What a difference this card made, I used it because I have an external harddrive and it took forever for my programs to pop up from that drive, now it works like an internal drive. Disappointing.......2006-07-13

Despite reading about the challenges that others faced when using this product, I went ahead and rolled the dice. I figured that being a more savy computer person would allow me to install the card and not experience any problems.

All I can say is what a piece of junk! Just as others had warned, my computer had problems coming out of sleep mode, and when it did come out it ran slower than my 128K IBM PC Junior. Save yourself the grief and go with another product. For the $30 that I spent on this thing, I've decided to chuck it in the trash and spend my time warning others vs. wasting my time returning this POS!

Great USB 2.0 Card..........2004-03-03

I am running a Intel Celeron 1.0 Ghz custom built PC which only has USB 1.0 built on the motherboard.

Recently, I bought a less expensive USB 2.0 card at a local retailer thinking a usb card is a usb card. I had a horrible time installing it and it never really worked right. When I purchased a Western Digital USB 2.0 External Hard Drive to add to my system is when I found out not all usb cards are created the same. The WD hard drive just would not operate on the cheaper usb 2.0 card. I could not transfer files or write to the drive without getting errors. I thought it was the hard drive but after exchanging it and getting another one only to have the same problem I determined it must be the usb controller.

That is when I searched the net and looked at reviews for the best USB 2.0 card out right now. Every computer magazine website gave this card excellent reviews so I thought I would buy it from Amazon.com and give it a try.

It was very easy to install and I absolutely love the added front USB port which is included in the box and fits in an open 5 1/4 bay. Since I have an older machine I did not have any front usb ports. With this in mind along with the great reviews it has been given the purchase was a no brainer. I believe the NEC drivers which this card uses makes it top notch. I would recommend this card highly.

So Easy.......2004-03-01

This is my first modification on any type of computer. In fact, I did it incorrectly, and it still worked. What I mean is, you are supposed to download the driver (CDROM or online) and then install the card. Windows XP recognized it immediately and it works as advertised at 480 Mbits/sec. If you must know just one important thing about USB 2.0, remember not to unplug the peripheral device when the PC is on. Power down first, then unplug the device, be it printer, digital camera, external HD, or cordless microphone. It could result in a crash and/or data loss (Thanks to Christine for this word of advice).

Couldn't be better!.......2004-01-22

This is a PCI card to add USB to an older computer; 3 slots on the back and one internal--this card included a USB slot in a drive-bay cover, which you can install if you've got a free bay on your PC, connecting it to the internal USB slot with a supplied cord. The card works great on my P3-800 at work, running Windows 2000. Installed without a bit of trouble, and works perfectly. Following the installation directions had me up and running in a few minutes, and the PC recognized the card and loaded the drivers (which I'd put on from the install CD) immediately without a single hitch. Good as it gets!

Installed easily. Drivers work well with xp. Updated drivers work even better. Had over 1 year and not a problem yet. UPDATE : I am in year #2 and still working perfectly. Even after being transferred through 2 other computers!

Very pleased with this card.......2003-03-15

Installing the card was easy, although I had to download drivers for my Win98se machine and reboot a couple of times. After installing the drivers my computer detected the card with no trouble. Now it works seamlessly.

For anyone wondering (as I was), the bonus front bay port advertised on the Orange Micro site was included. It fits 5.5-inch bays. I didn't have a large bay free, but was able to adapt the cable to work with a 3.5-inch bay with a screwdriver, drill, and my existing bay cover. (A Dremel would have made the modifications easier, but all's well that ends well.) Now I have four additional rear USB ports and one easily-accessible front port, exactly what I wanted when I bought the card.

Sooner or later............2006-03-19

I knew the reviews before buying one...I enjoyed the huge memory space...It worked flawlessly, right up until suddenly it started making a bad noise. The only thing worse than losing an image, is losing hundreds of them. It worked for a little over a year, being used on a sporatic basis. I wouldn't recommend anyone buys them ever.

I owned a 1GB IBM Microdrive for just about 3 and a half years when just yesterday it died on me. Granted, that's a long time to have a microdrive, and I used it HARD for that long without any problems. I had no complaints during its lifespan. But truth be told, their reputation for unreliability precedes them. I completely expected it to fry a lot sooner, and lived in constant fear of something happening. When you're taking pictures, you want them to be SECURE, something this microdrive can't guarantee you. I was lucky, and didn't lose any pictures. I was lucky, and enjoyed a lengthy life with my microdrive. But don't rely on luck, which is what you're forced to do when you buy one.

Out of 3, does one work?.......2003-08-05

So I loved these when they first came out, and we used them in the D60 for several projects. During one of the events the drive developed a strange noise and shortly died mid-shoot. Not a good time. The noise was rather like an old turboprop plane starting up, speeding up and slowing down. We were unable to salvage any data off it.

