Good recorder.......2006-08-28

I got this recorder for Christmas and so far it works wonderful. There is one draw back but this goes with any dvd recorder. You can't play recorded things on normal dvd players or on the computer. They don't recognize the discs. Until the normal dvd players catch up to the new technology you can only watch recorded dvd's on the dvd recorder. Other than that its great!

Lack of reliability for Pioneer DVD recorders.......2006-08-25

I purchased the similar Pioneer 310 DVD recorder at the end of last July. The unit received little use; I would estimate 30 movies and 3 recorded discs in a 12 month span. Unfortunately for me, just at the 12 month Pioneer warranty mark, the unit stopped working. When putting a dvd in, it says 'loading' for about 30 seconds, makes some strange noises, then ejects the disc. I tried a lens cleaning dvd but it would not recognize that either. I contacted Pioneer customer service and after a few emails back and forth, they stated that they would not cover the unit under warranty - I would need to ship it to them with a $70 non-refundable evaluation fee enclosed!? The unit will go in the garbage and the $70 will go toward a more reliable brand DVD recorder. Lesson learned.

Excellent Recorder with minor setbacks.......2006-04-19

This player is exceptionally easy to use. For the most part everything that pervious reviewers said is true. The interface is quite straight forward and recording is easy to set up. As stated by another, this recorder works only with -R and -RW, not +R or +RW. Also, I find it absoultely true that the on screen title and chapter naming is a pain, however with a remote control don't think there would be any better of a method available.

Timer and VCR+ recording is nice but I would have liked to see a recording stop timer or something to that effect (if the box is currently recording, tell it to stop in 35 minutes). As it in now you MUST enter a start and stop time.

Another thing I noted is that except via coax connections, video is not sent to the video output unless the unit is on. Lastly, be sure that you are aware this, like almost all units, has copyprotection and will not record copyrighted content.

Overall an easy to use, excellent product at a good price. Better than the Sony model and $25 less.

Good to Go!.......2006-03-19

I ordered this from Amazon because the reviewers indicated that it was easy to setup and use. That is absolutely true. I am not very good at these kinds of things, but it was easy and it seems to work great. It's slim, has an attractive style, and is just what I need. I am using this to record programs from my DVR provided by my cable company. And boy did Amazon get it here quickly. A local company charged about $20.00 more AND I would have to wait 2-3 weeks, and I live in a major metropolitan area.

I got this delivered about a week ago. I would not dispute any of the other reviews - it's a good brand, it's a good quality product, remote and on-screen menu are kinda bare bones but get the job done, probably there are better out there but this one is great for the price !

Note if purchasing: the unit DOES function with both DVD/R and DVD/RW but it MUST be -R or -RW...not +R or +RW. Hopes this saves you from having to pull the manual back out and dig for this info if your disks won't work.
(I know it says this above, but it's important to know b/c +R or +RW will NOT work)

Compex NP28G Review.......2007-04-10

The Compex NP28G is probably the best wireless router out on the market pound for pound based on its features. I was able to hook up my USB Hard Drive to it to share on my network. I also hooked up 2 Printers, one being a Lazer printer, and the other a color printer, all shared on the wireless network. You can also hook up a USB cam to see live feed over your netowrk and internet.

Another fantastic feature was the ability to transfer files over the network at 108 Super G. This was fantastic, epecially when sharing video files.

Five Star!!!!!

This is by far the most featured wireless router I've ever seen on the internet.

Poor Tech Support + Misleading Advertisment.......2005-08-30

This is the first time I'm writing a review. Why I'm writing this review? I've never been so disappointed with a product. I bought this router with the impression that it can act as a wireless webcam server for surveillance. Boy was I wrong!

(Singapore)Tech support was prompt and tried to be helpful in their replies but know nuts about assisting me with their Internet Explorer only webcam viewer via OCX/Active X!!! I tried perhaps about 10 different softwares to work with the router but alas there weren't any. Tech support even had the cheek to reply that they don't know of any software for surveillance. I tried to email the (USA)Tech support and I didn't even get a reply from them!

