Although this works well enough, the sound level over a certain point becomes horrible. It's cheap, and that's what's good about it. I don't feel too bad if I beat it up a bit.

I ordered this for my daughter (6) who wanted to wake up to music on the radio. As it's hard to find a radio station locally that plays anything appropriate for a girl her age in the morning (and music), I thought this would be the way to go. Unfornately, the CD player wouldn't read CD's. These were commercial CD's, not CD-R's, but the disc would spin and the player didn't read it. In the meantime, we found something else in a brick and mortar store so decided to return instead of exchange this model. Amazon was great about the return.

My daughter received this item as a birthday gift a year ago. She used it very little. She was never happy with it because it's cumbersome and it takes up too much space in her very-limited dorm room. Her dad and I decided to buy it from her. We learned that the CD player has stopped working after only one year. Also, the sound quality is not optimal because the speakers hiss if the volume is not turned up loud. Since the CD player ceased functioning, I have a feeling other features will fail shortly. We are not pleased--and I would not recommend this item.

I purchased the iHome thinking that I was getting such a good deal on a great sounding portable iPod docking station and boom box. I was looking for something portable that I would be able to take with me into the bathroom for those long showers. I was pleased with it at first, but it has just become even more and more annoying. I love the fact that not only does it have the radio, but also CD player, and AUX capabilities. There are more flaws though than there are pros. The biggest flaw is the hissing noise it is known for making. Even when no iPod is connected or anything, there is a loud hissing noise that can be heard. It is quite annoying. Also, the speakers aren't very high quality. The bass has to be turned all the way down for the system to have at least some clarity in the music. When the bass is all the way up, you can forget about it. It just sounds like a big, loud, clattering noise that is rather annoying. I wouldn't purchase this if you're looking for a good quality iPod player, spend the extra money and buy something nicer with a better sound. If you're using it for small periods of time, such as in the shower, it's a good buy.

The static sound is constant no matter what volume or if you're playing from CD, IPOD or Radio. Radio reception is bad too. These are easy things to get right. The manufacturer must have had to cut some pretty serious corners to foul this up.

I received this as a Christmas gift December 2006. February 2007, it stopped working completely. Will not turn on, eject the CD that's currently in it, or play anything -- radio, iPod, CD, etc. I do not have the receipt anymore, and am going to have to trash it. I do NOT recommend this product, nor any other products by this manufacturer.

Cassette players are hard to come by and I wanted one to play tapes without the earphones. Books are best on the tapes. However this item does not work on the battery mode. Tried everything to get them to make contact and work. The machine still functions by plugging it in. but not what I had in mind when purchasing it. I am sorry I did not return it and then investing in a better product.

Just purchased GPX's PDL 805 to play Region 1 and 2 DVDs. The product description specifies it will play both NTSC and PAL. It DOES NOT. I tried to get technical support from the seller (no luck) AND from the maker - GPX.com. GPX's technical support told me it will play European DVDs only when ... hooked up to a PAL TV! Needless to say I didn't get a portable DVD player to keep it connected to a TV. What a bunch of nonsense. Don't buy it if you want to play PAL DVDs.

The sound quality is complete crap. There is absolutely NO bass and when you try to turn up the volume the speakers crackle and cut out. I was excited about this radio because it is mp3 ready and came with the jack to connect my mp3 player. When I connected my mp3 player I was shocked to discover that the sound quality could get even worse than it already was. I actually like the design and I guess since I will be using it in my office at low volume it will serve its purpose, but I still wish I wouldnt have wasted what little money this costs.

I see amazon has since changed the display picture, when i ordered it they had something completly different, cause if i knew it looked like this I would have never bought it. Anyway, the sound quality is bad, it's sounds like an old transistor radio especially when the sound is turned up. I can never get any radio reception on it so I guess it's not good in that regard either. I had to end up giving this to my 3 yr old son to play his cd's and buy a better one, i cause for that price i should not have expected much.

The GPX radio is sure worth the money. I was reluctant to spend a lot more for a Sony. It has convienent pre set memory locations for AM and FM which is handy when exercising or runnning, no fiddleing with the tuning! Earphones are lightweight and comfortable. The radio fits in the palm of your hand or can be clipped to your shorts or fastened to your arm.

