Nice TV for the money.......2007-08-23

I've had this TV for quite a while now and haven't had an issue.
The only complaint I have is the black frame around the screen hides part of the picture and close captions on the bottom.
Otherwise it's a very nice quality unit...

I have only owned this TV for about a day so I can't speak for long term usage. The main reasons I wanted this TV over a few other choices were the built in ATSC tuner, the size, and the picture quality. The ATSC tuner accepts not only analog signals but digital signals as well (aka HDTV if supported by broadcaster). The TV pulled 7 digital channels from my HDTV-compatible antenna and three of them (NBC, CW, and FOX) broadcast in HD. The picture quality of the HD broadcasts is unbelievably crisp and clear. The size is convenient because 26" is big enough to enjoy but small enough to be movable if necessary, not to mention the TV is only about 3" deep and not heavy at all. When I hooked my progressive scan DVD player in through component cables the picture was again sharp and clear, making movies a joy to watch.
The little gripes I have (not big enough to deduct any stars) are the following:
- Volume between analog/USB media and digital/DVD media is much different. The analog and USB are much louder and require me to turn down the volume each time I use them after a digital channel.
- There is no volume display when adjusting (VOL ---|--------) though there is one in the audio menu.
- Weak channels automatically delete, though this hasn't a problem for me yet.

That's it! Other than those 3 things I LOVE this TV and HIGHLY recommend it!

Great television.......2007-01-19

Recently I moved back home while trying to save up for my own place. I was searching for a television for would fit well in my bedroom, which could then possibly function as a main television after I move out. Originally I planned on buying a flatscreen television, but I fell in love with this great LCD. I had seen this tv on display in Best Buy, and was amazed by the quality of the picture. Also, compared to other 26" LCD widescreen tvs, it had an unbeatable price. I have been very pleased with my puchase, and would highly recommend this TV for anyone who is looking for a smaller sized high quality picture.

Get this TV.......2006-12-28

This tv blew me away. Prior to this i had a 26 inch Hyundai LCD. Not a bad TV by any means it just lacked HDMI. SO since a 26in is the largest tv I can get sent to me I decided to go with this Phillips. I am so glad I did. This tv has all of the perks of a LCD yet looks like a plasma. The colors are rich and breathtaking. It also has plenty of inputs. The only bad thing is if you sit close to the tv you can see the pixels. The speakers I have yet to try out since I have a Bose 3-2-1 system. When the TV is off it still grabs you attention with its sleek appearance. All and all I love this TV and I am very happy with my purchase. Phillips in my mind has always made one of the best TVs of the market

This is the second purchase I made thru Amazon.com, never again!
I was overcharged for a product which I never received, tried to get a credit for my purchase,never received the credit either.
As for the Philips 26" TV, excellent quality, easy to operate, very sharp picture, I would highly recommend it to anyone.
Just don't purchase it from Amazon!!!

Great TV for the money.......2007-09-16

We just installed this TV, and connected the VCR and DVD players. It all worked flawlessly the first time. The remote is great, it has a dedicated button for changing the picture size directly from wide screen to cinema to normal to zoom, you don't have to go through a menu. It also has a dedicated button for changing the color to some common modes without going through a menu. It does have a menu where you can tweak the audio and video and other things. It has a lot of inputs on the back and one on the side. You can use this TV with a lot of peripherals.

The picture is beautiful. I don't get HD with my cable (yet) but the analog cable comes through sharp and beautiful. I am very happy with this TV. Also it is very lightweight, I have it sitting on top of my VCR.

As many reviewers have noted, this TV has AV sync problems. Some reviewers have also noted that some hd channels contain video garbage, yellow lines and blinks, outside the broadcast frame. The latter can be fixed by switching the screen size from standard to fill; this crops some of the hd image (a little to much for my taste, but not too much more than a panasonic plasma automatically does). Also, only some hd channels don't fit in the standard frame; comcast hd movie channels look great in standard.

The AV sync and bungled screen-fit are problems that Westinghouse should have fixed. However (and please correct me if I am wrong), if you do have this TV or find one in the $300 or under range, it helps to know that the AV sync problems apply only to analog broadcast channels; digital channels and hd channels pulled in through basic cable sync up fine. So, by Feb 2009, with the shift to all digital broadcasting, the analog AV sync problem on this TV will be moot.

Some reviewers have noted that DVD players also have AV sync problems; this is true if you are using composite cables to hook up your player. However, I have found that with component cables the AV sync problem goes away, so try switching your cables if you have sync problems with your dvd player.

I have this TV hooked up to a 5.1 sound system w/ an optical cable (optical out on this TV is a nice perk); hd broadcasts in dolby digital look and sound great. The sound using optical out is much better (and better synced) than the internal speakers. So if you are stuck w/ this TV (like me) or find one for a bargain, you can work around the sync and video problems.

