Great solution for an older printer.......2007-08-23

At first, I was looking at a docking station for my new laptop with Vista but they were very expensive and the reviews were mediocre. My HP Laserjet 1100 was the only peripheral that used a 36p parallel port to a 25p serial port on the computer so the cheapest and easiest solution was to get an adapter that goes from a 36p male parallel to a USB port. The reviews I was ready about other adapters states that they did not work with Vista so I was on a quest to find an adapter that worked with Vista. The maker of this adapter stated that it would work with Vista so I bought it. Unfortunately, I didn't realize at the time that the HP serial port to the printer is a 36p but the size of the port was WAY smaller than the one on the new adapter. To solve this problem, I had to buy converter that was a 25p female serial on one side and a 36p female parallel on the other. Even after this manipulation, it still worked great. It's a good product.

Good product, works well to adapt your ATA drive to SATA. File transfer seems as fast as SATA.
Great solution for me when I changed from G4 to G5 to be able put my old ATA drive in the second bay. Had 200 GB on the ATA. would have been painfully slow to move all the files over otherwise.

ive had no problems, besides the cable placement on the piece makes it difficult to set up the harddrives...insted of getting new harddrive cables i just have them sitting loose and works fine...not the best though

It works with my antediluvian printer.......2007-09-09

The cable for my HP Laserjet 4Plus printer ends with a 25 pin male DB25 plug, which is not accepted by modern notebooks like my HP Pavilion dv6500. I decided therefore to order a Dekcell Cable (DC), plug my printer cable into the female DB25 end of the DC, and then plug the USB end of the DC into the notebook. The cable comes in a box labeled WanTeng, and the writing on the box advertises "Includes driver for today's most popular operating systems".
Unfortunately, the box is dated 2003, and examples of "modern operating systems" pictured on the box are Windows98 and Windows2000. This worried me at first, since the operating systems on my two computers are Windows Vista and Windows XP. However, it turned out that there was no need for a driver. Ignoring the CD enclosed in the box, I simply plugged in the DC, chose a USB port for the printer, and the printer worked (both with Vista and XP). There are cables like this for over $30 which are a little longer, but 3 feet was plenty for me, so I've been quite happy with this cable (and the price under $7).

Can't daisy-chain.......2005-03-05

I can live with the blue light and the warranty is not a big issue to me. BUT, if you're using this for video captures and your video camera interface is Firewire you've got a problem with this drive. It supports Firewire and USB 2.0, but it only has one connector for each. This means that this drive has to be the last device in the chain. I don't know of any cameras that have two Firewire or USB connectors, so unless you have two of either on your computer, it's a mess to try and capture video to this drive.

In my case, I have my external drives on Firewire and I only have one Firewire port on my computer. I also capture video via Firewire, so I can't have my capture device and the ION drive in the Firewire chain simultaneously. I have a USB 2.0 port on my computer, but because I use a USB 1.1 hub attached to that I can't put the ION on that port either otherwise it would be the only thing on that port.

If you have a clean USB 2.0 chain and don't mind ending the chain with this drive, then it might be OK. But I haven't tried the USB interface yet.

Quiet drive, runs cool, lots of storage.......2005-01-23

I purchased my Iogear 200gb firewire/usb2.0 drive from "another online store" because they had the drive "in stock" & they had a coupon for a percentage off.
Unfortunately, amazon didn't offer this drive when I needed it and I had to order elsewhere.

After nearly a month of calls & emails, I finally received my drive from "the other online store" and other than the serious lack of customer service or ability to ship in stock items in a timely manner, I must say that I really like the drive.

It's sleek design kind of reminds me of car designs from the 1950's.
The case is a plastic material, that believe it or not, runs much cooler than my maxtor external hard drive.

The drive is relatively quite when reading/writing data.

The drive came formatted & is actually 186gb.

It features both firewire & usb2.0 interfaces and an on/off button on the front. Included in the box is the drive, power cables, as well as usb and firewire cables, and cd & manual.

My computer recognized the drive within a few seconds & I was transferring data in minutes.

All of the literature, both on "the other online store" as well as on iogear's website indicate the drive has a 3 year warranty which is a BIG reason I purchased this drive. Unfortunately, the box in which my drive came in indicates the drive has a 1 year warranty. I registered my drive online and the registration process states a 3 yr warranty.

I'll be doing more investigation to see how long the warranty actually is.

The only complaint I have is the blue indication LED on the front... this thing is BRIGHT and annoying!! I fixed this by covering the indicator LED with a post-it note.

I was sort of freaked out by the previous review, but bought the Ion anyways, based on the recommendation of a friend. It was simple to use, and very, very fast.

I chose an IOGEAR product because of the 3 year warranty. I know of no other company offering more than 1 year. Unfortunately, despite spending 2 days trying to get this thing to be recognised by any of 3 computers that I tested it on, I failed miserably. Was I unlucky enough to get one of the rare duds that fell between the cracks or is IOGEAR Quality Control non-existent? To heap insult upon injury I had to pay the shipping to return this useless object to the "The Nerds.Com".
