TERRIBLE D-pad.......2006-01-28
This gamepad has one of the worst D-pads I have ever used. Not only does the pseudo-analog functionality make it difficult to use in games that expect digital controls, the design of the stick is such that the pad gets stuck in the housing if you push it too far. Don't bother.
This is garbage........2006-01-23
A friend gave me this pad before considering throwing it in the trash. After two days of having it, >I
< threw it in the trash. The D-pad has got to be the worst thing about it, its a D-pad that wants to be an analog stick. So its never fast enough on oldskool games because of all its "give." It has the right ammount of buttons (Start, Select, L & R) but that D-pad is soooo hoakie. I'd rather have an old Turbo Touch 360's flat touch panel from my Nintendo days. Atleast those actually worked. If you want console quality but on your PC, don't bother with flimsy copycat PC gamepads because they ALL suck. Get a Lik-Sang adapter and you can use PS1&2 pads on your PC! Download Joy2Key and you'll have awesome Keyboard and Mouse mapping software just like any Saitek or Logitech pad.
Calling this a "controller" is a dirty lie.......2004-10-11
This is by far the WORST controller I have ever used. The calibration is terrible, and the little "Precision" button is a joke. While playing Final Fantasy VII (with an emulator), my characters have attacked each other just because of the controller's sporadic nature. The up directional button doesn't work at all--my characters just end up going down instead--and the cursor goes crazy without even touching it. Please do not waste your hard-earned money on this device. You will be terribly disappointed. Today I went out and bought a Logitech Dual Action Gamepad for the same price at Best Buy. We'll see how that goes.
Guess what...poor calibration.......2004-03-23
I bought a Gravis Gamepad Pro about 7-8 years ago and it is still going strong to this day. My 6 year old and I have been playing Wakeboarding unleashed and knew we needed another gamepad. So this past weekend I bought the Gravis Eliminator Gamepad Pro. Unfortunately, I cannot calibrate it correctly. It keeps wandering to the left or right.
When i called Gravis and asked, the lady with the foreign accent at tech support tried telling me that it was the game and that I needed to try another. I told her this was my only game. She said then that a technician would call me back.... still waiting.
It's going back to the store.
Dpad gets stuck.......2004-01-29
I bought this because I liked the feel and flexibility of the dpad, but I took the first one back because the dpad got stuck. Now my second unit has the same problem, after several months of use.

Amazon.com Product Description

It boasts an ergonomic format for extra-easy reach of all buttons and flippers, including a digital 8-way directional pad. The AfterShock provides easy, plug-and-play USB installation, so you can spend time blowing up stuff and not going through software wizards. For PC users, system requirements include a PC , Windows 98, ME, 2000, or XP, USB support, Direct-X 8.0 or higher, and a hard drive with 15MB available, and Xperience software. Mac users will need a Macintosh computer running OS X or higher, and Xperience software. The manufacturer notes that "A force feedback device will operate as a non-force feedback device." The AfterShock comes with a 3-Year warranty and free technical support.

