Save valuable desktop space with the VTech VT1421 cordless phone. It combines 900 MHz technology, caller ID with call waiting, and many other popular features all in one compact design.
To set up the VT1421, we installed the batteries and plugged in the AC power and phone jack. A spare battery charger is built into the base, providing power backup at any time. The small handset fits comfortably into the palm of the hand and includes a lighted keypad and backlit two-line LCD display. Separate buttons control answering and hanging up, which we found unnecessary. A handset locator button on the base allows you to find your handset from anywhere within hearing distance.
The LCD display is operated with two arrow buttons and an OK button. To activate the LCD, we pressed the OK button and scrolled through the two-line menu using the arrow keys. We were able to program all functions without referring to the owner's manual.
Up to 20 numbers can be stored in memory using the LCD display and OK button. If you subscribe to caller ID with call waiting, these functions are also performed using the LCD. Up to 50 names and numbers can be saved in caller ID memory. To view the time and date of a call, press and hold the 7 (clock) button. Press the scroll arrows to view other calls. A delete button makes it easy to erase individual numbers, or you can hold the button for two seconds to delete the entire list. The handset can be positioned faceup on the base for convenient caller identification.
The VT-1421 supports an optional over-the-ear headset. Although the fit is somewhat limited, the headset is lightweight, comfortable, and actually transmits better than the handset. We detected virtually no background static, and voices sounded clearer at both ends.
In our tests of the VT1421, we were able to use the handset up to 100 feet from the base. Between 100 and 500 feet, the static was disruptive but we were still able to maintain conversation without losing transmission. Despite the adjustable antenna, we noticed some intermittent static at close range. However, when we tested the headset at the same locations, there was less static and sharper voice transmission. --Emily Bakko

Small and cute doesn't win here.......2002-10-07
I bought this phone especially for its size, headset, being digital, plus nice features on top of it. Initially I had to return it, being unable to plug the headset. Got another one, same problem, but then I pushed very hard and finally get it plugged. The headset jack is not defective as many reviews noted it, but is badly built (hole too small).
Sound: Quality is good, better at reception than transmission though. The last level of volume gives feedback, so you're stock with the one before, which is the bear minimum to hear conversations correctly. With the headset, reception is ok but again transmission is a little harder, too much noise transmitted.
Range: I never tried to speak beyond 40 feet. But inside that range, never had a problem.
Battery: Doesn't last too long, even if I speak once or twice a day with it, I have to recharge at least at every 5 days. Disappointing for a NiMH battery...
Features: Difficult to reach (redial, memory), but I don't use them often. The LCD display is small, but hey, that's the price for its compact size.
For me the biggest flaw is the sensitivity of the phone, which makes it cut the conversation for 2-3 seconds sometimes because it searches for alternative channels. It does that as soon as you manipulate the phone without precaution, like pressing it harder or just dropping it on a table. And it's even worse when the battery is low or close to be. So I always try to keep the phone well recharged.
I use that phone since two years now. I can't tell I'm very satisfied. My next phone will definitively not be this one!

The phone and the functions aren't bad at all but god forbid if you should need to find a battery for this thing. I've been to where I originally bought this thing and every other store in my city but not only do they not carry the original phone itself, but no accessories to go with it either. It sort of makes me ponder as to why I actually got this thing in the 1st place.
It is a ok phone........2001-11-18
(...) It is a great phone, I like it because it is so small, light and gets good reception. There are a few down-sides though. If you are calling someone sometimes you get the "channel searching" annoyance, if you drop it it does it also. The headset may not work well for many people ( my mother and brother ) but myself and father like it. One last bad thing is that sometimes you will get this horrific noise like someone is dragging there fingers down a chalk board (quiver). I think the reason it does that though is because you are touching the metal charing thing a mobobers. But the phone does get great reception ( you don't need the atenna ) it is light and great if you have to cook dinner or be on the computer while using the phone. I love the LCD because it lights up, and tells you the number you are dialing, my (dollar amount) sony doesn't do that. Now there is no recorder so if you miss a call you have to look at CID. But it does have a voice mail function ( I have yet to use it ) which tells you when you missed a call ( you have to have voice mail ). (...) Good phone I would buy it all over again!
great small phone.......2001-08-09
I bought this primarily for it's small size and headset capabilities. It also fits more securely in the base then many forward facing phones. I tossed the included headset and bought a nicer one and it works great. Volume and clarity are good although there seem to be occasional dropouts. The backlighting is also nice. On the con side, the screen is a little small and the menus hard to navigate. My main gripe is that access to the caller id list should have been more convienient.
Small, but has its faults.......2000-11-17
This is a very compact phone that is very convinient sue to its size, but it has its faults. The phone doesn't have speakerphone, and the head-set doesn't work well at all. The biggest fault the phone has though, is that it is very unclear to talk on, and there is a constant hissing noise in the backround.

