Cobra's FRS 220-2 is a family radio service (FRS) walkie-talkie. The external slide switch allows you to talk on all of the 14 available FRS bands, and it includes 38 sub-bands per channel. And with 500 milliwatts of output power, the Cobra FRS 220-2 transmits as well as higher-end models. With a two- mile range, this walkie-talkie is well suited for most family outings.

An audible incoming-call alert lets one unit ring another to initiate a conversation, and the talk-confirmation tone indicates the completion of your transmission and signals others that it's clear to talk. a while ago, i saw a pair of walkie talkies in my friend's room and we decided to play with them. We stuck a pair of headpones in each, and we went into the woods behind his house and started spying on his neighbors. This was a whole new thing for me, and it was unbelievably fun. Soon after, I got myself an upgraded pair of his, which are the walkie talkies you're looking at. The range hasn't failed me yet, and I've gotten pretty far from the other walkie talkie. Also, it has a great lock feature, which lets u put it in your pocket or quickly grab it withouth worrying that u changed the channel or volume or something. This has saved me a great deal of time while spying. The function of going into those subchannels didn't have and effect on blocking out my friend's early model of these, but whatever. All in all, you should definately buy these walkie talkie over any others.

Great for Trips!.......2002-07-21

We took our 220s to Disney World and it made the trip much more relaxed. When my husband and I took the kids to separate areas of the park, we could instantly communicate if there were long lines or a change in plans. Even though lots of people were using them, we had no trouble finding a clear channel without others on "our" line. Now I use them to monitor the kids while they're out playing in the neighborhood. Just one beep and they know it's time to come home, and it gives me peace of mind to know they can call if they need help.

Just bought these radios. So far they are everything they were advertised to be. Wife and I tested the range from vehicle to house in suburban setting, consistently over 1 mile range. The radios are very easy to operate and work well with the other radios I have tested them with(Motorola and Radio Shack). I found these to have better clarity than the Motorola's as well. Battery life is about as advertised and with the NiCad battery charging time is about 3 hours. There are radios out there with more features but my five star rating is based on getting what you pay for.

Added peace of mind for a Mom.......2001-03-24

I picked this up so that my 11 year old could carry it with him when he goes out to play in the neighborhood. Whether he is outside or in a friend's house the communication between us is crystal clear. The radio is small enough to fit in his pocket or can be clipped to a belt. I don't have to wonder where he is or how he's doing anymore. I can find out in a second. I suspect the neighbors appreciate my not having to yell out the doors and windows for my son anymore or having to call their houses to see if he's there. My son likes not having to ask to use a phone and not having to run home with a quick question. We are very pleased with this purchase and feel it was worth every penny.

killer radios.......2001-02-14

i bought the cobra 220 radios for a ski trip. the first thing you notice about them is the size. the radios are extremely compact and can fit in your back pocket. they come with a belt holster. it is made of plastic and is flexible so as to allow the radio to snap in place. in my opinion, the holster is flimsey. i did not trust it to a fall while skiing and just carried the radio in my pocket. the radios are solid. cobra did not skimp on the plastic. these units do not feel soft at all.the reception was exceptional. these radios operate on all 14 channels of the frs band and have 38 subcodes. these subcodes do not actually give you extra channels. what they do it block out transmissions on the same channel that do not have a matching subcode. this sounds great at first, but it does have some drawbacks. since you do not hear communications from others with different subcodes, it is possible to transmit over another transmission on the same frequency. in this case, the person at the other end will not hear you clearly, if at all. the radio has an end of transmission beep. it is at times quite annoying, and there is no way to turn it off. all in all, these radios exceeded my expectations.

Driver disaster.......2003-03-26

When I tried to install this product's software on a laptop running ME, the driver repeatedly crashed the entire system. After several calls to support, I was convinced that perhaps its was an OS problem. I spent *all evening* archiving my data, reformatting my hard drive and doing a clean install of the system. The result? The exact same crash.

As far as I can tell, this is a half-assed product that was rushed to market without really testing the software. It's clearly not even remotely compatible with ME if it crashes the entire system when the system is cleanly reinstalled and untouched. It gets 1 star because one of the tech support people was actually helpful.

