Now, to be fair, i purchased this player less than a month ago on e-bay for $50 so i know i got my moneys worth compared to every other review here, because you cant buy a 20 gig laptop hard drive for $50 and therefore the fact that this brick plays mp3s and radio is well.. irrelivant in cost to me hehe. i am unsure of the firmware with this one, and the primary issue that anyone should have is the fact that the company is now long out of buisness and there is no access to any of the firmware updates (if anyone has the firmware .zip write me or something please!) otherwise, this machine is worth the price, it looks uncannily like an 80's walkman, and honestly feals like a walkman: cheep plastic over some heavy metal. this player packs a punch once you get used to its quirks, but heres the bottom line: no DRM issues thus far. it IS compatable 100% with windows media player, but installs live like a portable hard drive, it does "compile" the files once they are copyed over and this can take an incredably long time, but remember the primary advertised feature? that special little bit about being able to use a beat and rythem algorithm to generate playlists of similar songs? what, you think the machine was psychic?

despite the freezing issue (on bad mp3's which no one else mentions was their songs not their player...) there is the cutest little paperclip reset button on the bottom, and this machine has already sustained a heavy beatin on more than one occation (i am an overnight stocker, this thing has met alot of pallets) and keeps going. its ugly and clunky but i think the best possable word to describe the entempo rubato:

The Good:

Loads of space for a comparably great price. Thorough menu.

The Bad:

IT IS SO UGLY. For some of you, this wont matter. But if you care AT ALL about aesthetic appeal, do not go the Entempo Rubato route. Every time someone sees me with it, they laugh and think I'm using a cassette player! I swear, this thing was a BRICK in a past life.

Also? The font on the screen is garbly-looking and difficult to read. The fact that the font is also extremely small doesn't help.

I thought it would be easy to use because it's a drag-and-drop type of thing when it comes to adding songs. WRONG. This thing is a PAIN IN THE BUTT to use, especially the first time. It does this awful "indexing" thing after you put songs on it that takes a ridiculous amount of time. Why does it do this? I don't understand. I've used cheaper piece-of-garbage MP3 players that never had to do this. I thought quickly getting the songs on was the WHOLE POINT of a hard drive type of MP3 player?

Also? It really SUCKS if you have good hearing and you use this MP3 player. Why? Because I listen to music on the lowest possible volume...anything higher than that hurts my ears. This is BAD when using the Rubato, however, because there's always this awful electronic sound in the background. It's harder to notice on louder songs, but on quiet or acappella songs it's so frustratingly bad I want to cry. Also, everytime I bump it into something...it makes this little beepy sound. Yeah, great.

Lastly? The buttons and "scroller" are disgusting. I'm only 12, and even *I* think I could design buttons better than that. How about a clickwheel? Or a scrollwheel? No...instead we get this horrible twitchy little slider button that you have to push far too hard than is convenient.

My final statement? Lots of memory for a cheap price. But that's no big deal, when something is this crappy and sinfully ugly. Seriously. It is SO ugly.

Not the best- you get what you pay for..........2005-09-22

Cons: Did not like the very, very small characters on the display. You have to squint to read the display. The radio has terrible reception. The forward button does not forward fast enough for Podcast forwarding. Does not allow you to bookmark a spot on a Podcast. The nylon case does not have a belt clip. The side buttons need to be pressed too hard to use.
Pros: I like the price and the capacity. But had to send back because of mainly the small character display...

A good, cheap solution for portable music........2005-09-21

I bought the Rubato for one reason and one reason alone: it was the cheapest 20GB MP3 player I've come across in my quest for portable music. Others writing reviews on here seem to expect to pay Geo Metro prices and receive Rolls Royce quality, and whether consumer electronics or cars, this is simply not the case.

The good:
* 20GB of capacity, not much bigger than an iPod, and much cheaper
* NO drivers or proprietary software to install (unless you really want to, it does come with MusicMatch and a few other programs)
* USB 2.0 makes for *fast* transfers. (Anybody complaining about transfer speeds when copying 20GB of music needs to go look at th average sustained transfer speed of a modern hard drive... it's about 5MB / sec... the drive is the bottleneck here, not the USB connection.)
* Aside from a bit of background noise (from the screen backlight, hdd spinning up), the sound quality is amazingly good, especially when played through a good-quality set of headphones (I'm using Sennheiser HD-497's).

The bad:
* Looks and feels cheap (what do you expect, you spent < $200 on a 20GB MP3 player?)
* Player takes a while in "index" songs after transferring (this is the price you pay for not having to install software on your PC, the player does all of this instead of your fast computer)
* Background noise, more/less noticable depending on the medium that its being played through. Certain things (tape adapter in the car, cheap headphones) tend to bring this out more. The noise is almost unnoticable on my Sennheisers.

