The Pioneer DV-606D is well thought out and full featured. It supports Dolby Digital and DTS formats. The unit itself is about the size and weight of a regular CD player. The front panel is clean and again reminds one of a centrally loaded CD transport. The front panel has disc transport controls (Play, etc.) and buttons for the various surround modes. It also has a button that turns the luminous display off which is very nice once you have settled in to watch a disc.The DV-606D performs flawlessly in DVD mode with absolutely phenomenal picture quality with extremely full deep blacks and no digital artifacts. The 5.1 CH sound is absolutely awesome, making regular pro-logic seem like so much mush. Pioneer Exclusive Viter-Bi RF Decoding process allows for improved error correcting capability. This player also features the newly developed Accurate Digital Servo for precise data reading and Automatic Gain Level Adjustment that minimizes jitter.

Excellent Piece.......2000-01-17

Although I've only been into home theater for a couple of years, I must admit that this is one of the sharpest DVD players I've seen on the market. Quality and performance is excellent, and the only complaint I have about it is the fact that there are no cursor controls on the front panel. So if you can't find your remote at the moment, you can't control the feature selections of the DVD main menu. Also, another thing I wanted to mention is that even though this player has a built in Dolby Digital decoder, I would highly recommend that you get a receiver with the Dolby Digital and DTS decoder in it because everyday, more and more households are running either digital satellite or digital cable, which would be nice if you can decode those movies in digital 5.1, which you must have that capability in the receiver and not the DVD.

I purchased this unit last year when it first came out. It has so many innovative features that until this year were only found on units costing hundreds more. Unit has Built-In Dolby Digital decoder (You must have a 5.1 Receiver to take atvantage of this feature)as well as regular Audio Jacks for Standard Dolby Pro Logic receivers. Some people mistakingly think that unit has a DTS decoder but it does not. It is DTS compatable which means that if you have a DVD with DTS sound it will play it in a standard way (This is no big deal for now believe me. It has a full compliment of inputs and outputs including Component Video (Color Stream) as well as S Video and Composite (Regular). It has an excellent full featured DVD only remote (Oh Well).

Having finally decided to take the DVD plunge, I must say that I'm very surprised and happy with this player.

I had researced DVD, and being a Sony Person I assumed I would get a Sony, but with all the sound troubles (and more) that they've had, I decided to get the Pioneer. I have a Pioneer laser and it's great, and this Pioneer DVD player is just as great - if not better. This player has performed beautifully - no sound trouble, no picture trouble, easy to follow instructions - I could go on and on.

For people who are new to the DVD scene like me, but also have knowledge of most things pertaining to audio/visual - this player is perfect. I doubt you could get the name, quality, and ease of this player from some other company without spending more. That's not necessary! This player is priced great and is worth it!

Best of all, this was a higher grade model marked down to the medium grade - when Amazon has it back in stock - get it! It's great, and has the Dolby Digital Decoder built it. If you're not sure (like I was) what all the techno talk is about, suffice it to say that you need the decoder.

All the features you could want in a DVD are here, and more. Unless you have a home theater system that is so high tech that it's almost an actual theater - you don't need all the bells and whistles. This player has the bells and whistles you need for now and if you ever want to upgrade your system.

Don't get me wrong, this is not an entry level DVD player, but it's great for anyone who is new or is upgrading their entry level DVD they mistakenly bought a few years ago. Because it has everything you could want.

Take my advice for this player - you won't be disappointed!

Things you should know.......1999-12-02

Being a newbie, I admit that I am not an expert in home theatre systems. But using this DVD player with the rest of my system, my neighbors threaten to file a noise complaint to the police unless I let them watch movies in my living room for free. Here are some things you should know when setting this DVD player up with your amp, TV, speakers, etc.

** Video Output **

This model also has three video outputs: Video output jack, S-video jack, and component video out jack. Of course you need three different types of wires for each one. Only the cord for the video output jack comes with the DVD. I recommend you buy Monster Cables for the component video out jack (relatively expensive, but worth it). You can definitely see the improvement in the picture quality. If you do go this route, then you must have a TV with component video in. Also, you must change the DVD player's settings (see pg. 42 in the instructions). If you don't, all you will get is black and white, and I seriously thought something was wrong with either my TV or the DVD. Took me a couple days to figure out that you need to explicitly change the settings.

** DTS & Dolby Digital 5.1 **

This model has a DTS and Dolby Digital 5.1 decoder built in, so you don't need an amp/receiver with a DTS and Dolby Digital 5.1 decoder (but you do need some sort of receiver with 2 front, 2 rear, center, and sub-woofer outputs to take advantage of DTS and Dolby Digital 5.1).

If you do already have a capable amp/receiver, read below for more details.

My ears couldn't tell the difference between DTS and Dolby Digital 5.1. However, you can definitely tell the difference between simple Dolby Pro-Logic and DTS/Dolby Digital 5.1. So it's definitely worth upgrading your system to handle DTS/Dolby Digital 5.1.

** Audio Output **

Read this if you have an amp/receiver with a DTS and Dolby Digital 5.1 decoder, and you want to connect this DVD player with it:

You have two digital outputs: coaxial and optical, both use a different type of cord. Someone recommended that the coaxial was better than the optical, but I really don't think it matters too much. At least, I couldn't tell the difference between the two types. Of course the only cord that comes with this is the standard audio cord. If you want to take advantage of the digital outputs then you will have to spend more $$ to buy the appropriate cord.

** CD player **

This player also plays compact discs. I mistakenly bought a Sony CD player, so I could play CD's. This model is also capable of playing DTS encoded CD's! There are not that many DTS encoded CD's, but just like DVD's, the sound quality is tremendous. Listening to the Eagles "Hell Freezes Over", you can really place the instruments and you almost feel like you are listening to them live.