Flawless performance - PC + Mac.......2002-11-12

Not sure if there is much difference between wireless cards - big difference seems to be in drivers. I was looking for a card that would work with both Mac and PC laptops. The Buffalo card has Mac drivers on its website - installed and working great with a cheap-o SMC access point (which also can be configured on a Mac, by the way). Have yet to see any issues with the thing - I use it for about 20 hours/week and it's rock-solid.

I liked it until it died.......2007-07-13

I really liked this MP3 player when I first got it, except for the color. It was darker in person that it showed on the computer. Besides that, the MP3 player worked great. It was my first one I had gotten and it was easy enough to use since I mostly used it for workouts and just let it play in order. The first problem I had early on was that it would get stuck after 1 certain song I had on it. At first I thought it was just the song because I would power it off then power on and it would work fine on the next song. I probably had it about a year to a year and a half before one day it just stopped working. At first I thought it was the battery because it kept powering off, but when I put new batteries in it, it wouldn't turn on.

It might have been that it could have been easily fixed, but I just would rather go buy a new one instead of dealing with the hassle of fixing it for the price it cost.

Cheap, highly functional MP3 player........2007-01-28

The FM receiver is extremely insensitive. You practically have to climb the transmitter mast and skewer the thing on the antenna in order to get it to receive a decent signal. Other than that, it's great. Battery life is about 2 weeks or so playing MP3s at reasonable volume for 4 hours a day. Sound quality is better than expected for something packaged in a tiny block of molded plastic. You will probably want better headphones than the ones that come with it, but the included ones are good for working out with, since you really won't care if you get them sweaty. Of course, it would be better with more storage. It is extremely lightweight. Having owned a number of personal stereo type devices over the years, this is the only one that I consistently use. The reason is that the size and weight make it convenient to be wired for sound nearly anywhere at any time. I can easily stick it in any pocket while wearing the earphones, and forget that it is there. (Aside from the fact that it is playing music in my ears.)

Great Mp3 Player.......2006-07-26

I had this Mp3 player for 1-2 years before I got my Ipod Nano. I never found anything wrong with it, and for the price I still think it is more worth the value than an ipod. I always reccomend the Creative over the ipod to friends on a limited budget. Here are a few pros and cons that I have noticed.

Pros:

1. This thing is TINY. Easily fits in your pocket, but just big enough to feel it (so you know its still there).

2. Very durable (Especially with the case).

3. Good Sound, never had a problem with scratchy noises or anything.

4. Voice recording is really cool, saves as a WAV file that you can upload on your computer.

5. FM/AM radio has very good reception.

6. The software that comes with it is awesome. Click and drag ripping similar to itunes, but better in that you can convert WAV and other audio formats into Mp3s (Very helpful).

7. Great battery life (better than my iPod's)

Cons:
1. Small screen (but this isn't really a problem considering how small the whole thing is).

2. No playlists, you have to scroll through every single song to find the one you want. I found this a little tedious, but it wasn't that bad because you can go through each song in like 1/2 a second (although that is a problem when you have a couple hundred songs).

Those are the only two cons that I can think of. Oh, and my headphones were magnetic for some reason, I don't know if anyone else's are like that, but thats kindof cool. Overall, I think the pros definetly outweigh the cons, and I would say for the great price, its one of the best out there.

Creative Labs does not offer customer support.......2006-06-01

Purchased this MP3 player in April 2005. Worked great for twelve months - then I had a problem - it was stuck in FM mode, and I could not turn it off (unless I pulled out the batteries each time). Went to the Creative Labs web site for support - nothing there to help my situation - then I sent an email - and they told me that they WOULD NOT ASSIST ME, and then refered me back to the web site. They also gave me a phone number to call - but that IT WOULD COST ME [...] EVERY 30 MINUTES OF "SUPPORT" THAT THEY PROVIDE!!!!
So now my MP3 player is no longer functional, and I need to buy a new one.

Does not work well with XP.......2007-01-25

I have had this scanner for several years and it worked very well and does a nice job of scanning.

Any buyers should be warned that it will NOT work with XP with the included drivers. Even with new drivers, the scanner only works marginally often requiring a reboot of scanner and/or computer to scan a second document.

POS Scanner.......2004-08-28

This scanner will sacan for you once there will be about a 2% chance that the image is not covered with lines. after that windows will pop up and say that the USB device is not regonized and youll have to uninstall and reinstall the drivers.