I guess you get your money's worth for this little AM/FM Radio.
I was looking for an AM/FM radio that is inexpensive and I could use when I'm working out. I bought the GPX at the neighborhood Fry's. I took it home and tested it, and found quite a few problems with it. First, the lcd display is unintelligible. All I see are squiggly lines that does not even look like any recognizable stations or for that matter numbers. Second, the reception is very poor. I only get stations from the opposite end of the FM band; which, in our area are Spanish radio stations. Third, when I use it indoors (inside a gym), the reception is non existent.
The only thing nice about this little gadget is the looks. It looks rather expensive and very cool outside but I have no doubt that inside, it's nothing but subpar components. I guess there's a difference in quality as far as electronics goes between made in Japan (Sony electronics) vs. made in China. Unfortunately, everything seems to be made in China these days.
Armband/belt clip useless.......2005-03-13
Overall the radio is not bad for a small little radio, but the armband is very small, wont fit most men, and is not durable. The belt clip is a poor design in that it un clips its self from the radio when you clip it on a thicker belt. sound is good but the reception is only fair at best
Poor Design and Poor Performance.......2005-02-03
I was looking for a cheap little FM radio with digital tuning that I could use to walk around the house with headphones on and this little device fit the bill.
When I got it home and opened it up one of the first things that I noticed was that the interface was poorly designed. When looking at the display you'll notice that the buttons are upsidedown. Not a big deal, it'll take a bit of getting used to but in all, not well thought out and kind of annoying.
Also the volume dial is just next to where you put the headphone jack so the headphone jack kind of gets in the way when you try to adjust the volume. Another example of poor design.
The final problem (a real show stopper) is the performance. I had problems picking up all but a few of the stations with very strong signals and got a lot of static as I moved around. Unfortunately the stations that I was able to pick up were not the ones that I wanted so I think I'm going to have to return this and pick something up that has a bit of a higher price.
GPX fails.......2005-01-22
Bought this for my daughter who really wanted to listen to 1560 AM and various FM stations. AM reception very poor especially in the car. FM reception is sporadic. Had to return it. Still looking for something that will work that is reasonably priced.

We had an older GPX under counter CD player/radio from 2003 which had a really hard to turn dial for the radio tuning, and it was just bulky and no good. This one is WONDERFUL! We love the preset radio station settings, the slim design, and remote control. Best of all, it actually comes with an FM antenna wire, so that reception is a lot better than even the expensive Sony under counter units that use the power cord as the antenna. Best of all, the price is amazing. GREAT VALUE!

This radio could be better.
The Pros:
Cost - this radio was realtivly inexpensive at around $35
Features - Radio, CD, MP3 player hookups (no docking though), programable memory sets, and remote control.
Ease of installation - The system installs pretty easily with a corless drill.
The Cons:
Poor Quality - The speakers sound like they are about to blow even at moderate sound levels. As long as you don't turn them up too loud you will be ok. Although the sound quality in general leaves a lot to be desired.
Annoying Volume Control - whenever you switch the radio on it preset the volume to 17 (wich is pretty loud) so you have to get your ears blasted every time.
So if you are on a budget, or don't like music too loud, it is a good buy.

I bought it 4 months ago, but didn't install it until about a month ago. I listen to audiobooks, which means leaving the unit on "pause" for hours at a time sometimes (maybe not a great idea, electricity-wise, but it's never caused a problem for a CD player before). The unit simply turned off and doesn't turn back on now, and there's a CD trapped inside. I called customer service, who told me that a transformer might have blown and that it's out of warranty (which was fine with me, it would not be worth the hassle and cost of shipping it just to get another one of these lemons). They had no ideas as to how to get the CD out, other than "call a repairman" (no thanks, I've got a hammer.) They did say if I send them the unit plus $30, they'll send me a new one. Not likely!

The unit I purchased worked fine for 3 weeks. Then I had a problem. However, the manufacturer was wonderful and it is on it's way back to them. Disappointed that it cost me $14.00 to insure and send back though. Thought that they should have paid!

it is cheap, and it is not even worth it at that price. Got it last year as a gift..then I had to spend extra money to get the xm antenna separately. Clumsy and awkward to deal with. I rarely used it, and as of yesterday it wont work at all.. not even am or fm signal. Forget this one unless you don't mind trhowing away your money.
Good XM/CD/FM/AM Boombox ...... If you plan to leave it in one place........2007-03-21
I bought this boombox knowing the possible XM antenna jack failure, It did not matter to me because I would not be moving it. If you are wanting a Mobile XM boombox to carry around with you get the Belkin F5X007 for the Roady XT or Audiovox Xpress. THIS IS NOT A "TRULY" MOBILE XM BOOMBOX!!
With a 50ft xm antenna cord and the jack sticking out so far It;s more a mini-home unit rather than a boombox. But for a simple ALL IN ONE XM/FM/AM/CD boombox ,this is a good radio.

This radio is truly a cheap product. The first one I had never worked with the XM Antenna - I returned it and the seond one promtply stopped working as well. Don't waste your money on this one.

I bought this GPX XM ready radio and it worked fine for a little over a month. Always had to be careful when moving the radio when I had the XM antenna connected to it. The antenna sticks out when connected to the XM jack and is very FRAGILE! One bump and your XM radio antenna jack is ruined but the AM and FM is still O.K. but who cares, no more XM. The Sound Quality was so-so even during the short time that it did work.
I have since bought a new XM AUDIO SYSTEM distributed by the Belkin Corporation. All I can say is I wish I would have spent a little more the first time and got the Belkin instead of the GPX. There is no AM or FM (who cares) and the XM music is crystal clear with the Delphi RoadyXT. It really sounds excellent and plenty of volume. Before I forget the XM antenna jack is recessed on the back of the case! Who ever that engineer was, must be a smart thinker!
P.S. I'll never buy another GPX product.