Conclusion:
All in all I feel this is a solid buy in the sub $200 range for those looking for capacity but without a lot of money to spend. I haven't had mine long enough to comment on long-term durability, and from initial impressions I don't think I'd want to drop it from more than about 6", but only time will tell. If cost and capacity are your main criteria and you don't expect your player to see much abuse, this is the player for you.

Basic Economy Player w/ a few extras.......2005-06-22

I purchased the Rubato Entempo about 2 weeks ago. I already
knew from looking at pics online that it was basically a bare-
bones "no frills" player. However, I wanted something simple anyways
. I've already waisted money on a Rio HP-310 and various Creative
mp3 players that eventually crapped out on me, so the Rubato
couldn't be much worse. The good points about the Rubato is
that has decent sound, easy navigation, and musicmagic mixer
- the latter of which gave me the impetus to get it. The drawbacks
are many! The LCD graphics are drab and basic. The play/forward/rewind/pause
touchpads are on the front making them awkward to get to. It's not
very attractive, gaps are too long between tracks, etc.
However, I'm pleased with what I got for the 200.00 bucks I shelled out.
If you're a very decernable consumer who wants everything but the kitchen
sink in your player, you've come to the wrong place. Check out the lastest
model from Cowon that looks like a good buy for the extra high price.

Buy the extended warranty!!!!.......2005-07-11

Initially the tv was ok. The picture and resolution were decent. The TV comes with a one year warranty. I'm 18 months in and the panel has apparently blown leaving me with a permanent black bar through the middle of the screen. What's worse is Gateway is aware of this problem yet offers no solution and no support. The tv has been rendered worthless and I'm now shopping for a new (non-Gateway) model.

I got this tv last week and i am pretty happy about it. It has nice cool features but it's a bit expensive as this technology is still evolving. I bought this a little cheap by getting a 5% cashback through www.perfectrebates.com. These people gave me 5% as a cashback. So it turned out to be a good deal for me.

From the perspective of one whose only hand suffers from both arthritis and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, I rate the ROBERTS BOOK HOLDER, the BOOK BUTLER, and the Fellowes Book Lift Copyholder in 4 areas:

1. Ease of putting a book in the holder

2. Ease of turning pages

3. Holder's ability to keep book open

4. Major Strength/weakness

However, I will first describe the ROBERTS BOOK HOLDER, the BOOK BUTLER, and the Fellowes Book Lift Copyholder:

The ROBERTS BOOK HOLDER occupies 7.5 x 14 inches of table space, does not provide any elevation, but does permit placement of pegs at various widths and depths. It is very stable, and cannot tip over. Its pegs are not parallel to the book's pages, and are about 1 inch high.

The BOOK BUTLER occupies about 7 inches of width and about 8 in depth. Its pegs are 3/4 inch high, and the pegs are parallel to the pages, which means there is only a very minor chance of pages slipping past the pegs. This would only happen if the book was very stiff or if it were a hardback whose cover extended much more than 3/16th of an inch below the bottom of the pages. It has springs to hold its pegs snugly against the pages. The BB also elevates the book about 2 inches above the tabletop. Its metal rod may be inserted to hold books at two different angles: 45 or 15 degrees.

The The Fellowes Book Lift Copyholder is 11 5/8 wide and has an adjustable angle that can be varied to 5 or 6 positions. It folds into a flat easily carried sheet of plastic. It has holes to fit it into a 3 ring binder. Its two adjustable clips simply fail to hold anything but comic books open.

1. Ease of putting a book in the holder: ROBERTS BOOK HOLDER: 5/5; BOOK BUTLER 3/5; FELLOWES BOOK LIFT COPYHOLDER 2/5. I had no difficulty inserting a book into the Roberts Book Holder, while I did find it awkward to do so with the BOOK BUTLER. However, even with only one hand and it has both arthritis and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, I was able to put a 2 1/2 inch thick hardback into the BOOK BUTLER without much difficulty. It is only a matter of figuring out how to do so with only 1 hand. The FELLOWES BOOK LIFT COPYHOLDER simply will not hold anything thicker than a small soft cover book, although putting it in was not too hard.

2. Ease of turning pages: ROBERTS BOOK HOLDER: 3/5; BOOK BUTLER 5/5; FELLOWES BOOK LIFT COPYHOLDER 2/5. While it was easy to turn pages with the Roberts Book Holder in most cases, there was some difficulty when the pegs were tightly pressed against the pegs. Also note that the pages must be lifted above the pegs, and can rip if carelessly handled. Compared to the BOOK BUTLER, this was noticeably inferior. Turning pages with the BOOK BUTLER involved lifting the hinged tab with one finger while turning the page with thumb and index finger. The FELLOWES BOOK LIFT COPYHOLDER's tabs are hinged, and therefore flip easily out of the way for turning pages. However, the pages simply will not stay open.