Great scanner at a GREAT price.......2003-10-09

I love my scanner. I got it last Christmas and have been using it non-stop without any problems ever since. I did have a little trouble hooking it up at first, but it turned out that I wasn't reading the directions as well as I should have been. So that was my fault, not theres. It is easy to operate and I love the programs that come with! They are great for picture making! Great product! Very happy that I got it.

Outstanding scans of platen materials..........2003-10-06

I have used this scanner for a little over a year now, and it really provides incredible results on printed and other opaque materials. Colors are very true (perhaps a slight warming on the color-temperature, as others have mentioned), and sharpness is fantastic. The scan-times were relatively slow, but an upgrade to a USB 2.0 card on my computer (cost me about $20) solved that problem. Scans times are very acceptable now. I have never had much use for the OCR software, but it seems intuitive enough and does a decent job. The rest of the software is not used much either (aside from the drivers, of course). My only beef: the transparency scanner is not what it was cracked up to be. The few negative scans I have made did not come out so well, and the reported competency of the integrated transparency scanner was one of the selling points for me. Maybe this is as good as it gets for a flatbed with an adaptor, but if you really want to get good results with transparencies, get a dedicated film scanner.

I am pleased with the scanner and as far as I know it will do what it is suppost to do . If you by one you need to make sure that you have alot of ram because you will need it . I have not learned all the functions that it has but it has preformed well . I don't like the fact that canon does not have a toll free number to call if you need help .

My new school forced me to get a scientific calculator after using a graphing calculator (TI-83) for several years. Using this calculator is a breeze. I now prefer to use it over my TI. The natural textbook display allows one to input a long formula error free. I highly recommend this calculator.

good calculator gone cheap.......2006-11-10

Very good calculator. I have been using it for college math and I have yet to find anything negative about it. I broke my last calculator which was 3 times the price of this one but this one comes equipped with a hard plastic cover which slides on and off. It stays on too; pretty impressive. It has a two line display and a memory cache so if you make a mistake, forget how to complete a previous problem, or you write the answer down wrong, you can scroll through your previous calculations to find what you need. Not bad for 10 bucks.

I was surprised to find that Amazon directed me to to the fx-300MS page when I searched for fx-300ES. They are not the same calculator.

I prefer not to rate the MS version, but I must do so to bring forward this post. The item I have is the ES version.

The major difference between the MS and the ES is the display.

I AM REVIEWING THE FX-300ES (NOT THE MS THAT YOU MAY HAVE LANDED ON). If there was a page for for ES, I would give it a 4/5.

The ES has a large multi-line dot matrix display. I bought it becuase it will let me review my entries and correct them. Perfect for balancing the checkbook... it allows one to review and correct mistakes.

At $12.99 at Costco, the fx-300ES is a good value just for that capability. Most 'regular' sub $20 calculators do not allow you to go back, reivew, and correct.

I've already got a multi-line advanced scientific calculator... but I am not going to use it to balance my checkbook! It is kept safe for engineering.

Still, I should note that the fx-300ES is a decent algebraic calculator, well suitued for even a high school student.

It has one major flaw that I can see after a few hours of ownershiop. I hope these 'text' algebraic expressions will be clear. I would not know this if I had not read the manual.

I advise anybody buying a 'serious' calculator to see if they can download the manual from the manufacturers' Web site. Depdending on mode and method of entry, a simple epression my yield unexpected results on this calculator. Fortunately, this aspect is clearly documented.

Example:

3 / 2 * pi = 4.7~ (evaluated correctly L to R)

3 / 2pi = 4.7~ (evaluated incorrectly, not respecting adjacency of the constant)

3 / (2pi) = .47~ (evaluated correctly)

In linear mode:
3,2pi
again not respecting that 2pi must be evaluated first

In math mode (only if fractional entry is used... a nice feature):
3
-----
2pi
= .47~

(correct as if it were written)

It should be noted that this calculator it is not good for programmers who need binary, hex, etc.

the class all got ti 30 but i had this from long ago and i find i can do everything just as good as them and i can do it faster but i think that is 'cause i use it longer. a little tricky to figure the function protocols but do-able. i do the regular maths stuff: exponentiation, conversions rect <=> pol, and rest of it