spicy dodo.......2007-02-28
When it first came out I'm sure it was pretty out stuff but in these times it just sucks the company even when under so yeah this one is a no no.
Zero stars actually.......2006-09-25
Where to start. The biggest complaint I have with this gamepad is that when using the D-Pad and trying to go left, it wants to go diagonal-left. This is a known issue with this gamepad (one that Gravis doesn't seem to care about) and is a big problem if you're playing a game that requires any sort of precision (like most of them). Nothing like going in a direction you didn't want to go or walking off a cliff.
The second biggest complaint I have is the software. It's the hokeyist software I've ever used. It would forget my button assignments, wouldn't save when I finished creating button assignments, and wouldn't recognize executibles consistently. In short, it didn't work. I'd be playing a game and suddenly the controller stops working. Bring up the software, no more button mappings.
I threw the gamepad away and bought a Logitech Cordless Rumblepad 2 from Amazon and have had none of these problems.
'F' for performance quality & durability.......2006-07-24
It doesn't matter how ergonomically sweet this gamepad is.
It doesn't matter that its programmability is awesome in versatility and scope (--in _CONCEPT_, anyway).
What ultimately matters is,
1. HOW IT WORKS
and
2. DOES IT PLAY THE GAME?
I am on my second of this unit over the course of 4 years, and, like all these other great folks, my resounding answer is:
1. Pffffft.
2. NO.
Let me try to get all the wrongs in, and be brief (as others have listed more at length):
*D-pad has 'making distinction between directions' issues (pressing 'N' will yield 'NW', 'S' yields 'SE' or 'SW', etc.)
*front 'trigger/face' buttons (index and middle finger spots) have become increasingly non-responsive and require harder/deep pressing, over time...I worry they will stop registering altogether, at some point (1 nearly has)
*analog sticks get tweaky. That is to say: one or both, at whim, have electronically (not physically-the stick itself still is in the 'center' position) off-centered themselves grossly in one direction (say North, or West), causing a game character to continue moving, turning, running, or at times spin unstoppably in circles.
When I 'test game controller' under my computer Control Panel's Game Controllers section, the Gravis Eliminator Aftershock's crosshair markers depicted centered (or NOT, in this case) over the joysticks show this, happening. So it is not a matter of any certain game I'm using it with, or any Setting/Configuration profile within a game.
This problem began spottily, then increased in frequency and severity (as well as reliability in constancy...i.e., now it's a problem as soon as I start the game, _throughout_ the game, instead of starting out as being every once in a while) over time and use.
These issues make the Gravis Eliminator Aftershock unusable (unless, for 0-24 months' usuability, at roughly $30-40 a pop, you feel it is worth it to you)-
so therefore it's really unnecessary for the review to go much further, into the software nightmare-headache, and programmable interface hair-pulling chaos-maze.
[In short, assignment of functions gets cross-wired and re-sets itself if you accidentally assign a redundant axis to another analog stick or to the D-pad- even temporarily (on your way to going back to fixing that one)- which means you can program one stick, click "OK" to set it, go into another stick (or the D-pad) and begin to configure it, "OK"/save it, pop back out- only to find your settings for the 1st stick have re-set themselves.
Apparently in order to get around the Gravis applet's "helping" you (supposedly in the online manual it says this aspect is built in, to prevent you from cross-assigning/redundantly wiring functions and causing problems _IN_game), you have to perform a very precise, specific ritual sequence of programming, and then sequentially SAVING, each stick/D-pad's assignments, or else the applet mucks the whole thing up.
SO helpful.