3. Holder's ability to keep book open: ROBERTS BOOK HOLDER: 3/5; BOOK BUTLER 5/5; FELLOWES BOOK LIFT COPYHOLDER 0/5. As mentioned earlier, the Roberts Book Holder has pegs that are at a slight angle to the pages, which may allow stiff books' pages to slip past the pegs. However, the BOOK BUTLER performed flawlessly. Note that I primarily use soft backs but not standard paperback novel-sized books. Manga books work fine. The FELLOWES BOOK LIFT COPYHOLDER fails almost every time to hold the book open. It would work fine with comic books as long as they are stapled in the middle and very thin.

4. Major strength/weakness: The ROBERTS BOOK HOLDER's major weakness is that its pegs are easily lost. Note that replacement pegs are available: Roberts Book Holder: Book holder replacement pegs - package of 2. People with severe arthritis may have difficulty handling the pegs. A secondary weakness is the fact that the pegs are not parallel to the pages, thus, pages are more likely to slip past the pegs than they are in the BOOK BUTLER. The ROBERTS BOOK HOLDER's pegs being round can roll away if dropped on the floor. However, its stability upon the tabletop is much better than the BOOK BUTLER, whose major weakness is its narrow 7 inch width that may cause it to tip over when holding a wide and heavy book. I just tried a standard college textbook in the BOOK BUTLER. Placing it in open to its table of contents was noticeably more difficult than it would have been in the ROBERTS. With the textbook in the holder, flipping from the table of contents to the index is awkward, mainly because of the transfer of weight from one side to the other, and would require sliding it so that the bulk of the weight remains near the middle. The FELLOWES BOOK LIFT COPYHOLDER's only redeeming feature is that it folds flat, and can be carried in a backpack without being in its box. Its adjustable clips simply flip over with the force of most any book. It is worthless as a book holder. It pales in comparison to either the BOOK BUTLER or the ROBERTS BOOK HOLDER. It is only good for thin magazines stapled in the middle. I had one that I used for a few years, but it simply was not worth the money. Nothing would stay open adequately. My attempts to stiffen the clips were futile.

I have carried the ROBERTS in its box a backpack for about a year, its box is worn but it is still in great shape because it stores flat. However, the BOOK BUTLER does not fold flat, and I would not think it would be appropriate for a backpack crammed full of heavy books, even if it were stored in its box. I have used the FELLOWES BOOK LIFT COPYHOLDER in that same backpack prior to buying the Roberts. There were no problems in carrying it, but since it fails in its purpose, why bother?

Thus, for home, I prefer the BOOK BUTLER; I am keeping the ROBERTS in my backpack; the FELLOWES is in the landfill.

Great for Repeating and Extending Wireless Network.......2006-12-18

You guys who use WEP/WPA etc are idiots... use MAC address filtering, and you don't need to use login/passwords. the MAC address filter will stop anyone attempting to connect from getting a IP address at ALL.

Anyways, I use the DWL-G810 as a wireless repeater to extend the range of my wireless net work, works great. Out house is 4,800 sq ft, and it's difficult to pass wireless signal from upstairs on one side of the house to downstairs on the other side, and this device placed half way point downstairs easily extends the network.

No experience using it as a bridge.

Item is EOL and has a bios error.......2005-09-09

This particular product has a bios error on the board which causes the connection to reset. The product is also past End Of Life with D-Link, so they provide no support to remedy this problem. Purchase at your own risk.

D-Link DWL-G810 sucks.......2005-08-19

This Wireless bridge completely sucked. The firmware was buggy never saved my information. It said it supported WPA which it did not have any fields for it. If i did get it to connect to my access point it would immediately disconnect. D-Link had always cool looking devices. This was a square plastic cheap box with a giant D on the front of it and a big annoying light on the front. This product could use a lot of redesign. Specially the firmware. I would not recommend for a wireless bridge.

Does not play well with others.......2005-08-08

Stay away if you plan on using this with a Linksys router. Nothing I tried, over the span of two days, would get the thing to work for more than two minutes. Even putting the unit next to the router, 2 inches away, and it couldn't see it half the time, the other half it'd drop 90% of the packets.

Your mileage may vary, but note that this isn't the only review to highlight issues with Linksys routers.

Defective product.......2005-08-06

I bought this device to connect my TiVo to my wireless G network. WPA encryption did not work. WEP didn't even work. Tried different firmwares but nothing worked. Don't look here if you want WPA.
