I bought this phone liking the price tag... It has nice features like Caller ID: having the date/time of when the call was recieved. Also having the choice of when the phone rings it will answer when you take it off the charger or you can option it so that you have to press phone to answer the call. It also has a few other innovations like when the phone cord is disconnected from the phone jack it displays "no line" and if someone else is on another phone, "extention in use" is displayed.

Im sure by now you are thinking i fell in love with this phone.........I returned it 2 days later.

- It has very poor sound quality. When the Volume setting is at its lowest, theres a slight mur-mur of your words it the earpiece. When it is pumped up the the 3rd setting (of 5) your voice is very noticeable.

- The beep that the buttons make is very irrating. It's a very loud, high tone. Storing numbers into the phonebook gave me a headache after setting the time and adding 6 numbers.

If you can put up with the disadvantages of the sounds this phone has..then invest in it. However, I recommend you steer clear of this phone.

The 9122 is comfortable and has a nice feel, an easily navigatible keypad and a nice LCD screen, but the overall sound quality on the phone I got was terrible. All conversations exhibited a weird "etherial" lingering of the voice coming through the earpiece, and I heard the same thing as I spoke into the mic. It's hard to explain. It's not the voice echoing typical of 2.4GHz digital phones...more of a hissy lingering of words. People on the other end said I sounded fine, but what I was hearing on my end was really annoying. Incoming volume wasn't even as good as an old VTech 9211 I have. The one feature I DID like is when another phone on the same line is being used, "Extension In Use" is displayed on the LCD. But that certainly doesn't justify wasting money on this phone.

I returned it and got a Panasonic KX-TC1703B with more features for the same price, and it's been fantastic.

It gets the job done!.......2001-09-19

I think this is a fabulous scanner. I'm the curator for a photographic website ...and I've run over 4000 11"x14" photographs through mine with no problems. I use ULead's PhotoImpact 6 for image processing (TIF to JPG) - it's the only program that allows macros - when you're doing 4000 scans with several manual steps the macros are indispensible. I can't say I'm looking forward to scanning the next 4000 photos, but I sure know this scanner can do the job.

At 400 dpi it is fast (40 seconds for 14-bit greyscale 11"x14" scan) and very quiet. I added a SCSI hard drive to get the 50 MB TIF files to save to disk on my NT system in 2 seconds.

The sample size (14-bit B&W or 42-bit Color), resolution and Dmax are unmatched until you spend over $10,000.

Add the Epson 1280 printer for the best photo output.

Lousy software, Terrible support.......2001-07-24

I wasted no time returning this scanner. I have eventually settled on a Microtek 4600. The Epson is sleek appearing, lightweight, fast. But fast is no good when the results are unuseable. The Epson software doesn't permit you to preset what you want to scan and whether or not to push more light to it, or less. It defaults to amateur settings and the results might thrill someone who's never used a scanner before, but anyone who has used one for graphics work of any kind, will find it unworthy. The factory is impossible to get hold of either through email, or telephone. In essence the software is lousy and the support is nil. Back it went.

Excellent Scanner for the price.......2001-03-10

This scanner is an excellent purchase for an ad agency or design house looking to improve their color. Right out of the box, this scanner has excellent color reproduction, and the 3.6 DMax grabs excellent detail in the shadows. Our agency... has a client roster of many large agribusiness firms, and this scanner grabs onto individual hairs in even the blackest Black Angus cattle.

The Epson TWAIN software handles USM and de-screening like some of the higher-end scanners, but it lacks precise controls for those features.

Batch scanning is one of the strengths of this scanner, with multiple marquee selection as easy as click and drag, and one-button batch scanning.

This scanner offers one-button capture(Windows only), network scanning and an Automatic Document Feeder option, but we have not explored those options in our workflow.

Just what I was after.......2001-05-09

The Garmin GPS 12XL is exactly what I was looking for. I was not after a GPS unit that had stored maps, as in New Zealand there isn't that much mapping information available - hence I didn't go for the mapping GPS products.

It is a sturdy, compact, and portable unit, only slightly larger than my cell phone (Nokia 6120). It fits easily and comfortably in my pocket.

Battery life so far has been very good.

It is very simple to use, and easy to navigiate once you become familiar with the interface and functions. You can easily operate it with only one hand. The displays are very functional and quite flexible in the information they display.

Whilst it can be a bit of a pain modifing waypoints manually, doing on the computer and then uploading them will save you much time. Download some free software, get the car adapter/pc serial combo cable and you'll be sweet. My first data transfers were trouble-free and easy to do. It works well in the car off the power as well.

I also purchased the car antenna, and this generally provides accuracy down to +/- 4-5 metres which is about the limit due to atmospheric error. If you are going to use the 12XL in your car - get the antenna.

I showed it to a friend recently and he went snap - he had just purchased two units the same for a Search and Rescue team.

I look forward to a good relationship with my 12XL :)

Great... A few years ago.......2001-01-26

I bought this GPS a few years ago. As I work in the Army and my unit never fitted me with a military GPS, I decided to get one of my own. I was amazed then. It helped me out alot when trying to figure out my position. It's usefulness is limited in forests and in blizzards, which often is when you need the most. It was of course useless inside armored vehicles, but that's more than one can expect unless one has an external antenna.

The GPS can usualy track your position within two or three minutes, which is pretty fast. However, if you keep it turned on, it will drain your four AA batteries pretty quick.

I have always had the philosophy that one should NEVER solely trust a GPS. One should merely use it as a backup for a map and a compass. For this use, the Garmin GPS-12XL is just as good as you'll ever need it to be. However, the extra functions are rather primitive and probably most suited for fishers to mark their good spots.

Having said all this, I must add that GARMIN has come out with several newer, better, more advanced and even cheaper GPS's. I recommend buying one of those instead. Think carefully and decide wisely.

I love this product! I used it in the High Arctic as a backup navigation tool while working as a mining exploration surveyor. Like all battery-powered equipment, the low-end temperature limitation is due to the batteries (4 alkaline AA's). It's portable, solidly made, not too heavy, and most importantly it tracks 12 satellites simultaneously to get a fast position fix. This also makes it somewhat more useful than the average GPS in light tree cover since it is more likely that the unit will be able to get enough info for a position fix (GPS usefulness is marginal in the trees).

The keyboard, windows, and text entry are intuitive, fast to learn, and easy to read: comparable in difficulty to programming phone numbers into a cell phone. The backlit screen is useful at night. The unit appears to be internally well sealed against moisture, although the batteries are not fully isolated from the environment. This probably doesn't matter if you don't actually immerse it in salt water. Battery life is good. The unit is thicker than the pictures here make it look (check the dimensions), but this is not a problem: it fits easily into a pants pocket such as a pair of Dockers.

The unit and its case are black in color, so I advise attaching a piece of surveyor's flagging tape to either the case or the split ring at its base, or taping on reflective tape to the unit or sewing it to the case, **so you don't lose it like I did**. Reflective tape is available at bicycling stores.

I bought this exact same unit in 1997 for [the same price] and am very surprised that it hasn't either changed or come down in price more than it has. That said, I'd buy it again after looking at the competition to check for value. Make sure that the competitive unit tracks 12 satellites *simultaneously*.

Well, I have been looking for a good navigator. This is a something you can have on road when you need road assistance. It is also affordable.