It became so crazy that I was "saving" the game configuration in the applet after every miniscule change of button function or stick configuration alteration, out of paranoia.
Change BUTTON 1...
SAVE.
Close applet.
Re-open.
'Good, it's still there.'
Change stick 2's axis...
SAVE.
Close applet.
Re-open.
Check to see if stick 2 (as well as 1, & D-pad) axis config is still the same...
'#$%!'
Re-set stick 2 axis.
Make sure stick 2 axis is not redundant with either 1 or D-pad.
All looks good. ('So what's the problem?')
SAVE.
Close applet.
Re-open.
'@#$T%(&!!!!'
Okay; I said I wouldn't go into that, but I did.
Just so that the potential buyer will beware that on every front, in every aspect, [in my opinion] this gamepad is booby-trapped for you.
Since I was naïve & hopeful enough to purchase a second of these in 2 years (the first one died of the very same problems-primarily the analog stick issue)-(but I was hoping beyond hope it was a fluke, as this gamepad has a design & ergonomic configuration like no other I've seen so far), and the 3-year warranty isn't up on my 2nd one yet, I plan on exploring what expense might be involved in mailing it back, just to see if it's worth recouping my losses.
I _know_ whatever I get back won't last any much longer, but, it might extend the value, slightly, of my 2-units' worth of already-spent money.
Meanwhile, I'm shopping for where to put my $Real money into a game controller which has a reputation for functionality, reliability & durability, and for generally pleasing its users.
Bells, whistles, brilliant concepts and 'sleek' aside, bottom line for serious gamers is that is HAS to WORK.
Response delays. Needs proprietary software to work ok........2006-05-18
For $8.90 I thought it was a good deal. It was ok at first but playing SNES emulator games there was a bad delay especially for the main 'b' button that is used to jump or flip which was very irritating. It works, but if you want to best game play with no frustrations, I recommended the Logitech Precision gamepad which is like $9 and no configuration is needed.
Complete Garbage..........2004-11-05
I bought this before reading the reviews, which is unlike me. Once I saw the experiences the other buyers had had, I was nervous, but convinced myself that it would be fine. I run XP, so I downloaded the software from the Gravis site, installed everything, and tried a game. The D pad wouldn't work, despite the fact that I had downloaded the XP software. If this had been the only problem, I would have figured that I had just done something wrong, but the joysticks were awful! Half the time, I would move the joystick up, to move forward, and when I released it my character kept going forward. Not great when you're standing on the edge of a cliff. I found it impossible to get any kind of control over my game characters, not nearly enough to even consider being able to use the gamepad for games.
Another thing about the gamepad is that, although I tried it in the store, to get a feel for it, I decided rather quickly that, regardless of how it worked, it just wasn't right for my small hands (I'm female, and have exceptionally small hands). I can't call this a complaint, just a matter of personal preference.
When I viewed the "Read Me" file on this thing, and came to the section about "Known Bugs", I about had a heart attack at all of the problems this thing is "known" to have! After every single bug listed, they gave a completely lame, unsatisfactory "solution". For instance, one bug said that games often take a moment to respond to input from the controller. Their solution? "Please wait a moment after each button click, to give the game time to respond". Erm, sure; I'll just politely ask 200 Orcs to stop attacking me while Aragorn takes a moment to respond, no problem.
I'm not by any means an extremely serious gamer with unrealistically high expectations for my equipment; I just like to play sometimes, and want moderately sufficient results. This controller came nowhere near that, and I'll be returning it tomorrow morning, after only owning it for about 18 hours.