Quality scanner, great value.......2000-10-15
I read a few reviews about this product before I bought it. Most of the reviews were positive and this scanner has won best in class with various magazines.
I have to say I was not disappointed in any way. Sure, it's not the world's most attractive scanner, in fact it's on the ugly side of unattractive, however it does what it's supposed to. It scans at an incredible quality, and does it fast. I have yet to see a better scanner on the market for under $100.
I would recommend this scanner to anyone, unless you have money to burn and want to spend 2-3 times more money; this scanner represents exceptional value and quality.
My only reservation is that the accompanying software is not brilliant.

The scanner is a great piece of hardware, but the included software, TwainScan L, is very limited. The user can't easily adjust scan resolution or control brightness or contrast. Default settings are quite dark and must be adjusted with software after scanning.
Nice little scanner - very good value........2000-09-15
Having owned and installed many scanners, I wanted a new simple scanner for my private office. The Epson 610 installed instantly with the included usb cable, and I was scanning within 5 minutes. It's fast, and the bundled twain driver works well. Even the basic OCR software works well for basic word processing - but you might want to install a high-end OCR software like Textbridge Pro for more options. Color photos scan well, but you get far better color if you don't choose the 'quick scan' option.
Nightmare Alley!.......2000-08-16
I ordered and received this scanner from Amazon.com. It was received in good order, and I attempted to install it the day of receipt, without any success. I was then forced to call EPSON technical support for help. It took me 3 days and nearly 2 hours on the phone with these technicians and they were not able to resolve my problem. It turned out that I had a bad unit delivered to me. What made things worse is that EPSON refused to send me a new replacement scanner, they say it's against there policy. They wanted me to bring it to one an EPSON repair centers, located two towns away. I figure, like most people, that if I buy a new scanner and never use it I should get a new replacement and not one requiring repair. With AMAZON's return policy I have been able to get my money back for the scanner, but I'm still out $35.18 in phone expenses trying to resolve my problems with this scanner. EPSON does not have an 800 phone number for technical support questions, and any expense incurred trying to rectify a problem with any EPSON product becomes yours expense. My advise to any one contemplating the purchase of an EPSON product, is to keep this in mind "you may be paying for more than the item you are purchasing. Don't buy EPSON!

With quick setup and easy to use features, the Epson 610 Perfection Scanner is an awesome deal for the price! The pictures I scanned were clear, and I was shocked to find how much clearer they could be made by using the features available for picture clean up!
I would recommend this product to anyone!

I paid $5000 for this unit. It was stunning when I first got it. It broke after 2 1/2 years & cost $2000 to fix. It has not worked as well since. IT IS A $7000 PIECE OF JUNK.

The Fujitsu 4209 is great, for the price and the picture quality is better than more expensive TV models like the Sony Plasma's and Panasonic Plasma's... I am really happy with my screen, the various imputs make it easy to switch back and forth, I like that I can alos hookup my computer to it, for presentations...

Thinking Plasma?.......2002-11-09
I had actually planned to buy a rear projection tv (hdtv, 16:9, etc), but plasma screen prices have come down quite a bit lately making it competitive with rear projection....
Anyway, back to Fujitsu. The 4209 is a fairly good screen, although the technology is 2-3 years old. And they are literally screens since they don't have a built in tuner or audio. You need to supply an external tuner (cable or satellite box) and a home theatre system to get this up and running. Something to consider.
For those needing the tuner and audio, the PDS4229 is a better choice. The 4209 is more of a corporate/trade show type monitor rather than a consumer home theatre monitor. Also, while the 4209 is hdtv compatible, they don't have the 3:2 rollup feature, as in other later models, to down convert from 16:9 to the current 4:3 screen aspect ratio. Another consideration point.
Plasma screens can also have some setup work to properly distinguish the input source (dvd, sat, vcr, cable, pc) and display the proper color settings. The majority of the time, the setup is automatic though.
Finally, mostly all plasma screens have problems generating "a good black" color like for night time or space movie background scenes. Instead, of displaying black, the plasma screens display more of a dark, dark, gray due to the plasma gas still being electrically charged. Because of the constant charging of the plasma cells, the lifetime of the TV is estimated at 20,000-25,000 hours (at this point 50% of the plasma has been discharged). If this bothers you, you might want to stick with direct view or projection.
In conclusion, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Plasma can offer one of the best, brightest pictures around, but there are some drawbacks as with anything. And with anything in technology, the prices can only go lower over time.
