3 out of 5 stars seems OK OK, not best, not bad.......2006-01-04

I bought this TV in philips outlet for 750$. Used it for less than month now. But beware of long waits on philips customer service.
Pros
----
1. Cheap, inexpensive, TV for bedrooms or kitchen.
2. Picture quality seemed ok with HD , so far.
3. Look and Feel of the TV is good.

Cons
----
1. Only one HD-Analog connection (Component to VGA)
* Beware of this, though the TV has component input, its not HD Capable unlike all other TVs. Philips gave a special Component to VGA cord, which can be used for regular dvd player progressive scan(480p).
2. Only one HD-Digital connection (HDMI)
3. Though the TV says 16:9, I can only see 15:9 in wide screen format.
4. Black levels are not as dark, it may be scenario with all LCD TVs. Plasmas has dark black levels.
5. Poor and long waiting on customer service. I think philips should consider outsourcing customer service, instead of torturing customers with long waits.
6. Very badly packaged, so open the package cautiously.

1 out of 5 stars Horrible support, will never buy from Phillips because of this tv.......2005-12-28

In August, my girlfriend and I purchased this 30". The tv since that date has dealt with the screen periodically blacking out, while the sound stays on -- it also has a cut on the screen from the inside of the glass (over .25" in length), obviously from the manufacturer.

Phillips, for the past four months, first sent us to an incompetent repair center to fix the blacking out issue. Their first attempt at fixing it did not work - but since Phillips could not find another repair service in a 50 mile radius to fix the problem (all other reps noted that Phillips will not reimburse for full travel and working time), they asked us to send it back to this rep -- their comments were that if it was not fixable by this time, we are viable for a replacement unit.

The service center attempted to fix it the second time (incidentally, this service repair center 'lost' our brand new flat screen tv for 2 days), but the problem persisted. Phillips refused to send a replacement, or issue a refund (after over two weeks of discussion), and offered a new, 3rd repair center that was more competent and now services san francisco.

This 3rd rep came out to preview the system, noticed the issues, and said they would return to pick up the TV unit for repair. However, in a week they called to tell me that Phillips will not support our warranty anymore, since it's past 90 days.

I contacted Phillips, spoke again to their Consumers Relations department, who noted this time that they do not issue refunds or replacements for any of their products, regardless if it is shipped faulty. They noted that the blacking out is repairable under warranty, but the Screen cut is not covered under any warranty -- regardless if it comes faulty from the manufacturer, it cannot be replaced other than by our expense. They have noted that the 3rd Repair service should be calling me, as they have authorized fixing the blacked out part of the screen. This final issue alone took one month, and 6 phone calls.

For 4 months I've had to deal with Phillips -- and I have been cordial, lenient, and understanding. I've agreed to 2 repairs, the second knowing that they were poor service reps. I've been on the phone with them over 20 times, with mixed information... and it's still not fixed.

4 out of 5 stars If only it had more HD inputs..........2005-09-30

This is a great TV, image quality is great.
Only problem is that it has a single analog HD input, and it is shaped as a VGA connector. So you need to use the included adapter to plug in HD Component video. This means that if you want to use your component inputs, you can not use VGA at the same time.

If you have more than one HD (or even ED a.k.a 480p inputs) you need an external switcher. See that your home theater system can handle this, if not, the Pelican switchers are very cheap and very good.

4 out of 5 stars sticky stuff.......2005-09-15

Really, who was the master mind behind the sticker on the speakers? Finally got it safely off with "De-Solv-It," found at the local kroger's. Love the TV, keep hounding my husband to let me use it for my pc monitor!

5 out of 5 stars Best in class.......2005-06-12

After thoroughly researching all LCD TV monitors in the 20-30" range and after after some disappointment with an LG monitor, I couldn't be happier with the Philips 30". The picture is clean and bright with far less pixelation than other monitors in its class. The settings controls are easy to navigate too. My only gripe is that when you buy a $1900 TV, the sticker on the speaker panel shouldn't leave nasty adhesive residue when you remove it...I'm still working at getting that stuff off! I would highly recommend this model to anyone looking to buy a 20-30" LCD TV monitor.

    1 out of 5 stars Total Garbage!.......2007-02-15

I rated this at 1 star because there was no zero option. The manual is ridiculous, the supplied cables were defective and their customer service line is absolute torture to get through. You have to sit directly in front of the set to view a decent picture. I had numerous problems with the set not starting properly and finally...when the set was just out of warranty, a circuit board attached to the LCD screen blew. Guess what, the board is not available as a separate item. Philip's wants to charge $4500.00 for the part alone! I paid $1800.00 for this piece of junk. I look at this as tuition for the education I received dealing with this substandard company. Do yourself a favor, buy a SONY. I did and now I'm happy.