In summary: If you don't want to spend big $$, and you are a newbie, then this DVD player is worth buying because it has all the necessary video/audio outputs. The picture quality is good. The only bad thing is the relative slow access time, so loading up the movie and skipping to different chapters is slower than I would like.

Very Pleased with the Pioneer DV-606D.......1999-11-18

I'm quite pleased with the picture and sound quality of the DV-606D. I connected the S-Video output directly to the monitor for an outstanding picture; and the optical digital audio output to my Pioneer 686 A/V Receiver which produced excellent audio quality.

great deal for a 19' monitor.......2003-09-11

I own a 15" ctx monitor & it has lasted 6 years & is still working fine. I was shopping around for the best value/products for a 19" & when I saw this ctx, I knew it was the right choice. ... The picture is great, clear, crisp image, & it's easy on your eyes. It is also plug & play - so set up is a sinch! My Husband also loves the gaming graphics. The only downfall to this monitor is it's really deep -about 18" - so you'll need a decent size desk. Ctx is a well known, good quality monitor. Don't pass this one up!

My DVD Player died after 4 months.
It used to play everything. But one day suddenly it stopped playing and gave a message "Wrong Disc".
I faced the problem with remote functions.
It always interfered with my Harman Kardon remote. When I operated my Harman Kardon remote, it used to behave funny.
Very unreliable.
I tried contacting customer support. But the email bounced back.

The unit itself was hard to set up for progressive scan, as it didn't output the menu on the progressive scan outputs until you used the menu to configure it to use progressive scan.

My main problem is with GoVideo's support. My unit had trouble reading store-bought DVDs after 7 months. There was no response to an on-line service request after 8 days. When I called (after waiting on the phone for 40 minutes) I learned that it would cost more than the purchase price of the unit to repair, since the "labor" part of the "parts and labor" warranty had run out. That means the warranty is effectively worthless after 90 days.

Buyer Beware!!!.......2005-09-24

Although I purchased a different unit, the GoVideo 8440 Portable DVD Player, it played exactly 6 movies before dying. GoVideo replaced it with a refurbished model, which arrived in non-working condition. I received a THIRD replacement unit (new)from GoVideo, which failed within minutes out of the box. Please note that I have since discovered that GoVideo Inc. is NOT a member of the Better Business Bureau of Central/Northern Arizona and has MULTIPLE complaints against the company. Purchase at your own risk!!

I wasn't very impressed with this product however very impressed with Amazon.com. They are some excellent vendors and I'll do more business with them in the future. They were excellent.
in terms of this product I was not very satisfied with it and should've gotten the Toshiba which was only a few $ more. I have used Toshiba for many years but never owned a Go Video product before.
What made me get this one was the cost and the ability to read DVD+R media, which is doesn't read I must add. I purchased some DVD+R media not knowing that most machines only read DVD-R.
I would pass if I could've knowing what I know now.

This steering wheel is made attractive by the low price and vibration feel. Please do not be fooled. In order to feel the bumps in the road you need to look for the key words "force feedback."

Steering wheel can be calibrated, but no matter how dead on your adjustment you will be left with a steering wheel and pedals that feel completely loose. Your only way of controlling steering wheel or pedal input is muscle memory of how far you actually turn your hands or press your feet often resulting in an "on-off switch" effect.

Would not recommend this wheel. If you are set on buying it, then mine is collecting dust in the closet - I'll make you a great deal!

waist of money.......2007-05-18

i brought this for my son, it worked for about the first 10 days then the sensor i guess broke the throttle pedal would not accelerate neither brake using the brake pedal. it's a good wheel overall when it worked he said he could feel the response of the car perfectly with the wheel and it accelerated asoon as u taped the gas, 30 days has passed and the pedals no longer accelerate i really wish i new this would happen before i spent my money on it.

Almost but not quite.......2007-01-09

I got this for the express purpose of playing Gran Turismo 4 on PS2 which the box art states this wheel is compatible for.

First the good: The lap retention bars are a very cool feature that make it so the unit can be used without excessive hard mounting. The user calibration is convenient and easy to use. Feel of the wheel and pedals is excellent.

The Bad:
1) Calibration settings are lost when you turn off the power. Not terrible as resetting them is simple. It's just annoying.

2) Pedals do not set up correctly with GT4. With such excellent feel and throw on the gas and brake pedals, it's a shame that it doesn't map to a useable range on the game. The pedals have about 1" to 1.5" throw but in the game, .25" equals maximum gas/brake! That means about 75% of the pedal throw is useless and your ability to modulate throttle and brakes is severely compromised. In fact, powerful rear wheel drive cars cannot be controlled with this pedal setup. Yes, I tried every possible controller setting I could come up with and it was in dual analog.

3) Useless tech support. They don't respond to voice messages or email. I finally got a live person and they claim to have never heard of the problem. After getting this wheel, I checked some forums and there have been at least 3 other complaints about the pedals with no hint of a fix. Tech support's only tip was to unplug all memory cards and cold start. That did jack, guys! It's time to kick the software engineers in the head.

Universal My Buddy!.......2007-01-03

Ok ok,

I have to go back on my review because the first one I bought was defective.
So, I got another one and hooked it up right away to my PS2 to play GT4.
It works GREAT GREAT GREAT. It took a bit to get used to but it was VERY responsive, stable and most of all UNIVERSAL!

It automatically calibrates to either digital or analog depending on how and what game you are playing, then you can set it up further.

I do recommend this universal steering wheel from MADCATZ.
I Give it 5/5 for fun and 5/5 overall
