. I like the new stationary antenna - no more pulling the antenna out or forgetting to push it back in before returning the handset to the base unit. Very clear reception - I don't notice any of the echo others have mentioned. Nice compact handset with well laid out buttons - easy to use - like the mute button. Only two negatives: 1. beeping when dialing is too loud - can't cover beeper/ringer hole on side with tape or the handset ringer is muffled - so I just cover with finger. 2. messages left by callers a little muffled though not to the point where you can't understand them - AT&T/Lucent needs to work on this.
Great phone except for one small piece of plastic.......2000-10-01
We've had this phone about a year, and really like it. The phone and answering machine controls are straightforward, and the clarity has been fine. It takes a beating (dropped many times) and has held out very well. My only complaint is that, when wall-mounted, the phone is held on by a piece of plastic about the size of 1/4 a toothpick. This piece broke off after about two months of being on the wall, and the phone will only now stay on the unit if we use a fix patch made from tape and a paperclip.

This phone has been very reliable. The only complaint I would have is that messages get cut off after 20 or so seconds, which is annoying. Otherwise, I think it's a great cordless phone.

This phone is wonderful. The clarity is superb. The answering system is easy to use and unlike another reviewer I found it very clear both making an announcement and playing back messages. The beep that some of the reviewers wrote about is not a big deal. It isn't that loud. I was torn before I bought the phone because of some of the reviews, but I have an AT&T analog phone and was very happy with it so I wanted to try another AT&T product. I gave it a try and am very happy I did. This is positively the best cordless phone I have ever had (and I've had plenty).
Good points and bad points.......2000-03-17
Got this phone, and returned it within 2 days. I did not detect any of the echo that some users complain about with DSS phones, and the overall sound quality was pretty good. There was, however, a faint yet constant hiss. It had pretty good range, 100 paces into the parking lot outside our apartment, but gave no warning when it cut out.
The answering machine part sounded really really bad. Both the outgoing message and the incoming messages were so garbled that they were completely unintelligible. Completely worthless! I don't know if we simply got a faulty unit, but I didn't risk getting another faulty one and switched brands instead.
But the WORST thing about the phone was the beep! Both the beep when you press a number on the handset and the beep when you press the buttons of the answering machine. It was incredibly loud and grating, and although you can change the ringer volume you can't change the beep volume. Another reviewer suggested placing your finger over the little hole in the side where the beeper is, which made it about right -- perhaps a little judicious use of tape or gum would do the trick. But the base unit uses the speaker itself to beep, so there was not workaround for that. The beep alone was reason enough to return it.

Buyer beware of outdated VCR.......2002-07-31
This is a very expensive VCR for what you get. Not only is it a 2001 (not a current 2002) model, it fails to adequately handle digital cable. When I experienced problems in set-up, JVC customer service recited canned answers that failed to address my problem and instead tried to place blame on everyone but their product. This was particularly annoying because I had called JVC before purchasing this model and was assured by them that this VCR would control the full range of digital cable channels in its timed recording menu. I was very clear about wanting to timer record channels in the 500 range. I even explained that I was concerned because the new RCA VCR model I have only allows timer recording of cable channels smaller than 100 (my cable box has channels to 957.) I do have a ten year-old Sony VCR that lets me timer record channels in the 500 range w/ no problem, so this capability cannot require current technology.
Despite the assurances of the JVC people, this model does not allow timer recording of channels above 199. Although that is a hundred more than my RCA, it isn't worth the extra money.
Great for watching old tapes.......2002-06-19
I had a first generation S-VHS machine, and so have a lot of old tapes. This machine helps a lot, including commercial tapes as well.
Beside time base correction, it adds digital color and line definition improvements plus noise reduction. 4MB memory compares the current picture frame with the previous frame. The picture is noticably better. In particular, the noisy color you usually see from VHS tapes for scene backgrounds and people's clothing is now gone.
Great home machine: audio level control for recording, flying erase, etc. Definite improvement watching old tapes, or for transferring old VHS and S-VHS to computer for editing. Dazzle Hollywood DV-Bridge and Pinnacle Studio 7 software work well with this JVC S-VHS feeding a signal.

Top of the line!!!.......2002-05-17
Not to put too fine a point on it, but I'm afraid the previous (and sole, to date) customer review is uninformed, to say the least.
He apparently was disappointed that he could not copy DVD's onto Super VHS. Well, NO VHS recorder is capable of that little function, due to an unbeatable Hollywood-approved copyguard system. As well, an "eject" button the remote is superfluous, since you have to walk up to the machine and remove it manually in any case.
I have two JVC video recorders, one VHS and the other Super VHS, and they are simply incomparable in terms of quality vs. price. JVC INVENTED the VHS system, and for this fellow to give it's Ferrari version only one star boggles the mind. If you can afford it, by all means run, don't walk, to your dealer and buy this magnificent and incomparable video tape machine!!
Beware.......2002-02-28
This... unit doesn't provide two important items: 1) Instructions for use with a DVD player. The word DVD does not appear anywhere in the instruction manual. Apparently it is not designed for use with DVD players. and 2) Recording from the cable input while viewing from another input source. The remote control doesn't have two important items: 1) An eject button. and 2) A jump station button.
