Not really impressed.......2004-12-10

I purchased this battery for my Panasonic LS5. First, off the battery came with no instructions, then again, it's a battery. So I plugged it into the player and charged for a whole day. Then I tried to use it and the battery went dead in 30 seconds. Then I tried charging it again. This time I left it without trying but off the charger for about a day. Tried it again and it lasted less than 30 seconds. I don't mind generic products, but this one did not meet any expectation since in essence, it never worked.

Panasonic's DVD-LS5 offers the versatility of a portable DVD player alongside the performance of a sophisticated home-theater component--and you can use it as both. The player handles DVD-Video, high-resolution DVD-Audio, DVD-R, and DVD-RAM playback, as well as standard and recordable audio CDs, including MP3- and WMA-encoded discs. Its slender, 1-inch chassis holds a 5-inch widescreen (16:9) liquid-crystal display and a built-in rechargeable battery good for about 2.5 hours between charges.

Designed to take full advantage of both audio and traditional video DVD formats, the DVD-LS5 delivers the super high-fidelity (192 kHz/24-bit) sound of DVD-Audio. DVD-Audio software titles offer classic music titles in both multichannel and stereo, though be aware that this model plays discs in stereo only. Most DVD-A discs have compressed Dolby Digital or DTS 5.1 surround tracks, however; these can be passed through the unit's digital-audio output to a compatible surround receiver and speaker system.

Audio features also include DTS and Dolby Digital passthrough, built-in stereo speakers, and Panasonic's Dialogue Enhancer for DVD movie viewing. Advanced Surround Sound (VSS) simulates surround effects from any two speakers or from headphones.

Cinema Mode reduces the detrimental effects of screen glare from ambient light, rendering cinematic colors in pictures that are gentle on the eyes. Further, Cinema Mode improves the visibility of details in dark scenes by automatically adjusting picture contrast.

This player is HighMAT compatible. Resolving Error H-03.......2006-06-19

I've had this player for a few years and overall its a sturdy, small and easy to use. However, a couple of days ago mid way through a movie I recieved an error H03 and the player stopped working.
Previous reviews and post suggest that after talking with un-helpful panasonic techs, removing the back panel and using an air canister to give the player a good cleaning can result in the player working again.
This did not work in my case. What did work was spinning the clogs of the laser's track (the component the laser is attached to can be lifted straight off the base exposing the clogs on the undersurface - take care with the two wires attached) to effectively move the laser to its outer most point on the track. Note that there are two clogs, one white and one black. I found that by spinning the white clog (I used a pair of tweezers) little resistance was given and the laser moved on the track.

After replacing the panel and restarting the player, the laser moved, the DVD spun and the error message was gone. Please note that this should only be done as a last ditch atempt to get the player working and by touching some of the internal components the player can be ruined permentantly :)

Problems with reading the DVDs after one year of usage.......2005-10-22

In the beginning, the DVD player had hard time reading DVDs and then it just got progressively worse. I had the player for a little more than one year now and it has stopped playing all DVDs.

I bought this little Gem primarily so my kids would be entertained on a 3 day road trip, but now I'm the one whose addicted to it! For only $199 clearance price as a "last years model", I was blown away by the phenomenal picture quality, versatility and extreme portability of this unit. Every store in town is hawking 7" screen "BenQ? Apex? never heard of that brand before - must be a cheap chinese knockoff" models for around the same price but guess what; their screens suck compared to this baby, they are cheaply made, and they are not very small. Try fitting one in your CD/mp3 player case like I can with this one! I was able to play wma files that I downloaded, photo-disks, jpeg discs, anything I can throw at it it has played. My favorite activity right now is to watch the "extras" discs from my movie dvd's while I ride the bus into work. Highly Recommended!

I don't know how we would survive without this! Easy to use-easy to tote around-easy to charge. No skipping. Perfect size screen. Little hint: your Ipod headset fits into the headphone jack.

I can't rave enough about this player. It's amazingly small and light, with the best screen picture quality I have seen. Sure, you can get one of the cheap no-name brands for a little bit less, but do you really want to strain your eyes on a washed out picture? This is one you'll actually scoop up and carry with you when you travel. The quality also can't be beat. It's well worth the $399 retail price!

Well, I did it and I'm not too happy about it. I should have read the other reviews instead of just "doing it". Yes, I am disapointed but I have learned from my mistake. When a "device" offloads it's computing to the cpu in your
computer or a distributed cluster, well, it's troubel in the making. Do yourself a good deed and think before you make the commitment. Linux, Win-dose, Mac, Slow-Laris, AIX, BSD. Those are the operating systems. The hardware is up to you and the network admin. The processors and the pcmcia and networking must not be compromised or else all will be lost. A tragedy? Possibly. You are given only 1 time to get it right. Now it is up to you!

Great performance !.......2006-11-14

I bought this PCMCIA network adapter for my two year old Dell Inspiron 600m, which was giving me nightmares for the past three months in trying to connect it to any LAN via ethernet. I tried all kinds of solutions to fix it, ranging from driver updates, card reinstallation and hard disk formatting, but to no avail!
Finally, I was advised to get a PCMCIA network adapter or send my motherboard for a check up! I obvioulsy chose the former. After a couple of days of searching and reading on the net, I decided on this 32bit D-Link adapter, and my life has become a whole lot better. The installation of the card took 2 minutes, and the hardware was recognized immediately thereafter (by my Windows XP OS). The performance has been extremely satisfactory and seamless!
I would recommend it to anyone who is having similar problems with ethernet networks.

Works with Windoze.......2006-09-06

I bought one of these, new, for the price of a couple of McD's meals, and it's allowed me to bring a small wireless "modem" (from my ISP) into work, hook it up to an aging, otherwise stand-alone laptop I had gathering dust at home, and get good, private Internet access (on my own time) *without* connecting through my company's network, creating any security issues or bringing down the wrath of my corporate LAN-Lords. It's not the fastest thing around, but it is reliable on every Microsoft OS from W98 on - and maybe earlier ones, too. W2K supports it directly, so it's essentially "plug and play" on my old laptop.

I'd give it five stars if it handled 1000TX too, or worked flawlessly with Macs - but right now neither is necessary. And the price was right.
