With its 853 x 480 native pixel resolution, the PD-42WV74 is an EDTV monitor, which means it takes you a step closer to high-definition TV than standard TVs. It's compatible with full HDTV signals, however: when used with a progressive-scan DVD player, high-resolution satellite receiver, or DTV set-top box, it will deliver seamless, razor-sharp images from your favorite movies and concert videos. An HDCP (High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection) enabled DVI input for a direct-digital connection with your HD source component.

With a plasma screen you get vivid colors like you've never seen before, extremely wide viewing angles (wider, even, than those of most LCD screens), and easy placement due to a plasma monitor's slim profile--the PD-42WV74 is a mere 4.25 inches deep, perfect for desk or wall mounting. (It comes with a matching pedestal stand for desk or table positioning.) Brightness tends to be extremely uniform across plasma screens, which are also impervious to the picture distortion and negative color balances that afflict CRT monitors when placed near lighting or sound systems.

The set's 16:9 aspect ratio is specially configured to match the dimensions of HDTV broadcasts and your favorite movies. Choose from panorama, cinema, full, and regular aspect modes, depending on your viewing. You also get JVC-exclusive digital four-point color-management circuitry and high-end Digital Super Detail (DSD) edge-correction circuitry. Selectable velocity scan modulation improves the definition at picture edges, creating sharper images by slowing the horizontal scanning during demanding work--say, when rendering transitions from light to dark parts of an image--and speeding it up when scanning easily rendered sections, like broad dark areas.

The PD-42WV74 also performs 3:2 pulldown detection using JVC's Natural Cinema feature. DVD mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; reverse 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture.

Other technologies include White Character Correction circuitry, Auto VNR (video noise reduction), Digital Noise Clear circuitry, and black-level expansion. A choice of five video status modes (Theater, Dynamic, Game, Standard, and TheaterPro D6500K) let you tailor the image to your presentation and environment.

For viewing conveniences, you'll love the set's high-contrast, icon-based onscreen display, interactive plug-in menu, single-tuner split-screen PIP (with zoom, POP, and 12-channel multi-indexing), XDS channel ID display, XDS auto clock set, multi-function timer, sleep timer, 10-minute auto shut-off, parental controls (including front-panel lock, V-Chip, and channel guard), and hyper-scan high-speed channel changer with Return+.

Great for back-ups.......2003-06-30

The extra storage works great for backing up large amounts of data. Can be easily moved to different computers for transferring files or creating and restoring back-ups. Drive is plug and play so it is easy to set up. Sometimes Windows 98 willhang up or freeze during long periods of USB Drive inactivity but this seems to be a Windows problem not Buslink.

Just the ticket.......2003-03-27

Even though I have an 80gb hard drive on my PC, I have a ton of music that was taking up space I wish it didn't. The Buslink L40 is just what I needed. It may not be as fast as an internal harddrive, but it's just as fast other backups I've used. I may buy a couple more and create more space than I'll EVER need! Great price, great product.

Works great... Until the warenty runs out.......2003-02-22

This product worked perfectly until the very day the warenty ran out. After that it stoped working all togather. I was on the phone with tech support (long distance) for an hour before i was informed that i will have to send the hard drive back to them to have it repaired (shipping and repairs both at my expence). 130 bucks may seem like a good deal but after all these expences it is more like 190 bucks. Not to mention all of the information that was on the hard drive is now lost.

Disgruntled.......2003-01-05

I was all excited about this so I could start a Photo Library Separate from my actual Computer. I was installing this to use with a Gateway Solo 9300 LapTop that is just over 2 years old.

I could not get this to install on my machine. I worked with Buslink, and they could not figure this out, and sent me back to Gateway. I installed this successfully onto another Gateway LapTop with no problems. Buslink did Not want to hear that and still didn't want to work through the problem so they sent me to Gateway. Needless to say it is on its way back.

My Point.... VERY POOR SUPPORT FROM BUSLINK... LOOK ELSEWHERE

Archiving Drive.......2002-10-10

I would give this product 5 stars, but it's a bit too slow for that. My 60GB drive was easy to install (less than 5 minutes). It's great for archiving data. I wouldn't recommend it for people needing to transfer large files (300mb or more) from one computer to another on a regular basis. This is a slow drive (USB 1, 5400rpm). It takes about 10 minutes to transfer a 700mb video file from my internal drive onto it. (Smaller file sizes seem to trasnfer more quickly.) However, this is a great low cost option for those, like myself, with large video and audio libraries to archive. It takes a while to move all your files onto it, but once moved you don't lose anything in the way of video or audio playback. So, for the low cost you are sacrificing speed, but you are getting a lot of archive space. If you want faster, you should try USB 2 or Firewire.

Great product.......2000-11-28

This is a great product for a small network setup. It gives you the ability to turn off any one device or an entire chain of protected devices with the push of a button. I have many USB devices that essentialy stay on all the time including things like a scanner with a bulb that will eventualy fail. I used to have to crawl under my desk to turn this and other devices off at the switch but can now manage my networks power from a small stack of Power Authority II surge suppresors. Unlike some of the cheapy protectors out there this one has LED's to show you exactly what devices are on or off. It also has LED's to show you that the line is grounded and protected. A few other bonuses are the facts that this product has a small grounding plate on the front that can be used to discharge static from yourself as you prepare to work on electrostatic sensitive devices. And of course there is a phone in/out for modem and fax line suppresion as well. Definatly worth the money.

I purchased this product because the price was great for the amount of protection it offers. I had a power outage and my Belkin worked like a charm! No harm to my CPU whatsoever! I reccommend this product to whoever wants peace of mind of keeping their electronics safe at a great price.