HP's plain-paper black and white fax combines a quick 14.4 kbps modem with up to 300 dpi resolution in black for fast, high-quality transmissions. No worries: 50 speed dials, 10 one-touch keys and a 40-page memory lets you set the job and forget it. Just leave your fax in the input tray and go. The 40-page memory ensures that even if you run out of paper or ink during fax receipt, your fax will not be lost. Just want to make copies: copy up to 40 pages at once with up to 2 copies per minute. For more efficiency, a phone/corded handset is integrated into your HP 1010 Fax and added fax options such as fax forwarding to another fax, PDA or cell phone, automatic redial and reports, and blocking of unwanted faxes round out this invaluable personal assistant.
Customer Reviews:
Nice set of features, nice reputation, easy enough to use.......2006-02-19
HP Fax 1010 is an inkjet based plain-paper fax that is focused on the occasional faxer, and delivers a lot of value to that market segment. As long as you are aware of its limitations, you should be quite satisfied with its ease of use.
The fax comes with a standard 50-page input tray, which is quite small, but adequate for "home" or "home-office" use. If you need more, you should be looking for a laser-based plain-paper fax. It is not possible to overfeed the paper tray, as the paper guide won't let you. Talk about idiot-proof!
The fax uses the standard HP model "20" ink cartridge with 28 mL of ink, MUCH bigger than many other brands (compared to Sharp's 8 mL ink tank!), and HP ink delivers excellent quality on almost any office-grade paper. Besides, HP carts can be bought for under $30, with refilled carts even cheaper. Available refill kits can even improve upon that. The cart should last over 600 pages easily. The operating cost is under a nickel a page, perhaps as low as 3 cents a page.
The machine is pretty much plug-and-play. Plug-in the power in the back, plug in the phone cords (under the machine to the side, instead of in the back) and the extension line, and you are ready to send and receive. Set the fax to TAM (answering machine), AUT (auto) or FAX (only) mode, and it's ready to go. If you misplaced the manual, punch the "help" key and you can get a command summary on what the settings are and how to change them.
As almost all home faxes, the HP Fax 1010 is also a convenience copier. Put the page in, hit COPY, and enter the number of copies (or just hit copy twice for a single copy) and it'll scan and print out a copy for you. The copy seems to have higher contrast than the original, but otherwise in excellent quality.
HP also has an interesting feature called a "send confirm" report, which can be turned off. As it finished sending a fax to the other machine, it can print a report of when the transmission took place, received by which machine, along with a shrunken version of the document you sent, to keep as "proof" that you did send it. This is separate from the activity report, and may be useful where proof of transmission is important.
Another interesting feature of HP Fax 1010 is its "fax in memory" feature. Last 20-40 pages that it received are KEPT in memory, and can be printed out at any time. As new faxes are received, they replace the oldest ones in memory. So if you managed to drip coffee all over that fax you just received, rest assured your HP Fax can just print you another copy, no need to call the client back and ask for a refax.
Another nice feature is "silent mode" toggle button, where all of the beeps and "modem sounds" can be turned off. The fax itself doesn't make that much sound while printing, so this is great for the home-office worker who must work into the wee hours of the day, without disturbing the rest of the family.
The buttons are quite legible, white letters on black background. The important buttons are in color, and easily recognizable. Green is Enter/Send, Red is Cancel, enough said. The menus do require a little bit of deciphering as they are not as obvious as they could, but a short reading of the manual should clear it up.
The machine seems to co-exist with my modem and my answering machine well so far.
On the other hand, the HP Fax 1010 does have a few problems.
1) Extremely small paper capacity, at only 50 pages. While feeding paper isn't hard, it's inconvenient to feed it that often. Most other faxes have paper tray of at least 100 pages or more.
2) No output paper tray. What you see is that you get... The output gets dropped into the front of the machine, face up. No tray, no nothing.
3) No faxed document tray either. While you can leave up to 10 pages to be faxed through at the document feeder, once the page go through, they are dropped face down into the output area. Some sort of a wire frame holding up the output would be nice. At first I thought my model simply had that part missing, but checking the box manifest shows that there is actually NO SUCH PART. Apparently you are meant to fax stuff, then take the faxed page with you.
All in all, this is a product I'd definitely keep, based on the first month of use. It has a few limitations, but it is quite adequate for home-office use, and it has a few features not found in any other faxes in this segment that made it very home-friendly. HP delivers another first in the market segment.
So far, best fax I've used in its price range.......2005-06-24
I'm delighted with the number of pages I can get out of one cartridge. No jams, coming or going. Thoroughly satisfied, and I've had it for three months and put hundreds of pages through it.
NOT user friendly.......2005-01-19
I've had this product a year and I STILL have to refer to the owners manual for certain things (ie. adjusting settings, using the phone feature, changing fax settings). I hope you don't accidentally LOAD papers wrong cause it will take you an hour to figure out what you're doing wrong. I am quite computer literate and college educated and I find this fax machine difficult to deal with.
Small, simple, easy, good quality HP 1010 Fax.......2005-01-16
Just bought this machine yesterday. Setting up was a breeze, from installing the ink cartridge to setting the time/date, putting in my personal information, etc. Made some copies and sent myself some faxes from my computer on another phone line, everything looks great. Small size is really nice, especially compared to the HP Fax/Copy/Printer OfficeJet that finally died on me after about 5 years of hard use. For the money, this machine is fast, quiet, and I really like it so far! I definately prefer the ink cartridges to the other ribbon type machines.
I love my plain paper fax!.......2004-06-10
On the one year anniversary of purchasing this fax machine, I FINALLY had to replace the ink cartridge. I receive/send a minimum of 10 faxes each day. I call that economical! And I have had absolutely no problems with this fax - zero, nil, nada. My only (small) complaint is that if a fax fails to come through, sometimes it is impossible to figure out who was trying to send it so you can call and tell them to try again. I wish it held more paper. But overall, it was an excellent purchase and I would recommend this fax to anyone running a small business out of their home.

