I own the 50" Ambilight and it has turned out to be a fantastic TV. At first, my wife and I were a bit skeptical that the ambilight was just a gimic, but we went ahead with the purchase. As it turns out we both LOVE the ambilight feature. It really adds a level of depth to movies that you have to see to believe. The picture quality is fantastic as well.
I too was a victim of the recall. There was a problem with the shieling around the ambilight bulbs which had caused problems in a few TVs. It was extremely easy to schedule an apppointment through Philips, and within a week a technician came to my house and fixed the issue. It was a 30 minute appointment. Not sure what happened with the fellow whose review is below this one.
I'm extremely satisfied.

I'm an extremely dissatisfied customer of Philips and I own the Ambilight model (50PF9630A/37). Well, I kind of own it. I pay for it while it sits in the service center. I had it for 7 months prior to the recall of almost 12,000 Philips TVs with certain Ambilight parts in them. A technician came to my home to replace the faulty parts three and a half months ago and it's been in the shop since that day. I have been on the phone with Philips over and over throughout this ordeal while they've sent part after part after part to the service center, in failed attempts to get my television working again. Their customer service is horrible and they are adamant that they are going to do everything they possibly can to avoid replacing the unit, no matter how long it takes. I have been told multiple times by their "customer service" reps that there is NO TIMEFRAME in which they must complete a repair before finally deeming the unit unrepairable AND to top it off, my warranty will still expire at the date of purchase, even if they still have it in their possession at that time. Basically, if they keep it for two and a half more months and get it working long enough for them to drop it off at my house, I'm on my own. I'm not a plasma expert by any means, but I hope this helps you and anyone else that reads this in making an informed decision on atleast which brand NOT to buy.

I purchased one from Amazon. When it was delivered and installed, I realized that it was a refurbished with a big stamp on the user manual and red ink to cross out the serial number at the back of the TV. The front black frame was falling off. I wanted Amazon to replace it with a new one. Amazon customer service agreed that what was advertised should be new TV. But, they were not able to find a new one so I was offered a refund. The problem is that I need to call Dish HD to cancel HD installation (if possible, etc.) and take another day off to wait for the pick up.
Do not buy this TV from Amazon unless you like used plasma TV.

LOUSY Products from a Lousy Company.......2005-01-26
I got one of these CD players for Christmas and it broke the 2nd time I used. TARGET wouldn't exchange it becuase I didn't have a receipt (It was a dang Christmas present!) I called GPX and they wanted me to ship the player back to them which cost $10 and mail them a check for $15. So it would cost me another $25 to replace it. GPX is a lousy company that makes lousy products. You would have to be a FOOL to buy this product.

Overall pretty average. The reception for this CD player is bad in the car, but satisfactory elsewhere. The features are very good, with 10 presetable stations each for AM and FM. It has a switch that makes it so the buttons won't work, good for when it's playing in it's case. It looks very sleekand is about the average size and weight of a CD player.

Great all around 2 megapixel Camera.......2000-10-05
I like the images, both resolution and quality-wise. It's a little boxier than I'd like, but then the price makes it a closer performer to the $700 cameras. Something not mentioned anywhere I've seen is that the lens used happens to accept standard 37mm filters - Tiffen and Sunpak have a pretty good selection available. Very capable flash unit despite the size, probably due to the pretty sensitive CCD (took some pictures inside the house with all the lights turned off - came out like daylight). Nice bright LCD with fine resolution. A little slow on picture-to-picture transitions when in Slideshow mode (initially resolves a 50% pixelated version, then slowly draws in the refinement over about 15 secs. per picture). TV Out seemed to take as much battery life as running the LCD (you get about 15 mins continuous life max out of the supplied 1400ma Ni-MH AA's.)

This is far more than I expected... The fastest computer I've owned to date... Quiet too... I've owned 4 Mac's and 2 PC's... Many people simply replace their old PCs with some newfangled model and send the old equipment to the attic, the garage sale, or their grandmother. However, once you discover the benefits of home networking, there's no need to retire your old system.
The trouble with home networks is that most people are intimidated by the hardware installation. There are myriad cables, cards, and other equipment to purchase, and you have to make certain it all works well together; plus, you have to factor different speeds, protocols, and manufacturers into the mix. That's why we recommend that beginners buy a network kit, such as D-Link's DFE-910 10/100 five-port Network in a Box, that makes connecting a couple of PCs as easy as flicking on a light switch.
OK, so maybe it isn't that easy, but it's close. The kit comes with everything you'll need to connect a pair of PCs, including two 10/100 Mbps Ethernet Network Interface Cards (NICs), a five-port 10/100 Mbps Ethernet hub, two cables that measure a generous 20 feet each, an AC adapter, and all the software and documentation you need to get everything working.
The NICs come with Wake-on-LAN (WOL) cables for motherboards that support the feature, but we didn't use them, and WOL support certainly isn't a requirement. We just popped a NIC into an empty PCI slot on each PC, inserted the required driver diskette during the boot process, and let Windows 98 take care of the rest. Beyond that, setup required connecting each NIC to the hub using the included cables, powering up the hub, and running through some simple network configuration steps on each PC. The documentation did a good job of guiding us through the process, and the network was fully operational within 30 minutes of taking the hardware out of the box.
Since all the hardware included with the DFE-910 is capable of 100 Mbps speeds, file transfers between connected PCs are fast. 100 Mb per second translates to about 12.5 MB per second, and we saw transfer rates between 2 MBps and 10 MBps in our tests. Needless to say, multiplayer gaming is a blast with this setup.
The hub that comes with this kit is of the switched variety, which means that you can connect more PCs to the network without subdividing the bandwidth and decreasing overall performance. You can connect up to five PCs to this hub; the hub also has an uplink connector if you want to add another hub to the network.
The only thing we didn't like about this kit was the software, which is very old. One CD includes demos for games that are over five years old, and another CD has the outdated Internet Explorer 4.0 and Netscape Communicator 4.0 software. All of this is secondary to the hardware, which works well and is easy to figure out for anyone who has added a component to his or her computer in the past. In fact, our sole gripe with the hardware is the cooling fan in the hub, which could be heard over the whirring from our two caseless test PCs. --T. Byrl Baker

I bought this product on April 2001. Let me tell you that it only took 15 minutes to have my computers hooked together and my network running. The installation is very easy. The only lack is the additional software that comes with, which is already old (example: IE 4, Netscape 4, etc.). It's an issue which you really would have to leave out, since this programs can be downloaded free from the Internet. Anyway, D-Link has proven to be an excellent network products brand. I really haven't used Technical Support, since it has not given me any problems over the 8 months that I have had this product. If you compare this network in a box with other brands, you will find that this is cheaper.
In conclusion, I really recommend "D-Link DFE-910 10/100 Network-In-A-Box " for the price, features, and what it gives you for a network.

Great Product.......2000-04-15
After getting the newest drivers from D-Link's web site, installation went without a hitch. Only problem I had was somehow one of the NIC cards was set for no flow control and I thought I had a bad card. Also their cables was causing some packet loss, replaced with some good CAT5 cable and now I'm flying. Seems 1000 times faster than my old 3COM 3c503 10 MB NIC cards. Now only if my internet connection was as fast....