Other than getting a slight electric current 'bite' when I turned it on for the first time. The wireless networking,network storage feature worked.Its admin page was pretty comprehensive and the reset button was very useful but overall I feel that the manual is not comprehensive enough. Did I say that it does not come with a manual? You would need to read it off the CD via PDF. The advertising is misleading. Quoted from their webpage "Home Surveillance System: With a webcam connected to the NetPassage 28G, you can view live video stream across the Internet and keep a tab on what's going on in your home or office." It actually means you have to be staring at your webcam via Internet Explorer 24/7/365! Another point to note is that the USB ports are too close to each other, hence the webcam and thumbdrive USB connector had to be on different levels. So bewarn if you have huge USB connectors!

I have used products from SMC/D-link/Linksys/3COM/Netgear/CISCO/Aztech and Compex will be on my blacklist along with the likes of D-Link too.Get this only if you are on a tight budget and only want a router with network storage support. There are better products out there!

A good solution, but not the best.......2003-12-03

After reading the extremely positive and extremely negative reviews, I wasn't sure that I'd be happy with my purchase. I can't say that I am or that I'm not. However, I can say that it did what I expected -- the majority of the negative reviews are from people whose computers just don't make the cut regardless of what type of video device they're using.

I thought this would be a cheap solution ($200 compared to $3000 for a new digital camera), but as it turns out, a decent MiniDV camcorder from Sony costs in the range of $400-$900. If I hadn't purchased this product, I would only have $200 to go... but if I hadn't purchased it, I wouldn't know how much fun video editing can be.

This device gives you the potential to edit analog movies and make them look PROFESSIONAL (I really prefer Windows Movie Maker over the software that comes with the package), but the video and audio quality is obviously still amateur-looking (and sounding). If you want to create the next Titanic, you're going to need a higher image quality, so go with a new digital camera (this device is only for analog cameras), but if you just want to play around and get a cheap taste before making a more expensive dive, this is the way to go. It all boils down to how important video quality is to you.

Canopus ADVC100 is far superior.......2003-09-18

I've owned a Hollywood DV Bridge for more than a year, and also a Canopus ADVC100. The DV Bridge is adequate for importing analog video into Adobe Premiere. Just adequate. But having the benefit of owning both products, I have no hesitation about recommending the ADVC100 over the DV Bridge. The ADVC100 allows you to lock audio to video during capture, the image quality is superior to that captured with the DV Bridge, and I have yet to drop a frame during capture with the ADVC (even with older vhs tapes). The DV Bridge might look cool to some (I thought so when I bought mine), but it's simply not as functional as the ADVC100 because it tends to fall over when it has cables plugged into the front and back of the unit, whereas the ADVC100 is a nice looking box that sits flat and cables fit snugly. Snug cable fit is an issue with my DV Bridge because my S-Video cable fits somewhat loosely and works best if I wrap scotch tape around the unit and plug to improve the integrity of the S-video input connection. Finally, the ADVC100 has a built-in on-off switch while the DV Bridge does not. It's a small thing I suppose, but I'd rather not have to plug and unplug the DV Bridge's power supply from my power bar after each use. It can get dusty down under my desk sometimes. Since getting the ADVC100, my DV Bridge is officially retired. In my opinion, the Canopus product is superior to the DV Bridge in every way, and is the way to go for those interested in purchasing a product for capturing analog video.

Great product.......2003-06-25

It works just great with a beefed up computer, about twice the RAM of the suggested. Easy setup, but the software that comes with the program is hard to use and not worth bothering with. If you want a very simple, easy to use and effective editing program, use Windows Movie Maker which comes with a Windows XP update.

Don't Blame the Device - It Works Fine.......2003-06-11

I've had mine for over a year. It works just fine. I've converted many VHS and VHS-C tapes to digital - the longest was a 55-minute company training video which I squeezed down to less than 600MB to fit on a CD-R so I could send it out for people to view on their PCs & laptops. (The video image was smaller and the sound not as HQ, but that was the trade-off I accepted for the given file size.) It takes beefy hardware to capture video without errors - and I suspect some people complaining don't have equipment that will handle the heavy demands required, especially a hard drive that does not perform thermal recalibrations periodically. On a suitably equipped system, the device seems to do exactly what it promises.

I gave it only four stars because the bundled software is only so-so. In my system the bundled software has a conflict between installed CODECs which causes the video and audio to go way out of synch. The tech support for the software was outrageously terrible and - predicatbly - they blamed the installed CODECs which work fine otherwise. So I threw the software away and used something else. It even worked with Windows XP Movie Maker.

The hardware works fine, though, in my experience.