Problems with rebate.......2006-09-01
I too am happy with the performances of my Edge DiskGo! products, but have had trouble receiving any rebates.
WARNING - Deceptive Marketing Rebate Practice from Edge Corp.......2005-02-10
I recently bought an Edge Tech Corp DiskGo flash drive and have been satisfied with its performance so far.
UNFORTUNATELY, the company itself leaves much to be desired. They market many of these drives and other products with a VERY RESTRICTIVE rebate program which requires the rebate to be postmarked within 10 days of INVOICE. They make no allowance for holidays (as happened to me over xmas & new years) and personal vacations. Discussions with Edge Corp's main marketing & sales manager fell on deaf ears, and messages to their VP were unreturned.
Only buy this product if you can meet their restrictive, if not onerous rebate rules. Using the SuperSaver free shipping may put you out of the rebate window. I for one, will never buy another Edge product.

ugh... rubber........2003-08-14
Although my watch is slightly different (64mb, LAKS Brand) this watch was a design that seemed to have been licensed by a few comapnys like LAKS and EDGE but it is a usefull thing. Unless youve seen it around you have no clue its a USB NAND FLASH Drive. The USB connector just looks like a cheap design. In fact the watch looks like one you can buy from a dollar store, down to the rubber wrist band. But it is very confortable, waterproof and shock-proof. Also it can take alot of abuse. The day after i got it i healped a friend move. It looked pretty bad, Paint scrapes, scratches... etc. it looked bad... but some warm water and some dish cleaner or windex cleans it right away... flawlessly... ive accidently worn it in the shower, been caught in the rain and in rooms with unbeleivable humidity. It still works... perfectly.

Converter.......2004-06-24
This product will not work with all PAL systems, this is a piece of advice for all of you. This will ONLY WORK WITH the following PAL systems: PAL N / PAL M, these sytems are in use in Brazil, Argentina and other South American Countries. If you want to convert NTSC to another PAL signal (B, D, G, OR I), use the EVC1550, this converter claims to work in Most European, Asian and Oceanic countries that use PAL. Check which system the country you are going to will be using it in.

Didn't Work.......2004-02-15
I bought the Emerson EVC 1500 to convert a US DVD NTSC sigal to a PAL signal for a UK television. The converter did nothing to the signal. Picture remained B/W. Don't buy this...
A.
rakvision.......2002-09-22
I have not bought this product, but from the price range given here, it seems that this product will not fully convert the color systems when recording of the signal is engaged.
This device was meant for playing video games with american ntsc color system on pal tv.
This device will work with dvd players also.

I want to convert a PAL signal from a CCTV camera into a NTSC signal. The outcomming signal of the converter is unfortunately shown only as a B/W signal at a auto-switch CCTV monitor. The original signal is color.
Further I connect this signal to a PC framegrabber card and it doesn`t work like expected. Perhaps, a problem with the differnet frequency of the video signal?

Convert from US to UK.......2000-12-17
Does anybody on this side of the world know where I can get a converter to convert US video tapes to UK format?
How can I convert UK format to VHS?.......2000-12-13
My boyfriend is a big Rugby fan from Wales and his parents send him tapes of matches from the UK. It costs a bomb to convert them to VHS. Are there any converters out there? I know there used to be a VCR that was dual format, but I can't find it anywhere.

fine single use cameras.......2007-09-07
I have used these cameras many times on vacation and the pictures really DID come out fairly well! Oh, sure, the quality of the pictures won't be 100% as good as the pictures you would get from a digital camera or a standard, more expensive and more professional 35 mm camera. The pictures may at times be very slightly grainy but they provide excellent records and memories of my experiences.
Each camera is also very lightweight so you can carry several at a time in a bag as you travel. I especially like the built in flash that is easy to use (just push a button in the back of the camera and after 10 seconds or so the flash is ready). I remember my mother's Kodak Instamatic camera from the 1960s when if your flash cube had been used (after only four pictures) you were out of luck unless you had another flash cube. No such problem here! Thank goodness!
One cautionary note, however: Amazon correctly notes that the best flash range is when you're taking pictures of people or things between 4 feet and 14 feet away. Remember that to get the best use out of the flash!
The camera is a single use camera; this means that after you use it you take the entire camera to the place where you can get film developed and they will take care of the rest. No worrying about whether or not you removed the roll of film negatives correctly without exposing them to too much light. The Kodak "MAX" 800 film speed also makes it useful for taking pictures under a wide variety of lighting situations! You get 27 exposures, not just 24--a nice plus! SMILE
Overall, this is an excellent camera for the many, many people who want to travel light or who are on a budget. It is compact and easy to carry; keep one in the glove compartment of your car just in case there's an accident and you need to take pictures of the scene. The camera is also affordable. I give it four stars instead of five simply because the picture quality just isn't the very best although for most people like me the pictures it takes are fine. Thank you, Kodak!
Simple to use giving great results!.......2004-01-03
I bought one of these 2 Camera packs a few years ago. They were easy to use, the Flash worked everytime. The results produced nice Colorful Clear shots.
I recommend these to anyone heading out with friends.
Not sure if Kodak still manufacture these camera's though.