1 out of 5 stars Nothing but problems.......2006-06-13

I would never buy another Philips LCD again. The HD blacks out occaisionally. You can't upgrade the mounting hardware, you can't use a normal component cable, when you use the HDMI, the audio has to be sent with the cable(the turn off all other audio connections). So if you use a provider like comcast that doesn't send audio over DVI, you can't hear anything. This LCD has been a nightmare. for $1500

    8. Very very annoyingly poorly written manual, dont expect anything from it.

4 out of 5 stars Great deal while it lasted!.......2005-08-30

I ordered and received the model off the Philips outlet store $999 - $200 discount which I consider a very good deal. The set arrived quickly and in good condition.

None of the accessories other than a stand were included (ac cord, remote control, cables and wall mount) with the original shipment. A call to Phillips customer support got a quick response that they will send the items as the become available. The ac cord arrived in two days with a packing slip stating stand and remote are back-ordered. The wall mount is not available, but I would want a tilting one if I were to wall mount.

The stand they shipped originally was for a much bigger tv.

If Philips comes thru with their promise I will remain happy.

I will echo the statements by other customers. This is not the ideal hdtv (picture, connections, etc.) but an excellent set for $800.

    1 out of 5 stars Not true 16x9: it's 15x9!!! Beware black bars.......2005-08-21

A true widescreen TV has an aspect ratio of 16:9. For most widescreen LCD TVs, this means a WXGA resolution that is 1366 pixels wide by 768 pixels high. But this Philips TV is NOT a true widescreen, despite the false claim in Philips specifications; its aspect ratio is 15:9 and its resolution is 1280 pixels wide by 768 pixels high. So what does this mean in practical terms? HDTV broadcasts (such as Law and Order on NBC and this year's Superbowl) are in 16:9 ratio; they fill the entire screen in a true widescreen 16:9 TV. But since the Philips is 15:9, the HDTV broadcast will appear with black bars at the top and bottom of the screen (unless you choose to artificially stretch the picture to fill the screen, making it look distorted, with people in the picture too tall and too skinny)! Can you endure black bars at the top and bottom of your screen every time you watch an HDTV broadcast? Can you accept the fact that the true usable area of the screen when HDTV is employed is less than the claimed 30" diagonal--that there will always be wasted area at the top and bottom of your TV? Do not make the same mistake that I did. Do not be fooled by the false claim of 16:9 screen ratio. Buy another TV--even a more recent Philips model--even if it costs you a few hundred dollars more.

    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Very nice, reliable router.......2004-10-06

Usually, I shy away from Microsoft hardware just because they are such a stinking monopoly. However, I purchased this device on the basis of it's price, features and benefits. I have been running this router for 2 years NON-STOP. It has only been off when the power was out, and when it is on, it is constantly in use. I networked our appartment with it, and my roommate has a sleep schedule exactly opposite of mine, so I use it heavily in the day, and he is on it all night. No hardware problems, it is simply a reliable router.

I do not, however, recomend using the software that comes with the router, the "Base Station Managment Tool" or whatever. This is a useless piece of software unless you like to see useless information that is available elsewhere on your computer arranged in one window. It is a waste of space on your disk and has basically no real benefits. Simply plug your router into your broadband, and into each computer. From any computer, go to the "Router Management Tool", which is firmware located on the router itself (type 192.168.2.1 in your browser address line and hit go) and change any settings you need to from there (such as logon information for your ISP). By the way, the person who had to have the original computer on for any subsequent computer to work, this was the mistake they were making. The logon information for their ISP was stored on HER COMPUTER instead of the BASE STATION. Therefore, her computer had to be on in order for the base station to log on to her ISP. Anybody in my appartment is connected to the internet REGARDLESS of what computers are on or off or whatever, which is how it is designed to work, with proper use.

Anyway, if you use this router correctly, and in its simplest form (plug it in to ISP, plug it into computers, no extra software installation), it is super easy and reliable. I would reccomend this product for even people with limited networking knowledge, its simple and works like a charm.

5 out of 5 stars Just the thing for XBox Live.......2004-02-04

I was looking for a cheap router that was compatible with XBox Live, and this was it. I had it up and running with no problems whatsoever in about 10 minutes, and I've had flawless operation ever since. If all you are looking to do is share your high-speed internet connection between two pc's or with an XBox, then I highly recommend this product.

5 out of 5 stars Suprisingly Easy to Use and Setup.......2003-09-18

Once I took this out of the box, I was able to have a network up and running in 5 minutes. I was very suprised as to how easy it was to set up and allow all the computers on the network to share my cable connection. The included software makes everything very simple, and I would definatly recommend this to anyone who wishes to put together a small network in their house or office.

5 out of 5 stars Works great with XBOX!!.......2003-02-19

I bought this router so I could have the internet and XBOX Live running simultaneously. It took just a few minutes to set up, and was very simple. I would highly recommend it!

    2 out of 5 stars so so.......2003-01-28

The installation was fine but when I wanted to network to another
computer the router turns off everytime the base computer is off.
So if I want to work on the second computer I first have to start
up the main computer then make sure the routing number is up and
working(lots of times is not) then go to the second computer to
    work.