Don't Buy.......2007-09-05

I bought this TV for $375 as an open box item at Best Buy. I was only looking for a 20 inch television, but for the same price how could I pass up a 26 inch? First of all, I started experiencing the audio sync problem everyone else reports. Secondly, I have this unit hooked up to a Bose 3-2-1 system, and every time I power off the television and turn it back on I get no sound until I go back into the audio settings, turn on the internal speakers and then turn them off again. I am on my way back to the store to return the TV right now.

OK HD picture but terrible for standard broadcast. The worst sound I've ever heard coming from any TV. Returned this TV and bought A Sharp which is terrific. The price may seem right but it isn't worth it. I guess it's true that you get what you pay for!

Great picture; serious service problems.......2007-07-19

We purchased this TV because we thought the picture quality was very good for the price. It worked like a charm for 8 months and then stopped working. It has a 1-year warranty and Best Buy is their repair service. To make a long story short, our TV needs a new circuit board. What does that mean for people who are shopping for a new TV? Perhaps nothing; TV circuits randomly go bad all the time. But it turns out that there is such a need for the specific replacement part that our TV required that it is on backorder for a month. So that's my review. Good picture quality, but it seems that they need a lot of repairs. I can't think of another explanation for such a high demand for spare parts.

Same as others - great picture - lousy sound sync. I kept hoping that it was a temporary issue. Thought it was because I was not receiving HDTV broadcast. Now, after reading these reviews, I wish that I had returned it.

I wonder whats wrong here.......2006-07-13

i have been using this lan card for almost a year now and i have yet to have any problem. either i am the lucky one or the other people got a bad unit. but again its build by microsoft so there is a greater probablity that others got bad unit. its common about Microsoft to make stuff that might or might not work. anyway, enough of Microsoft bashing, and more about the card iteself. i have used this card with different routers and it performed pretty good. i have used it with belkin router, verizon's westlink (??) router and my school's linksys network, and worked flawlessly with each setup. the installation was a little longer than it should have been, specially as compare to my belkin g mimo lan card on my newer laptop, but still it was alright. i am using this MN-720 with a dell latitude PIII with 450 mhz and i am pretty alright with the performance. if you can get this card for a good deal, say for under 20 bucks, i think it will be worth the money. oh yeah about the suggestions by other users to change the channel from 6 to 1 or 11, it doesnt have to be 1 or 11. as long as its anything but the default it will work. i run my networks on either 5 or 7 and no problems. i think it depends more on how many wireless/cordless devices you guys have in your household that are running on the 2.4ghz frequency. good luck guys.

Horrible card, bad signal.......2006-01-21

I rate this card 1-star. It has a weak signal. Where Netgear saw 6 networks this carrd saw zero. I had trouble making it see my two routers. Changing channels and searching for the right one helped at one time. But I tried it recently, and it just couldn't find my wireless router on any channels. (the laptop was very near the router) So I replaced it with netgear and all was fine. Was a cheap move on my part to buy this one in the first place. Not that cheaper always means worse, just in this case it did.

Does your card have the dropsies?.......2006-01-21

OK so the number 1 complaint with this card is it drops the network, A LOT. Well I used to have that problem too. So here is how you fix it. Move the channel on your router +/- 5 from where it is currently set. If you have the Microsoft router move the channel to 11 or 1 it comes set as 6. Presto, problem solved and now this card works just like it should. All the time.

I seriously can't tell the difference between this and a Linksys. They both connect to the network and both test out at the same speeds when I check them.

With the drop problem fixed this is top rate stuff. I give it four because it was awful up til I fixed it and that isn't right to sell something like that.

The worst wireless card ever.......2005-09-06

Alright before I begin let me just say I know quite a bit about wireless networking. I had already connected 2 wireless pc's to my 128 bit WEP encrypted router. I had initially set it up as WPA but opted to change it as this hunk of junk doesn't support WPA. This card will detect your network no problem, just try connecting to it. Apparently I am typing in the wrong WEP pass.... I can assure you I am not. Perhaps there is an issue between Micro$oft and D-link I am unaware of...go figure. I do not have the time nor patience to deal with Micro$oft's customer support regarding this issue. Back to the store this goes. Do yourself a favour and do not buy this.

Durability issues.......2005-03-31

Quite frankly it was a lovely little card thats sleek and easy to use, it ran the connection at my school really nicely the only thing thats bugging me now is that it's a year later and it went and died. Like the Power supply won't even turn on, and it's not the slot in my computer. So I called Microsoft and they told me this item has been discontinued and I have to send it in and they will have to send me a refund instead of a replacement.