We got that one replaced under warranty and the new one arrived and worked fine for about 6 shoots before succombing to an early death just like the last.

We currenty have the third one in and it is working fine but we now have three 1 gig Lexar's in spare because we can't count on these on critical applications.

As random storage I suspect this is probably OK, but if you NEED to not lose the data, look elsewhere.

I purchased mine and it failed after 10 months. I had never dropped it or abused it. I have sent it in for service, and have been waiting for about 6 weeks now. Their support keeps pushing the return date back due to constraints.
It may have a one year warantee, but don't count on ever seeing a replacment, I am definately not impressed with the service. I would recommend using larger compact flash cards 256/512mb in its place. It may cost more but it will be more reliable.
That will be the last 1GB IBM Microdrive that I will purchase.

Excellent value, durability.......2003-03-22

When I bought the 1G Microdrive, it had the highest capacity of all memory card, not to mention the biggest bang for the buck. A year and thousand of pictures later, this is still largely true, though the new 1G CF cards may prove to be the better deal. A big concern for hard drives is, of course, durability. My Microdrive has taken a lot of bangs and jars, and has even been dropped a few times, but comes through unscathed. The other concern is speed. When compared to a CF card, there's no noticeable slowdown after taking pictures, but retrieving files from the Microdrive takes just a little longer. Overall, I'm very satisfied with this purchase.

It's a very usefull video projector, my wife use it for her conferences of 20 to 50 persons and it looks great. I personally use it wiht my XBox in a big white wall and it makes complete different game experince. It is a basic video Projector, with basic features but just enough for my wife and myself and the best is the low price!

I've had my Powerlite S1+ for a little over a year now, and I have virtually no complaints. Through some creative shopping, (ie. pricematching and mail in rebates) I only paid about $350 for this projector. I have it permanently mounted in the ceiling of my basement and have a screen that is about 113" diagonal. It has over 1000 hours of use now, and everybody that has been over to watch a movie on it has been totally blown away and they all want one. As far as the $100 component video cable from epson, I was worried about this too until I found a local company that makes custom data cables. I paid $13 for a 15 foot cable that works beautifully. Initially I thought maybe when my bulb wore out I would upgrade to a higher end projector, but now that I've had so much enjoyment out of this over the last year, I'm planning on sticking with it and just buying a new bulb or two.

Practical and versatile.......2005-09-05

I bought this little projector mostly to attend on-line classes with, and to have a way to play games when my brain was full (which is very often;)). I also wanted a way to watch TV without having a big & ugly TV in my home office. A projector seemed the best solution, so I gave it a go.

The Epson has generous connectivity options, which allowed me to hook it up to numerous video sources simultaneously, and then switch between them all (yeah!). I have it as S-Video from my cable system's DVD R/W recorder, computer / component video from my main computer, and the 3-RCA video/audio (composite) connectors from my x-box.

In fact, the Epson sits right on top of my x-box, making for a highly cool, highly compact gaming unit with awesome capability. It takes a few minutes to transition from gaming in a fishbowl to playing in a life-size environment & getting accustomed to so much motion. Screen is plenty bright, though some of the darker interior scenes from the likes of Halo-1 are best played with the lights down (my screen is about 6 X 8 feet, 1.83 X 2.44m).

The device has fittings for ceiling mounts, but I'm more inclined to the portability of the included carrying case, if anything.
Switching between the video channels is either by hand-held remote or via the little control panel situated on top of the Epson. There is a second remote that is for operating your computer's mouse for presentations, including page up/down & L/R clicking, and it works great on xp pro with the included IR (InfraRed) USB receiver. Sounds complicated but installation was all of plugging the little IR cable/module into a USB port & then playing with the neat-o mouse remote. This is great for remotely fast-forwarding through commercials when playing DVDs through a computer. The projector has IR receivers fore and aft, BTW.

The main remote controls the video input selection, speaker volume (including mute), on-screen menu (very easy to use, with lots of selections for picky people), freeze video, a handy one-button color mode (Theater, Presentation, etc), Aspect ratio (2 settings), and ZOOM.

Video quality largely depends on the type of video input you apply to the Epson, with composite at the low end, s-video in the middle, and computer / component as highest picture clarity. The differences between these input types are about an order of magnitude, everything else being equal. By all means opt for computer / component input! Its like night and day as far as video quality goes.

Presentation fonts come through crystal clear, as do digital images, and watching a cable program or DVD on the unit is great fun (especially through the computer / component video port, where the picture is crystal clear). Although not what you would build a breathtaking home theater system around the Epson is nevertheless a practical, fun, truly plug & play projector that will connect to just about anything and go.

5-stars, among the entry-level projectors.
